Open thread to talk about the 2008 Presidential Race

Whoever wins is gonna have a massive problem on their hands. The housing market (and housing ATM) has crashed. We've lost our manufacturing base. The nation feels like it's on the wrong track. Our currency has been decimated. We're $60 trillion in debt and can't pay for the entitlements we've promised. Our military has been broken by useless wars with another one starting next year. And the decision of who runs the free world is left to voters who vote on silly stuff (flag burning, gay marriage, etc) instead of the real issues affecting the country.

So....

1) Who are you supporting and why?

2) What candidate would be the worst for America?

3) Who's most likely to win?

4) Who's most likely to surprise?

5) Will Al Gore enter the race? How about Michael Bloomberg?

6) Will the housing crash be the #1 issue for voters? If not what will be?

Love that picture.

1) Who are you supporting and why?
- Giuliani. He is a fiscal conservative, socially liberal guy who realizes terrorism is real. If Ron Paul weren't anti-abortion and didn't think terrorism was a figment of Bush's imagination he'd be my guy. But I simply cannot be for someone who is so deluded into thinking 9/11 was a non-event.

2) What candidate would be the worst for America?
- Hillary

3) Who's most likely to win?
- Unfortunately Hillary

4) Who's most likely to surprise?
- I know everyone will say Ron Paul and you are all dreaming. It is Rudy vs. Hillary. Get it through your heads.

5) Will Al Gore enter the race? How about Michael Bloomberg?
- No. They know they have no shot either as a Dem or a 3rd party.

6) Will the housing crash be the #1 issue for voters? If not what will be?
- No way. 90% of Americans haven't a clue the crash is happening. It will be one of those issues that is paid lip service to 87 minutes into a 90 minute debate

Supporting RP, hoping he does make it past the primaries. If he does make it, he will IMHO nail the dem nominee. If he does not make it I am behind O bama, though all the dems are right about close with the exception of hillary. She is just wrong. Yes, a woman president, just not that one.
However the illegals and the unwanted houses and the crash and the inflation and deflation will serve as a good underpinning to pass some serious legislation robbing the boomers off some rights. RP will probably be too straighforward to cheat the boomers and illegals and blame each other for the debacles when it was the fed and big money banks all along. Watch as china, Boomers, illegals and the unions blame each other and they all get robbed.
Cool.

1) Who are you supporting and why?

Fred Thompson. He's the only true federalist in the race. I'm not a big fan of the christian social conservative stuff but love his fiscal conservatism, federalism, and support for defense, and most important for me, his support for 2nd amendment rights.

2) What candidate would be the worst for America?

Billary. Total communist.

3) Who's most likely to win?

Giuliani. He's not my republican pick but he has the best shot at defeating a dem-o-crat due to his social liberalism.

4) Who's most likely to surprise?

Biggest surprise will be how badly defeated Hillary will be in the general election. She's far too polarizing and hated to do well outside of wacko cities like SF and Boston.

5) Will Al Gore enter the race? How about Michael Bloomberg?

Neither. Too little too late.

6) Will the housing crash be the #1 issue for voters? If not what will be?

No. Biggest issue will be socialism - tax policy, nationalized healthcare, etc., when you look at what Billary/Obama have in mind it's truly frightening and will take the forefront during the election. Their proposed policies would destroy the economy far worse than the housing crash will.

Im a fiscal ultra conservative, but a social mega liberal, so its always hard to find a good candidate. Here goes;
1.)Mitt Romney-he is the only successful business real world candidate running. Proven executive skills, least annoying of the major candidates.
2.) I think all of them are pretty weak, but I think Hillary is so polarizing that could be a tough one to bear for 4-8 years.
3.) I would advise anyone with a problem with Hillary Clinton winning the election to take whatever measures necessary to get used to that idea, its gonna happen.
4.) The only surprise will be if Obama and/or Edwards grow some ball and start kicking at Hillary.
5.) No Gore and No Bloomberg.
6.) The housing crash WILL be the major issue, but more as a secondary focus related to job losses and job creation made up of retail sale positions and eating joint jobs instead of real jobs.

Just my 2 cents.

1) Ron Paul (R) or Obama (D)

2) Hillary or Rudy. Socialist or Facist take your pick

3) Can't say till we know who the nominees are. It's more open on the Dem side than the Mass media would have you believe... Remember it only takes 51% of Dems who brave a cold Feburary primary to deliver the nod.

