Here's the slide from David Lereah's October 2005 NAR presentation, mocking the housing "Chicken Littles" who ended up being right

I wish David Lereah could be jailed.

I wish David Lereah could be sued.

I wish he could be taken out back and tarred and feathered.

But alas, he can't. He, the NAR and the 1.2 million realtors lied, America got screwed, commissions got pocketed, and they all get off scott free. David Lereah, Lawrence Yun, Nicholas Retsinas, Kendra Todd, Mike Norman, Greg Swann, Blanche Evans, the list goes on and on...

Sure, they'll have to live the rest of their lives knowing they screwed their fellow man for a commission. Sure, Lereah and Yun are unhireable as forecasters or economists, and sure, realtors will NEVER be trusted again. But there's still something missing - some punishment, some retribution, some penalty.

I guess we'll just have to go with the public flogging by blog, and be done with it.

Modern Day REIC Aushwitz needed.

Special Teatment for REIC members:

Angelo Mozilo, David Lereah, Lawrence Yun, Nicholas Retsinas, Kendra Todd, Mike Norman, Greg Swann, Blanche Evans, and the many, many unscrupulous, dishonest fraudulent realwhore, loan people, appraisers, contractors and illegal alien felon invader workers and the list goes on and on...

They all go in whistling the happy 6% commission tune, but none come out alive or in recognizable form...

Soap and lampshades prefered.

Where is Hitler (not amateur hour Bushco-Cheneyburton, the REAL Hitler) when we need him? I'd settle for Dr. Mengele...

Beat a Realtor down today. You'll be glad you did...

Lerah did what he was paid to do. He was a bounty hunter, every sheep he slaughtered put food on his table.

Why not, no one is going to do anything. He is OJ with a bloody knife. He has enough sheep skin to cover all of Arizona.

Keith,
In the John Adams series there is a scene where a guy gets tarred, feathered then run out of town on a rail. It truly adds meaning to the act that was so well portrayed.

That being said; tar and feather is too kind of a treatment for these housing pushers and our politicians.

Every realtor I know is living in a nice big home, drives an expensice car and a lot of money. They have no guilt for what they have done, and most of them are still doing well.

'Chicken Littles'
'Suzanne researched it'
'Bubbles are for bathtubs'
Etc.

One of you clever HPers should write a humorous book about this bubble. You have a lot of material.

Blaming real estate agents for the bubble is like blaming marketers and the entire advertising industry for our excessive consumption and lack of savings.

Sure, a few agents were bubble pushers but others simply rode the increased value of property to greater incomes. Are those that handle the trading of farm products to blame for the current commodity bubble? Or is it the greed of the speculators themselves, the people behind the brokers who execute the trades?

Sure, there are specific people who deserve to be tarred and feathered. Lereah in particular hasn't had credibility for at least the last several years. I've seen some of Yun's presentations and at least he's starting to make reasonable counterpoints but remember, he's also a trade representative. Motive behind a person's words should always be considered.

Look, all I'm saying is it would be helpful to be a little more cautious when you tar an entire group of people with the same brush. I first wrote about the bubble in the Spring of 2004 in a private research report to my (then) firm's clients acknowledging the bubble and warning them about its impacts. I've also been agreeing with you about the bubble (for what.. 3 years?) but disagreeing on how it would play out (unequally, in my opinion) for at least that length of time. And, as you know, I own a real estate brokerage.

He was on NPR the other day. How about wishing he'd just go away?

p.s. - nice copyright infringement on your slide there, Dave. That's from a major motion picture, not clip art.
