What are the most important issues influencing your vote for president? Here's mine... Fire away (intelligently I hope)


It's been disappointing to read some of the brainless comments here on HP and elsewhere lately, from both the left and right.

Obama is a muslim. McCain's wife pops pills. Obama met a guy who was a 60's radical. McCain cheated on his wife. Obama didn't wear a flag pin.

WE'RE $53 TRILLION F*CKING DOLLARS IN DEBT, WE'VE LOST OUR MANUFACTURING BASE, OUR FOREIGN POLICY IS AN UNPRECEDENTED DISASTER, OUR CURRENCY IS WORTHLESS, HOUSING HAS CRASHED LIKE NEVER BEFORE, AND SOME OF YOU CARE ABOUT F*CKING FLAG PINS AND PILL POPPING WIVES?

America, if that's the case, is doomed. Ignorance has taken over. The brain-dead issue crowd, left and right, should be embarrassed and ashamed at their public ignorance . But I fear they are not, as they're too ignorant to realize how stupid and shallow they truly are. They are suckers, they are fools.

I like a good political argument, but one based on issues. I hate trivial crap like flag pins and spouses. That being the case, I wanted to get specific with you, loyal HP'ers and even the Bush/McCain trolls. I support Obama (reluctantly) over McCain because of these issues:

1) FOREIGN POLICY: The United States brand needs to be restored around the world. A nation of hope, dreams, morality and fairness, of hard work, honesty and integrity. George Bush and the Sith Lord Dick Cheney have done more damage to our reputation around the world in eight years than I ever thought possible. Trust me, I live 'over here', and we're hated. HATED. And rightly so. We've been arrogant, we've tortured, we've invaded sovereign nations on false pretenses, we're hypocrites, and we're frankly the neighborhood as*holes, and it's just getting worse. It's time for a major change. McCain is more of the same, if not worse, and even more hot-headed, arrogant and dangerous than Bush.

2) SUPREME COURT: McCain sees Alito, Scalia and Thomas as model justices for the Supreme Court, which will have two or three vacancies in the next four years. This makes him an unacceptable and dangerous candidate for the office of President in my eyes.

3) TAXES: McCain wants to give the rich another tax cut. Obama wants to give the middle class and poor a tax cut, while slightly raising taxes on "the rich" back to pre-Bush levels. I support Obama on this. It's immoral to put the burden of taxes on the people who can least afford it. I would like to see the entire tax system thrown away and the IRS abolished in favor of a consumption tax versus an income tax, but failing that, I'm for lower taxes on the middle class and higher taxes on people making over $250,000 a year, so is Obama. McCain is in the pocket of the rich and the corporations, funny for someone from the Party of God.

4) SOCIAL POLICY: Bush and Cheney have at every turn favored the rich and corporations, especially the oil companies and Military Industrial Complex, over the people. They and the GOP want into your bedrooms, your churches, your classrooms and your bodies. Obama has read the Declaration of Independence and US constitution, McCain either has not, or like Bush has chosen to ignore it. Gays and women have civil and legal rights even if you disagree with them, which Obama recognizes and McCain does not. This makes McCain unacceptable. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness"

5) PRIVACY AND CIVIL LIBERTIES: Bush and Cheney illegally spy on Americans. They torture. And they were evil in the name of 'security' from bogeymen. They should be in jail pure and simple - they are traitors and criminals. McCain supports them. This makes him unacceptable.

I disagree with Obama and the Democrats on a whole host of issues, especially their desire to bail out housing gamblers and failing bankers with taxpayer money. I disagree with them strongly on social security and health care. But McCain is unacceptable as a candidate in my view. If he wins, I will re-dedicate myself and this blog (or another) to opposing him. However, I don't fear that. I believe in the American people, I believe they understand they were conned these past eight years, that McCain is just as bad if not worse, and I believe they'll do the right thing come November.

This election is the most important election in the past 50 years, if not more.

America is in trouble. Your kids, their kids, their kids and their kids may come to hate you.