4) Obama. I think Clinton fatigue is second only to Bush fatigue!

5) Gore - No? Bloomberg yes (Unity08 ticket)

6) Healthcare. And while i am a free marketeer capitalist to the core. Healthcare IS part of the commons! Check out the Swiss solution here Swiss Healthcare Wiki National healthcare without a Bureaucracy or Huge for profit corporations is possible.

1) Not sure yet

2) Anyone currently on the Republican ticket - probably Giulliani or Romney would be worst; It would also be bad if Hillary wins the democratic nomination.

3) Hillary

4) Al Gore jumping in

5) God I hope so

6) Healthcare will be #1

My answers to my own questions for the record:

1) Who are you supporting and why?

- Ron Paul of course, and when it's Hillary vs. Rudy in the general election I'm thinking of staying overseas for another 8 years. My #2 pick today would be Obama because he's inspiring although I don't agree with many of his policies. I don't like or support any other active candidate.

2) What candidate would be the worst for America?

- Rudy, then Hillary

3) Who's most likely to win?

- Hillary and I seriously can't believe it. She's hated, and she's the fricking first lady. We're now a banana republic.

4) Who's most likely to surprise?

- Bloomberg and his money with Hagel as his running mate. Or Ron Paul taking 15% as an independent.

5) Will Al Gore enter the race? How about Michael Bloomberg?

- Don't think so but if either or both do, it'll be a brand new race

6) Will the housing crash be the #1 issue for voters? If not what will be?

- #1 will be the wars in Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan and wherever else President Cheney has cooked up. #2 will be the economy, which of course is the housing crash. #3 will be something really stupid like flag burning or prayer in schools

Gonna be a fun election. Get ready. In Iowa it'll be Romney followed by Huckabee, and Obama followed by Edwards with Clinton in third place, so not gonna go according to popular perception from the get go

Hillary Clinton, like George Bush, is neither fish nor foul, their neocons. Hillary is loved by the likes of Rupert Murdoch not because she is a conservative, or a even a liberal, but because she is a corporatist. She isn't going to socialize anything. Changes to health care will be superficial and to the benefit of Big Pharma and the insurance industry.

It's hysterical that so many here hate her because they think she is liberal, she's anything but. I despise her for the same reason I despise Bush. Each put corporate interests before the constitution and the country, don't even mention the needs of the nation.

Ron Paul or Mike Gravel might not be corporate stooges. There is an even more remote possibility that Bloomberg isn't, but that's a long shot. The real answer to what will happen next year is nothing good, but no front runner offers a possibility for change.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 12— In a sweeping indictment of the four-year effort in Iraq, the former top American commander called the Bush administration’s handling of the war incompetent and warned that the United States was “living a nightmare with no end in sight.”

In one of his first major public speeches since leaving the Army in late 2006, retired Lt. Gen. Ricardo S. Sanchez blamed the administration for a “catastrophically flawed, unrealistically optimistic war plan” and denounced the current “surge” strategy as a “desperate” move that will not achieve long-term stability.

“After more than fours years of fighting, America continues its desperate struggle in Iraq without any concerted effort to devise a strategy that will achieve victory in that war-torn country or in the greater conflict against extremism,” Mr. Sanchez said, at a gathering here of military reporters and editors.

By DICK MORRIS

Published on TheHill.com on October 10, 2007.

The question looms over the Democratic primary: Why are rank-and-file Democrats so determined to nominate Hillary Clinton for president? With her lead now growing and her vote share registering in the mid-40s, she is increasingly likely to win the nomination. Why?

There is every reason why the Democrats should be more cautious. Desperate to win and bring eight years of Republican rule to a close, they realize that Hillary is a red flag to many voters and would be the most polarizing nominee they could select. While Obama or Edwards could likely reach out to independents and even Republicans, Hillary cannot. One either loves her or hates her. Her very candidacy elicits memories of all the Clinton scandals, from Whitewater and Marc Rich to the gifts to the Rose Law Firm, the Chinese campaign contributions, the New Square Hasidic pardons, the Lincoln Bedroom and Monica. Why do Democrats willingly take on that baggage when two relative virgins beckon as alternatives? And why do they want to nominate the first woman to run for president when there is an obvious danger that sexism could yet rear its ugly head? Why take these risks? Indeed, why do they seem to almost insist on taking them?

You can't be serious. Gore's win was purely political. He is a fraud and anyone who buys into his garbage is a fool. He knows as much about science as Michael Moore knows about health care.

