No chance the immigration stupidity currently proposed by our corrupted congress will pass.

This is a country of "LEGAL" immigrants.
I came to the USA six years ago as an immigrant. Did I ask you people press 2 for my language? No I didn't, I learned English instead. Did I work illegally? No I didn't. I went to college, learned some computer stuff and now work in IT.
I will gladly support any form of LEGAL immigration, but I'm against ILLEGALs. Period!

A new study reveals that we have more illegals in the country now than all the immigration of Brits, Italians, Polish, and Irish combined throughout 400 years since America's inception.

Here's what Ron Paul's campaign theme should be:

Oh, I don't know, maybe allowing illegals to come here might be cheaper, in the long run. Heck, you could even see it as a government-sponsored cost-saving measure for the average citizen. How, you ask?

Well, I was thinking of travelling the globe later this year, visiting many exotic lands to learn of the local people and their cultures and traditions. But at this rate, maybe it would be easier and cheaper if I stayed home, and just had the world come here and stay.... :)

Hey, maybe I should send that idea to McCain: he likes those mindless "feel-good" platitudes! The guy's got the makin's of a good real estate agent!!

Perhaps if American trade and economic policies hadn't driven so many Latin Americans into poverty they wouldn't be coming here to find work.

Legal, illegal, doesn't matter. People seeking to alleviate their suffering don't need to follow artificial rules. I support that position.

anonymous,

So where are these stats of yours?

Since just the four sources you mentioned in just the last 150 years have contributed 20 million immigrants. I'd really like to see your numbers for their total contribution over the last 400 and your numbers for the number of current illegal immigrants.

Or do you just make stuff up?

I don't know how many times I have to say this.......
Criminal mexican invaders now kill more Americans EACH AND EVERY YEAR than were killed on 9/11.
In addition to all this cold blooded murder, they rape tens of thousands of underaged American children. How can any American support this savagery?
We need to:
1. Deport all criminal mexican invaders immediatly
2. Land mine the entire mexican/American border
3. Write new legislation making it easier and incentive laden for educated, civilized, white Europeans to immigrate here.

What's so evil about this plan? It's good for America, is that a bad thing?
Do any of you worry about islamic "terrorists"?
Do you realize that they look damned similar to mexicans?
Do you realize that our border is wide freakin open?

Maybe if every other family in the neighborhood down south did not have six children per family there might be a little more opportunity.

Ah, those northerners are having less kids and that excess wealth -- they stole it from us!

Facts at a Glance: Trends in Gangs in the US.

• Gang members in the United States: 800,000
• State and local police in the United States: 708,000

Source: Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California); hearing testimony June 5, 2007

==========

* In 1999 it is estimated that 47% of gang members were Hispanic, 31% were African American, 13% were white, and 7% were Asian. These percentages seem to remain fairly steady over the years.

This may be a country of immigrants, but they were largely LEGAL and committed to being American. The illegal aliens flowing back and forth over the southern border are not only ILLEGAL, but are hardly committed to the nation. They're here to make money, period! They're here to use our medical and education systems, period!

That's why we need to bring great penalties upon employers who hire, employ and cover for illegal aliens. Past a few offenses, summary confiscation of their businesses is well in order!

That all being said, I actually know an illegal immigrant. (Note I didn't say "alien" in this case; I said and meant "immigrant".) She walked to the US border from Guatemala, as a family of children fleeing militant violence. Once in the US she eventually made contact with a Christian man, became his wife, and produced 2 children for him. Since she's obviously become American by intent and by deed, I'm doing nothing about her illegal status. She's a housewife and mother and bothers no one. (It's a matter of great misfortune that her circumstances for legalization involve returning to the Guatemalan hell hole first, with no guarantee of being able to return to her husband and children. She simply can't do that, and won't.)

SHE is the kind of illegal immigrants which we have no trouble with. The trouble comes from illegal ALIENS who take great advantage of our medical, education and other First World systems and give little to nothing back in return. They conspire with employers to break the law of the nation, merely for personal gain.

Many of the immigrants who came here from Europe in the last century did not plan on staying. They came to make money and then go home. More than 4 million did so. Read the book:
Round-Trip to America: The Immigrants Return to Europe, 1880-1930

There goes the theory that the "good" immigrants from which many of us came weren't all just dying to become part of America. Many were no different than the illegals we have now.

But I suspect that many of you anti-immigrant, racist, reactionaries don't read scholarly analysis of sociological topics, getting most of your education from right wing nutjob radio.

They are mad as hell about this. I actually get emails fwded from them about calling my senator to say no to amnesty and in the 8 years I've known them I've never had them initiate a political coversation with me.

