FLASH: GOP gurus Noonan & Murphy caught on hot mic trashing Palin & McCain, admitting that "it's over" and pick was "political bullsh*t"

Well that should put a nail in this Palin bubble. Surprised it took that long.

Next we need an idea about what the insiders were truly saying at places like the NAR, Countrywide, Indymac, WaMu, the NAHB and even the House and Senate. We need the Henry Blodget memo, housing bubble style.

The American people have been taken for fools. And the GOP is taking the taking for fools to a whole new level. Thanks to uber-GOP-gurus Peggy Noonan and Mike Murphy and an open mic, at least we now know some of the behind-the-scenes truth. Too bad more Republicans didn't stand up to this disaster. Like standing up to the housing bailout, it would have been to their credit, and their advantage.

Noonan, Murphy trash Palin on hot mic: 'It's over'

After a segment with NBC's Chuck Todd ended today, Republican consultant Mike Murphy and Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan were caught on a live mic ridiculing the choice of Sarah Palin.

"It's over," said Noonan, and then responded to a question of whether Palin is the most qualified Republican woman McCain could have chosen.

"The most qualified? No. I think they went for this — excuse me — political bullsh** about narratives," she said. "Every time Republicans do that ... because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at and they blow it."

Murphy chimed in:

"The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical."

[HP side note - yes, we've done a lot of Palin stuff this past week. But I feel this debacle represents much more than just the McCain/Obama race. I think it speaks to how cynical, awful and calculating American politics has become. And the blind-faith support from the hard-core right has been just as bad as the spin and bullsh*t that came out of realtors' mouths these past few years. America deserves better. The Palin debacle might have been America's low point. It definitely feels like a low point for the GOP.]

Keith you are such a hypocrite. You have said before (paraphrasing) "throw all the incumbents out", essentially saying vote out the insiders and the long time Washington politicians and get new, untainted blood in. So now that McCain has selected the inexperienced Palin you say (paraphasing), "she too inexperienced to be a heartbeat away from the presidency". Which is it Keith? You want long time, insider Washington politicians or not? And by the way, I will not vote for McCain but not because of Palin. I am a Ron Paul supporter and will vote for Bob Barr since Paul won't be on the ballot.

WASHINGTON—A former chief executive of construction firm KBR Inc. pleaded guilty Wednesday to federal bribery and kickback charges in connection with the company's natural gas operations in Nigeria from 1995 to 2004.
The Justice Department said Albert "Jack" Stanley entered a guilty plea in federal court in Houston to conspiring in a decade-long scheme to bribe Nigerian government officials in return for engineering and construction contracts.

People have slammed Keith for focusing on politics and picking a side to support in the upcoming election.

Keith started this blog to expose the silence and lies surrounding the housing Ponzi scheme. So why would anyone think he would or could confine himself to just talking about housing?

There's the old saying, "..follow the money". Eventually it leads to Washington in some form or fashion.

So when Keith or any of us are attacking some of the principal architects of the biggest financial theft in the history of this country, understand the attacks are aimed at the criminals and their enablers who help carry out this gangster activity.

I'm backing Obama because he has fewer finger prints on this financial disasster than McCain and his Republican buddies. I don't support some of Barack's plans on housing. But McCain's plans(see Sarah Palin) will make the housing disaster seem like a minor distraction.

When Obama is elected he is going to have so much sh!t to deal with, he might resign before the state of the union. He is going to have to fight dead weight baggage in the Republican and Democratic Parties.

So Keith. Rail on! Keep shouting with the passion that brought you to the table in the first place.

well, have you read Pat Buchanan's latest op ed? he is now in favor of Palin.

Noonan and Murphy are upset because McLoser's pick makes them look outdated and out of the loop.

The Media is so for obama. Why don't they ever make statements like "if obama is elected he will easily be the least experience president in history"? they are willing to say that about Palin, it fits obama too.

Now the media touts Obama's "campaign experience" as a qualification for president. That is really grasping at straws. If running a campaign was "presidential experience" then we should put the guy who ran Bush's campaigns into office as he certain out does obama in that category.

The fat cats calling the shots for the GOP know a McCain/Palin ticket has no chance against Obama/Biden.

McCain has been set up for a fall.

Their main concern is to somehow manipulate/coerce the Obama team into agreeing not to pursue criminal charges against the thoroughly corrupt Bush administration and its crony corporate network.