It's time to say no more. It's time to take a stand. Or it's time to wither away.

I agree with you and your comments about the silly things many people post...

Regarding consumption taxes - don't they favor those who are "better off" and hurt the poor? The poor spend more of their income on essentials. I was thinking a flat tax would make more sense.

This is what I've been saying over and over again, Keith. I'm glad you're finally seeing past this pointless dog and pony show of Obama's and McCains.

It's all very simple. We need to restore the rule of law in this nation. The government ignores the rule of law : the Constitution. So the government is not held accountable by anybody. The executive branch is not held accountable by the Legislative branch, the Judicial branch or the media. The government is completely out of control.

9/11 and the "global war on terror" has been used as a convenient excuse to rob us of our God given and Constitutional freedoms. The only way we can get them back is by becoming an enlightened and mobilized citizenry.

We need to see the media for what it is : a corporate public relations arm.

We need to see the government for what it is: a bloated, corrupt government that serves the corporate interests, the elite and the lobby groups and puts the American people last.

We need to see beyond this false two party paradigm of Left/Right, Donkey/Elephant and Democrat/Republican.

As Ron Paul showed, the parties are both bankrupt and corrupt. We know how to reclaim America and our freedoms and that is via the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

But no Obama or McCain or knight in shining armor is going to do it for us. It's up to every citizen to get informed and get proactive. Leave these petty partisan loyalties behind and think of the future of your country, your children and your grandchildren!

1) I don't watch BBC. When I do I see it as the British government's propaganda machine. Their coverage of the situation in Georgia is shameful and propaganda even worse than Fox News in the US

2) A consumption tax would exclude food and energy and also have a rebate so that poor people would essentially pay no taxes. It will happen, the only question is when.

None of it matters, period. The loss of our manufacturing base wasnt as important as the skills that were never transferred to the next generation. As an example, recently another coke plant closed, (only three to go). For you dunces, coke is used in the manufacturing of steel and various other alloys, not the stuff you put in your nose. Along with the closing and retirements went all the nuance's of making coke in that plant. We are at the point of no return, we couldnt mfr anything here if we wanted to. Im a retired electrical engineer and i have no desire to do anything for this country anymore, why should i, they want to pay kiddies wages for journeymen knowledge. So what if both guys running for president are clowns, the devil is in the details....

A consumption tax is just another distraction. How would it address the out of control government spending? How would it address the trillions spent on illegal wars and the military industrial complex?

The answer is that it wouldn't. The cruelest tax of all is inflation and that is what is driving poor people to brink and wiping out the middle class.

How about: McCain's an idiot? It's both brainless and petty and yet a pretty good reason not to vote someone to be president.

Here's another one: McCain's one of the worst warhawks still in Congress in the 21st century, ensuring that a McCain presidency will mire the country in wars anywhere McCain sees something he doesn't like, ensuring in turn more and more printing presses chugging out ever-less-valued dollars and more and more national debt. Tack on his economic ineptitude and you have 4-8 years of EPIC FAIL. Which we already have, TYVM.

I would vote for the candidate willing to verbally express what selfish, greedy, insurgent assholes conservatives are and who is willing to tell the truth about how conservatism has wrecked havoc on their lives. Then I would like for that candidate to encourage people to go out and burn conservatives from their homes and send them to Iraq as refugees to experience some of the hell that their leaders have put others through.

I'd like to see income taxes abolished and a consumption tax that would only replace 50% of our current tax base.

The government needs to be starved.

Our troops need to be pulled out of every country on earth. Retirement age needs to be raised to 70 if not more. Federal employees need to be shown the door.

Our economy would rocket if people could keep what they earned, pure and simple.

We're at the tipping point folks. Time for some radical thinking. Yet I don't see a single politician, except for Ron Paul, speaking the truth.

Obama is acceptable. McCain is not. But we need more. Much much more.

Who will lead? And more importantly, will America let them?