This definitely qualifies as the dumbest thing I've seen this morning so far. Recent studies (e.g., Heritage) have shown that the net effect of illegals with less than a high school education (which is almost every single one from Latin America) is a cost to the US taxpayer of $20,000 per illegal per year! How is that a "contribution"? I guess it's the same philosophy behind the housing boom - slap a few happy labels on a disaster and hope people don't look closely enough to see the big lie...

You forgot to include that between 1880-1930 there was essentially no welfare state--you were on your own. You also forget that most of the immigrants were from europe and thus fairly westernized--they had skills and worked in the then leading sectors of the economy. You clearly are not in your vast intellectual exertions not reading study after study (check out work of Borgas at Harvard or CBO research) that proves that illegal immigrants depress wages for low skilled native workers and tend to cost more than they contribute--and those studies overstate the benefits becuase many send all their disposable income back in remitances. Its not racism (the cry of the lazy thinker to shut down discussion) its basic economics and cuase and effect. There is also the whole following the law thing.......God what morons are out there. We desrve to be vaporized as friggin stupid we are as a people. Yeesh.

Some countries just manage to control their borders coause they like the group of guys they have been hangin with for several generations. As we say in Australia--we have the right to choose who comes to our country and under what circumstances--pretty whacky eh? Even the French (but hey most of you do not read papers do you) have taken on to deporting people and in fact have started a plan to PAY people for leaving! Why? Becuase whether you like it or not, unassimilated low skilled people tend to have--guess what--kids that become unassimilated low skilled workers. So pay em $2500 per couple to leave and $1300 per kid. Also--yeah dudes your economy is just going to go great guns by brining in more undkilled semi-literate gardners and whatever just at the time when U.S. wages are stagnant--35 year old man now earns less than his dad did in 1974. So yeah, be nice let them all in and see what happens. Next time you're sitting in a good ethnic (Mexican, Chinese, Indian) restaurant with people who think amnesty for illegals is OK, ask them why no blacks or white anglos work there. Face it, most illegals are bigoted and/or racist, but they expect no such treatment from the communities they invade.

It's fun to hear "progressives" try to explain how diversity only applies to businesses owned by republicans. The real downside I fear from mass deportation of Mexicans is the dearth of good TexMex restaurants that will follow.

I'm the only one to cite a scholarly analysis refuting the ignorant claim that these immigrants are somehow different from the immigrants we descended from and you call me dumb. LOL! Most of you reactionary, walking brainstems wouldn't be giving a second thought to "illegals" if it weren't for the republican party's need to find more scapegoats and enemies.

But I do commend the idiot who referenced the Heritage Foundation. Real unbiased source there.

As for immigrants depressing wages, well, that's CAPITALISM, the God of this awful culture, the DISEASE we've infected the world with. Also, the union busting of the past 30 years, outsourcing, and exportation of jobs all depressed wages.

See people, the whole IDEA of capitalism is to depress wages. There was a story on NPR yesterday that since we sent so much work to India it has become much more expensive to employ Indians so the Indians are sending jobs to Mexican engineers. Nice, huh? A race to the bottom. That's capitalism.

You vote for it, you worship it, you participate in the greed that it's based on but then you want to try and tame the monster you've created.

Besides, no one is going to get me to believe the republicans among you gives a RIP about "depressed wages" unless it's yours. You people, as goes for most in this land mass we think is a country, have lost all empathy and don't care what happens to your fellow man. Well, not until a tower blows up or a few caskets come back from Iraq. I've heard countless times about illegals earning slave wages. Is $20 an hour slave wages? Right here in Wyoming at the Sinclair processing plant, there are hundreds of construction workers and guess what. They have supervisors that speak english because the trades people DO NOT. How did they get hired? Easy, forged papers. Do they pay taxes? It works like this. You claim Married and 9 for withholding purposes to minimize the amount of federal income tax taken out and then of course you simply DO NOT file income taxes. Whats astonishing is that Americans are unaware of these practices, WHY? Where have you been all this time? $20 an hour is NOT an isolated example. Most people in construction earn $10 an hour and up and most of them are paid CASH. That means no social security, no federal income, etc. which means $10 an hour is worth $13 - $14 an hour. ARE THESE SLAVE WAGES?

If I hear one more time about illegals earning slave wages I'm going to puke. But I guess I'll end up starving at that rate. I have called Senator McCain, Kyl and Enzi today. Today is the freakin' deadline, CALL YOUR BACKSTABBING, TRAITOROUS SENATORS TODAY.