Anonymous said...

I can't help but think that the tinfoil hat theory- that the Republicans want to lose while looking like they're trying to win- can be the only explanation for both McCain and Palin. Hell, Obama stopped bringing new messages after hope and change- if McCain wanted it, it was his. Whoever wins in November, loses.

Whoever wins gets the blame from everybody who thought they were rich because their assets appreciated faster than they built up debt. Leverage == wealth. Frugality == poor losers. Lots of people were convinced they had jumped a socioeconomic class or two, and when they realize their Southland real estate, their hedge fund, or their commodities fund are worthless, they aren't going to just admit they were wrong (how many REALTORS™ have admitted that?). They're going to look for blame, or worse.

At least it's worse in Europe.

That was a Ronald Regan like speech. I can see why the media fears her so much. Send that woman in to as many small towns in Ohio and Pennsylvania as possible and the Republicans have a great shot. It seems like some people here forget that America is not just filthy inner cities overflowing with people. Small towns make up a big hunk of swing states and they do not read nor care about HP.

Noonan is a McCain hater and in bed with Bushie. She wouldn't be able to stand this ticket no matter who McCain picked.

What's actually over is Noonan's relevance as a journalist and political commentator. I was surprised to hear that she's still alive. She said that McCain should come out and say he will only serve on term if elected.

Why? - Because he will systematically dismantle her beloved GOP and all of it's disgusting cronyism.

McCain was the right choice in 2000 and is still the right choice today. Picking Palin was just further evidence of his disdain for the Neo-Cons that have ruled the Republican Party since the days of Gingrich and have almost destroyed our economy.

I voted for Gore and Kerry and I can't wait to cast my vote for McCain/Palin. Obama and Biden can do all the talking they want to, but neither of them has the guts and conviction of the Republican ticket.

Basically, the Republicans smartly casted Palin as "America's Sweetheart" and watch how well this plays in the heartland and small town America. This election is going to be a dogfight. Its definitely NOT over and I think in the end, Obama loses out of no fault of his own, just better campaigning on the Repubs part

This is from an Alasking..A Little snip it from www.mudflaTs.worldpress.com
What is really going on with Palin:
THIS BLOG IS A MUST READ1111

Here we go everyone. I’m sitting here in Anchorage with my cocktail, my bucket of popcorn, and my Pepto Bismol.

Rudy is taking the stage. Did anyone at the DNC have to wait for the applause on applause lines?

Did you guys know that John McCain was a POW?

I see what we’re in for. Barack Obama bashing, line by line down his resume. Community Organizer (laughter), celebrity Senator, no executive experience. Never had to lead people in crisis…. is he going to say 9/11?

He just actually said, “This is no time for on the job training.” Ummm…. what about Sarah?

Lots of reform talk, but no specifics. Put government on the side of the people, shook things up, …

Oh Good God. They’re chanting “Drill Baby Drill”. And they won’t stop.

September 11th! He said it! Everyone take a drink!

Terrorists, Islamic extremism, ….more terrorists, surge, Democrats afraid to insult terrorists.

He just said Joe Biden should get ‘that VP thing’ in writing. In case Obama flip flops. That’ll be a great clip to play back if Palin is asked to leave. leaves gracefully.

Obscure negative references to the U.N. Tries to start the U-S-A chant…semi-successfully.

HA! The spin: Obama looked back by choosing experience. McCain “looked to the future” when he picked young and inexperienced.

He’s “sorry that her home town isn’t cosmopolitan enough” for Barack Obama. “The first day she was mayor she had more executive experience” than Barack Obama and Joe Biden combined. Where’s my drink?

Here we go. Palin is on. Crowd goes wild.

Why does she keep saying John” S”. McCain?? Mom of a troop. Deployment on 9/11. More U-S-A chanting. Family introductions. We’re just like you. Special needs children need special love. (*Note to self. make a post about how she cut funding in Alaska for special needs education).

Lukewarm applause for Todd being a steelworker. Intro of parents. Hardworking small town people are always proud of America. (as opposed to whom?)

The difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull? Lipstick.

Piper is licking her hand and wiping it on Trig’s head. Ew.

“A small town mayor is something like a community organizer except that you have actual responsibilities”. The ‘bitter’ comment is resurrected. Big boo for ‘the media’ who thinks she’s unqualified. Doesn’t care about their opinion, she’s going to Washington to serve the country. (Pepto Bismol)

She talked about putting Murkowski’s luxury jet on Ebay and selling it. (OK, that was a good move).

