FLASH: Bush pardons Libby, cements position as worst and most hated president in US history

When you find yourself in a hole, keep digging, yup, that's our man George. And yes, this is a pardon - pardon my buddy for commiting a crime, I'll just commute that silly little sentence because my best buddy Dick tells me I have to.

Amazing.

I guess it'll be a waste of time bringing Rove and Cheney et al up on charges, since the whole crew is above the law. You wonder if the next president will pardon Bush though a la Ford/Nixon, although I believe an international war crimes tribunal may trump a US president's ability to protect a former president. Any legal scholars want to weigh in there?

Too bad Bush can't pardon the housing bubble - that was the real criminal that ran out of control under his watch

Reality check - does anyone in America care anymore? Or is America's Top Model on again?

linked article says he commuted that portion of his penalty that was prison time, leaving intact the fine and probation, hence its not a pardon at all. Pardons absolve the person of the entire crime and would remove the entire penalty, if not yet imposed at the time of pardon.

He has nothing to lose. The last 20% of dumb asses still supporting this guy would support him if he ate live bunny rabbits

If pardons defined a bad presidency, almost all presidents would be the "worst". Let's stick to the legit reasons he is a colossal disappointment and failure

But for kicks, let's look at Clinton for perspective!

Bush had to pardon or commute Libby before his jail term started. The prospect of jail might have prompted Libby to spill the beans. Libby will be rewarded for his loyalty with some cushy think-tank job or corporate board appointment.

You wimps have it all wrong. W is a great president because he puts the USA Number 1 while his predecessors put it number 2 or 3 in order to kiss up to the internationalists, multiculturists and other assorted USA haters. Libby's prosecution was a joke. Check out the lefties who want to run the country: Billary, Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy, Obama, pretty boy Edwards. Some real heavy statesmen in that group.

Let's not forget Bush the Elder's pardons of Iran-Contra crooks.

Talk about what? Armitage was the leaker. And Plame did not qualify as covert due to the greater than 7 years since being an overseas agent at the time. There it is. Now don't any of you wonder what the big deal is, or do you despise Bush so much you wll jump on anything, legit or not, serious or not?
Like I said earlier, Let's stick to the legit reasons he is a colossal disappointment and failure. Let's not dilute the real serious issues with the fake ones.

Scooter had this pardon in the bag from day one. You can bet that Scooter's lead counsel let Uncle Dick know that if Libby set foot in a jail cell, he was going to mail a very large, manilla envelope to the NYTimes.

The next set of Presidential approval polls ought to give us a true measure of the size of the "pure" GOP base--you know, the mouth breathers who drive a pickup with a confederate flag pasted in the rear window and marry their cousins.

Anonymous said...

Congress should have Cheney and Libby testify under oath as to whether the pardon was guaranteed for Libby's silence

"Congress should have Cheney and Libby testify under oath as to whether the pardon was guaranteed for Libby's silence"

Silence about what?!?
ARMITAGE WAS THE LEAKER, NO LAW WAS BROKEN.

Give.It.Up.

Concentrate on the real reasons he is a failure.

Besides, there is a separation of powers... sorry

I am ashamed to be an american today. And any true american who believes in justice and the law, should be too.

We've lost the right to a fair trial and the rule of law, so par for the course today

Reid:

"The President's decision to commute Mr. Libby's sentence is disgraceful. Libby's conviction was the one faint glimmer of accountability for White House efforts to manipulate intelligence and silence critics of the Iraq War. Now, even that small bit of justice has been undone. Judge Walton correctly determined that Libby deserved to be imprisoned for lying about a matter of national security. The Constitution gives President Bush the power to commute sentences, but history will judge him harshly for using that power to benefit his own Vice President's Chief of Staff who was convicted of such a serious violation of law."

Anonymous said...

Conyer:

"Until now, it appeared that the President merely turned a blind eye to a high ranking Administration official leaking classified information. The President’s action today makes it clear that he condones such activity. This decision is inconsistent with the rule of law and sends a horrible signal to the American people and our intelligence operatives who place their lives at risk everyday. Now that the White House can no longer argue that there is a pending criminal investigation, I expect them to be fully forthcoming with the American people about the circumstances that led to this leak and the President’s decision today."

Anonymous said...

Obama:

"This decision to commute the sentence of a man who compromised our national security cements the legacy of an Administration characterized by a politics of cynicism and division, one that has consistently placed itself and its ideology above the law. This is exactly the kind of politics we must change so we can begin restoring the American people's faith in a government that puts the country's progress ahead of the bitter partisanship of recent years."

Anonymous said...

Plame's identity was not classified. And Richard Armitage leaked her name.

What is wrong with you folks? Do you just plain refuse to see that, due to your hate of Bush? If you think this is a dark day for the justice system, you have not taken a look at the many remarkable pardons and commutations for much worse crimes by many an executive.

Bush has failed so miserably, in so many ways. And he will be in office until the end of his term.

Live with it.

There are much better reasons to despise the man.

Why do Bush\Cheney have so much disdain for U.S. law and why do they hate the Constitution so much?

Anonymous said...

Not serving jail time for lying under oath? For supporting and lying for an administration that put the life of one of our CIA operatives in danger? Disgusting.

It may not be a pardon in the literal sense, but only getting probation and a fine for this act, IS getting away with murder.