Here is the capitol switchboard number: (202) 224-3121

Oh yeah and after the construction jobs disappear, you think they're going to go back to picking vegetables and fruit? Not likely, their damn kid/s are CITIZENS NOW. Jesus Christ I can hear the death rattles of this country. The sheeple are getting SHEARED!!

Here's another immigrant story that never gets to election debate. There are millions of these low lives out there waiting for a citizenship or for the opportunity to commit crimes:

"(Sun-Sentinel) Circuit Judge William Thomas sentenced Victor Caraballo to death Thursday for the 2002 murder of 18-year-old Ana Maria Angel.

Caraballo confessed that he, his brother and three friends kidnapped and robbed Angel and her boyfriend, Nelson Portobanco. The couple, high school sweethearts, were snatched from a Miami Beach street corner after they had taken a midnight stroll on the beach.

Caraballo and the other four men drove the couple north on Interstate 95, taking turns raping Angel while Portobanco crouched on the floor of the truck.

The men stabbed Portobanco and left him for dead by the side of the highway. Portobanco survived and was able to make his way to the road and flag down a passing motorist. Though he was critically injured, he immediately alerted authorities that Angel was in danger.

Police mounted a massive search, but they were too late. Angel was found by the side of the road with a gunshot to the back of the head. Her hands were clasped in prayer.

A Miami-Dade jury found Caraballo guilty of kidnapping, robbery, rape, murder and attempted murder and recommended by a vote of 9-3 that Caraballo be sentenced to death.

Caraballo, 39, who worked a number of jobs including construction, was the first of five Orlando-area men tried for the crime. A jury last month recommended he be sentenced to death.

Still awaiting trial are Caraballo's brother, Hector Caraballo, 35; Cesar Mena, 27; Joel Lebron, 28; and Jesus Roman, 21."

Give citizenship to 20 million low lives and leave the border wide open for more to come in. You guys are geniuses!

"Florida ranks fifth in arrests of sexual predators by federal authorities, according to statistics released Thursday.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested 544 sex offenders in Florida since the agency launched Operation Predator in 2003. That places the Sunshine State in fifth place, behind only New Jersey, New York, Texas and California.

Nationwide, ICE has made 10,061 arrrests of sexual predators involved in child-exploitation crimes, the agency said.

Of those, 8,601 were foreign nationals convicted of crimes committed against children via the Internet, sex tourism or human trafficking. Immigration authorities said they have deported more than 5,500 of those offenders.

Among ICE's notable Miami cases:

• In April, a federal jury convicted a wealthy Miami Beach father who traveled to Cambodia in 2004 to have sex with underage girls. Kent Frank, prosecuted on sex-tourism charges under the Protect Act, faces at least 30 years in prison. His conviction marked a first in Florida. The case was among about 30 Protect Act prosecutions nationwide.

• In 2004, a federal judge sentenced a Miami Beach child pornographer to 100 years in prison. Angel Rafael Mariscal was convicted of running a child-pornography business and having sex with underage girls in videos shot in Cuba and his native Ecuador. Mariscal had been diagnosed in 1996 as HIV positive, the virus the causes AIDS.

That's all right -- those 20M illegals send most of their illegally-gotten income to their home countries. And they live in only about 1M homes total. Ok, some hyperbole: maybe they live in 2M. But let's just say that due to their many-families-in-one-rental nature, the real effect will only be one moderate factor amongst many on the massive housing collapse.

To Bitter Renter, who considers Heritage biased, perhaps you could stick to arguing facts, not sources? Deadlocked U.S. Senate Shelves Immigration Overhaul (Update1)

By James Rowley and Nicholas Johnston

June 8 (Bloomberg) -- The Senate shelved a proposed historic rewrite of U.S. immigration law, deadlocking late yesterday over legislation to give lawful status to 12 million illegal aliens.

Democrats and Republicans traded accusations over who was to blame for the stalemate over a plan that had the support of President George W. Bush. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, said Bush failed to muster enough support from Republicans.

``Where were the president's men?'' Reid said last night. ``I hope the president understands it's only going to be 16 months'' to the 2008 presidential election. ``He has a relatively short period of time to help us with this.''

The measure's future was left in doubt as the Senate failed to cut off a debate that lasted nine days. In addition to creating a path toward citizenship for undocumented aliens, the legislation would tighten the U.S. border with Mexico and create a guest-worker program Bush championed to help U.S. businesses fill jobs Americans won't take.

``This bill is on life support and its future depends on the president getting his own party behind comprehensive reform,'' New Jersey Democrat Robert Menendez said in a statement. Republicans said Reid should have allowed more time to debate proposed changes to the measure.