A UK court banned his movie from being shown in schools because it was so full of lies.

HomeDepot empty. Realtors haven't sold a house in months.

Gas at $3. Food thru the roof.

Commercial rental space is available everywhere.

70,000 houses for sale in Phoenix.

Wall Street banks laying off and cutting back bonus after the subprime fallout.

Job market is meek.

38million illegal aliens running around look for work... those day labor hangouts have 100s standing around.

SO TELL ME... WHY ARE YOU BUYING NOW???

Do you like buying parabolic rallies?
Did you buy Nasdaq 5000 and want to do it again?
Do you like absurd P/Es
Do you like down guidance?
Do you think record forclosures is good for economy?

Here is a must see story from PBS (from 1987 no less) that clearly shows why the US is truly screwed beyond belief:

http://tinyurl.com/2v442p

The US basically has a shadow government that determines foreign policy without the consent of Congress and has been terrorizing the globe for over 50 years.

A private, secretive central bank producing fiat money that over the last 90 years has destroyed the economy and continues to destroy the US dollar.

On top of that the US has a worthless, toothless media acting as the PR machine for big government and corporate interests.

There's no way a Ron Paul can save the US when the people are so completely ignorant of the situation.

Totally fvcked!!!

Hillary unless Gore jumps in

4) Who's most likely to surprise?
Larry Craig will run as President with Ted Haggard as Vice Pres they will win and enslave us into Gay Concentration Camps and redesign the flag with a Rainbow flag

5) Will Al Gore enter the race? How about Michael Bloomberg? If Gore gets in we will 4 sure win.

6) Will the housing crash be the #1 issue for voters? If not what will be? Yes once it really hits American families ability to pay there bills.

I was going to answer this but the other posts make me sick to my stomach.

The ONLY politician with an ounce of integrity in this race is Ron Paul. The rest don't even qualify as sane human beings much less potential leaders of the free world.

And the second poster in this thread exemplifies perfectly the total morons we have voting in this country. Giuliani = A complete total raving scumbag lunatic. The sad thing is the rest are not one bit better.

Here's the future : sometime in 2008 the price of oil is going to go thru the roof - $100 will be the floor and God only knows what the ceiling will be ... $200+ seems a fair guess. Oil and housing will crush the stock market and companies will start laying off in droves. Oh and at the same time the currency will be collapsing.

WHOEVER wins in 2008 is going to end up even more hated than GW - as unbelievable as that seems now. The problems we face have their roots in DECADES of screwups and they are way beyond repair at this point in time.

By 2012 the middle class will be under severe attack and by 2016 will be mostly a memory.

Then and only then will the morons that populate this country understand what Ron Paul was saying all along.

But of course, it will be much too late by then.

The devastation that is coming is beyond imagining. And considering that 80+ percent of 'Amerikans' pushed wholeheartedly for the invasion of Iraq - I can't think of a nation in human history that deserves it more.

Hillary (but basically after 8 years of GW and this congress anybody who does not have an R next to their name). She's been around the block and will have the Big Dog as her advisor.

2) What candidate would be the worst for America?
Giuliani. Basically he is a fascist, and incompetent. Not GW incompetent, but probably close.

3) Who's most likely to win?
Hillary

4) Who's most likely to surprise?
Nobody, unless Gore enters.

5) Will Al Gore enter the race? How about Michael Bloomberg?
Who knows.

6) Will the housing crash be the #1 issue for voters? If not what will be?
No. Iraq (god help us Iran) and Healthcare.

To the 9/11 comments above, 9/11 is, in the larger scheme of things, not that important. It warranted entering Afghanistan with overwhelming force, taking out OBL, and rebuilding but not this Iraq fiasco, or surrendering our constitutional rights.

For the record, on ABORTION,,,, a stupid issue anyway... Ron Paul said that Abortion should be governed at the state level and not at the federal level. He is against federal intervention of abortion include RvW.

So, abortion maybe sucking a little human with an Oreck vacuum, but regardless... it should be up to states. In Cali, NY, and Boston, they can hand out home fetus vacuums to 12yo girls. In Iowa and Kansas, they can ban it.

Who cares.

Worry about the dollar value.
Worry about the Facism/corpratism of Ghouliani and Hitlery.

Frank, Look at Fred Thompson voting record on 2nd ammend.. he is anti gun = anti liberty. He is also CFR as with every one EXCEPT RON PAUL.