America could restore my faith by punishing the guilty immediately, beginning with the executive branch and reinstating the constitution and deporting each and every illegal alien regardless of race, color or creed back to the country of origin. Prosecute welfare cheats and corporate fraud on the government (Halliburton somehow comes to mind...)

Capital Penalty for repeat offenders, no appeals to be granted anyone. Company guilty? CEO goes to prison.

I am a Canadian living in the US and I cannot vote. So forgive me for sticking my nose where it may not belong but I live with the consequences of your collective decisions.

Yes, I could leave. And sometimes I really want to, like when Bush approved the housing bailout.

The most important issue is the economy - take care of that and the rest just about takes care of itself.

Neither candidate has an adequate grasp of economics and is doomed to failure as president. Their advisors either serve the monied interests or are arrogant do-gooders who think they know how to allocate resources better than the free markets.

So what's the answer? A new party with the core values of the Libertarian party but with a more moderate platform for transitioning to a smaller, humbler government offering greater personal freedoms.

Sir, I could not agree more! The REAL problem in this Country is that we have removed most of the incentive to be smart or accomplished. If you start a company, you will be regulated and taxed in to the ground. If you try to go to College, you have to pay crushing school debt for half your life. And if you go through school, and get hired, then you will be fired next year when some inexperienced jackass from India that can read a script or follow a manual replaces you for half the money. Quality is not a consideration in the "business model".

I remember shortly after the tech bubble collapse - there were IT people, scary smart IT people, that had to work at McDonalds and Walmart just to feed their families or service their school debt. Those same folks have since left the US and now work in Canada or Dubai getting paid 3 TIMES what they were here when they were working. They are happy, very happy. Smiling when they think of the mess they left behind in the ol' usa. Not only that, they don't have to worry about whether their health insurance is going to double, or they will get caught in another bubble.

Let's face it folks, not only is our money going overseas and being replaced by debt, our intelligence is too. Being systematically drained by the likes of marginalizing companies like WalMart.

Keith, you make some very good points, and that is why I am neither Republican or Democrat. However I vote for who I think will do a better job. Right now, Obama is the man for the job. McCain is too damaged and for the reasons you state, he is defective. Obama is seen as change. Not only because he is black (that should not make a difference, but it does), but because he comes from a background which is quite different from most of the people we have elected to that post in two decades.

Folks we have tried the vanilla candidates, with all the "right" money, "right family" etc. and look where it got us. A good ol' boys club of monumental failure. I would much rather try the self made man, who is not from a political family and has had life experience, rather than "political experience".

So far he is doing quite well, and that says a lot when he certainly does not fit the mold of the usual candidate.

On taxes -- tax rates are already very high when you throw in the social security/medicare 15.3% hit off the top.

15.3% + 28% = 43.3%.

Social Security, darling of the Democrats, is a flat tax. Why is SS an acceptable flat tax and other taxes aren't? (I'm not a republican BTW)

Anyway, throw in almost 9% sales tax on everything I buy in WA (except food), a B&O tax based on revenue, not profit, a "property tax" on personal property in my office like staplers, paper, etc. -- and it's a constant struggle for a person to get ahead. I've risked my life savings on my business, but government seems hell bent on making it as hard as possible to win. Fortunately, after five years I think I'm going to make it, IN SPITE of local, state, and federal governments' attempts to force me into corporate slavery.

The point is that it doesn't matter who you vote for. Obama or McCain, neither one is going to stop American imperialism. Look at how Obama has backtracked already on FISA and as for Iraq he still hasn't committed to any kind of withdrawal. The last I heard he only wanted to transfer troops from Iraq to Afghanistan.

Obama is flanked by more of the same old Washington insiders: Brzezinski, Albright, Biden! (he's as Neocon as McCain).

You're just setting yourself up to be conned again.

The point is that we need to get out of this two party control mechanism that is owned and operated by the corporations and lobbies. Both of these clowns have professed their support for the defense of Israel as if it were a US state.

