HOLY CRAP!! Ron Paul may raise more money online today than ANY CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

You can't make this sh*t up. Ron Paul may raise more money today online than any candidate - ever. You got that right MSM - any candidate EVER.

It's a bit after 2pm on the east coast, and Ron Paul has raised $1.8 million so far today. And there's still a long, long time to go.

This "money bomb" will be heard around the country tomorrow (thank you blogosphere). It's so nice to see Ron Paul doing this on the 2nd anniversary of the launch of HP. We were probably one of the first blogs to start writing about RP, well before he announced for President, simply because his policies and writings were so in line with our beliefs. And now this.

People continue to belittle RP and his supporters, but folks, today changes the game. Money is the mother's milk of politics, and Ron Paul is raising tons of it. They called us nuts when we said there was a housing bubble, and they called us crazy for promoting Ron Paul. And now America is waking up on both counts.

Ron Paul is now a serious candidate for the Presidency of the United States. The longest of longshots, way behind in the polls, and way to smart for America, but he's catching lightening in a bottle now, he's got MASSIVE momentum and energy, the money is pouring in, and all bets are off in a fractured and weak GOP field.

Donate here. Shock the world. Make a difference. Remember remember the 5th of November.

Ron Paul Money Bomb

There is a grass roots organized mega-money bomb occurring today for Ron Paul. Already today the total raised is $1,767,974 as of 12:20pm CST. The single day record for donations was John Kerry in 2004 with $3 million. Can we beat that today?

Well... I just sold all of my remaining US stocks and just have a few US dollars remaining (which is diminishing in value vs Canadian dollars on an hourly basis).

I'm thinking... since the US dollar is going to be worthless soon anyway - I might as well spend it on something that can keep fascism at bay for a few more years... Otherwise Canada will be the American Anschluss after the next elections.

Yeah, not money wasted by any account. If you donate the max $2,300 to his campaign and he is elected president, you will save over $3,000 in taxes next year.

Might skew the results. A CAD donation would be a huge amount in USD now that the exchange rate roughly approximates the Lire.

:-D

Yeah... I know.

But I also know that most people on this board are wary of foreigners influencing their government. I am too!

But the fact also remains that what happens in the US no longer stays in the US. The next President will have a major impact on which direction the rest of the world takes. More wars... or finally some more sense?

So... as a Canadian... listening to the increasing rhetoric and beligerence (even towards Canada) of all of the candidates of both parties except Ron Paul - should I donate?

Best I can make of it is $3 million is the record for one-day haul online, by Kerry in 2004

I'd like to see what the record is during the primary stage. Probably a lot less than $3 million.

Any good sources put them here. And give the guy some money. I love the real-time online calculator. Up to $5.3 million right now for the quarter

What an incredible day to be a supporter of Ron Paul!

You have raised over $2 million so far today, putting us closer to our $12 million fourth quarter goal. This is more than any Republican has ever raised online in one day!

So far in 2008, the biggest day belongs to Mitt Romney. On January 8th, he raised just over $3.1 million. Will you help us beat Mitt Romney and raise more in one day than anyone has this year?

Please ensure Ron Paul's place in the record books with your most generous donation: https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate. Tell your friends to donate today, too!

He is a distant third at (8.1) behind Giuliani (40.2) and Romney (28.5). That means an $8.10 bet would pay off $100 if RP were nominated and $0 if he weren't.

You think the 50% of Americans who pay no taxes would vote for a guy who wants to abolish the IRS? You think the millions of govt employees would vote for someone who wants to fire them? You think anyone in the military would vote for a guy who wants to disband the military? No govt contractors would vote for him. And the list goes on and on.

Armstrong, the founder of the popular blog MyDD, said Dean raised as much as $700,000 in one day toward the end of the primary race. "But not a million," Armstrong added. "What Paul is doing -- or what his supporters are doing -- is really impressive."

Ron Paul, the maverick Republican presidential candidate, continues to rake in the cash, bringing in $656,350.68 between 9:22 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. today.

Paul is in the middle of a giant push for cash in this final fundraising quarter before the primaries and caucuses, and has been on a tear today.

His campaign said his 12-hour total was $1.9 million — what they said was the most successful online fundraising day of any candidate in either party this year, and the most successful of any GOP candidate ever. (John Kerry holds the one-day record, raising $5.6 million on July 29, 2004, during the Democratic nomination convention.)

At this point, Paul's ability to raise money is not in question. But his skill in translating that sizable campaign treasury into voters at the caucuses and primaries still is.

Guy Fawkes Day Helps Raise Millions for Paul

By David D. Kirkpatrick

Historians and British school children remember Guy Fawkes as the Catholic, anti-Protestant rebel who on Nov. 5, 1605 unsuccessfully tried to assassinate King James I by blowing up the parliament.

Supporters of the long-shot Republican primary campaign of libertarian Representative Ron Paul may remember Guy Fawkes as a wildly successful fund-raising gimmick.

