HousingPANIC Quote of the Day

"When you want more than you have, you think you need... and when you think more then you want, your thoughts begin to bleed. I think I need to find a bigger place... cause when you have more than you think, you need more space until you have it all, you won't be free."

- Eddie Vedder, "Society" from Into the Wild, 2007

(side note - really dug listening to this song and Vedder's full Into the Wild soundtrack while driving through the impoverished yet hauntingly beautiful Montenegro today)

Crazy timing.... i watched that movie last night, and found it pretty inspiring.

Maybe think twice next time you see that "bum" hitching down the road...

I watched that movie and laughed my ass off. They glorified this nut job's undiagnosed mental and social disorder. If you drink to the point that it affects your job then you're an alcoholic. If you gamble your pay-check away then you're an addict. If you smoke until your health deteriorates you're a smokaholic. This retard hit all three when he shunned his family and friends, ran away from a potential law career, burned his money... and as the grand finale starved in the wilderness until he died in a sh!tty old broken down bus all alone. Please give this man a gold star. There are extremes of materialism and this guy guy is the poster child. He's just as mental as the ghetto trash driving on dubs who can't afford gas... just a different kind of mental.

Lydell A. Flowers, 32, Overland Park, Kan., pleaded guilty Monday to one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering in a loan fraud scheme.

In his plea, Flowers admitted that during 2002, 2003 and 2004 he was part of a criminal conspiracy while he was employed as an apprentice real estate appraiser for various business entities in the Kansas City, Kan., metropolitan area.

"Mr. Flowers admitted that the actual loss attributable to the crimes in which he was involved was more than $2.5 million," said U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren.

The conspirators targeted low income borrowers by enticing them to apply for real estate loans regardless of their credit rating or financial situation. Conspirators submitted fraudulently inflated real estate appraisals and false financial information to various lenders. At or near the time of closing, the conspirators would impose excessive and unexpected loan origination fees, appraisal fees and higher interest rates on borrowers.

On Sept. 23, 2003, Flowers prepared and submitted an appraisal on a property in the 7000 block of Kensington, Kansas City, Mo., knowing the value was inflated and the signature of a supervisory appraiser was forged. As a result, Hamilton Mortgage in Chicago transmitted by wire $63,405 in loan proceeds.

Flowers faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $500,000. Sentencing is set for June 9.

The Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, the Johnson County Sheriff's Department, the Overland Park Police Department, and the U.S. Secret Service's Financial Crimes Task Force worked on the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marietta Parker is prosecuting.

Most of the new or soon-to-be college grads that I know (ski instructors) want it all but don't want to work. All they see ahead of them is a desk job, marriage, kids, boredom and they want no part of it. So they are planning summer jobs as river rafting or hiking guides. Too afraid to work and begin their lives. As long as mommy and daddy are still footing the bill, why grow up. I appreciate what this kid did and if he had lived through it, he would have a hell of a story to tell to his grandkids. He eventually would have appreciated a roof over his head and food on the table. It's sad he had to die in the process. I think the moral of the story for parents is to raise independent kids who work for what they want and appreciate what they get. Pandering to their every desire creates unhappy, unsatisfied, spoiled brats as we've all seen!

Why do people consume more than they need? I think the answer is to show off their status in the society. And also to pick up girls. That's why divorced men drive Corvettes.

The showing off really works with girls. Somebody told me a story that his girlfriend dumped him for a rich guy. However, it later turned out that the guy only pretended to be rich. He rented a big house for a week. After the rent was over, he moved into the girlfriend's studio and made her pay his bills. I think this is pretty typical.

Consume more than you need, and everybody will think that you are important!

Vedder didn't write that song...but a great song nonetheless...

Vedder collaborates with Jerry Hannan on the song "Society", written by Hannan...
