Bow before your masters America. I SAID BOW DAMMIT!

Riiiiiight. Because no oil money ever goes to the Democrats.

And because oil companies set the price of crude.

And because oil companies and republicans are the ones who refuse to allow drilling domestically.

Man this blog gets loopier every day.

Oh and have you noticed how the dollar is up to 107 yen these days? It was under 100 earlier this year.

How are those foreign funds doing for everyone?

Okay; I will bow; at my neck only.

But the hidden masters are the law
courts, which are largely hired
by corporations with campaign
money; directly or indirectly.

Please, you don't need to bow to me! I am a shareholder in some of those companies and I have made a lot of money over the last 4-5 years. enough to keep my hummer filled for the rest of my life.

Don't bow but please keep buying and driving....

OPEC doesn't control the oil market anymore? Saudi Aramco is larger than all of those companies combined.

Anonymous said...

They are going to price themselves out of the market very soon. Right now 100% electric vehilces that get aboput 100-200 miles of range are not affordable for the average person.

When fuel hit the breaking point there will just be too much money to be made to not offer electric cars. GM, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Mercedes Benz, etc...they all will be late to the game. I private small company will get their car to market 1st.

Republicans Block Extra Taxes On Oil Companies

WASHINGTON — Senate Republicans blocked a proposal Tuesday to tax the windfall profits of the largest oil companies, despite pleas by Democratic leaders to use the measure to address America's anger over $4 a gallon gasoline.

The Democratic energy package would have imposed a tax on any "unreasonable" profits of the five largest U.S. oil companies and given the federal government more power to address oil market speculation that the bill's supporters argue has added to the crude oil price surge.

"Americans are furious about what's going on," declared Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., and want Congress to do something about oil company profits and "an orgy of speculation" on oil markets.

I'm converting a Saturn to electric. In a few months I won't care what the price of gas is at the pump. Yes, it'll bring prices higher on everything else, but at least I won't be buying gas directly.

Watch "Who Killed The Electric Car", it will open your eyes.

Those extra taxes will be passed on to consumers, you fool. Maybe we can put all American oil companies out of business and depend on Saudi Aramco and PetroChina for our oil. What kind of prices will they be charging us?

I guess your job or industry is recession proof.

Wait until some of this smoke clears, European economies are heading straight for the biggest collapse ever.. While we are all so focused on laughing at the USA, the EU is deteriorating from the inside on an increasingly faster pace.

Its gonna get real ugly across the pond.

Why should US oil companies be charged higher taxes? Do they control the price of oil? They produce what, 10% of the world oil supply?

Oil was 50 cents a gallon for 25 YEARS while everything else went up. From 1980-2005...actually they were $40 in 1980 so they went DOWN. Why did the evil oil companies sell oil so cheaply if they can sell at any price they want? Maybe oil prices aren't expensive now...maybe they were CHEAP (cheaper than bottled water) for TOO LONG.

Ever think of it that way?

No, it's a conspiracy and US consumers have as a birthright the right to 50 cents a gallon oil. No, they don't.

Oil company investment in the GOM, NOrth Sea, is what helped keep prices so low for so long. Now those sources are drying up...is that their fault?

Punish people and companies who actually invested in the past to make oil cheap now that you won't let them drill anywhere and oil prices are high. Does that make sense?

Why would any oil company invest now, given that they'll just get taxed when someone determines their prices are "too high".

Anonymous said...

The oil companies are extemely powerful and wealthy, no question about it, but that's only because our policymakers and lawmakers have kept them that way. And who are the idjits who keep voting for these corrupt toads?

US, of course.

We are those slaves of those we have MADE our masters.

How many of you have read about the Abiogenic Origin of Petroleum?

Its the democrats who are stopping us from tapping out our largest oil reserves.

If we vote them out in the fall, we can have those reserves pumped dry by 2020.

That will make America great again!

Anonymous said...

It'll be OK.

Like the song sez: Same as it ever was... until gas goes from $5 a gallon to $6 a gallon, then TSHTF, turn the lights off, Elvis has left the building, goodnight America.

The Oil "majors" aren't the true masters these days. It's the NOCs - BP, Shell, XOM, et al are getting squeezed everywhere around the globe.

Actually, if you want the one true "master" to bow to, put up just a single picture - of a gas pump.

We are locked into a legacy infrastructure that is hooked on a substance that is nonrenewable (at least in our lifetimes for you abiotic believers out there). The companies are easy to blame and make folks feel good by looking on down on them, but they are just a symptom of a much, much larger problem.