4) Who's most likely to surprise?

ron paul has already surprised a few. wouldn't be surprised to see clinton having a few rocky primaries before she comes through though.

5) Will Al Gore enter the race? How about Michael Bloomberg?

no, but the boy keyes has!

Will the housing crash be the #1 issue for voters? If not what will be?

no, only for those directly affected. it would be a bigger issue if an incumbent were running. the #1 issue is probably the character of the candidates. assuming it is clinton and giuliani then they'll have plenty to chew on!

1. Supporting Romney. If you get past the tv moments for each candidate you see Romney has the most detail behind his proposals and is willing to stick his neck out and say this is what he will do. Other candidates, notably Hillary, just state generalities and it is important to me.

2. Hillary, today's syndicated article from Krauthammer gave me hope it won't be as bad as we think.

3. Hillary - the establishment wants her to win and I never bet against the house.

4. Third party candidates never surprise they just are an amusing sideshow. Unfortunately with such an alienated Republican base a 3rd party would sound like a good idea and cement the democrat win.

5. They will only enter the race if they feel the media is ignoring them.

6. A candidate would be very smart if all they started talking about was the Economy.

I support Edwards. I believe strongly health care is so, so broken, and needs to be much more available. (I worked in the inner city and saw much
suffering due to many reasons, and lack of access is definitely one of them)
Hillary would be the worst because she can be bought.
Al Gore most likely to win if he tossed in his hat, otherwise Romney or Giuliani.
Most likely to surprise? Bill Richardson.
Al Gore could enter under duress,
Clinton/Obama implosion, Edward's
scandal
Do not think Bloomberg will enter
Number one issue will be the drop in the standard of living due to a loss of affordability across the board, housing, medical, gas, and food.

terrorism is real.

Well so is drunk driving, except that drunk driving kills 10,000 people per year in the U.S. In the last 200 years, terrorism has killed 3,000 people in the U.S. total. I have to say that terrorism is a joke compared to deaths caused by such things as bathtubs.

So remind me again why we are spending 720 million per DAY fighting wars in foreign lands?

Giuliani. He is a fiscal conservative

Don't know what you are smoking... NYC debt rose by $16 billion during his tenure in office to a total of $43 billion.

1) Who are you supporting and why?

I not so well informed yet about the candidates. Both McCain and Obama seem OK to me, also Richardson; Romney seems a bit too slick and too rich, Guiliani is a one trick pony and was considered a failure in New York before 9/11. Hillary might become a good president, but I don't like her personally and she is driving a bail-out of the lenders now.

3) Who's most likely to win?

Hillary.

4) Who's most likely to surprise?

Ron Paul could do it, because the other republicans too often avoid taking a stand of their own.

5) Will Al Gore enter the race? How about Michael Bloomberg?

Neither nor.

6) Will the housing crash be the #1 issue for voters? If not what will be?

If we are in recession by spring 2008, which is likely, the job market will dominate. Health insurance (no jobs with benefits) will come seconds, Iraq only third, because nobody will win who just wants to stay the course. Immigration (where are the jobs?) will be small, because no bill will be in congress then (the democrats are not stupid to give momentum to immigration critical republicans).

There are too many severe problems for a single person to put them right.
Whichever political party wins this election will have a lot of voters against it during the next election. It’s a no-win situation. Just hang on and get through the next few years.

If the terrorists mount a credible attack on US soil prior to the election, it’s all over for the Democrats and the Housing Crash will be back on page 5.

If Bush continues to flounder but stops another attack it will be more difficult for a Republican to win.

Hillbillery has the most momentum but she will be the absolute worst thing that could happen to us all. You think the housing crash is bad, her policies will bring ruin and damnation.

Housing will still be slumping by the time the election rolls around. Those who can't afford their resets will run away from their loan obligations and their overpriced houses and start renting again by then. Our attention will be on the Middle East and Iran. By then, Iran might have the bomb and Israel may have already attacked sparking a large-scale conflict.

The other major issue will be illegal immigration where hordes of wave after wave of invaders continue to circumvent immigration laws while our leadership looks the other way. Americans have woken up and have had enough. Sorry to say none of the viable candidates will do anything at all about the problem including Clinton, Obama, McCain and Guiliani.

Tancredo is the only candidate, who would stand up to the carnage of this invasion, but he is 3rd tier at best and like Ron Paul, has no chance to win.

I like Mitt Romney because he comes closest to my ideal candidate idealistically but I do not think he will win.

