McCain campaign on Palin debacle: "This nonsense is over". HP to the McCain Campaign - "Go ***k yourselves, it's over when we say it's over, not you"

Actually, it's over when she finally and mercifully withdraws, and McCain puts a qualified adult on the ticket, one who could handle the presidency, one who might know where Kazakhstan is on a map at least.

Or it's over when McCain himself withdraws.

Don't get me wrong, she seems like a nice and lovely person. Just like the cashier at the grocery store seemed like a nice person today. Didn't make my cashier qualified to be the President of the United States though.

You gotta love a candidate telling the media how to do their jobs. Yup, that'll go over well.

Just like Bush, and the Iraq debacle, when McCain finds himself in a hole, he just keeps on digging. And digging. And digging. And digging... And damn, I sure hope she doesn't drop out. We love you Sarah! Stay in!!!

McCain campaign on Palin questions: 'This nonsense is over'

ST. PAUL, Minn. - John McCain took the spotlight Wednesday in this excited convention city where he will claim the Republican presidential nomination, arriving with hugs for running mate Sarah Palin and her pregnant daughter — and a handshake for the 17-year-old's husband-to-be.

Even before McCain's plane landed, his campaign struck back heatedly at the persistent questions about his surprise choice for vice president, who has been buffeted by political and personal revelations. McCain's campaign declared "this nonsense is over" and announced a new ad to tout Palin's credentials.

The new Republican ad sought to promote Palin and contrast her record with Obama's.
"She has a record of bipartisan reform," an announcer says, as newspaper headlines appear next to images of Palin or Obama. "He's the Senate's most liberal. She took on the oil producers. He gave big oil billions in subsidies and giveaways. She's earned a reputation as a reformer. His reputation? Empty words."

The 'Great Depression' was a period in United States History when business was poor and many people were out of work.
The Great Depression began in October 1929, when the stock market in the United States dropped rapidly. Thousands of investors lost large sums of money and many were wiped out, lost everything. The 'crash' led us into the Great Depression. The ensuing period ranked as the longest and worst period of high unemployment and low business activity in modern times. Banks, stores, and factories were closed and left millions of Americans jobless, homeless, and penniless. Many people came to depend on the government or charity to provide them with food.
The Depression became a worldwide business slump of the 1930's that affected almost all nations. It led to a sharp decrease in world trade as each country tried to protect their own industries and products by raising tariffs on imported goods. Some nations changed their leader and their type of government. In Germany, poor economic conditions led to the rise to power of the dictator Adolf Hitler. The Japanese invaded China, developing industries and mines in Manchuria. Japan claimed this economic growth would relieve the depression. This militarism of the Germans and Japanese eventually led to World War II (1939-1945).

In the United States, President Herbert Hoover held office when the Great Depression began. The economy continued to slump almost every month. Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected President in 1932. Roosevelt's 'new deal' reforms gave the government more power and helped ease the depression. The Great Depression ended as nations increased their production of war materials at the start of World War II. This increased production provided jobs and put large amounts of money back into circulation.
History Repeats Itself....

Yes, a Good Depression will stir outrage, force real reforms
In a recent Wall Street Journal article, Jim Grant, Forbes columnist and respected editor of the Interest Rate Observer, framed his title as a question: "Why No Outrage?" Why? He notes: "Through history, outrageous financial behavior has been met with outrage. But today Wall Street's damaging recklessness has been met with near-silence, from a too tolerant populace."
Can anyone answer that?
Where is the outrage
The bad guys in Wall street are wondering why we have let them get away with this so long

Why don't you wait for the debates to judge Palin?

Unless she fails there, I see nothing that disqualifes her from the presidency.

Good sense and good character are qualities to be admired universally - so it doesn't matter a toss whether she can line up her "khans" all in a row.

She's had a full life, with plenty more to come. And she's not a law professor with a sonorous voice. And she's not a Washington lifer.

Coming from outside the establishment is a goooood thing.

Perhaps this blog is getting tired.

This quote from Victor Davis Hanson pretty much sums up my feelings:

"...millions of Americans are simply tired of being lectured at by smug elites. If she can beat off the frothing Newsweek/MSNBC/New York Times inbred rabid wolves, and do it with the grace she has shown so far, she will fill a deep yearning among Americans for someone like her."

"This nonsense is over!"

Yeah, John - here's a puzzle for you:

Arrange these words in order - rag, bull, a, to , red...