GOOD JOB FOLKS! Watch popularism run in this next election! Down with elites and elitism!!!!!!

"If we want a real full blown Greater Depression though send 20,000,000 consumers home. "

Illegals take more than they put back into the economy, and that's a fact backed up by research. For example, illegals wire transfer 85% of their cash earnings back to their country of origin, instead of putting back into the economy or helping to pay for the extra infrastructure (i.e., roads, sewage, electricity, water, etc) they use in a daily basis. Illegals put $1 back for every $2 they consume in welfare, and we pay for that.

Since illegals earn most of their money in cash under the table, they don't pay enough taxes either. So when time comes to use Medicare, they'll be sucking out of real taxpayers like us.

What else...there are 800,000 gang members in the US, with 47% of those being Hispanic immigrants. Let's do a back of the envelope calculation here: 400,000 X $80,000 (annual cost for incarceration to taxpayers) = $32,000,000,000 annually.

BTW, don't believe for a minute that illegals will volunteer to pay taxes after getting a citizenship. They will continue to earn cash under the table like before. Who would volunteer to pay taxes if it can be avoided? Do you really think that illegals, after getting a citizenship and continuing to do the same job in cash, will tell the IRS: "Here, I made this much cash under the table, please tax me!" C'mon, use common sense here, rinse twice.

The corporations and crook politicians don't want to discuss costs, because it would freak the sheeple out.

Now I ask you: Do we really need this s**t?

He should be Impeached on the grounds that he has failed to live up to his Constitutional duties as our President. 6 years after 9/11 and the borders are wide open, and Vice Presidente' Cheney says the threat of nuclear terrorism is very real.

Here's a clue jackasses, close the border, and maybe just maybe we can protect our sovereignty and our continuation as a nation.

Here's an organization that cites references refuting the Heritage assertions:

Southern Poverty Law Center

Search the page for "Heritage" and you'll see that even other conservatives refute the Heritage "findings".

Peoud to say that I'm a regular contributing member of the SPLC and have been for years. ACLU, too. I'm a veritable Sean Hannity nightmare.

I got another name for ya, but I will keep it quiet as not to upset the harmony of the site. LOL!

Do you not understand that both the Republicans and Democrats can give a rat's ass about either one of us? Everyday do you wake up as if it's literally the first day of the rest of your life including loss of memory and any sense of history?

You still follow a Party line making you a sheeple of the first order.

The majority of people who defend amnesty for illegals haven't taken one class of economics, finance, statistics, or accounting in their lives. They are totally clueless of costs to taxpayers and to our quality of life.

The idea that importing more poverty, criminals, and illiteracy is GREAT for the US is beyond comprehension, especially when 40% of the American population have no health insurance.

Keep in mind that the majority of well-informed citizens are not advocating for a total ban on immigration, but we are in favor of a more sustainable approach that respects our limited resources (including natural) and the power of exponential growth.

Please watch(especially Bitter Renter)this unbiased google video about immigration stats, to get a better idea of how the current system is not sustainable. Folks, this is a scientific approach based on mathematics, not blind ideology:

BTW, I'm an legal immigrant.

Here is a letter I just sent to Senaror McCain's office, thought I would share it here and get some feedback.

Dear Mr. McCain,

I am writing you today in regards to the immigration bill you are sponsoring, my hope is that you will set aside your own agenda long enough to hear my plea, the plea of entire generation looking down the barrel of a gun.

HENRY C. JACKSON, Associated Press Writer Quoting John McCain:

"This is a burning issue," he said. "Every town hall meeting I have there is this kind of deep concern. But there's also a desire to see us do something. They wonder, 'Why won't you fix it?' That's why they send us to Washington. To fix things."

Is granting amnesty (and don't you dare say it isn't amnesty - give the American people some credit for once) really fixing the problem Mr. McCain? Yes, the American people want you to fix "it" we want you to deport every illegal and build a fence. Better yet why not start enforcing laws already in existence? If you make it unprofitable, or better yet more costly, for U.S. companies to hire illegal’s then there will be no more jobs for illegal’s and hence no more illegal’s.

HENRY C. JACKSON, Associated Press Writer Quoting John McCain:

"So for us to do nothing and celebrate the fact that we stopped this legislation, well then those who have a better idea can give it to us."

Please see my better, simpler and more cost effective idea above.

Mr. McCain, I realize that you are a U.S. Senator and as such, gave up your moral compass along time ago, but I implore you - think clearly man. Do the right thing! Stop this socialist nonsense, do something right for this god damn country for once! Do something right for people like me who are getting squeezed. These people are taking jobs from Americans, jobs we need because you have allowed U.S. Companies to offshore most of the decent paying jobs.