What killed the electric car is the fact you must be a homeowner who lives close enough to work to be within its combat radius. If its RANGE is 50 miles, its COMBAT RADIUS is only 25. How many ordinary people can afford a house close enough to work? I live close enough, but I could never afford to buy a home close enough to work unless I hit the lottery.

The electric car was killed not by conspiracy but poor planning and the ramen-eaters.

8:08 was right. OPEC has the power. And you don't hear about the private Russian, Chinese, Venezuelan, Mexican, Saudi or Kuaiti oil companies because they are not publicly traded. Nevertheless, they are larger than your listed few combined.

Plus, if they are as powerful as you say, then Obama will lose the election won't he?

Anonymous said...

I can't believe Senate Democrats are stupid enough to try and pass a windfall profits tax before the election. It's been tried before, and the results are predictable. Long gas lines, odd/even day rationing, and forced no-gas weekends won't make the Dems nor the Black Jesus popular come October. They should set their disaster in motion after the election.

What kind of nonsense is this?
Saudi Aramco is bigger than all these oil companies combined.
You where way ahead of the masses when it came to the housing bubble, and I congradulate you on that, however does it indicate intelligence or pure luck.
You are way behind the curve when it comes to the energy issue, peak oil is either here or will be here very shortly.
And this issue is much larger and more critical than the housing bubble ever was.
The new power brokers are the countries that own the oil, not the two bit American companies, think PVDSA or Russian Gazprom not Exxon.
The more you write about oil, the more I think you got lucky on the housing issue.

Keith,

You are missing the bigger picture. The real masters of us are the following:

Federal Reserve
World Bank
IMF

Wake up and smell the coffee...

I wouldn't be surprised that after there is a lot of investment in electric vehicles / renewables / etc that the Masters open up other untouched sources of oil (Alaska comes to mind) to send the price spiralling down and crash the alternative energy industry. It happened before 30 years ago, keep your eyes open for this contrarian play.

There is a real issue of true data transparency with respect to sources of oil in the ground. Invest accordingly.

But don't be fooled by the finger pointing at the wrong parties. I would like you to consider amending this post, Keith.

I reminded of a comment from a British friend on how in the late seventies the unions in Britain were throwing their weight around blocking reform. And they were stoked with a big chip on their shoulder. And then Thatcher came to power. Those guys never had a view that didn't involve looking at their ankles for the next dozen years after that.

"Watch "Who Killed The Electric Car", it will open your eyes."

Basic engineering killed the electric car, nothing more nothing less. Trouble was using 1920's technology you could build a car with range and speeds very comparable to todays cars. You couldn't build an electric car with anywhere near the same performance.

"Do any of you understand that you are being manipulated constantly by the media?"

Impeachement is a political process and George Bush did a good job of getting the media in line.

Remember Katie Couric? Her first three interviews were Rush Limbaugh, Thomas Friedman and George Bush.

And, with 8 months left, impeachment is really off the table since people will be vacationing since it's summer-- congress included, so it's really an impossibility.

On top of that, Obama initially pushed coal liquidfication (until the environmentalists walked) and Hillary didn't (initially) want to do anything about health care since "I cannot make promises which cannot be kept."

The piggy bank has been raided and Americans (those in power) will be increasingly desperate in their attempts to get rich and we'll want to hold impeachment trial after impeachment trial!
So the downward spiral will continue.

blah blah blah

Look dude, you can make up endless excuses for how a Bush impeachment is not going to happen but that doesn't change the fact that when a Congressman presents 35 valid articles of impeachment against the president that it should be reported as big news.

IT IS BIG F*CKING NEWS!!! IT IS THAT SIMPLE.

Whether you think Kucinich is a kook and even if we know it may go nowhere it does not change the fact that it is a big news item.

And it just shows that the media is still acting as the mouthpiece and enabler of the Bush Administration in the same way they parroted the claims of the Bush war criminals in the lead up to Iraq and the war propaganda that continues to this day.

It should make you violently mad to be lied to like this but I guess we're all such a docile bunch of wage slaves that our blood doesn't boil with anger the way it is supposed to.

----------------------------------
I commute to Seattle, 17 miles one way, 34-35 miles round trip. Electric car, with lead-acid batteries has 60-70 miles range, twice what I need 5 days a week. With better (more expensive batteries) EV can have hundreds of miles of COMBAT RADIUS. Do a bit of research, you'll be surprised.
How long is your commute? I'm sure it's withing COMBAT RADIUS of an EV. Like they say, electric cars are not for everyone, they are for about 90% of population that drive less than 50 miles a day...

What killed the electric car is shortsightedness of Detroit and collusion with BIG OIL. It's bad business to build electrics, no parts to replace (no oil, filters, plus, belts, fluids, etc) which are a huge profit makers for car companies. They are now paying for their stupidity.

