OK, this is getting a bit odd. HP favorite Ron Paul seems to be catching lightening in a bottle now.

HP favorite Ron Paul, who we've been promoting for nearly a year because his views are so in sync on HP issues (immigration, the fed, the dollar, government spending, habeus corpus, the list goes on), appears to be going from "crack-pot can't win let's not cover him" to the MSM now taking notice. (Read classic HP posts on Ron Paul here here here here and here)

I wonder if Ron Paul actually can do a Howard Dean and catch fire on the internet and jump from nowhere to a serious contender.

Good news is I don't think he's a screamer.

Here's a report in USNews and World Report on Paul catching fire. Never say never HP'ers, and since Ron Paul is the ONLY GOP candidate with the guts to be anti-war, anti-big-government and anti-illegal-immigration, I think even GOP voters who wouldn't look twice at a guy like him before are being forced to take note.

President of the United States Ron Paul.

Hmmm...

Nah, still seems crazy. But if you like what you hear, please give the guy $10. Who knows. Sure will make the GOP debates more interesting.

Ron Paul's Online Rise

To those who say the Internet arcs toward the trivial, try this on for size: Currently, the most searched-for phrase on the blog aggregate site Technorati.com is Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul.

But his supporters have flocked to the Internet with such enthusiasm that Paul is now showing up among the much richer candidates in various measures of Internet traffic.

Using sites like Digg.com, which allow users to vote on their favorite items to vault them to more prominence on the site, they keep a steady diet of Ron Paul material coming through the pipelines.

I've never voted for a Republican in my life, but I would vote for him. Lou Dobbs could be his VP to really make it perfect.

I have never voted (or even registered to vote), because I intuitively knew it was a charade. Every politician in my lifetime... Nixon through Bush has been the same. Democrat or Republican... they parties are identical, just a choice of which programs should grow larger during their 4 year reign.

But this could very likely be the first time I will vote. He is the real thing and frankly, I believe he is what all of us have been hoping for.

the media can't ignore the blogs anymore

He seems to be the best of the GOP candidates. I hope voters pay close attention.

Like anon 9:41, I've never voted or registered to vote. As long as I've cared to vote, there has never been anyone worth giving my support to. That's changing with the hope that Ron Paul could win. I'm actually going to register to vote and give this guy my support. Donation to his campaign is coming out of my wallet too.

Seriously, registering on his site and giving $10 is a big deal.

I encourage all HP'ers to do it. At least you can say you did something, versus sit there and watch American Idol while America burned.

$10. Come on. Take 2 minutes. And then post here if you did.

Cheers

I despise both R. Raygun .and GWBush, but perhaps I might vote for R. Paul.. The only repub candidate I've ever seen that I can say that about.

I quit voting in 1992 after the Clinton/Bush bullsh*t. It seemed that each new round of candidates was worse than the last. Ron Paul will get my money, and my vote. I will re-register so I can vote in the primary, and donate whatever money I can to him. I'm also spreading the word to friends by printing out some pages of stuff on him and passing it on to people I know have some political interest. This campaign is just starting, and there's 8 months to go until the first primaries. If he wins those and gets the nomination, I have little doubt that he will win the general election no matter who the Democrats decide to pick as their nominee.

Ron Paul >is< the citizen statesmen the founding fathers envisioned should be running our country.

I've always voted my conscience (usually for independent candidates), this was the first time I felt so strongly for one that I gave $100 to Ron’s campaign.

Go Ron GO!

Can someone tell me where Ron Paul stands on other issues? If he's really a Libertarian is he in favor of abolishing public schools, selling off the national parks, legalizing crack and heroine, and abolishing social security? If those views become public he'll never win.

Thanks for the link. Just gave $50. Every donation counts.

I have never donated $$$ to any political party or politician, until YESTERDAY. Ron Paul is my first donation- ever.

Thanks Ron Paul.