I am a member of the first generation in this country who will actually see their standard of living get worse instead of better. That is your fault Mr. McCain, double talk all you want, it is your fault! Ever read any history Mr. McCain? Ever learn about the fall of Rome?? Well every great civilization comes to an end eventually, and we sir are Rome. Isn’t it ironic that your title is Senator??

I hope you read this, and I hope you actually make the right decision for my generation. But you will probably just get offended because who am I to tell you, a great U.S. Senator what to do. I am nobody Mr. McCain, this country is full of people like me and you are clearly doing your very best to keep it that way.

Sincerely,

Christopher George

Saying republicans and democrats are the same is a simplistic, defeatist attitude. Unfortunately, the democrats are as socialist as we're going to get which is to say not enough but they're light years better for the masses than the republicans could ever dream of being.

Everything you take for granted that has improved your life is the result of a policy put forth by democrats. All the bad things, including the real estate bubble, were given to us by republicans/conservatives. (Repealing the tax consequences for flipping was a republican policy passed by a republican Congress.)

To the other poster, whenever anyone says "unbiased source" you can be sure it's as biased as can be. Your little video could have been made during any immigration period. The natives always hate seeing new people move in. Hell, I live in Portland Oregon and they HATE seeing fellow Americans from California move here!

Some of you "legal" immigrants are worse than nnaitve Americans. You don't like the idea of the unwashed getting in ot the private "Club USA" that you joined. Call it the Country Club Mentality. Many of the "legal" ones are the highly educated who come here to escape their countries and don't want it following them here. Not exactly an attitude borne of altruism. But then again, America is a magnet for the selfish of the world as well as the desperate.

And another thing about NumbersUSA: a legitimate site doesn't make you log in to send an email contacting them. I wanted to know where their funding comes from since they didn't talk about it on their page. Imagine that. They must be trying to protect their "unbiased" funding source.

The wholes site reads like a paranoid American delusion. The funnieat part was trying to blame immigration for the lowering standard of living and stagnant wages. Rich capitalists, mainly republicans wouldn't be repsonsible for that, would they? Or would our corrupt capitalist system be paying us in bags of pure gold bullion if not for those pesky illegals? Dream on.

Bitter Renter, you are the king of contractions. You bash Republicans but you are siding with Bush and his Republican pals to give amnesty to 20 million illegals. Which one is it? Bush didn't give a damn about Americans in New Orleans during Katrina, but he's fighting soooo hard to help 20 million illiterate Mexicans. Sure, we believe his noble cause. Do you really think that his plan will benefit us, the hard working taxpayer? What about Ted Kennedy who wants amnesty even to illegals with a criminal record (read the bill before denying it's true).

40% of Americans don't have health insurance, but Bitter Renter and Bush want to bring another 20 million illegals into the system, especially knowing that they are clueless about responsible family planning.

The US has 800,000 gang members and only 700,000 police officers, as disclosed by Democrat Senator Diane Feinstein (Calif), with 47% of that being Hispanic immigrants (source ICE, based on trials, cases, inmates). But Bitter Renter and Bush want to bring millions more in by leaving the border wide open.

The roofing business was done predominantly by African-Americans who used to earn $18 per hour, which helped high school drop outs make a living. However, with the invasion of millions of illegals willing to do the same job for $8 per hour, African-Americans were pushed out of that trade. Keep in mind that contractors and developers never transferred the savings to customers, pocketing the extra $10 entirely. But Bitter Renter and Bush want to bring more illegals in to continue to depress wages and put more American citizens out of work.

Finally, Bitter Renter and Bush think that the US has unlimited resources to accommodate millions of immigrants per year, ad infinitum. Florida is already running out of water and other states are facing electric blackouts. Here's another excellent video that explains the power of exponential growth and its implications to our limited resources:

http://tinyurl.com/29e85c

Are you going to say that Dr. Albert Bartlett, a scientist-professor of Physics at University of Colorado is biased, too for explanation the exponential power model?

Regarding the other video, that guy got the numbers from Census and immigration statistics, making it easy for the dumbest to understand by translating the numbers into gumballs in a jar. Where are you going to get population growth or immigration numbers if not from Census and INS? What's biased about that? He never says during the video that he's against immigration (controlled).

I'm not sure why you want this amnesty so badly, but you don't make any sense whatsoever, especially with the mountain of evidence presented.

BTW, I'm a registered Democrat who never voted Republican before, but I will vote for Ron Paul this time. And as I said before, I'm also a legal immigrant.