Hope and Change, Oprah style emotional outpourings of personal experiences, glitzy Hollywood style back-patting events like the DNC seems to be enough to fleece the American public again.

A doctor who went to medical school for 10 years, got a $300k student loan in order to graduate, has 2 kids, pays a ton of money in malpractice insurance (thanks to your boy John Edwards), lives in San Francisco or NYC, and earns $250k in gross income. According to Obama, this person is rich and should be punished. Does this person seem rich to you (only those with a brain need to answer).

4. Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac are Democrat party creations. So it's Social Security, public education, unions, food stamps, etc. Viva el socialismo Obama! We're rich beatch, let's pump another 20 million illiterate illegals into the US so the Democratic party can have lot of voters to elect crooks, while forcing the middle-class pay for all their welfare programs.

Keith, you forgot to mention two major major major priorities on these elections, according to your Messiah and the Democratic party: Helen Degeneres getting married and the right of lazy and irresponsible sluts to shoot dead fetus out their vaginas as a sport.

Think about it.

Consumption tax punishes and discourages consumption.

People will consume less. (openly)

Your taxable consumption will be tracked by balancing your savings against your income. Consumption plus savings equals income.

Much of the economy will be driven underground. For it to be even moderately effective we will have to go cashless. In that event our every move will be tracked. Not only will you live in a slave state, your King will know exactly where you buy gas, food, clothes and shelter.

Just look at what happens when the government promotes consumption or borrowing and reverse it.

Voting in this election is a joke designed to give the illusion of freedom.

We are not free. The product of our labor is taken from us. By definition that is slavery. It might be different if government was limited to basic protection and organization by and for the people.

But it is not.

There is only one real issue: taxation, both the explicit kind and the implicit kind (inflation).

When the federal government is starved of money, it won't be able to engage in foreign misadventures. There won't be "foreign aid" programs for foreign countries to fight over in the lobbies DC. There won't be money to hire so many government agents to spy on Americans. Regardless what the Supreme Court decides, there won't be federal bureacrats to get in the way between people and their doctors or drug dispensers (on either drugs or abortion). All the ills that we see today eminate from the government's power to tax and spend with abandon, to the detriment of all Americans.

Since our money is reduced to worthlessness, we don't have "the rich" any more. We only have "the powerful," just like the former communist countries. Power is not taxable; the ones with real political power make laws to reduce their own tax bill to nothingness. What's left are the so-called "rich" who have no power and are being victimized by the regime. The irony is that the so-called "rich" otherwise would have spent the money on hiring some poor in the local economy, now they have to send the money to the powerful in DC instead. And the poor and middle class are left wondering why their lot is getting worse and worse.

As much as I think a consumption tax would help raise savings rate, it will probably be a regressive tax as the poor spend a higher per centage of their income on consumption (hence staying poor). What's needed is a flat rate tax, so that everyone who votes can feel what tax is. That will reduce tax rate to the minimum in a big hurry. Otherwise, the manipulation of envy pitting one group of citizens against another foist high taxes on "the rich" only leads to destroying employment opportunities for the not the so rich, and eventually with inflation and government nonsense statistic the tax rate for "the rich" will snag just about everyone.

Also, employer withholding requirement should be abolished. So that employees can see just how much of their income is ripped off by the government every year . . . instead of seeing the refund check as some kind of gift from the government.

Consumption tax is a terrible idea: it's regressive, not to mention what constitutes consumption? what's investment? Is a bottle of asprin consumption? How about a doctor's visit? If that is, what about taking a course to be your own doctor, by extension all education? Is buying a loaf of bread consumption? How about a bread machine? How about a bread factory that churns out ten thousand loaves a day? It's impossible to draw the lines . . . monopolistic government bureacrats are singularly unfit to draw those lines in the vast grey span that the free market is adept at handling.