Surely after 26 years in the political spotlight you know that telling the press to drop something is as pointless as getting the tooothpaste back in the tube after you've squeezed it out?

How's it working for you so far? Let's see - we're on day 3 of the GOP convention:

Day 1 - Gustav arrives, and everyone is pushed into 'service'. While the rest of the great unwashed asks 'great, so where were the CARE packages lovingly put together by CINDY McCAIN HERSELF when Katrina caused the levees to breach?'. Please, let's all forget that while Anderson Cooper was outside the human carnage of the Stadium, three days after the flooding started, asking the obvious question 'So, we the media can get here - where's the rest of you?' to milions of viewers - Bush (flown in by private jet at huge expense) and McCain were cutting a frikking BIRTHDAY CAKE on a runway to celebrate McCain's 69th birthday.
Irony being that THEY DIDN'T EVEN EAT THE CAKE! It got left in the sun, melting, as Bush got back in his plane and McCain got back in his car.

Day 2: Despite the fact that this is supposed to be McCain's convention, the press has been all over the Sarah Palin story. Yes, the whole 'baby-gate' stuff was nasty, uneccessary and a distraction. However, if they really wanted to make it a non-issue then why try and cover it up? All you would have needed to do as a campaign manager is to include it in the Sarah Plain bio - ie "Sarah Palin comes on stage with her husband Todd, her children (names) and her oldest daughter Bristol, who is engaged to Levi Johnston and the young couple are expecting their first child in later december" Have Levi on stage with them as part of the immediate family.
There's nothing like hiding something in plain sight.
Meanwhile the clusterfrak of the vetting process is slowly slumping like a baked alaska in an incinerator.
Turns out McCain only made his pick 24 hours before she accepted. Most of his aides didn't know. Even the town papers in Wassila hadn't been asked for articles about her.
Meanwhile, Palin is sequestered away from the press, cancels scheduled appointments, and is completely unavailable for comment....

Day 3: McCain and the other GOP talkingheads BLAST the media for poking about in Palin's 'personal life'. I just heard Glenn Beck spout about how CRIMINALLY UNFAIR it is for everyone to pick on 'poor little Sarah'.

Sod that for a game of soldiers - I have no idea who this woman is! And everything I've been able to glean about her makes me more and more uneasy.

Sarah Palin has become a feeding frenzy in the media and on the internet. A sane person knows why: Americans love to watch a train wreck. Insane Republicans, however, think she's great and that the left is in a panic because she's so great. I thank John McCain for this, because it may finally show the insane Republicans just how out of touch they are from the rest of the country.

And yes, I like Scarborough. He is the future of the GOP - independent, libertarian and calls a spade a spade. He knows the current GOP is way off track, and he's rebelling.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Scarborough

Congressional career
In 1994, Scarborough won the Republican Party (GOP) nomination for Florida's 1st congressional district, which came open after the incumbent Democrat Earl Hutto did not run for reelection. He defeated former Pensacola mayor Vince Whibbs with 61 percent of the vote, becoming the first Republican to represent the 1st since its formation in 1903 (it was the 3rd District from 1903 to 1963), as well as the first Republican to represent any portion of the Florida Panhandle since 1872. The 1st had turned into one of the most conservative regions of the state. It has not supported a Democrat for president since 1960, but conservative Democrats won most offices well into the 1990s. He was reelected three times with no serious opposition, even running unopposed in 1998 and 2000.

Scarborough was regarded as a reliable conservative, receiving a 95 percent lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union.[5]. He signed the Contract with America, and was part of the 1994 Republican takeover of the House led by Newt Gingrich. Scarborough served on the Armed Services, Judiciary, Government Reform, and Education committees. In 1998, he was named Chairman of the Civil Service Committee.

Scarborough was one of a group of about 40 GOP freshmen legislators who dubbed themselves the "New Federalists" after the Federalist Papers. Scarborough was elected Political Director of the incoming legislators. The New Federalists called for sweeping cuts in the U.S. government, including plans to "privatize, localize, consolidate, [or] eliminate"[6] the Departments of Commerce, Education, Energy and Housing and Urban Development, but were largely unsuccessful in their goals. Gingrich tapped Scarborough to head a Republican task force on education, and Scarborough declared, "Our goal is to get as much money, power and authority out of Washington and get as much money, power and authority into the classroom as possible."[2]

In an attempt at counter-programming John McCain's nomination acceptance speech, Barack Obama has agreed to appear tomorrow on The O'Reilly Factor, a popular programme on Rupert Murdoch's Fox News channel.

