Housing Doom brings you the smoking gun. This will make you laugh, then it will make you mad. Our nation was run by monkeys these past 6 years. And now the house of cards is all falling apart. The Bush Administration - the best president the homebuilders' and NAR's money could buy.
From Bush's HUD secretary Martinez in 2003, addressing the puppetmaster homebuilders:
We also must work in close partnership to dispel the myth that our nation is experiencing a "housing bubble."
Although the United States is the best-housed nation in the world, we as a country still face a housing shortage. In fact, housing experts, economists and analysts met this past week at a conference in California and concluded that the momentum gained from low mortgage interest rates will carry strong home sales through the end of this year.
Not long after 9-11, however, a number of leading experts predicted that the housing bubble would burst. They were clearly wrong. Instead, many Americans chose to simply delay, rather than cancel, their plans to buy. And home purchases ended up reaching an all-time high in 2001. While the final numbers are not in, sales in 2002 are expected to eclipse the 2001 record.
Bubbles of course do burst, but the housing market is not in the same category of other weaker and less competitive sectors of the economy.
Plus, this Administration is making it easier for people to purchase their own homes - a change that will help drive home development and sales. And, it will help more minorities become homeowners.

This article ignores all the illegals that were going to be granted amnesty under the plan Martinez dreamed of. This is the same guy who was leading that effort. When you look at it under THAT light, the comment does not seem so preposterous now, does it? ;)
I'm not so sure the bubble was in 2002-2003. Some areas were bubbly at that time. Things really got out of hand in 2004-2006 with the subprime and liars loans. Don't get me wrong, I think the Bush admin is the most corrupt and incompetent gang possibly to ever occupy the White House.
Also, there is nothing wrong with promoting home ownership, but they did nothing to stop the rampant fraud committed by the REIC and flippers. It is justice that this ponzi scheme collapses while Bush is still in office so that he will be remembered as the worst President ever. Thanks alot Palm Beach Democrats for being too stupid to use a butterfly ballot.
the United States is the best-housed nation in the world"
Didn't he mean HOSED?
The bubble didn't really get going until late 2003 in most areas. He gave this speech before 2002 numbers were in. At that time there was no bubble. I bought my house in 2001 for $189,000. It was oneof the first homes in a new master planned community. In 2002 the same home was going for $205,000. By 2004 it was $350,000 and I sold in 2006 for $450,000.
I suppose Bush deserves some blame, but if he does, this is not proof of anything.
2003 was a completely different housing market than 2007. And do you think Gore, part of the team that gave us the dot com bubble, would have done anything differentlY?
that's not a monkey. it's an ape which we all are according to darwin.
But there's no difference between republicans and democrats, right?
That evil Bush - forcing people at GUNPOINT to buy houses they could not afford...and then the black helicopters came.

Why do common people stick up for Bush? Did any of you happen to know that the members of Skull and Bones refer to everyone else as "savages." They hold nothing but contempt for you and in their eyes you are no more than a plebe whose back they can stand on.

Democrats get you to buy into the dotcom bubble, Republicans get you to buy into the housing bubble?
Why do people blame their own actions on Bush?
I was arrested for beating up my wife. It's that damn Bush's fault.
You guys sound like a bunch of morons.
Things Bush is responsible for:
open borders
illegal wiretaping
Iraq War quagmire
Things Bush is NOT responsible for:
HELOCs for vacations
flippers lying on loans
investors buying toxic junk debt
Shhhhh...
I hate Bush as much as the next but I wish you'd quit yammering about this "being Bush's fault". At any rate, the Clinton administration had as much to do with the RE bubble.
If you keep yammering on Bush, he'll feel even more pressure politically to *do* something. EXACTLY what I do not want to happen.
I'm begging you to quit attacking the Chimperor on the RE Bubble. There are plenty of other solid reasons to hate the guy. Please stick with those.
Leave him out of the RE blame game for all our sakes, so that prices can just plummet and we can get this debacle over with. Pretty please Keith?
