It's the "HousingPANIC Ron Paul Screw the Establishment" Fundraising Drive

I've put a permalink at the top of this page, and also here linking to Ron Paul's contribute page, and if you can give $10 (or more) you'd be doing yourself proud. If you give (or gave) record it here and how much, and I'll total it up in a few days to get the HP'er tally.

For an indication of why Ron Paul is completely unlike any of the other bozos running today (which is why he's catching fire), here's his take on immigration, which as you know almost completely agrees with mine and many HP'ers. Yes, the truth hurts. But someone's gotta say it.

Border Security and Immigration Reform

The talk must stop. We must secure our borders now. A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked. This is my six point plan:

Physically secure our borders and coastlines. We must do whatever it takes to control entry into our country before we undertake complicated immigration reform proposals.

Enforce visa rules. Immigration officials must track visa holders and deport anyone who overstays their visa or otherwise violates U.S. law. This is especially important when we recall that a number of 9/11 terrorists had expired visas.

No amnesty. Estimates suggest that 10 to 20 million people are in our country illegally. That’s a lot of people to reward for breaking our laws.

No welfare for illegal aliens. Americans have welcomed immigrants who seek opportunity, work hard, and play by the rules. But taxpayers should not pay for illegal immigrants who use hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, and social services.

End birthright citizenship. As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be citizens, the incentive to enter the U.S. illegally will remain strong.

Pass true immigration reform. The current system is incoherent and unfair. But current reform proposals would allow up to 60 million more immigrants into our country, according to the Heritage Foundation. This is insanity. Legal immigrants from all countries should face the same rules and waiting periods.

Just what the country needs - another Texas Republican for president. Grow up, Keith. Leave the politics to the grown-ups.

I agree with Ron Paul's stance 100%. Round them up and send them home.

Who is responsible when an illegal alien, driving without a license or insurance, injures, or worse, kills an American citizen?

Those who refuse to enforce our laws should be made to answer for the loss and the deaths that are a direct result of illegal immigrants.

If he runs as a strict libertarian...ie drug legalization, abolish public schools, it will be very easy to paint him as "outside the mainstream"....Sure public schools are a disgrace but if you come out and say "abolish them", it just sounds too crazy.

He has to be a practical libertarian, and then maybe, just maybe he could win the nomination.

There isn't much enthusiasm for Guiliani or McCain...I'm not sure about Romney. Thompson could easily win it but I don't know if he even wants to run.

HEY YOGSOGGOTH - Do you have another candidate in mind that isn't selling out to corporate interests? Pay attention to what the man stands for and not his political affiliation. If he ran independent he wouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell, would he? That's how it stands, if you want any chance at all, you call yourself a Republican or Democrat and there is very little difference between the two. Either one can flip flop, depending on which direction the money is flowing from. Now then!
I'm sure you missed the terrorists that were nicked before they shot up Fort Dix right?

Last week, federal agents broke up a terrorist plot to kill U.S. soldiers at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Three of the six men arrested were in the United States illegally. just as many of the 9/11/01 terrorists were.

If the President, "open borders" supporters in Congress and the other presidential candidates have their way, future terrorists will keep coming into our country...and once they're here, they will be eligible for a "path to citizenship!"

THAT HAS TO BE A PRIORITY for this country. People that sneak in DO NOT get citizenship or anything else. We MUST be able to screen people before allowing them in this country. Otherwise there is no war on terrorism is there? Bushs attempts are a facade, a sham when you let people flood this country with no control.

I agree with Ron Paul also. Of course the people disagreeing with him are the 20 million illegals PLUS their legal family and friends so they're a force to be reckoned with. Good thing the majority of them don't vote :)

Other than perhaps RP's immigration policy, sure seems like I heard his talking points before from some other Texan dude running for Pres back in 1999.

That worked out well.

Why are housing prices 50% too high in Southern California, part of it is that half the homes are occupied by 2-3 illigal families all croweded into the house.

Want to stop 90% of the illegals, fine the companies who hire them 100K per day per illegal and imprison the CEO of the company for 30 days per illegal hired.

"Who is responsible when an illegal alien, driving without a license or insurance, injures, or worse, kills an American citizen?"

Who's responsible when a tourist, legal resident or U.S. citizen driving without insurance, injures, or worse, kills an American citizen?

I think the driver in any of those situations is responsible. The outcome will also be similar in each of those situations.

I agree that we need to have a much stricter immigration policy, but why use some hypothetical that really doesn't relate to the issue at hand? All you seem to be doing is trying to play to people's emotions.

Hey Yogsoggoth, What’s so childish about endorsing a candidate that respects the founding tenets of the constitution?