Talked about her vetoes. Didn’t mention that it included housing for unwed mothers in crisis and special ed.

For the THIRD TIME she’s taken credit for scuttling the bridge to nowhere, even though it’s completely untrue. Also says Alaska has a budget surplus. Don’t think we’ve ever NOT had one. Lots of oil $ here.

Iran sabre rattling and energy independence. Take it from a “gal who knows the North Slope of Alaska”, we’ve got plenty of oil.

Obama only uses the word “victory” when talking about his own campaign. Talks about the dreaded “columns” at the DNC convention. “What does he do after holding back the waters and saving the planet?” Big government. (more Pepto Bismol)

“Al Qaeda is plotting to inflict catastrophic harm, and [Obama] is worried that someone won’t read them their rights”. (pounding head on desk) Now lots of tax talk.

“Some use change to promote their careers. Others, like John McCain use their careers to promote change.” High flown speechmaking, self-created presidential seals….

Hey, did you guys know that John McCain was a P.O.W.?

Whew. We survived. And here’s the whole family. And that’s one ginormous flag.

And here’s John McCain. “Don’t you think we made the right choice for the next Vice President of the United States?” Ummm….

All the current politicians in the Congress and the Senate need to be removed . It does not matter who you elect President as long as that corrupt bought off self-serving group remains in power .That is the change that is needed .

I seriously can't believe this is happening. Like la-la land now. But damn, sure is entertaining. Can't wait for the VP debate. You know, where she'll actually have to talk about policy. And things smart people (should) know.

There was a flutter of attention when McCain campaign manager Rick Davis told a group of Post reporters and editors yesterday that his team was having to rework the vice presidential acceptance speech because the original draft, prepared before Gov. Sarah Palin was chosen, was too “masculine.” While we all wondered to ourselves what might make a speech masculine or feminine, no one batted an eye at the underlying revelation: that the campaign was writing the nominee’s speech before knowing who the nominee would be.

Palin has never ordered Alaska National Guard to do anything

By George Bryson, McClatchy Newspapers Wed Sep 3, 7:20 PM ET

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — When presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain introduced Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate last Friday, the Arizona senator emphasized her role as the commander in chief of the Alaska National Guard .

Later, when questions were raised about Palin's lack of experience in national and international affairs, the McCain campaign pointed again to her military command experience as governor. Some reporters have tried to follow up.

"Can you tell me one decision that she made as commander in chief of the Alaska National Guard ?" CNN journalist Campbell Brown asked Monday while interviewing McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds . "Just one?"

Bounds couldn't, because Palin has never personally ordered the state guard to do anything.

Instead, here's what he said: "Any decision she has made as the commander of the ( Alaska ) National Guard that's deployed overseas is more of a decision than Barack Obama's been making as he's been running for president for the last two years."

However, the governor has no command authority overseas or anywhere in the United States other than Alaska , said Maj. Gen. Craig Campbell , the service commander of the Alaska National Guard .

"When members of the National Guard are federalized, they work for the president," Campbell said Wednesday. "It's not just overseas. They could be federalized to go to other states or they could even be federalized in the state."

Occasions in which Palin retains command authority over the 4,200-member Alaska National Guard are whenever the Guard responds to in-state natural disasters and civic emergencies, said Campbell, who also serves as the commissioner of the state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs .

Some examples?

"We've deployed individuals in state service all over the state under Sarah Palin ," he said. "We had defense men down in Seward for the (Mount) Marathon run doing security.

"Out west and northwest we had erosion problems, and the National Guard was involved in some of the protection out there. About three days ago, the Army National Guard picked up a lady from Little Diomede (Island) . . . at the request of state troopers."

Did Palin directly approve each of those activities?

No, Campbell said. The governor has granted him the authority to act on his own in most cases, including life-or-death emergencies — when a quick response is required — and minor day-to-day operations.

Keith... And I suppose you're one of the (smart) people? Because you run a blog? And you exclude Gov. Palin from the group of smart people because you know so much about her?

From everything we've seen thus far, I think its a bit presumptuous to declare this woman "dumb". I mean, be fair dude. She is the Governor of an American state... and honestly, before you even say it, is Arkansas really *that* much more important than Alaska?