This administration has reached a new low and anyone that still is behind and defends Bush and his cronies is no better than the scum he/she supports.

I am proud to be an American. I can't wait until the garbage, which is our current administration is out of office. Only problem is, how will we ever get rid of the horrible stench they will leave behind that will plaque us for years to come?

I'm glad he commuted the sentence. And I don't even like Bush.

All Libby had to say is "I don't remember". That's what Clinton's team said hundreds of times. If he said that...no case.

Instead he does his best to recall and gets thrown in jail. He KNEW lying wouldn't help him. The leaker was already out of the closet. He knew that. He knew Fitzgerald knew the score and that he and Cheney were in the clear.

He had nothing to worry about. Cheney had nothing to worry about. So why would he lie again? What would have been the point? If he had told the whole truth as Fitzgerald already knew it, NOTHING WOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO HIM. He didn't commit a crime, nor did anyone else.

Armitage was the leaker anyway.

Hitler would be proud of bush's criminal gang of "no-oath" outlaws, lies, scams, mass-murders, theft and wrecklessness.

Chilling is the only word that decribes the republican bush regime.

What's even more tragic is that nobody in the US Gov can stop their rampage of lawlessness, stone walling, lies and endless criminal activities.

To be completely fair, Clinton pardoned Marc Rich, someone who had cheated Americans by not paying his share of taxes. I thought that most "liberals" favored high taxes and disparaged those who refused to pay them.

Clinton received political patronage for this act, you can be sure.

Libby's sentence was excessive.

Let's also not forget Sandy Burglar, and his theft of government documents that would perhaps been damaging to the Clinton Legacy. Did HE go to prison? Did HE lie?

Clinton lied under oath. Did HE go to prison?

Anonymous said...

Actually, I liked what W did this time. Especially, I enjoy hysterical reaction from morons from the left. Sweet.

My faith in this country is as broken as my faith in the church's characterization of god. When I first heard that Libby was pardoned I felt rage inside. When I read the president granted him clemency because he's already been dealt with harshly I was furious. When I read that the president acutally claimed it's his RIGHT under the Constitution I just thought how convenient.

Our president will sacrifice the people of our country and make us indure hardship for his failed policy, but now he's not willing to let one of his own spend time in jail for comitting a crime? It's beyond anything I could ever imagine. Why have a personal value system when Bush and the 20% of the country supporting him don't? Why believe in the laws of this country when our elected leaders (pretty much all of them) don't? Why defend this country when not even our President will?

It's time to watch the tanks roll down the streets and see the politicians and bankers hung from the street poles. It's time to walk my children in front of their decaying corpses and explain to them this is justice, the people hung in the streets are liars, thieves and murderers. Don't cry children, they deserve it. Now I'm left just waiting for the tanks to roll.

If it happens I might do like the Iraqis and start to fight when the scum are all dead. Until then I guess I'll just close my eyes and ears to the world around me.

Clinton lied about a blowjob.

Bush lied to congress about reasons to invade a country non-provoked, whereby hundreds of thousands have died, and that country is lit up like a cristmas tree; depleted uranium style. For those that do not know, uranium has a half life that is really really long. Then again, most are too busy watching american Idol to even give a scheitt.

Clinton was brought up on impeachment charges from a 100 million dollar US taxpayer investigation replete with US taxpayer paid grand jury's into monicas come stained dress.

Are you serious? Lincoln was clearly the most hated president in US history during his presidency.

618,000 Americans killed

412,000 Americans wounded

Destruction of the US economy.

Suspension of civil liberties for all citizens to a level that makes Bush look like a boy scout.

I'm not happy with things either, but let's keep things in perspective.

Mea culpa to Bush on Presidents Day
Plain Talk by Al Neuharth, USA TODAY founder

Our great country has had 43 presidents. Many very good. A few pretty bad. On Presidents Day next Monday, it's appropriate to commemorate them all.

I remember every president since Herbert Hoover, when I was a grade school kid. He was one of the worst. I've personally met every president since Dwight Eisenhower. He was one of the best.

A year ago I criticized Hillary Clinton for saying "this (Bush) administration will go down in history as one of the worst."

"She's wrong," I wrote. Then I rated these five presidents, in this order, as the worst: Andrew Jackson, James Buchanan, Ulysses Grant, Hoover and Richard Nixon. "It's very unlikely Bush can crack that list," I added.

I was wrong. This is my mea culpa. Not only has Bush cracked that list, but he is planted firmly at the top.

Oh, but it is about the BJ. I would get fired fast enough to make my head spin if I got caught having "relations" with one of my interns and I am not even the president of the united states. Forget about doing an intern while at work! Why is there a different standard for elected officials?

Anonymous said...

Carter was the worst president in the past 100 years, easily.
-----------------------------------

I second that. Bush is bad but Carter had him beat hands down. The hostage taking in Iran helped carter in the opinion polls. Hmmmm, perhaps carter new of the hostage taking and let it happen in order to distract people from the piss poor job he was doing.......... But then he even f'd up the hostage situation. It took Ronnie to fix that problem.

Yep, that is exactly why carter sucked. He wanted those things, which are good things to WANT, but was unable to actually accomplish anything and he made matters worse when he did try.

Carter should be in your top five, you are giving him to much credit for being a smart nice guy that wanted to do the right thing. Carter's problem was that he was a totally incompetent manager