Thompson has not shown the statesmanship and charisma on the recent Debates and is already losing Ground.

Edwards just sucks along with Biden and the other losers on the Democratic side.

Overall, I do not see any candidate that will have the balls to make the difficult choices our country needs to retain our global power and leadership.

China is rising and will continue to dominate the globe for the foreseeable future.

Let it go folks and sheeple alike, I give you yet another hard core-"family values"-Republican pervert of the week:

Friend of Falwell" minister dies during bizarre sex play

On 24 June this year, 51-year-old Reverend Gary M Aldridge, senior pastor at the Thorington Road Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, was found dead at his home having failed to put in an appearance at that morning's services.

Here's a copy of the Autopsy Report:

The decedent is clothed in a diving wet suit, a face mask which has a single vent for breathing, a rubberized head mask having an opening for the mouth and eyes, a second rubberized suit with suspenders, rubberized male underwear, hands and feet have diving gloves and slippers. There are numerous straps and cords restraining the decedent. There is a leather belt about the midriff. There is a series of ligatures extending from the hands to the feet. The hands are bound behind the back. The feet are tied to the hands. There are nylon ligatures holding these in place with leather straps about the wrists and ankles. There are plastic cords also tied about the hands and feet with a single plastic cord extending up to the head and surrounding the lower neck. There is a dildo in the anus covered with a condom.

Hoo-wee, this nasty Rubber Fetish boy from hick country, who apparently wasn't so conservative with dildo sizes, was another Republican "conservative", "Christian" reverend who didn't believe in evolution, highly involved with the GOP. You Republican boys have a closet full of skeletons, don't you? What's wrong with you, people? Every week is a new Republican pervert making the headlines. Oh, BTW, the Republican DA was trying to cover this one up since July...too bad, busted! You are a bunch of geniuses! Please, do the planet a favor and don't breed or vote!

Sheeple, sheeple, when are you all going to realize that corporations along with powerful rogue groups (like the Israelis, secret societies, etc) are going to elect the next president? Your vote doesn't count anymore. Simple, they pick the American presidents, then create a crisis to extort your tax money into their pockets. Just like in Iraq, Katrina, 9-11, etc.

The new one from the shady group that operates within the government is Rice trying to sell the idea that the US needs missile bases in Poland because Iran might invade Europe. Can't you see the absurd that this people are selling to you, in order to transfer your money into their pockets? Can't you see what's going on right in front of you?

We are nothing but a bunch of puppets now who work to transfer money into their pockets. So keep spinning that hamster wheel with the mouth shout, and go buy Chinese crap in the mall on weekends, like the nice sheeple you all are. They pick the American presidents, not you.

You can't be serious. Gore's win was purely political. He is a fraud and anyone who buys into his garbage is a fool. He knows as much about science as Michael Moore knows about health care.

A UK court banned his movie from being shown in schools because it was so full of lies.

Only people being laughed at are morons like you who are gullible enough to believe him.

Here is the story about the UK

You might want to read the story that you linked. The court allowed the movie to be shown.

1) Who are you supporting and why?

Ron Paul speaks much sense, but let's be serious. Of the candidates out there, I have deep misgivings about all of them, on both sides.

Leaving policy out of the picture, I think Obama is the most honest and charismatic. I don't agree with his ideas, though.

2) What candidate would be the worst for America?

Brownback or Tancredo (good thing neither has a chance).

3) Who's most likely to win?

Hilary. Not my favorite candidate, but I don't think she'll be the disaster she's being made out to be.

4) Who's most likely to surprise?

I hope Al Gore.

5) Will Al Gore enter the race? How about Michael Bloomberg?

Probably not.

6) Will the housing crash be the #1 issue for voters? If not what will be?

Number one will be the flagging economy and a rising tide of protectionist sentiment.

Number two will be the suddenly increasing terrorist threat manufactured the current administration to help the GOP candidate.

Number three will be a fight over the life of some vegetable, flag burning or ten commandments crap.

1) Who are you supporting and why?
Hillary Clinton
a)the way she handled the Bill Clinton sex scandal makes her the most qualified candidate by far. (She’s got more character then all candidates combined)
b)Conservative talk radio had given her more publicity in the past 10 years than any other person alive today
c)As the first woman president she will need to prove that she’s tuff enough.
I pity the fool who attempts to attack America under her watch.
Hell hath no wrath like a woman scorned.

