What was the housing bubble's "jump the shark" moment?

This is the moment where it's all downhill from there. Got its name from Fonzi's classic motorcycle leap over the shark tank in Happy Days - the show hit its peak then straight downhill to cancellation after that.

For the dot-com bubble, which peaked on March 10, 2000, it was probably the Microsoft antitrust ruling on April 3, 2000. The harbinger was the Barron's Burning Up cash-burn article on March 20, 2000.

For the housing bubble jump the shark moments, I'd suggest:

* Time Magazine's June 12, 2005 housing cover
* Economist Magazine's June 16, 2005 "In come the waves" article
* HousingPanic's November 5, 2005 launch
* Greenspan's February 2004 recommendation to get into ARMs vs. 30-year fixed
* Learning Annex's Real Estate Wealth expo in LA this weekend

Any other thoughts?

I used to think your site was informative and funny.

But all that racist crap you're posting is just too revolting.

There are other housing bubble blogs. Cya.

Time Magazine Article.

Until the Economist article last summer I had passively followed the housing bubble - once I read that article I was sold. I still have that issue on my coffee table. That single article motivated me to subscribe to the Economist.

I hope all the dispicable race pimps will be gone soon so we can have rational and honest discussions

The Time article was not that bullish. Look at the cover: "Is now the time to buy -- or sell?" and "The case for renting"

Time has gotten a bad deal from bloggers who are mainly looking at the graphic, which could be interpreted as ironic, and may never have bothered to read the issue.

Yes, but look at the Time cover again:

what are the other headers?

*) Home $weet Home
*) Why we're going gaga over real estate
*) **** Will your house make you rich? ****
*) Super-hot markets

----------------------------------

When it's a real estate bottom, you'll see:

*) Confessions of serial homedebtors
*) Home is where the termites are
*) Bankruptcy relief act of 2011: now, it's not as bad as you think
*) Real estate bust: Ghost Towns, USA.
*) Take this loan and shove it: Houston, the banks have a problem!
*) Billionaires who rent

When I saw the "Flip This House" cable shows, I knew it was vindication time.