And I guess you can't say that the Governor of Arkansas was smart because of his background, because the left has spent eight years reminding everyone that a Yale diploma isn't worth anything anyways... Or one from Harvard, I understand.

She actually does seem quite bright. For you to say she's dumb is simply pure vitriol... and doesn't do much for your argument (IMO). Sure she gave a speech written by someone else... but so does Barry. Measured on the relevant metrics (i.e., delivery and ability to relate to the crowd) she hit a frickin' grand slam.

And if I were the Democrats I wouldn't put too many eggs into the "wait for the VP debate" basket. I'm not saying its going to happen, but given what she's shown thus far the chance exists that she absolutely clobbers Biden. I'm actually looking forward to that possibility... mostly because like you USED to believe in, I'm tired of career DC politicians and look forward to the opportunity for someone new to be given the chance to get us out of this mess.

Are you actually saying that if McSame wins we will somehow have a revolutionary new Government, far removed from the Bush administration? That's laughable. If McSame gets in you absolutley will not be able to distinguish his term from a 3rd Bush term.

The Alaska National Guard has been taken over by the federal government. I am surprised that people don't know about this. It was one of the more controversial changes in the past few years Homeland Security panic.

This woman is a mediocre speaker. I am shocked to hear the praise that she is recieving. But nothing should surpise me form the Party of Lies.

Was anybody paying attention this year? In case anybody forgot, this country is very racist. The choice was there -- between a black man and a white woman: the black man won. What does that tell you? And do you think that adding a woman to the REPUBLICAN ticket is going to get any votes for McCain? The racism is only exceeded by the sexism. She certainly won't bring many votes from Alaska. But every little bit helps, I guess.

I felt a tingling sensation in my leg when she spoke.

Gov Palin is just what the republicans needed to re-vitalize the party: she is a strong woman, a wise, experienced governor, she has the taxpayers interest at heart and moreover, she is sexy and knows how to field dress a moose! Again, time will tell if she mis represented her record or not, already even angrybear is raising questions on this front, but otherwise I see no reason for team mccain to lower the bar at the debates for her as she has shown she is an exceptional candidate who knows how to hit and hit hard for her side. She came out last night swinging furiously and hard at that. I fully expect her to finish off obama/biden at the debates and seal the deal. There is nothing stopping her from sweeping the floor with Biden and sending him off with his tale between his legs. There is no excuse now for a poor performance on her part and I for one am very interested to see this debate go down. Its on...

Wow, you must have lived a sheltered life. For your sake I hope a political party convention on TV is the worst thing you are ever exposed to in your life.

In your first article "Fact Checking Palin" the claim is made that she lied when she said the Obama never authored a major law or reform. If you consider the Lugar-Obama bill to be a major law or his ethics reform package to be major reform then you are willfully blind.

As to your claim that Palin has never ordered the Alaska National Guard to do anything, where in her speech did she ever mention the Alaska National Guard?

Anonymous said...

"She didn't write that speech she just delivered it like a good nazi..."

And you think Obama writes his stuff? Are you that stupid? At least Sarah can finish her speech when the teleprompter fucks up. Obama stopped his speech until they fixed it.

Keith, admit it, you are a guilty white liberal who wants to see a balck man win the WHITE HOUSE. You make me sick. You bash McCain/Palin and don't say squat about Obama who is a true and tired liberal.

Anon 11:03,

Is not having a riot on her hand while being a governor (therfore having to send in the national guard) a disqualification too now? No wonder the Democrats are hopeless. You don't understand the virtue in having the power and the refrain from using it. Most good governors do not have to issue a single order to state national guards; it's the ones who run their state to the ground that need to call in national guards (besides extreme natural disasters, which are extremely rare for most states). Wouldn't we all wish W never had to issue a single order to the US military? i.e. no war in Iraq?

The first and foremost duty of government officials is refrain from abuse of power! That's why we have constitutions. If Sarah Palin ever becomes the Presiden of the United State, I sure hope she never have to issue a single order to the US military either . . . as opposed to the chicken hawks that we have all too often from both Democratic and Republican administrations.

Keith,

"Palin has never ordered Alaska National Guard to do anything"

I can't believe you are falling for this one. Most good governors do not call out national guards during their entire tenures. Exreme natural disasters are very rare; most calling out of national guards is due to the politicians running the state into the ground and leading to riots and chaos in the street. The fact that Palin is does not aspire to be a tin pot dictator ordering troops around is a good thing.