2) What candidate would be the worst for America?
Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul

3) Who's most likely to win?
Hillary Clinton (Its as obvious as the housing market crash was to HPers in ’05)

4) Who's most likely to surprise?
Not sure so much on the ‘who’ question
But the biggest surprise will be on how many Conservative / Fox news watchers
Will actually vote for Hillary, I’m willing to bet the numbers shock the religious right.

5) Will Al Gore enter the race? How about Michael Bloomberg?
Al Gore is in the same class as Ron Paul both total idiots.
Michael Bloomberg will not run this time around he’s too smart.

6) Will the housing crash be the #1 issue for voters? If not what will be?
The Global Economic Crash will begin to show immediately after the China Olympics, and will likely be the chatter on the MSM.

Keith,
What are you doing in England? That's enemy territory (with the accent on Tory), read below. Are you just another British agent playing both sides against the middle?

London, Not U.S., Controls U.S. Mortgage Crisis
October 11, 2007 (LPAC)--Three quarters of the adjustable-rate mortgages taken out by buyers with shaky credit standings, and about a quarter of the hybrid ARMs taken out by those with good credit ratings, are tied to the London Interbank Offered Rate, or LIBOR, which is set by global investors and banks in London.

This is a dramatic change from only a few years ago, when most ARMs in the U.S. were tied to the prime rate set by American banks, or rates on Treasury bills largely controlled by the Fed. At the time, the Fed could provide immediate relief to overburdened ARM customer with rate cuts. Now these same ARM customers have to depend on the jolly good will of the London-based investors and banks.

The fact that the London Interbank Offered Rate is used to set the rate on ARMs puts the statements by Bank of England Governor Mervyn King about not cutting interest rates in a new, more interesting light.

I reaserched Ron Paul and watched all his videos on You tube..He has alot of interesting insights into America today..But because he is anti abortion and womans choice I will not support him..

Hillary is the best Choice.

I wish Gore would run. I voted for him in 2000. I went to a rally in Miami Beach.. days before the election standing room only and the crowd was massive ...I still can't believe he lost Florida.

Oh well.

Cleaning up the mess Bush left around the globe will be Job 1 for a few years.

Any candidate can find supporters anywhere in the country. The GOP held its convention in NYC in 2004, and hoky fuck Bush lost NY state.

I support Ron Paul for president. He is the only one running that IS NOT A POLITRICKSTER. He has a track record that backs up what he stands for. He has never voted to raise taxes, he has consistently voted against the USA Patriot Act, regulating the internet, the Real ID Act and the Iraq war.

His history in congress for 10 terms tells us his values. Words are cheap as we all understand from history as other politricksters can say anything and then once they get in office do another. He is the ONLY ONE speaking about our current course is bring this country to bankruptcy. Who cares about all these silly emotional issues the politricksters use to take your attention away from the important issues. He is gaining MASSIVE support daily as his message is ringing true with Americans who love this country.

Go to www.ronpaul2008.com and view the poll straw results bottom right of page. It is incredible how well he has done and the MSM is still force feeding Americans rotten information.

what will leading presidential "pre candidates" say and or do regarding this piece of insanity?

October 13, 2007 (LPAC)--Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, formerly of Goldman Sachs, and his sidekick, Treasury Undersecretary for Domestic Finance ("Plunge Protection"), Robert Steel, also from Goldman Sachs, are trying to orchestrate a crazy $100 billion bailout scheme, which dwarfs the $3-4 billion bailout arranged for hedge fund LTCM by the Federal reserve in 1998, according to today's Wall Street Journal.

Under the plan, all the top US and perhaps some British banks, will join to create a "receptacle," which will buy up the worthless so-called assets held by the "structured investment vehicles" (SIVs) of Citibank and many other banks. Although these mortgage-backed securities and collateralized debt obligations are worth nothing, the new "super-conduit" will lay out $100 billion to buy them at their current nominal value, or close to it, in order to try to sustain the lie that all the hedge funds and banks together, which hold trillions in such worthless "assets," are still solvent.

The "super-conduit" will raise the funds to buy the worthless SIV assets by selling short-term debt to the public. But why would anyone be crazy enough to buy it? Here's the catch: it will be backed dollar-for-dollar by the consortium of banks which Paulson and Steel are trying to put together. The banks are to put themselves on the line for this worthless paper,-- in reality, for the hedge funds and the British Empire.

The tentative name for the "receptacle" is Master-Liquidity Enhancement Conduit, or M-LEC. If the banks agree, its announcement could come as early as Monday, the same day Citigroup releases its results.