The Obama interview comes after months of behind-the-scenes peacemaking between the candidate and the Fox News chief Roger Ailes -- talks brokered by Murdoch himself. Widespread Democratic concern over the Murdoch channel's conservative slant had fuelled a de facto boycott of Fox News by the Obama camp.

Ailes told the Washington Post that Obama's concern during their face-to-face meeting was simple. "I just want to know if I'm going to get a fair shake from Fox News channel," he recalled the Democratic senator saying.

-----------------------------------

what made Edwards so uniquely qualified for VP? Palin, while not overly experienced certainly has way more than Edwards did. What executive offices did Edwards hold before running for VP in 2004?

Heck, had he even been a PTA board member?

I don't recall Edwards lack of experience being a major factor.

What about Ronald Reagan? What was his last office held before being elected governor of CA? President of the actors guild?

Personally, I will choose the person who has 16 years of experience at City council, Mayor, and State Governor positions over the person with 30 years in congress. Congressional experience is not the type you need for being president.

The position of president is one of REACTION. Congress doesn't react to anything in real time. Governors do, Mayors do. City council, not so much.

a) you never really attended church much but you say you did in order to seem more "religious" now that you are running for president.

b) you did attend church as much as you claim but you just weren't smart enough to understand what Wright was saying during his sermons.

c) You did attend church as much as you claim... and you did agree with Wright... until now....

Keith, you're absolutely right. It is much smarter to elect slick speakers who have accomplished NOTHING in their lives, and who surround themselves with frauds (Rezko), convicted terrorists (Ayers), and race-baiters (Wright).

Your Palin derangement is comical. Her experience is light, but so is Obama's. The difference is that she's running for VP, and he's running for president. If elected, Obama will EASILY be the most unqualified president in the history of this country.

In farm country they would call this Palin woman a brood mare. Good breeding stock. A perfect "milk maid". She needs to go home and take care of her freakin kids and her kid's kids, oh, and don't forget the hubby. Bet they are sick and tired of Boston Market every night of their lives.

She left her new disabled baby in the hospital for someone else to take care of so she could get back to work after 3 days!!!!!

She drags her 17 year old, pregnant daughter out on stage to be the poster girl for evangelical forgiveness. How could you humiliate your kid like that???? Because she doesn't give a rats ass about her kid. Her kid is a prop.

It is just soooo all about Sara.

She needs to dump those glasses and get some contacts so that we can watch her beady little eyes when she talks to us.

Do we not recognize poor home training when we see it America?

Hopefully she will take care of John McCain better than she takes care of her kids.

Anon 8:21,

Yes, that's how most public schools teach on the subject of "Great Depression." There are just a few problems with that analysis:

(1) It ignores the root cause of the stock market crash in 1929. The stock market was in a Federal Reserve driven bubble . . . a bubble that was created as the FED inflated money supply to combat the (Florida) real estate speculation bubble-collpse of the mid-1920's.

(2) The Great Depression did not end with FDR's New Deal Policies or the WWII. FDR's New Deal Policies only exacerbated the economic depression just like Hoover's government interventionist "committees" in turning a normal economic contraction into "The Great Depression." FDR ran for president in 1932 on the platform of abolishing Hoover's committees and reducing the size of federal government. Of course, he did exactly the opposite after getting elected, and the various government hired scribes subsequently called Hoover a do-nothing president when in fact FDR won the presidency because Hoover was doing too much to exacerbate the economic slow down.

Use some common sense. How is building a bunch of rapidly obsoleting battleships, whether having them actively killing people or not, economnicly any different from having a public works projects that have half the work gang dig a trench in the ground and the other half covering it back up? If that sort of macroeconomics worked in real life, the soviet planned economy would be the best economy in the world. Frankly, macroeconomics can never tell why the soviet economy failed . . . because it assumes that "government demands" are legit demands when in fact "government demands" are nothing more than wholesale theft and destruction of private capital. "Government demands" are no different from hurricane damage, a flood, or an arsonist burning down a whole neighborhood, and hence requiring rebuilding . . . all of which are considered economicly stimulative in macroeconomics! Goes to show just how intellectually bankrupt the whole school of thought has become.