I was involved with the Libertarian Party for a few years from its beginnings in 1972...I was the 5th or 6th member in the PA party. We had to write in our candidates names back then, and I think John Hospers (their 1972 presidential candidate...he was the head of the philosophy department at USC) got something over 100 or 200 votes, either in Philadelphia or it may have been for the whole state. The LP presidential candidates never got more than a few hundred thousand votes over the years, even when they were on the ballot in all or almost all the states, including when Paul ran in 1988. Maybe with him running in a major party this time around, and with the great impact of the Internet, he'll get more attention than in 1988. There were always a few articles in the papers and numerous radio appearances. TV spots were much rarer. The one issue that Ron Paul differs from most libertarians on is his anti-abortion stance, understandable for a pediatrician who's delivered more than 4000 babies, and at least on this there are many Republicans who agree with him. Unfortunately, the general public is so ignorant of important economic theory that I'm afraid the large majority of what he has to say just goes over their heads. And there are lots of Democrats who sound like him on the great war, if you don't listen too closely.

I am sorry, but he is too in touch with real issues. This is not feel-good stuff. Americans don't want to hear about problems. Besides, someone will find out that Paul has done something politically incorrect in his life and it will be over. I'll bet he has said the H word... Ho... someone heard him say it repeatedly around last Christmas... Ho Ho HO... what an insult to women everywhere. He is finished!!! RACIST PIG!

After Bush, I don't think I would put Jesus in the White House if there was a (R) after his name. There needs to be a Democrat in office at least two terms to even START to reduce the deficit and fix all the things Bush overturned while in office. Another Republican, even Ron Paul, would be too tempted to let things slide when they were in his favor. The Democratic base want things back the way they were...

HEY SH;THEAD.. THEN JUST GO VOTE FOR THE OTHERS... OBO HIL RUDY ETC.... BECAUSE YOUR A HATER.
...

BECAUSE WITH OUT RON PAUL, THE CHINESE ARE GONNA TAKE OUR NATIONAL PARKS AS COLLATERAL WHEN WE START DEFAUTLING ON THE DEBT.

Social security is a ponzi scheme... worst of all it is a gvt scam... They take your money your whole life and they say "vote for me or you lose your SS money." The DEMs planned that from FDR days.

Ron Paul does not fit the Libertarian mold as you assert. He is a pragmatic, limited govt thinker. He is as close to the 1776 crowd as we have.

VOTE RON PAUL!!!!

If those views become public he'll never win.

every politician has views that people can accept and can't accept.

I'd be happy with more school choice because the current cartel (which we call the "public school") hasn't shown itself to be less effective than self study.

But I'm a little less enthusiastic about his views on immigration and the libertarian view on national parks...

Let me rephrase my question. Can someone who isn't a moron, can spell, and can operate a caps-lock key please tell me where Ron Paul stands on other issues? Is he in favor of abolishing public schools, selling off the national parks, legalizing crack and heroine, and abolishing social security?

Abortion is a DEVISIVE issue. it is pure BS, a mass media made and feed monster which is used to divide the citizens of this country and occupy them rather then issues which have a DIRECT impact on their lives. Same as gay marriage. More BS to mislead.

Look at the headlines for the 60 Min interview with Romney, a very important issue: "did he ahve pre-marital sex with his wife?" W T F !!!

It is NOBODYS Business !! Who CARES ?

I hope Mitt tells him To F OFF.

What id the LIBS preoccupation with NON iSSUES and SEX issues?

Comon guys/gals write an email to CBS to tell them to get with it.

WE ARE OVER 50 TRILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT and they ask about pre-marital sex!!!

Anonymous said...

here you go, email 60 min and bitch them out for asking non issues ?'s like "pre-marital sex" :

You must be unbelievably lazy or very ignorant. Just google "Ron Paul" and you'll get a bunch of web sites that show where he stands on the issues, plus links to some very good essays written by him no a variety of topics. Now go do your homework and quit acting like such a helpless know-nothing.

What is truly pathetic is that you people actually think he has a chance. Oh well if you want to throw $50 away go right ahead.

Another shining example of the NANY state we live in. Unable to search out and find answers, must be one of those public school "grads".

If you are incapable of find answers, how will you ever be able to find your polling place?