Exemptions would only make it even worse. If we exempt food and energy but not clothing and cars, then people will have an incentive to turn up the thermostat instead of putting on sweaters, not to mention keeping junky gas hogs running instead of buying new fuel efficient cars. Exempting all life's necessities would only lead to a ridiculously high rate for the rest . . . so high that tax cheating will be rampant (just like mail order cigarettes).

All those choices about what to buy and how to invest should be free market decisions, rewarded and punished by resource availability at any given moment on a real time basis. Government policies to skew in favor of one kind of consumption/investment instead of another would only lead to waste . . . a classic example would be the ethanol fuel debacle that we just witnessed in the last decade. It takes the government forever to respond to market conditions (too much corn too little gas in the 90's); by the time the law is in place, the condition on the ground is entirely different.

A consumption tax makes total sense. Why tax the good things, like businesses, incomes, and investments? And then we go out and place much smaller taxes on consumption. If we're going to have taxes why not make them so they encourage the good and discourage the bad? Encourage investment in things that add to productivity and quality of life, discourage mindless consumption. We're doing the complete opposite!

I know this won't even register as an issue to most people, but our transportation system needs serious help. It's been in a disastrous state of differed maintenance since the 1970's. Cars are the default solution for getting around. For the most part we haven't built anything new, except for roads for sprawling suburbs for the last 30 years, but the population is almost twice as large.

I also think that with Obama I've got a better shot of legalized "vice" and less money going to state-sponsored religion.

Take a look in the mirror, America, and change your lifestyle before it's too late. No candidate can do much to solve our economic problems when we're bent on overconsumption. And America's economic problems are the real ones to be concerned about. America's image abroad will get a huge boost when Bush leaves, no matter who replaces him. The Iraq conflict, I think, will continue to resolve itself under McCain or Obama. And I predict that the foreign policies of the next President elsewhere (either McCain or Obama) will not be much different than those of the George W. Bush of the last 2 years (although very much different than the Bush of 2001-2006). This election is much less important than the need for a collective self-evaluation about who we are and whether we're willing to mortgage our children for granite countertops, two-sink master bathrooms, quick flipping money, and a new SUV. And it's not only the rich or Republicans who are to blame.

And Alito and Roberts are fine nominees to the Supreme Court. There's nothing extreme about them. What is extreme is the continued insistence that the Constitution somehow explicitly guarantees the right to an abortion.

Very much agree with you on abolishing FED, IRS and all the assortment of government agencies that are designed to distort the market place.

Also agree with you in principle on the need to encourage saving/investment vs. consumption. However, creating more government bureacracy to administer the consumption tax is not the way to do it; this new kind of government meddling will result in endless fights over what constitutes consumption: Is a sweater a consumption item vs. an investment for reducign energy bill? Is a new energy efficient car a consumption item or an investment for future gas savings? What constitutes an energy efficient car? A subcompact that saves 50 gallons in a year over another subcompact or pickup/minivan that saves 200 gallons in a year over another pickup/minivan? The political machination will be endless.

There is a very simple solution to encourage savings/investment vs. consumption right: abolishing the FED and let interest rate be set by the free market place. Interest rate is in effect the time value of saving vs. consumption. Every one has their own time value preference. The sole purpose of FED is placing a cap on the time value of money thereby artificially reducing the time value . . . punishing the savers and rewarding the spenders in the process. The Federal Reserve and rate depressing power plus its various "windows" to lend out money at a pittance is the reason why saving has been punished and consumption has been rewarded in this country.

2. primary home / secondary home / timeshare / residential rental / vacation rental / resort rental / hotel . . . if someone lives in a hotel, is that exempt under "shelter"? what constitutes "lives in"? Can I live in a hotel for one week while away from my primary home? what if it's not for vacation but for rennovation?

3. life-threatening procedures / elective procedures / costmetic procedures / chiropractor / massage therapy / day at the spa / medical device like a scooter / a new ramp to the house / thermospa?

As you can see, a consumption tax with exemptions inevitably gets into vey detailed market choices. At 5% or so, people may not find it worthwhile to argue over it, but at 30% or more as any consumption tax that can generate significant income yet exempt "life necessities" you can bet people will be fighting all over it.

