The Dem and Rep support of FISA, retroactive immunity and illegal wiretapping shows just how corrupted and anti-constitution your government now is

How did it get this way?

Why have we lost our way?

Because of you, the American people.

You (or your neighbors) apparently don't care anymore.

Fourth Amendment - Search and Seizure

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

The democrats are systematically destroying any sort of left activism that arose in this country as a response to the abuses of the republicans with their scared, completely ineffectual stay in congress. This isn't a compromise, it's capitulation.

Furthermore, in the face of his statement today, i want every cent i donated to the Obama campaign returned.

From Greenwald:

Telling Americans that we have to give up basic constitutional rights -- and allow rampant lawbreaking -- if we want to save ourselves from "the grave threats we face" sounds awfully familiar. He says he will work to remove amnesty from the bill, but once that fails, will vote for the "compromise." Obama has obviously calculated that sacrificing the rule of law and the Fourth Amendment is a worthwhile price to pay to bolster his standing a tiny bit in a couple of swing states.

The more interesting reason I'm posting however, is to note that Ron Paul, Defender of Liberty, was too busy to vote? See http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2008/roll437.xml

I'm confused - at what point did the Republicans become anti-Constitution, anti-privacy loonies?

Man, I sure miss the real Republican party. This new one sucks.

It's just incredible to me how oblivious the average person is when it comes to what is happening in the US. Of course, the media certainly doesn't help. Not one media outlet has even mentioned Kucinich's 35 articles of impeachment against George W Bush and the media blackout of vital information does not end there.

But the average American is absolutely clueless as to what is going on and seems willfully ignorant. All I hear people talk about is sports, movies, entertainment, food and the most trivial aspects of life. Mention something (anything) about politics that doesn't fit their media molded world view and they freak out and say "conspiracy theory!" as if that is some form of meaningful debate or counter-argument.

My point is that the mind of the average citizen is that of a child and it isn't even possible to have a meaningful discussion with them.

I find this account of the rise of Nazism in Germany parallels what we're seeing in America today as the corporate elite rape and pillage and destroy the Constitution and the corresponding apathy of the citizenry:

They Thought They Were Free

It's well worth a read and will help you understand how fascism can arise in a seemingly advanced and civilized constitutional republic.

Bitterrenter loves when Democrats vote for wiretapping to illegally spy on citizens.

That's what I've been saying over and over here at HP. The fake conservatives do not even know what it means to be Republican!!

Talk about lost their way! I find it amusing because these fake conservative Republicans will argue and immediately assume that someone who disagrees with them is a Dem!! It's like, no you dolt, you are a fake conservative, you don't even know the definition of the word "conservative"!!

Un-f*cking-believable!!

Anon 10:02,

A majority of dems voted against it. The vote was 293-129. Only 105 Democrats voted yes, while 128 voted no.

Only ONE republican voted against it.

I'm not sure what you people expect dems to do in the fascist climate we live in. They compromised. That's how civilized people act.

But I wouldn't care if they voted to allow all kinds of snooping. I'd still rather have democrats in control than republicans. As more dems take over and we have a dem president, things will get more liberal. That is unless and until the ignorant crackers like you return power to the fascist republicans.

As it is, republicans will use the vote against the dems who opposed it saying they are "pro-terrorist" or "hate America". See, that's why I DESPISE republicans and wish them all a good case of cancer.

How is this any different than giving the government control of your retirement (through social security taxes), healthcare, education, etc? You voted these Socialist Democrat weasels into power and now you get to bend over. You want to be taken care of from cradle to grave, so you sold your soul to them. With freedom comes responsibility. With no responsibility, comes no freedom. You can't have it both ways.

That's when Karl Rove decided that Mein Kampf was more useful political text than Federalist Papers.

The common element is politics of fear, hating the "enemy", and accuse opponents of being on the enemy's side.

Barack says that working class folks are bitter and cling to guns, religion and xenophobia as a result.

But just taking a quick gander at the posts coming from the nutjob Bitterrenter. He picked his name correctly, and is daily proof that it's the neo-communists that actually seethe with bitterness and hatred.

Other than that he's kind of fascinating to behold (like watching Charlie Mason rail against the system).

So let me guess Keith...