I have been a big fan of the good Dr., not many understand him because not many understand anything about the political system. Too long we have been crippled by sheeple voting by an (r) or a (d) as the litmus test of a candidates qualifications. We get corrupt or corrupt light as our choices, coming out of the same frats , and what the hell is up with the damn devil signs all these freaks are doing at photo ops on both sides of the fence? I mean do they think we can't see their hands or understand, it definitely makes those one world order crowd look like they are on to something.

Too long has the office been vacant from a patriot, we need him in there now. There is no way we can counter the damage of Blinky the Wonder Cat, with out some pain. I can't believe the armed forces can still support the Coward in Chief and see the hypocrisy of his actions.....it is all so surreal.

I will support him with my vote and my wallet, and if something bad happens to him in office it would be time to take back the Gov by any means necessary with extreme prejudice.

Just read the constitution if you want to know where Ron Paul stands on what at least the federal government should do or not do. Is there anything there about running schools or forbidding people from shooting drugs? Anything about stealing from Peter and giving to Paul because Paul is poor or because Paul buys enough congressmen? I don't see it and for many decades after the constitution was accepted no one else saw these powers either. And no, the Preamble does not give power to "promote the general welfare" through legislations. This was discussed and dismissed by the Founders way back then. Basically, the feds would do nothing that isn't explicitly stated to do in the constitutiion. Just protect life, liberty and property at the national level, issue gold or silver backed money, etc. By now, of course, the constitution whould have to have some work to turn it back into a libertarian document...get rid of the income tax and repeal the 17th amendment and some other things...it would probably be better to do what the original consitutional convention in 1787 was supposed to do; just patch up the Articles of Confederation which is basically a more libertarian attempt at union than the constitution has proven to be. Even under the constitution with original interpretation, the states would have more power to screw things up than the feds would. Paul would leave it to people to apply libertarian principles to their state and local governments, which are also way too big and do most of the same crap that the federal government does. But it wouldn't be within the power of the federal government to do much about this. Gold would become money again, though I can't think of how this could be accomplished today since we are heading for disaster and a crackup of the currency. Sometimes a society screws things up so bad that there isn't a practical path back to honesty and sanity without a great deal of pain, and I'm afraid that is our situation. Basically, a libertarian society would be one in which adult human beings deal with each other only in voluntary relationships and peaceful voluntary trade, and virtually all property would be privately owned. Money would be privately issued by banks, not the government which has proven to be nothing but a disaster...promising to protect us from evil banks but instead totally destroying the purpose of money by forcing all the bad things on everyone that a few banks did to only their few customers in the past. There would probably just be small Departments of State, War, and also a Treasury to collect simple sales or excise taxes or "use" taxes or whatever small taxes are decided on. All the other departments of the federal government would be gone, along with the FDA and all the other regulatory acencies. Law suits in an honest court system would probably be the main means of "regulating" business...if you think someone has damaged you in some manner that the police don't take an interest in, sue them.

Oh, the Libertarian Party site, www.lp.org, used to have platforms and other documents from past years. I don't know if these are still available there. If you can find them, you can read about libertarian positions on just about every issue discussed in politics today. Ron Paul would agree with most, with the notable exception of abortion. Also, some libertarians such at Neal Bortz and Water E. Williams seem basically in favor of the war on self-defense grounds, so there is this important issue where there is disagreement. I believe most libertarians agree with Ron Paul on the war. I believe most pro-war libertarians ignore our country's many decades of butting in all over the world in every battle we can find...certainly not a libertarian foreign policy which George Washington told us to follow. Also, check Ron Paul's congressional website, you can look it up.

Anonymous said...

If you want the "libertarian positions" on most political issues, you can get the Libertarian Party 2006 Platform at its website, www.lp.org. Move your cursor over "the issues" and click on "platform." Ron Paul probably agrees on all or most of the platform.

Never say never.

Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were relative unknowns when they first ran, and they both won.

People thought the Berlin Wall or the Soviet Union would never fall, but they both did.

Nobody thought the Titanic would ever sink, but it did.

Nobody thought slavery would end, or that women would be allowed to vote, but those naysayers were, you guessed it, incorrect.

Ron Paul can be elected President. He must, for the sake of not only America, but also the rest of the world. WE MUST NOT GIVE UP!

RON PAUL IN 2008!