"They" don't have a product I want, so I'm voting with MY DOLLARS and going electric, domestic or foreign car manufacturers be damned. And I'm not enriching BIG OIL or their Saudi friends. The electricity I buy comes from mostly renewable sources and I'm paying a local company, that employs local people.

----------------------------------
Have you seen the movie? In the beginning there is a drag race between EV1, Viper and Miata. EV1 pulls so far ahead you can't even see the other two in the shot. Performance, check.

When EV2 came out, with NiMH batteries it could run over 100 miles on the charge. That was 10 years ago. With today's LiIon batteries who knows how manu hundreds of miles an EV can go. Range, check.

Electric cars don't produce emissions out of tailpipe. Some places like LA can REALLY benefit from that. Pollution, check.

There is a British company, Smith's Electric, that makes electric delivery trucks which you can see all over London. Utility, check.

GM claims to have spent $1 billion on RnD of EV1. Seems like a lot of money, doesn't it, until you realize that GM's annual advertising budget is $25 billion. Sure seems like those shitty gas guzzlers need a lot of "push" to be sold. Stupidity, check.

Need any more convincin'? Just post...

Geez, how many people really live more than 25 miles from work? Even in exurb-hell Phoenix most people aren't that far from work. If you are 25+ miles than you seriously need to move.

As for the rest of the comments, it goes to show how ignorant and stupid the commentary on this blog has become. I love the conspiracy theory stuff about how the media is somehow pro-Bush all because there is one and only ONE right-leaning network.

The rest are all left-leaning and worship Obama.

Damn you people are ignorant.

Oh yeah, and look up who gets the vast majority of Big Oil money. It ain't the Republicans.

And look at who stand the most to profit from the "global warming" hoax, something Republicans oppose. Yep, right again - oil companies will make the most.

There was a good old saying: "Fool me once, Shame on you; Fool me twice, Shame on me !!!".

Thus, how did good old SHRUB get to fool the Americano twice ? Is it because the Americano brain size are shrinking badly such that they can not function mentally or physically any more ? Or is it because they are too busy driving that hunker Ford F250 down the tobacco road, all the while chewing that delicious Red-Man, singing along that honkey-tonk white trash "Deliverance" music, burning that 8 cylinders gasoline chucker engine and running now the cows, squashing the goats, mowing the sheeps at the same time ?. HoooooWeeeee ! What an Americano, what a life !

Well, guess what, it is the evening time now, and the chicken are coming home to roost. Now the Americano will reap what they had sowed 8 years ago. Is it bad enough ? Just barely at $138.00 a barrel of crude oil... Wait until that sucker rear its ugly head to $200 shitty-Americano-dollar a barrel. And then all Hell will break loose. The Americano will be toasted. How toasted, you may ask ? They will be toasted nicely, goldenly and juicely like the good old snapper turtle skewered on a green Chinese bamboo stick from head to ass all sizzling with that nose tingling aroma in the air, fat popping, juices dripping over a bed of red hot charcoal fire.

---- Go Americano, Go SHRUBBY !!!

GM is the only company that can make an electric car. If they don't, then it's a conspiracy. Case closed.

I mean, it's not like there are companies in Europe or Japan who COULD make an electric car. Cause GM "bought all the patents" or something.

Toyota is working on a plug in hybrid. So is GM actually, (the Volt). Why? Did they defect from the conspiracy?

Anonymous said...

For everyone complaining about the price of oil and gas, what is a fair price? Considering it was $40 in 1980, what is a fair price today? Look at the price of palladium and copper since then. Look at the price of corn and wheat. It is not your constitutional right to have cheap sources of energy from other countries. You claim that Alaska is to precious to drill on, what if the Saudis claimed that their land is too precious and holy to drill on? Since they are desecrating their holy land, they should get $200 a barrel.

Chervon/Texaco hold the patent rights to the electric car technology used in GM's EV1. The EV1 was built to meet California's zero emissions mandate in the 1990s.

Big oil hired a lobby to kill the mandate. GM took back all of the cars and destroyed 99% of them.

Yes the electric car was killed by conspiracy. The patent right expires in 2012.

google search "who killed the electric car"

BTW, GM's volt will cost between $35K and $40K. GM wants the government to pay $7K of that.

BULLSH*T I say! Capitalism when it comes to profit but socialism when it comes to staying in business.

What electric car technology? Electric motors? Batteries?

The EV1 used lead acid batteries. It was a joke. Newer cars will use lithium batteries, much more energy dense per kg and per size.

Nissan is making an electric car. Did they forget to join the conspiracy?