Don't we all wish W never had to issue a single order to the US military either? (i.e. no war in Iraq) How is ordering troops around as a governor by itself a necessary qualification? What do you want? a tin pot dictator? It should be obvious that the experience comes from having the power. . . having the discipline not to use it and instead solving problem with peaceful means is a virtue!

"Sure she gave a speech written by someone else... but so does Barry."

actually, Obama wrote his own acceptance speech.

I think the SS stuff is bogus. Want me to disclose how many Realtors are SS - since they only work a half year or alternate every 2 years?

If you are hanging your hat on SS... it is.... mighty thin.

Cheers.

I would say that the position of State Senator (of any state) is much much less than the governor of the smallest State. Governor position has several orders of magnitude more responsibility than a state legislator.

And dangerously not qualified to be president.

I think watching that speech made me dumber. But that's what the GOP is hoping for - more dumb Americans. Based on the posts here, they should have reason to hope.
---------------------------------

Palin is not qualified to be president (the office she is NOT running for)?

Obama is even less qualified to be president (the office he IS running for).

Palin has twice as many years of city and state government experience than obama. Obama does have 3 years of federal experience but over 1.5 years of that has been spent campaigning for president.

BTW, obama is running for president, palin for VP. seems like you have forgotten that important point.

I used to visit HP for housing news from across the country. Now, I strictly return for the humor (since there is no attempt to provide cutting edge housing data any more) in the form of desperate attempts to pump up the flagging Nobama campaign.

Lets look at this latest piece of shocking news. On the one hand we have a conservative reporter that few outside of the WSJ readership have ever heard of making an off the cuff observation on the McCain VP choice. Not great for McCain but, really, no big deal.

On the other hand, we have the Democrat candidate for Vice President stating on two separate occasions that the Democrat Presidential candidate is not qualified or experienced enough to hold the job. Further, we have the former two term Democrat President, perhaps the most popular Democrat since FDR, calling the current Democrat presidential candidate too inexperienced to hold the office and that his campaign is a "fairy tale".

Hmmm, which is more damning?

Then we read here that Palin's fantastic speech was just her reading something that someone else wrote. The hypocrisy so over the top that it must be sarcasm for that is ALL that Nobama has going for him. Take away the teleprompter and he sounds more like Bush than FDR.

keep up the humor guys that's all that's left here...

I wonder if Obama was not black if he would be doing anything more then mid level management at some company?

I agree 100%.

John McCain will make the best Presidential prisoner ever.

When it comes to high intelligence, thinking deeply about strategic issues, economic sensibility, understanding of profound world forces, McCain is all flightsuit, no pilot.

Keith,
Don't know why you think the VP debate will be such a rout. All Palin needs to do is to a)ignore the question and use a canned answer that has something to do with the topic; b)sprinkle in some biblical references (she used a number of them in her speech)to solidify the base; c) mix in a few references about how badass "hockey moms" are; and d) add that she will bring common sense to Washington.
Example: Q-Many economists have expressed concern that the US will return to a period of stagflation in the near future-What would you consider as viable economic policy alternatives to combat stagflation?

A-"As a hockey mom, I've learned to never back down from a tough fight, and you can be assured I won't back down from tough economic issues facing our country. For everything there is a season, and this will be the season for action, rather than talk. John McCain and I will lower taxes, and stimulate the US economy to get all of the hard-working middle class back on their feet. As governor, I applied common sense solutions to problems that career politicians thought were unsolvable, and when John McCain and I go to Washington, I will bring that same common sense with me."

Remember, Tim Russert won't be there to call her on that kind of crap.

"I am just stunned by her tonight."

So are most deer in the headlights.

Are you sure Palin and her family arn't from the back woods of Arkansas? er daughter has had 2 babies, one with down sindrome and now another on the way at 17. Thats what happens when the mom is out shooting caribou and the dad is a drunk.

I wonder if Obama was not black if he would be doing anything more then mid level management at some company?

-Well, obama did get in to a top notch law school and never once mentioned his race on the application. Then, he turned his back on a kick ass wall street job where he would have made tons of $$ (in spite of being black) because thats where his heart led him. I wondr if he had been born 100% white if we would have felt the same call to action, so maybe you are right...
