Is Bush approval rating now tied to the housing collapse? The Worst President Ever now at a shocking 28% (ouch)

HP doesn't seem to get the pro-Bush trolls anymore. Even people who voted for Bush in 2004 are probably scraping the bumper sticker off the car right about now.

Simply the worst president in the history of the United States. The damage this man and his cronies have done to our country in 6 short years is amazing. I'm not sure the US can ever recover.

You get the leaders you deserve folks. Maybe next time people will think a bit harder before they vote (although Kerry? Ugh). Or maybe they'll demand better candidates (Hillary Clinton? Rudy Giuliani? Come on! Want change? Two words: Ron Paul)

Newsweek: The Elephant in the Room
George W. Bush has the lowest presidential approval rating in a generation, and the leading Dems beat every major ’08 Republican. Coincidence?

May 5, 2007 - It’s hard to say which is worse news for Republicans: that George W. Bush now has the worst approval rating of an American president in a generation, or that he seems to be dragging every ’08 Republican presidential candidate down with him.

But According to the new NEWSWEEK Poll, the public’s approval of Bush has sunk to 28 percent, an all-time low for this president in our poll, and a point lower than Gallup recorded for his father at Bush Sr.’s nadir.

The last president to be this unpopular was Jimmy Carter who also scored a 28 percent approval in 1979. This remarkably low rating seems to be casting a dark shadow over the GOP’s chances for victory in ’08. The NEWSWEEK Poll finds each of the leading Democratic contenders beating the Republican frontrunners in head-to-head matchups.

The polls on the first presidential debate have Ron Paul as a decisive first place, but the media won't say a word about it.

Ron Paul seems like a crazy not gonna happen idea, but with the internet and the masses able to give $10 a pop, and his winning the MSNBC debate poll, it's a bit less crazy than it was last week

If the religious right crazies run the GOP, then Fred Thompson wins. If the libertarian faction comes back from the dead, Paul has a shot, albeit a long shot

Give the guy $10 HP'ers. At least you can say you tried to make a difference vs. sit on your ass

And times haven't even gotten that bad yet. Bush could be in the single digits by the end of his term.

Great! We get a presidnet who has spent spent spent. Conservatives and libertarians are upset. So what will they do...vote for a liberal Democrat who will spend, spend, spend even more.

What the fuck is the matter with you people?

I'm tired of Republican's saying that Democrats will spend and spend when the previous congress are the ones that rubber-stamped us into this deficit quagmire, K-streeted their way to absurd policies that we may never recover from and last but not least turned the blind eyes in their Congressional committess to what their political contributors in the banking industry did to give you all so much material to rant and rave on this blog about! We won't even metion the war. No other party DEMS or INDEPENDENT could ever do what this administration and the new generation of republicans have done. Guess what, I have crossed out the Bush/Cheney on my bumper sticker. Until Republican's act like citizens for the constitution and not autocrasy, then I don't know where I am but it is not REPUBLICAN!!! Good god, where's the accountability, I am embarrassed. As previously said on this blog "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it (that is lying and lying and lying to the American people) anymore!"

Here is why Ron Paul cannot win:

EVERYONE IN THE U.S. IS A SOCIALIST.

Something like 53 percent of Americans receive "substantial" income from government checks. Biggest employer? Government. Biggest factor in everyone's life? Government. Schools? Government. Health care? Government. Pensions? Government.

Biggest household expense? Taxes.

Ron Paul is a great man, but he is trying to sell freedom to people who don't want any of it.

Both Republicans and Democrats will spend to the high heavens. The only difference is that the Democrats will actually tax more to balance out the level of spending.

As for Ron Paul, I admit it's refreshing at this point to hear from a Republican who is so different than the other Republicans. But if you decide you like him, make sure you understand his position on all of the major issues. Pick up a copy of the Bill of Rights and read it, because that's what Ron Paul believes in, to the letter. If you want gun control, for example, Ron Paul won't have any of it, because of what the Second Amendment says. Also, keep in mind that like Bush, Ron Paul will not change his views and his agenda just because other people don't like it. Both Bush and Paul are unyielding people.

I think the best candidate overall right now is Obama. He comes from a diverse background, and he is willing to listen to people who don't agree with him. I think that's the most you can ask for right now.

Thank you for your post. I just wish more Republicans would wake up and realize that Neoconservatives like Bush, Cheney, Rove, etc., are neither Republicans nor Conservatives. They are just a bunch of liars riddled with corruption who are preying on the rest of us....

Hey, whoever did that housing rollercoaster video should do one for Bush's pull numbers. Given the conversion of potential energy to kinetic, Bush's ride is a screamer right now!!!

I count among my friends a single, hardcore Republican. He and I chat about three times a week. During the hey days of Bush's popularity this individual couldn't say enough kind things about HIS president. Now, he never mentions the man's name. Never, ever. In fact, when I bring Bush's name up, this man physically winces (of course, the wince might be elicited because I'm usually laughing and slapping my thigh when I talk about Shrub).

Bush is an embarrassment to even the true believers. I'm stunned that > 10% of Americans have a high opinion of Bush. I always figured that about 10% of the American electorate were simply retarded. Guess that number ought to be nudged up a bit.

Isn't it time to think about abolishing the office of president? Keep the trade barriers of the USA, but let the individual states set the agenda on foreign relations and internal taxation. And reform the Fed.

