Half a million to live in a dump. Are we mad?

If I paid half a mill to live in a dump like this, I'd have to question my sanity.

You get one life folks. Working like a slave and spending 50% of your income (or more) to live in a hellhole is folly. You don't have to live in towns like this, you don't have to work for companies who are based in towns like this, and you definitely don't have to spend $500,000 to live in dumps like this.

There's a better way.

Come to Calgary Canada to see insane. The condos in this video are HUGE, and CHEAP!!!!

wait. arent you the one saying the dollar isnt worth anything? it's $10 for a pint in the uk right? that's 50k beers. and 50k beers @ $3.50/beer here in the states makes these houses actually cost 175k.

I used to live in SF but left when I got married and started a family. Loved it there but completely unaffordable.

it's all relative though. A $350K condo in let's say I dunno Kansas City will cost $175K. But a job paying $90K in SF will pay $45K in KC, so how are you better off moving?

The luxry ghetto town homes & condos of wilmington dela$h!th0le has them beat. 300k+ condo's & 500k+ townhomes build on old industrail toxic wste dumps along the Christina river and in the middle of a bombed out crime infested hellhole ofa city where its unsafe to walk around at night & during the day with legions of panhandlers, hobos, homeless freaks, drug dealers, biker gangs etc. Read the crime section

Why is anonymous arguing with himself again?

$500,000 is more money than 100 Indians or Chinese workers will make in their lifetime

You're talkin' jive about Wilmington.

I used to live there, and agree wholeheartedly about the luxury development you describe. Otherwise it is a strving little city of 75,000 with a tiny ghetto (Hilltop) and a vast, green neighborhood of gracious homes built in the 20s/30s in part for narrow-minded, huffy bigots like you. They're overpriced, too, but cheap enough that before the bust the neighborhood had started to attract Philadelphia commuters.

This is repeated throughout parts of the country, especially in California. Half a million for a single family home in Compton. Half a million for the worst part of the San Fernando Valley where you will get shot.

Idiotic.

Even Phoenix, with some homes approaching $350K to $400K for a single family, isn't worth the agony of five months of Sahara-like heat. People are nuts.

you know they have this nifty new invention called a/c which I hear is readily available in Phoenix

not moving somewhere solely because of hot weather IN THE SUMMER is beyond stupid

"not moving somewhere solely because of hot weather IN THE SUMMER is beyond stupid"

Ummm... definately not beyond stupid when you consider energy is only going to get more and more expensive.

Anonymous said...

keithm in addition to awful spelling (definately is not a word friend) you have no clue about energy either I see.

Solar and wind energy in places like Phoenix will make electricty very affordable in the future.

Anonymous said...

oh and keithm,

how much do you think it costs to heat a home in Phoenix in January? Hint: not much

"not moving somewhere solely because of hot weather IN THE SUMMER is beyond stupid"

Anonymous- you are no less than a douche. Most people like to do things outdoors during the summer. In extraordinarily hot places (and even DC for 2-3 months), you cannot even go outside during the day and, thus, are stuck in the home, the office, the car, the movie theater, and the mall. It blows as much as you- douche.

Enjoy your air conditioned prison. And be sure to enjoy that 200 degree car in the parking lot.

Same thing here in DC. I was on a local realtor's website and decided to do a search of properties under 300K- only two condos in buildings that looked like they were built in the 1950's popped up- each 297K.

The world has gone completely mad.

I visited a friend in Phoenix (Goodyear, AZ) last month (April). The high temp. was 104. Last I checked summer starts in June.

Everybody is trying to sell in Phoenix now. Even my friend who moved there 3 years ago. Of course, no one is buying. And everybody including my friend is getting burned because they put deposits down on houses in 05 and 06 and can't move because they can't sell.

People are still running around trying to get 300K for a house in Goodyear. It's funny and sad.

Meanwhile, huge developments are going up in places like Goodyear and Buckeye.

Sorry anon # 2 but 75% of the city is a bombed out hell hole & I see nothing racist about the first post.

I am amazed at how people will defend such unlivable places.

Browntown, southbridge, all the neighborhoods that surround hilltop, the entire east side etc etc etc are unlivable, crime & drug infested. Maybe you've not been their lately but let me tell you its not the Philly commuters, its the natives. The philly commuters live in Newark, not Wilmington, they know better.

Buddy, i went into the market the other day and saw lobster selling? at 30 bucks a pound, last month i did not buy some at sixteen, and have not had one in ten years as i thought 10 bucks was to much??????????

Anonymous said...

maybe last month i shoulda kept my mouth shut about gene splicing and mass breeding lobsters, maybe somebody got intelluctual property rights on the lobsters? also read about the govt finding 1 trillion barrels of oil under the rockies on govt lands, and have not heard anything else, i guess it was either a big sign saying to the do unto others people, that they should come and protect their strategic societal needs on us, or the powers to be have set up the giant land grab rip off, of what ammounts to more oil than the middle easts kings, sort of like screaming, hit me if you can

I think what is really crazy is that a regular house is now $1 million in many California cities.

Here's a concept for you: a ratio of incomes to home prices. The higher incomes are relative to home prices then the better off you will be by moving there. This ratio is not equal everywhere you go.

That is why San Diego is so unaffordable, only 5% of households can actually afford to purchase the median priced home. This is why home prices in San Diego are and will continue to crash.

The job is KC pays 80k and it's worth it to move from SF to KC.

Nobody can afford to move to California except for illegal aliens and rich Asians. What happens when the Asian bubble bursts as it did in 1998? There won't be a dotcom bubble around to save the economy.

why would the asian economy bubble burst. It won't until after the olympics.

"Are we mad?"

Yes. It's all madness. Everyone should just put on green capes and pointy elf shoes and wait for Gandalf to show up. I love imagination and dreams, but I always thought reality was pretty important too. Guess I was wrong. Lol, great post.