State sales tax experience has already shown that any sales tax over the mid to high single-digits is unmanageable. European VAT tax is the reason why tax evasion is rampant in Europe, and so many Europeans do their major shoppings in the US and in Asia.

Like I mentioend before, I'm not against encouraging savings and reducing consumption. The way to do it however is not inventing yet another federal bureacracy. Our monetary system with the FED is set up to cap interest return on money, so it's a built-in system for encouraging consumption and discouraging savings. Get rid of that, and let the market place set the interest rate, presumably higher so that savers get rewarded for their delayed gratifications, and you will automaticly have higher savings/investment and lower consumption. The beauty of it is that people will decide on what to consume and what to invest, instead of having bureacrats drawing up those lines in the grey areas.

Taxes do not support a country. It's the goods and services that render that make the economy vibrant and the country prosperous. If I could have kept the $60k or so that consituted my last year's tax bill, I would hired another person, and bought more goods and services from other local businesses, which in turn may have hired even more people. Whatever myself, those other businesses and the new employees would have bought with the money are almost certainly would have been more prosperity-inducing than the bureacrats spent the money on: blowing up bridges in Iraq and rebuilding them . . . bailing out FNM and FRE to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars so that Frank Reines can justify his $190 million pay off.

See, taxes have absolutely nothing to do with supporting a country; the country and the economy are supported on the backs of what we produce and render . . . tax collection is just a physical expression of the imbecilic assumption that government bureacrats can allocate the resources better than you can in the private sector.

Hmmm, let's see. My wife just got a 6% raise + bonus. My exports to Latin America are through the roof. We both got and paid in full for our degrees, while working hard. We don't have any debt and sold our home at the bubble peak. Our Effective Tax Rate was only 4% last year

The need for trade and the need for a government to regulate every aspect of all trade are two entirely different issues.

Take your air traffic controller exampl, the flying bombs on 9/11 were in flight for hours, but were never taken down by any air traffic controller. What does that say about the fundamental mechanism behind air traffic safety? the self-preservation instinct of those in the air! We see two-lane traffic along undivided highways all the time. One day I was looking at that from a high rise building nearby . . . two tightly packed lines of cars rapidly passing each other in opposite direction . . . any single driver could cause a massive pile up at any moment by veering off a few feet into the other lane . . . yet it seldomly ever happens. . . why? the self-preservation instinc of all participants.

The weights and measure bureacracy only serves to dull people into thinking that they are getting the same amount of gas regardless where they go. The allowable water seepage through the underground tank walls is as high as 10%! I get my gas from gas stations that give me the best gas mileage . . . the difference can be as much as 20% (17mpg vs. 24mpg in the same car for same kind of driving) from the worst to the best! They are all the same 1 gallon of gas according to the weights and measure folks.

SEC? It took SEC three years to investigage Enron; five years before the perpetrators were in jail. The market took apart Enron in 9 months! The market has already taken apart FNM and FRE (and many banks) for their sins . . . the government regulators on the other hand are talking about bailing them out.

FDA is even more laughable. The last FDA chief is currently in jail for bribery. If the American people were not dulled into believing someone else is watching out for their safety, they'd probably be much more vigilant on their own. This point actually has ramifications on trade balances: China has an FDA that employs 100 times as many bureacrats as our own FDA . . . no their food and drugs are not safer (should give you some hint on the efficacy of bureacracy) . . . their last FDA chief also took bribes and was executed for doing that! What's funny is that, food and drugs are so unsafe in China that middle class Chinese want to buy American food and American drugs because they know government regulations are jokes and they believe American private enterprises turn out safer products. Perhaps, when Americans also caught on the fact that FDA is totally incapable of safe guarding them, they too will buy name-brand American goods instead of buying crap with the mistaken assumption of FDA guarantee.

