Some quick figures:
The Clintons' income over the eight-year period was more than $109 million. They paid nearly $34 million in taxes over the period, 31% of their income, and contributed about $10 millon to charity.
Former president Bill Clinton's speeches brought in nearly $52 million and his books nearly $30 million. Hillary Clinton's book Living History earned her $10.3 million.

I've been digging into the returns, and I think I found the "money shot" they were trying to avoid seeing released...
In 2003, they deducted $147,440 for "cleaning and maintenance" of their 2 home offices (a combined 1029 sq ft)
(see page 30 of the 2003 return under Statements 11 & 12)
There is some debate on my blog as to whether this amount is for cleaning the whole house, or just their offices (I say offices).
However... they didn't try this expense in future years, so there may be something questionable about it.
Yawn. Sorry but nothing earth shaking in their tax returns. Former presidents and first ladies make good money with books. And Bill is an excellent and popular speaker, so he can charge premium for his engagements anywhere in the world. Good for him.
Plus Hillary gave all the money from her other book to charity, they both paid 1/3 of gross in taxes and the rest went to charity.
We're talking about 50 million bucks the Clintons gave back to the country and to charities. Plus I'm glad they're good with Finance because we need smart people who understand economics to turn this country around, not the Mr. Empty Suit Messiah who depends on Rezko's blessings to increase his assets.

You do realize that Bill Clinton charges $250k per speech, which is normal for someone of his importance, and that he's been booked solid around the planet for engagements, right? Just a little back-of-the-envelope calculation here:
$250k X 52 weeks = $13 million
$13 million X 7 years = $91 million
Add books to that, and it's about right. All presidents do that, but Bill can charge more b/c he's the best speaker and more popular than others.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Washington Mutual Inc (WM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) shares fell 11.5 percent on Friday after an analyst said mortgage and other credit problems will lead to a bigger 2008 loss, and may keep the largest U.S. savings and loan from making money before 2010.
Frederick Cannon, an analyst at Keefe, Bruyette & Woods Inc, expects the Seattle-based thrift to lose $3.15 per share in 2008, more than double the $1.45 per share loss he had previously expected.
He also expects the thrift to break even in 2009, after earlier forecasting a profit of $2.25 per share.