Sorry Yog, it’s folks like yourself that are sinking the republic. It’s time to vote in a real conservative to the White House.

You dont like the Kennedy/Bush/McCain/Reid plan. You solve illegal immigration by making everyone who is illegal, legal.

They just cost $1,000,000 over thier lifetime each.

Next plan from our brilant government to end the DUI problem. They will raise the limit from .07 to 1.0 (I think .8 will kill you). Problem solved.

I, and many young people 25-35 will do so, when the prices drop 50% as a result. Think about it, if prices dropped 50%, instead of us throwing away just about 1/2 of our take home pay on rent in bubble areas, we could all buy the homes and then have lots of money left over to spend on crap from China.

Ron Paul is going nowhere, sadly.

He doesn't reflect my philosophy at all, but at least he is a legitimate, and intellectually consistent and reasonable alternative.

Why?

The GOP is run, at the top, by the corporatists who don't want a free market, except a free hand to rape the people and loot the government and put out propaganda saying how wonderful it is.

They get their power by playing up actual racist and religious supremacist stereotypes along with profoundly retrograde Jesusfreakism.

Jesusfreakism doesn't want liberty---they want Their Tribe to lord over The Other Bad Tribes---and to use the power of the state to do so.

They hate the idea of tax money going to The Wrong Kind of People, but don't you dare take one dime of their precious social security! "Socialized medicine is horrible horrible disgusting, and GIMME MY MEDICARE NOW!"

GOP operative: bamboozle the idiots who vote for us while we ruin their jobs and loot the Treausry---in the name of smaller government!

Evidence: how else is Bush still getting 30% approval ratings?

In any sane world it would be like 3%---as was so for Boris Yeltsin in the end of his term.

This means that at least 60% of the actual Republican voters are incorrigible morans.

Ron Paul appeals to (european-connotation) liberal nerds with money and good health insurance who think that logic and ethics plays a primary role, versus tribal grunting. That's going nowhere.

http://www.lewrockwell.com/vance/vance109.html

As a Christian, I admire Dr. Paul’s principled stand on many issues, but I don’t believe the leadership of the Christian Right will embrace him. I think they love centralization more than federalism. I think they love political power more than liberty. I think they love war more than peace. I think they love politicians more than principles. I think they love faith-based socialism more than the free market. And I think they love the state more than God Almighty.

I dislike his stance on many social issues but think some modicum of fiscal responsibility is the single biggest issue by a longshot, hence feel my hand is forced -> 25 to Ron, more later.

If he doesn't win I'm moving to Australia.

Anonymous said...

Just contributed $50 to Ron Paul.
Government policy (i.e. the Federal Reserve) helped create this housing mess. Apparently he's the only candidate willing to expose this. Subprime and unethical brokers helped fuel the fire but the root of the bubble was low interest rates for too long. Anyone with an interest in voting should be primarily concerned with the economy and those issues (i.e. illegal immigration) that affect it. I'm a woman and pro-choice but that wouldn't stop me from voting for Paul. Abortion, gay marriage.....all a distraction by the MSM.

I think the housing bubble was created by our mongolian candidate leaders to keep us fat and happy while America is sold out to Globalism. Ron Paul has the balls to tell it like it is.

It should be remembered that we are not acquiescing to a new dictator but rather exchanging, by way of election, one branch of the federal government.

Ron Paul would be the first to state that his powers under the executive branch are limited by those of the other two branches. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves and believe that our destinies are sunk in the founding tenets of the constitution.

I like Ron Paul's stance on the war. He's about the only Republican (or Democrat, for that matter) who was against it from the beginning.

The immigration thing? Ridiculous. It's A-OK to let corporations move entire operations across borders, looking for the cheapest labor (and devastating American communities in the process) right? But it's not OK to let workers cross borders looking for better pay? Come on.

My grandparents were immigrants. Very likely, so were yours. They helped make this country great. These new people will help make America great again. I've met quite a few of these folks - and the ones I've met came here to work, and work hard.

"Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

BTW - Ron Paul will not be president in our lifetimes. The BIG BOYS make those decisions, and Ron Paul don't fit the suit.

Yogsoggoth, that is JUST what the country needs -- a politician who believes in the supremacy of the Constitution.

Too much politics is in the hands of partisan and vicious "grown-ups" who think the US Constitution is just a piece of paper that doesn't apply to our times, or doesn't apply when the President declares something.

I see the Republican lineup now as I came to understand the 2004 Democrat lineup. There is one extremely sound candidate (Paul/Dean), and the rest are establishment weenies who love corporate money a lot more than Constitutional law, liberty, or anything else. The Repubs will sh*tcan Paul just as firmly as the Dems did Dean (even Kucinich) in 2004. Some establishment RINO like Guiliani will gain the party nomination, in order to continue the modern tradition of keeping the party wholly beholden to corporate sponsors.