Here's my list:

1. Default on Federal Government Debt, and default now! So that nobody will dare to lend to the federal government ever again . . . therefore, there won't be federal government borrowing ever again. Government deficit is bad, but government revenue surplus is potentially even worse . . . as that literally means the government is charging taxpayers too much, and surplus will only encourage the pols to think up new ways to spend more money.

2. Raise SS eligibility age to average life expectancy+2 . . . just like the numbers were when SS was invented (was life expectancy+5 at the time). People should save enough for their own retirement for the duration of a statistic average life span (or not retire early!). It's the off-chance lucky ones who live much longer than average life expectancy that there may be a marginal argument for government help out of charity. This policy will also benefit the elderly themselves: they can use their savings to get into better retirement homes instead of having all the government money funding other elderly who never saved their whole lives.

3. Same deal (require their own savings) with Medicare and Medicaid . . . so that elderly can get the medical help that they need based on how earlier choice on whether they'd prefer a safer retirement vs. spending the money when they were young . . . instead of the current situation of elderly savers getting shafted because all the spendthrifts are driving the cost of medicine.

4. Energy and food independence should not be a natinal policy; the FED however should be abolished. The US is food-independent, but that never stopped food price from going sky high when FED went on a wild printing binge.

Stopping the inflation machine is the best thing that we can do for the elderly and the retirement system . . . so that people can decide whether they want to save for a comfortable retirement and have proper medical care when they get sick when old vs. spending it all while young like there's no tomorrow. With the inflation machine and government guarantee for elderly that we currently have, it essentially punish the savers by allowing the spendthrifts jumping in line at the elderly care and hospital counter. No, there's no such thing as unlimted amount of elderly care and hospital staff . . . government guarantee just means screw you savers, your savings are worthless and go take a number and wait in the line just like everyone else, just like all the spendthrifts!

When I vote for a candidate, I look at past record, decision making skills, intelligence and strategy. I also look at who the candidate surrounds himself with. Stupid handlers and hacks, or actual, intelligent thinkers. Since most of the real meat is spin anyway. On that front, Obama is FAR superior to McCain. Unfortunately McCain is too old to change, too "set in his ways" on many issues to possibly have fresh understanding, and lets face it, at 70+ years of age, does not have the energy necessary to REALLY dig in to the issues in an ambitious way to get things done. He would depend more on his "advisors" to make direction, and guess who THEY would be? The same ass clowns that have advised Bushco for the last 8 years. Not to mention, the Democratic majority house would make sure that we would endure 4 more years of NOTHING being DONE, just more bitching about who is more incompetent. At least if we have a visionary, charasmatic leader that at least has the illusion of change, people will cooperate on nothing more than the hope that things will get better. Sometimes, just a good figure head is needed, if he can speak and has vision, that is just a bonus. Obama has all of the above. Sorry for all of you Obama haters, but I agree with Keith 100%, this election will be very decisive. Just remember Bush number 1, people voted with their wallets, and we had Clinton. 1) Who cares what the socialist nuts in Europe think of us? Of course they hate us - they're envious. Living to please others is how life is lived in Scottsdale, and look at where it's gotten them.

2) Supreme court - Obama will nominate revisionist judges who will invalidate the Constitution and destroy whatever little bit of original freedoms we have left. He wants to ban guns and disarm the entire nation, which opens the doors to systematically remove every other right we have.

3) Taxes - McCain understands that any tax hike on any income segment would sink the economy even lower. Obama probably knows this too, but doesn't give a sh*t that he'll ruin the economy for all of us. He's simply playing class warfare in order to get himself elected and enjoy a life of fame and fortune. It's worth it to him to destroy jobs and lower standards of living via tax hikes on the "wealthy" in order to leave office as a relatively young man in his early 50s and have a lifetime of riches via book deals, speaking, etc.

Problem #1: Smart people realize they cannot have a large family. Some have no children as financially it is not feasible.

Stupid people on the other hand, breed like rabits. Until this is stopped, it will only get worse. That's the bottom line. This country gets dumber by the minute.