On Monday, a group of Paul supporters helped raised more than $2.8 million in one day — more than half its total for last quarter — through a Web site called ThisNovember5th.com, a reference to the day the British commemorate the thwarted bombing. Paul fans may know of the day primarily through a movie based on the futuristic graphic novel “V for Vendetta,” by Alan Moore and David Lloyd, in which a terrorist modeled after Mr. Fawkes battles a fascist government that has taken over Britain.

The Paul campaign has raised more than $5.54 million in the first five weeks of this quarter, more that the $5 million it raised in the full third quarter. Many of the contributions appeared to come through the independent Fawkes effort but it was unclear exactly how many. On Monday alone, the campaign signed up more than 21,000 new donors on Monday, a campaign spokesman, Jesse Benton, said.

roving again his ability to raise significant cash online, Ron Paul has raised nearly $2 million since midnight via his website.

In what is being called a "money bomb," Paul's fervent backers spread the word that today they'd blast their candidate with Internet contributions, setting up a website, "This November 5th," to push the plan. An aide said they had nothing to do with the effort.

"Supporters have spontaneously organized what I can only refer to as a one-day attack of donations," said Paul spokeswoman Kate Rick. "We started at midnight with $2.77 million raised for the quarter, and have, as of 9:36 am, climbed up to over $4.1."

As of 12:27, Paul had raised $4.73 million total.

While claiming not to be responsible for the "bombing," Paul's camp has certainly not lessened enthusiasm with a set of red numbers on their website that spin upward to show his total raised with every refresh click. Another site not formally affiliated with the campaign has set up a graph showing Paul's ascending contributions since midnight.

One Paul supporter said the campaign had sent out no emails about the matter, but that it had sprouted organically on one of the many pro-Paul sites not affiliated with the campaign.

"The idea came up at www.ronpaulforums.com about 3-4 weeks ago to have a "money bomb" today," said this backer. "The idea was to get 100,000 people to donate $100 (for $10 million). That was a little aggressive, of course."

Still, that Paul can bring in nearly $2 million in about 12 hours attests to both his intense online support and the great fundraising possibilties that exist on the Web.

My observation of the make-up of Ron Paul supporters so far:

1) True intellectuals who may have actually read the Constitution and want to at least send a message about that
2) Successful businesspeople between 25-45 who would rather save for retirement than pay for more government
3) Expats, Americans living in other countries whom Congress apparently believes can still be regulated and ruled over
4) Military, especially those who may have been wounded or almost killed defending the Constitution
5) Males who still have a pair and who at least want to send a message about men's rights
6) Women who respect males who still have a pair
7) Women who really think for themselves and not for the sisterhood

That would be about 3% total of the US population.

In order to get more votes than that, the above people will have to get their parents and relatives on board and convinced, especially those with landlines who are, apparently, the only ones the media pollsters contact.

While I do not personally know Dr. Paul's position, it is my understanding that his primary concern is whether it is addressed in the Constitution. If it is not, it is left for the States to decide. Barring that, it is left to the individual.

That's it- it's not for or against, it's just that it is not in the Constitution.

If democracy is not dead but only in its death throes, and if Ron Paul is a serious threat to the status quo, then he best stay off of airplanes and watch his step. (Mel Carnahan, Paul Wellstone, JFK, RFK, MLK, et cetera). I hope for the sake of this country that he is an honest man, but I have learned not to follow men, especially politicians. Ron Paul Raises More Than $4.2 Million

By JIM KUHNHENN – 2 hours ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, aided by an extraordinary outpouring of Internet support Monday, hauled in more than $4.2 million in nearly 24 hours.

Paul, the Texas congressman with a libertarian tilt and an out-of-Iraq pitch, entered heady fundraising territory with a surge of Web-based giving tied to the commemoration of Guy Fawkes Day.

Fawkes was a British mercenary who failed in his attempt to kill King James I on Nov. 5, 1605. He also was the model for the protagonist in the movie "V for Vendetta." Paul backers motivated donors on the Internet with mashed-up clips of the film on the online video site YouTube as well as the Guy Fawkes Day refrain: "Remember, remember the 5th of November."

Paul's total deposed Mitt Romney as the single-day fundraising record holder in the Republican presidential field. When it comes to sums amassed in one day, Paul now ranks only behind Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton, who raised nearly $6.2 million on June 30, and Barack Obama.

Paul spokesman Jesse Benton said the effort began independently about two months ago at the hands of Paul's backers. He said Paul picked up on the movement, mentioning in it speeches and interviews.

"It's been kind of building up virally," Benton said.

The $4.2 million represented online contributions from more than 37,000 donors, fundraising director Jonathan Bydlak said Monday night.

Paul has been lagging in the polls behind Republican front-runners. But he captured national attention at the end of September when he reported raising $5.2 million in three months, putting him fourth among Republican presidential candidates in fundraising for the quarter.