The level of political thinking and many comments are incredulous to me.

Way too long an election season for most people while spending hundreds of millions. The politicos and media hacks have nothing else to do to fill time/space other than the Hollywood and sports jackasses.

Regular readers seem to be out doing things on weekend.

Know a great deal and work on issues. Basically, we know the country is run by L & R vested interests. Run by totally irrational to outright thieving vested interests against taxpaying citizens interests and longtime interests of the country.

1. Ron Paul-His overall agenda is shaky in a few areas, but he seems like he would be most qualified to rectify the blunders of the last administration.

2. John McCain- He sold out on immigration, he supports Bush's war, he sold out to the far right on social issues, and he's not addressing the cycle of economic bubbles. This is sad. I really thought he would have been our best choice back in '99-2000.

3. At this point, Hillary- Bush has destroyed any Republican hope, so at this point it has to be the Dem front runner

4. Huckabee- The South votes as a block. Watch, they will not vote for a non-Southerner. He will make the primaries alot closer than anyone is giving him credit for.

5. No, too late in the game.

6. No, the top issues will be- the decision to go to war in Iraq, the continued escalation and poor planning on Iraq (as a separate issue). Presidents usually seem to get a free pass on bubbles.

To genx and other women:

Ron Paul is NOT anti-abortion. Again, he said he'd allow the state govt's to decide its legality. Don't get sucked into the Hilary camp just because she's a woman. She's just like the rest of these goons. She doesn't give a rat's ass about women or issues that women care about like health care and education. These Hper's are correct when they say she's a corporatist. And why are people so concerned with minor things like abortion, flag burning, gay marriage......don't you see those things are used as distractions from the bigger picture (economy, jobs, etc...) Joe Stalin. He's a problem solver and besides, he's dead so he's the safest person to put into office.

2) What candidate would be the worst for America?

Any Republican or Democrat.

3) Who's most likely to win?
Some establishment criminal.

4) Who's most likely to surprise?
If I knew who, they wouldn't be that person.

5) Will Al Gore enter the race? How about Michael Bloomberg?

Big Al might, he needs the money to pay the utility bills at his mansion. Bloomberg? I think the name says it all.

6) Will the housing crash be the #1 issue for voters? If not what will be?

Here's why Ron Paul will win:

Now add in some fired up Ron Paul supporters.

Nearly all of my friends are non voters, but have registered Republican to vote for Ron Paul in the Primary. (I've NEVER voted in my life or even registered to vote, but marched today for Ron Paul)

The surprise? Ron Paul will win the Republican nomination. Just watch.

For any Republicans on the fence:

No other Republican has a chance of beating Hillary in 2008. Except Ron Paul.

So if you don't vote for RP in the primary, Hillary will be your president.

Who would you rather have? A vote for Giuliani or Romney or Thompson is a wasted vote. :)

1) Who are you supporting and why?
Dr. Ron Paul because
-he wants to end the income & inflation tax -- not all taxes for those who don't know the difference
-he wants to stop wasting money on imperialism so we can spend it on defending ourselves, our borders and our infrastructure
-he wants to move away from the federal reserve monopoly
-he's a better person than a lot of us - he does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension plan (how many of you would turn this down?)
-he cares about our Constitutional rights and did not vote on the "patriot" act
-he wants to end the war on drugs because prohibition doesn't work except it's quite successful at fueling organized crime
-the list goes on and on for why I am voting for him

2) What candidate would be the worst for America?
any of the mainstream media darlings because it will be more of the same

3) Who's most likely to win?
Dr. Paul - he's kicking butt in terms of sheer numbers donating to him, the military support, polls that the media takes down because he does so well, straw polls, etc.

4) Who's most likely to surprise?
Dr. Paul because he's not a mainstream media darling

5) Will Al Gore enter the race? How about Michael Bloomberg?
hope not, they are more of the same...
we were sticking our noses in the business of other countries under Clinton/Gore as well, raided social security to "balance the budget", etc

didn't Bloomberg ban transfats or something? what kind of a-hole forces his food choices on others?