You still believe 911 was pulled off by 19 guys and box cutters.

You beginning to see the big picture Keith...?

Does not matter ...it is too late.

Enjoy your die off!!

Uh, Keith, would it SURPRISE you to know that your beloved Obama voted for this God forsaken bill?

What will it take for you to realize that you were lured in and caught by a shameless, slimy, snake oil salesman from Harvard Law? Another groveling speech to AIPAC? More skanky appointments like Johnson and Jason Furman? More legislation selling out the civil liberties of American citizens? Oh, I know -- maybe an attack on Iran in Spring 2009 with "provocation"?

Come on, step up and admit that you made a BAD endorsement. This hack is no different from McCain. He just has a better bladder, a silky tongue and nicer suits.

You think Hillary would have been hell? Brother, you ain't seen nothing yet. Obama-nation is going to kick your a**.

The 4th Amendment was destroyed 20+ years ago with the invention of "DUI Checkpoints."

They are clearly a 4th Amendment violation - the few conservative judges left in America have stated the same - but the majority of sheeple support them in the name of "safety."

I quote the great and immortal Ben Franklin: "He who would trade liberty for some temporary security, deserves neither liberty nor security."

As for me, I believe in the 2nd Amendment, and if it were upheld and honored, the terrorists wouldn't dare come over here and f*ck with us. Nor would anyone else.

But, alas, the sheeple have traded liberty for so-called "security." I haven't and will continue to have my Glock at my side and ready for duty when that time comes.

More likely that someone you know, say an angry girlfriend, will shoot you with that gun, that you'll accidentally shot someone you know, or that a child will get hold of it and hurt themselves.

But you stick with that Rambo fantasy thingy.

And when they came for Angelo Mozilo you did nothing because you weren't an orange, Tangello-headed thief.

And when they came for the giant Yellow-bellied Iguana of Kagunga, you did nothing because you weren't a feline reptilian realtor on the take.

And when they came for the buy-a-house-get-a-Disneyland trip with your new gay husband crowd, you did nothing because you weren't a homo.

And when they came for the dry-humping, excited, newlywed couples that got scammed with an overpriced mortgage they couldn't understand, you did nothing because you weren't a foolish dolt.

And let it be said that liberty for all is liberty for he, she and me.

And, if and when, the great housing wave of Kagunga shall crash upon the decadent realtor and mortgage broker party full of opulent wine, loose women, flashes of brief nudity and song then the spirit of our Founding Fathers shall rise like a giant Bald Eagle, pissed off and sqawking with mighty talons extended in hate of all that is evil, to smite the usurpers of our cherished liberties and justice for all.

Amen and pass the piping-hot, grandma's buttermilk biscuits and beef brisquit gravy giblet stew.

For in no man hath liberty then no justice shall prevail upon this great land. And vice in pursuit of liberty is no crime, just as weakness and pursuit of pleasure is no virtue my son.

From whenchforth shall justice come if not from god, family and country, guns and ammo?

For you are children amongst men and sheeple amongst wolves. And having tasted the bitter fruit of slavery and tyranny under Mozilo-headed fools, ye have become a naked knave in thine own country, indentured to the commies.

Rise up in sacred-geometrical portentousness, ye heathenous mice, and grab your rakes, hoes, brooms and spirit of American home pride butter top bread and 1800s-style Wild West vigilantism!

What are you, a bunch of vegetarian femmes?

Fight for your freedom, damn it!

Fight like men with hairy chests and hearts ablaze with fire in your bellies!

«I'm confused - at what point did the Republicans become anti-Constitution, anti-privacy loonies?»

Nixon and Reagan did that. Business interests in the 1970s discovered that they could get Congress and presidency and SupCourt majorities to pass corporate welfare and anti-union bills if only they pandered to the Dixie, authoritarian, fundamentalist constituencies. And that many italian-american and irish-american voters in the north and west had got their and turned into authoritarian fundamentalists.

If gays, blacks, latinos and working and under class constituencies were ready to trade protection of their values for corporate welfare bills and anti-union actions, then the Republican party would be to the left of the Democratic party.

The business sponsors of the Republicans are largely non-ideological, they just look at how much value they get per dollar of campaign donation and lobbying.