P.S. If anyone actually believes the Repubs will promote fiscal responsibility vis-a-vis the housing bubble, stop deluding yourself. The modern R party is a borrow-and-spend party, like the Dems are a tax-and-spend party. Both parties will spend the United States into a Second World world nation. We're just going to follow Russia into its current socio-economic oblivion.

I don't believe that the Executive can affect the "Birthright Citizenship" issue, but, if another Strict Constructionist/Federalist gets on the Supreme Court, a case challenging the current interpretation of the 14th amendment's phrase:

"... and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, ... "

MIGHT win. If people are here "illegally" they are, in one sense, invisible, but they are still responsible if they violate a law (hit and run driving, etc.). Does that make them "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" or not?

If we get rid of all illegal immigrants, we must be prepared for much of our food to triple or quadruple in price.

Most people do not realize that our fruits and vegetables are subsidized by cheap immigrant labor.

Not to mention all the other sh*t, low-paying jobs out there.

But hey, I bet Ron Paul would get rid of subsidies altogether, resulting in Mexican corn farmers, African cotton farmers, etc. actually resulting in them being able to make a 'living wage' in their OWN countries.

Hmmm, still on the fence about Ron Paul. Don't know if he is electable because of some of his more extreme stances. He would abolish the federal Department of Education, and pass a constitutional amendment for school prayer.

Also, he has proved through his voting record that he is not 'environmentally friendly'. John Q. Public and the MSM are making that a main issue this election.

blogger said...

Here's his amendment on school prayer. You'll note that he's saying it's up to the individual what to do or not do, not the government. Very libertarian, very separation of church and state, although I am disappointed he wants to even touch the constitution, which I'm against. I don't think it's needed in this case either.

________

Nothing in this Constitution shall be construed to prohibit individual or group prayer in public schools or other public institutions. No person shall be required by the United States or by any State to participate in prayer . Neither the United States nor any State shall compose the words of any prayer to be said in public schools.

Keith,

I read the amendment, and didn't intend to mislead people into thinking he was forcing prayer on students.

What I do find disturbing, is not only the idea of a constitutional amendment, but also the possibility of having a scenario where a class day starts with a Christian "morning prayer", has some lunch-time Wiccan weirdness...and ends with kids chanting "om mani padmi hum. Not to mention the noon and mid-afternoon prayers of Muslims.

I realize that he is not requesting school prayer, but I can't help feeling that this amendment would have a negative affect on the separation of church and state. Seems unnecessary to open such a pretty big can o' worms.

Regarding the 14th amendment? Yes. This is incontrovertible---the intent was to extend citizenship to slaves who previously had no rights whatsoever.

Changing birthright citizenship absolutely requires a Constitutional amendment, and any strict constructionist/original intentist (these are different!) must agree.

For example:

"Congress has the power to regulate the citizenship of persons born in the United States to those parents of whom none has permanent immigration status under the laws of the U.S."

Donated $75. Ron Paul is the only candidate honestly addressing the root problems of our political and economic systems. There are no reforms in taxation, monetary policy, entitlements, foreign policy or government authority that will improve our rapidly deteriorating economy unless those reforms return government to its Constitutional limits. Please read Ron Paul's articles in the archives at safehaven.com. Also, see his interviews at YouTube. Ron Paul is a practical libertarian who is trying to get Americans to understand that unless we rid ourselves of a central bank (the Fed) and learn to live within our means, we will end up a bankrupt nation (technically we already are) and we will lose our republic and our freedoms. As far as this being a housing bubble blog, it makes no sense to talk about a housing bubble without addressing the cause of the bubble which is FED monetary policy. Of course, the only candidate addressing this issue is Congressman Paul. Please Yahoo his article,"Don't Blame the Market for Housing Bubble."

"Who's responsible when a tourist, legal resident or U.S. citizen driving without insurance, injures, or worse, kills an American citizen?"

Then let's just throw open the border so anyone from around the globe can walk into the US and do whatever they like. Why do any background checks? Why exercise any disgression at all?? After all, the average US citizen is no greater risk than someone from any other country up to and including some Jihadist walking across the mexican border headed to Los Angeles with a suitcase nuke. Do you know how utterly idiotic that is?

I am not being xenophobic in saying that there are a LOT of f-d up people in this world who grew up in f-d up ways who would be a danger to society if unleashed in the US, either directly or indirectly. We may not be able to deport the f-d up people in the US but we sure as hell should know who is coming in and whether we want to take a risk on them. That should be the idea behind the naturalization process, not to just blanket accept anyone and everyone and not even know who is here.