Paul as of Monday had raised more than $7 million since Oct. 1, more than half his goal of $12 million by the end of the year, according to his Web site.

Paul advocates limited government and low taxes like other Republicans, but he stands alone as the only GOP presidential candidate opposed to the Iraq war. He also has opposed Bush administration security measures that he says encroach on civil liberties.

No buddy, below is the real waste of money, as usual, by the "very conservative", "family values", "Christian", "small government", "patriotic", "all for the troops", GOP. The same GOP that loves to create phony wars so every crook out there can get rich with taxpayer money. Enjoy:

SAN DIEGO -- A former military contractor was convicted Monday of bribing disgraced former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham with cash, fancy vacations, furniture and prostitutes in exchange for help in getting government contracts.

Brent R. Wilkes, 53, of Poway was convicted in a San Diego federal court on all 13 counts involving more than $700,000 in bribes. He also faces separate charges of bribing a former CIA official, Dustin "Dusty" Foggo, to get contracts.

Wilkes is the second military contractor convicted of bribing Cunningham to use his influence on key congressional committees. Mitchell Wade, who owned a Washington-based firm specializing in the analysis of intelligence, pleaded guilty in February 2006 to giving Cunningham more than $1 million in bribes.

Wilkes denied bribing Cunningham in getting more than $80 million in contracts. He testified that he felt that giving gifts to powerful members of Congress was an accepted practice among firms trying to get military contracts.

Among other pieces of evidence, Cunningham had a "bribe menu" on congressional stationery indicating how much he demanded from contractors seeking his help, prosecutors said.

One of the counts against Wilkes involved his secret payments to help Cunningham buy a home in exclusive Rancho Santa Fe.

I donated to Ron Paul, even though I think he's a nut and I can't stand his positions on abortion and privatizing the military (Blackwater times 10,000, anyone?). On foreign policy, war, borders, and our currency, he's the only Republican talking any sense. I wish I could combine the best parts of Kucinich and Paul to make a perfect Progressive/Conservative Frankenstein candidate.

I'm giving money on a steady basis. This is great to see happening! Hope does exist for the US.

GO RON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gotta give credit to Ron Paul. He is pulling off one hell of a scam. He is duping imbeciles like HPers into sending him money. He has no shot in hell of winning. Everyone knows this. And when he ends up getting 1% of the vote, nobody will be surprised. Yet he still keeps the $$.

Fucking brilliant.

Ron Paul is the Thomas Jefferson of our day, and the only person that can beat Hillary.

Please do not insult Jefferson like that. Ron Paul is a nutjob with a following. He is today's version of Jim Jones.

Why are you people being hoodwinked into supporting this nutjob? Strip away his somewhat rational war and fiscal policies, and you still have your garden variety Republican trash:

-pro-gun
-anti-environment
-anti-alternative fuels
-anti-gay
-pro-life

Exactly why I support him 100%. You liberal swine have run this country into the shitter long enough. We need a conservative to bring it back.

gay? I couldn't give a rat's ass ( or a gay man's ass for that matter ) what the sexual proclivities are of Ron Paul or his 43 man-servants. The economy is tanking and all you worry about is who he has sex with?

The only thing unusual would be if he wasn't having any sex at all.

This is not the time to be worrying about trifling matters - the fundamental underpinnings of society are at stake. Sexual preference is a nicety that might be a concern in 20 years after this crisis has passed. Until then, the US needs fiscally prudent leadership.

I enjoy my middle-class way of life, and NO candidate, republican or democrat, other than RP has the stones to make the sacrifices necessary to preserve it.

Pro-gun? Precisely what does that mean? Crime rates dropped in the mid-90's not because of anything police did, but precisely because of Roe v Wade.

Nothing else in that statement has any truthiness - or usefulness.

Ron Paul is the only candidate for president because he's the only one focused on the fundamental problem with the US : the lies about our horrible economy.

A vote for anyone other than Ron Paul is a vote to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic.

gavin, it's ignoramouses like you that should just kill yourselves. Just do us all a favor and freakin' die, already. It isn't just about the money, and if you think that is the only important issue right now, then you are a completely soulless piece of crap. What we are talking about are social issues that have broad implications- on our environment, on our bodies, on our FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT TO EQUALITY AND LIBERTY, which, in case you haven't noticed, the GOP has attempted to destroy. Obviously you could not give to flying figs about anything/anyone but yourself and your money. And it's assholes like you that probably would have supported Jim Crow laws and insisted on black drinking fountains and sitting in the back of the bus. Oh, but at least we didn't have real estate bubbles back in the day...

The train has already left the station. Financially and politically, the U.S. is fucked, and we have to pay the consequences, regardless of whom we elect into office. But at least we shouldn't have to suffer through another potential 8 years of this sanctimonious, gun-toting theocratic oppression.
