Wexler calls for Cheney impeachment hearings. Add your signature to the petition

It's probably too late to impeach Cheney (and Bush). But I do hope to see war crimes tribunals in their future, as well as Congressional hearings long after they're gone investigating their misdeeds and law breaking.

My only question will be - same as for the Housing Bubble hearings and investigations - what the f*ck took so long?

The charges are too serious to ignore. There is credible evidence that the Vice President abused the power of his office, and not only brought us into an unnecessary war but violated the civil liberties and privacy of American citizens. It is the constitutional duty of Congress to hold impeachment hearings.

I think the economic crisis and the Iraq war are linked. "911" was a provocation designed to overthrow the US Constitution, thereby installing a fascist regime under Cheney and his backers.

If the USA constitutional republic is toppled then there is little likelyhood that the current global financial collapse would be resolved through a consortium of sovereign nations, lead by the United States.

Go back to the Bretton Woods system and dissolve this current atrocity. The system is dead, dont let the USA and the world go down with it.

Yeah, beating a dead horse is always a great idea, especially when you're a Congressman in a district that is facing record foreclosures. Wexler is a brill-creamed dipsh_t.

As one commentator once said, "we have the best Congress money can buy."

But what we also have is a 30 run at destroying the notion that a 'federal' system of government is even needed.

Many people think Reagan is a saint. He came into office in 1980 saying that government IS the problem. When you have people who don't believe in the purpose of a strong central government, then those people will not carry out the roles and responsibilities of the government.

BushCo is the logical end result of Reaganism. They took office to finish what Reagan started. You want small government? How about almost no government?

Few of the proponents of Reaganism talked candidly about the consequences of a drastically reduced role for the central government. They didn't care to imagine for the public a future set of Reaganites (BushCo), who cared so little about the purpose of central government, that they didn't really care who headed what agency or department. Government for the people, acting on our common interests, was shelved in favor of government for the special interests. In other words, with deep disdain for what they considered 'liberal' government, the Reaganites adopted a political mantra that took the opposite position. Instead of government for the people, it became government for the few.

This is where we are now. BushCo. The most corrupt, incompetent, and yes, criminal, administration in the history of America. Perhaps in the history of modern Western democracies.

Reaganism is a political philosophy of sorts with not too deep roots in conservative political thought. As such, the recent run of Republican success at the national level has allowed this philosophy to have great impact on American culture.

Today, no one is really looking out for the common good (except HPers). We have a failure of leadership that is nation wide, crossing many fields. It is, frankly, without precedent in our short history as a country.

It feels like we've given up. There is no longer a consensus around the notion that "WE" have something in common, and that the common is worth fighting for.

True.

However, Mr. Cheney is a soldier in the employ of the Bush crime syndicate.

What army will be used to arrest him?

What courts will be used to try and convict him?

The impeachment of Vice President Cheney is a noble goal. Unfortunately, it has no chance of success.

Exposing Mr. Cheney's acts of treason and war crimes might cause him some embarrassment, but that's about all.

HA HA HA!Good luck with the Cheney impeachment. After the next election Cheney is going to duck out, take all the money he stole from the wrecked economy and move to Dubia and take up his position as CEO of Haliburton where he will be able to dodge any legal actions against him.