6) Will the housing crash be the #1 issue for voters? If not what will be?
possibly since people only care about themselves

Dr Paul did not think 9-11 was a non-event -- he supported going into Afghanistan, but wtf are we doing in Iraq other than enriching government contractors and killing soldiers and civilians?

marque and reprisal, proposed by Dr Paul, would be much more effective at fighting terrorism and less costly in terms of lives and money. if you are serious about terrorism, Dr. Paul is the right candidate. traditional warfare doesn't work against terrorism. they are not a standing army.

how does it make RP supporters look bad to organize and vote for him? voter turnout in real elections takes more effort than clicking on a button on an internet poll. voter turnout can be pretty low in the real election. Reading thru this section you’ll find some common things with Ron Paul supporters.

·Very negative and pessimistic view of life today and the future
·Name calling anyone who disagrees and continually bashing our fellow country men
·Always painting a bad picture of America, and never hear anything bad about those who are trying to kill us.
·Angry.

In short ‘UN-AMERICAN’

By contrast Hillary Clinton IS the American story.

She has been publicly humiliated and smeared in front of the entire globe.
People in poor countries who can’t even figure out how to attain fresh drinking water know that Hillary’s husband cheated on her.

Yet she remained true to her commitment.
She moved on and forgave.
She’s now out there running for president of the USof A, very well aware that her challenge is greater then all other candidates running.

America Loves Hillary for the same reason America Loves Rocky!

All the odds are stacked against her, but her believe that this country is still the only country on this planet were focus, commitment and a little elbow grease will make your dreams come true.

Disclosure: I was conservative Republican leaning, up until the day I found out that Newt Gingrich cheated on his wife, it was at that moment when it was clear to me
how evil the right was to the Clintons.

1) Who are you supporting and why?

I like Obama, but I'm worried he's going to listen to his advisors and start dissing Hilary, rather than running a campiagn on his own policies.
People who can only win by attacking other candidates are a huge turn-off to me- stop telling me how bad/evil X,Y and Z are, and tell me why I should vote for you instead.
If Obama tanks, then, amazingly, I'll go for Ron Paul - despite being on the Republican ticket, I've always considered him a Libertarian. His pro-life choice is a worry to me as a woman, but if he respects the States decisions to uphold or overturn Roe vs Wade on a state-by-state basis, then its a compromise I can live with.

2) What candidate would be the worst for America?
Pretty much any of the other GOP candiates besides Ron Paul. They're all same-old-same-old, and my gut feeling is that the US wants and needs fundamental change.

3) Who's most likely to win?
Probably Hillary, unfortunately. I try to like her, as she's a woman democrat and all, but I just don't like her personally. Plus, I'm tired of the serial Surname monarchy going on - there's 300 million people in this country, surely we can find people without the names Bush or Clinton to do the job.

4) Who's most likely to surprise?
I wouldn't be surpised if the Schumer/Brownbeck coalition doesn't throw up some interesting things.

5) Will Al Gore enter the race? How about Michael Bloomberg?
I don't know enough about Bloomberg, and I don't think Gore will bother. Though I wouldn't be surprised if Gore wasn't asked to hold some govt position, if a Dem wins.

6) Will the housing crash be the #1 issue for voters? If not what will be?

I doubt very much that housing will be in the top 5 - Iraq, Ilegal Immigrants, Abortion, Gay Marriage and Flag Burning are the key issues, obviously ;-)

(well, #1 and #2 are).

Anonymous said...

I'm supporting Ron Paul. My political views are just like Ron Paul's, although I am harder-line on immigration maybe even more so than Tancredo -- I'd also ban any more refugee admissions and let the refugee industry go bankrupt. We don't need any more stone-age Africans or Muslim Iraqis or TB-infected Burmese and Hmong, thank you very much.

The worst for America? Hitlery followed by John McCain.

Most likely winner would be Hitlery. Lord save us!

Ron Paul is surprising already. Let's hope he does a whole lot more.

Al Gore? Probably not. Many Americans are turned off by his constant going on about global warming. Bloomberg? Maybe...

#1 issue will be the crappy economy, of which the housing crash is simply the latest symptom.

WHOEVER wins in 2008 is going to end up even more hated than GW - as unbelievable as that seems now. The problems we face have their roots in DECADES of screwups and they are way beyond repair at this point in time.

Whoever said this, I heartily agree, this mess was YEARS of socialist policies coming to fruition.

First, the federal reserve act unsurped the power of congress (as required by the constitution) to regulate money.

Second, income taxes became permanent, and allowed socialists the way to enslave Americans while pushing their policies.

Third, Americans became convinced after the depression that a powerful central government was the way to go - this was definitely NOT what the founder thought and what they deeply feared.

Finally, the rise of government public schools allowed socialists to indoctronate, oops, educate our children.