Uh, Keith, Thompson's poll numbers w/ Evangelicals is the same as Giuliani's: 17 percent. Who knows what the future holds, but right now there is no proof in this statement.

Blaming politicians for mani's and bubbles is ridiculous. What did you want Bush to do, implement price-controls on Housing? No Thanks, Comrades. This is a free country, and that means that people are free to make bad decisions.

Shouldn't we just let the multi-nationals set the agenda? Think how efficient it would be!

"Why isn't JEB Bush running?"

Because he's smart, and knows that he hasn't a snowball's chance in hell of being president.

First, his name is Bush. Second, he engaged in some shenanigans to get the current shitheel into office.

In fact, I hold him more responsible for GW's failures than I do GW himself. Jeb, probably more than anyone, knows what a retard his brother is, but did that stop him from tampering with due process to get him elected?

You guys can say whatever you want about the Clintons, but when Bill was president (I wasn't voting those years, by the way) it was much easier to make money, buy a home, find a good paying job with good benefits, commute to work, fill the gas tank, take long vacations, live without worries, get good health insurance, find affordable rent, pay for college, having discretionary money leftover, etc. We were much happier, too.

Case in point, my wife was laid off last month after working 10 years for the same assh***, because he decided to outsource her tech/analyst job to another country. Now she's having hard time to find another decent job. To top it off, everything is so damn expensive in this country since Bush took office, as you know.

You [impartial] guys tell me if Republican administrations are better to our lives. Take a good look back to the 90s when Clinton was president and compare to today.
It's been crap to my family even during Bush senior. And we are highly educated Americans, bilingual, with advanced degrees from good universities. It's been nothing short of a fight to maintain our careers secure or fresh in this country, even as we constantly invest in expensive education and transferable skills.

Sure, we can become slaves and sell our skills and expensive education for $40k per year like most jobs are offering these days, but I rather become a street hot dog vendor than sell ourselves cheap to ungrateful and greedy companies. Good thing we are frugal because our years of saving and living debt free came handy.

My wife never expected to be laid off since her company is in a very secure sector, immune to crisis, business cycles, or recessions. The decision was based on pure greed. Our jaws dropped when her boss, very cold, just told her that the company was letting her go after 10 years of hard work, never taking a sick day off, or missing work. She didn't even take vacation for the last couple of years because of so much work and dedication.

These corporations have become so inhumane that they waited first for my wife to finish a very difficult project and report to a Fortune 100 company, before letting her go. As soon as she delivered the well made project, they sold it to the customer and then dumped her on the following day. After she organized the entire department, set up an efficient system, and established a relationship with major customers, the company had all the knowledge they needed to give it in a plate to a foreigner overseas who would do it for less cost and benefits, by just copying what took years of hard work for my wife to set up.

I see this disgusting behavior as a reflex of the current government, which also doesn't give a rat's arse for its citizens. It's all about money, power, and expensive hookers. That's why I tell you, prepare well because no job is safe in this country anymore. The companies here don't give a damn about good employees and this government couldn't care less about you either. If you think that your job is safe and layoffs just happen to other people, think again. We naively believed in that, too.

If you think that another Republican president will make things better, you are mistaken also. It will be more of the same: cronyism, wars, incompetence, dollar weak, high cost of fuel, expensive cost of living, increased violence and poverty, corruption, waste, high deficit, etc. Why would anything change if most Republican candidates on the last debate side with Bush on everything, always backing him up? Four of them even don't believe in evolution.

Did I mention that my wife's bosses are all hard-core Republicans, "very religious", and previously worked for a Republican administration?

Here is why Ron Paul will not be president: He is even more Conservative than Baby Bush.

You are a complete moron - it was under the Clinton administration that federal oversight of banking was relaxed, as was the implementation of GATT and NAFTA. It was under the Clinton administration that the stock market bubble, fueled by cheap good imported from China (given speical trade status by Clinton, as well as open military technology trade they inevitably used to advance their ICBM targeting systems)that inevitably fueled the housing boom.

The point is we Americans are getting pathetic leadership chiefly because our morals have collapsed and our societal structure has collapsed. We need more goverment oversight over our people because our people cannot impose self-restraint. As Ben Franklin said - "You have a republic - if you can keep it." "This government is wholly inadequate for an immoral people."

"This is a free country, and that means that people are free to make bad decisions."

For example, like allowing a restaurant owner to choose to allow/prohibit smoking in their restaurant? Or, allowing an adult to choose whether to smoke marijuana, snort cocaine, or inject heroine etc.? How about allowing someone to drink a 1/2 gallon of whiskey and then drive their car down a highway if they want? Or, how about letting a woman, or an underage girl, sell herself for sex?

Oh, I guess some controls are needed, comrade.

Right on! They lie about everything. They even lie to us about the little things now. Several weeks ago they said Bush would not be available to throw out the first pitch to open the baseball season. They said he was "too busy", yet he spent the entire next week at his ranch in Texas on vacation. I bet he doesn't throw out the first pitch next year, either. I bet he becomes the first sitting president since LBJ to be asked to stay away from his party's nominating convention next year. I bet they lie to us again and say he is "too busy."

Sure, you probably had to put your wife to work (or hooked up with someone since then), and both of you bring home $58k each. Now deduct inflation from that low individual income since 2001.

Aren't you that troll Warren Buffet wannabe who lives in Glendale, AZ?
