The Republicans are about to lose the House and Senate, and the Bush administration will now be subject to subpoena power. Housing crash impact?

Not only will the Republicans lose both houses of Congress, they'll lose convincingly. The American voter is about to send a crystal clear message to the powerful that they've screwed up, royally, and it's time for a change. Similar to 1994. Every decade we throw the bums out, and just get new bums I guess. But it's a change, and change is good.

Whether that's the Iraq fiasco, losing our manufacturing base, allowing 20 million illegals to break into our country, not dealing with entitlements, spending like drunk sailors, allowing a horrific debt and deficit, or helping to create the mother of all ponzi schemes in the late, great housing bubble, Americans are fed up with Republican leadership, and they're not going to take it anymore. Out with the corrupt fools.

So, given that truth which will be heard loud and clear around the world, what will the impact be on the housing crash and stock market? Will Bush or Cheney be impeached? And will the Democrats be any better?

Well Keith - I think the dems taking charge will only buy a couple more years before the iron fist of fascism takes over - our goose is cooked either way.

When the Dems take over Congress, Bush will be impeached and put in jail for the illegal war in Iraq and selling out this country by encouraging companies to outsource jobs to India & China.

The housing crash will continue on the same path at the same pace. The Dems must find a way to convey to the public that the widespread pain that will be felt starting in 2007 (the first year on the Dem takeover of contgress) is the result of failed Bush economic policies so that the people will know whom to blame.

I think Bush might be more unpopular for being the guy at the helm during the housing crash than all the death and destruction in iraq in the end

Win or lose the Republicans are beginning to remind me of the Whig Party. Oh, and Karl Rove is light in the loafers.

You got it - from Network, I give you Howard Beale played by Peter Finch:

I want you to get mad!

I don't want you to protest. I don't want you to riot. I don't want you to write to your Congressman, because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write. I don't know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street.

All I know is that first, you've got to get mad.

You've gotta say, "I'm a human being, goddammit! My life has value!"

So, I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window, open it, and stick your head out and yell,

"I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!!"

Karl used hang out at JR’s, which is on 17th between P&S, before he became so well-known. This is a “respectable” gay bar for discreet people who do not wear mesh panties, high-heeled pumps and wear terrible wigs. How many people know about these activities? In Washington, a hell of a lot of the prominent. But very few of them dare to open their mouths because of their own small problems.

I KNEW IT!

That's not what Rove is saying. Maybe he can be confident, because he knows who controls the voting machines.

Let's hope the Democrats have enough nous to prove it this time. A comprehensive strategy including exit polls should do the trick.

But maybe that's Roves strategy. It's not like you could say:

"I hope you like spending the next couple of years shareing a cell with Big Bubba."

Is it?

The Democrats are running on three stated issues. Rolling back recent tax cuts, increasing the minimum wage, and impeaching bush. They have not come out and said that they will end the war in Iraq, but they have implied that they will set a timeline for a pullout. If the Republicans lose both houses I believe the following will happen:

Bush will not be impeached. Impeachment hearings and investigations WILL begin, but the Dems will run out of time with Bush in office for two years.

The war in Iraq will not change because it can't change. It's a mess and the Democrats don't want to be responsible for the mess.

The final nail in the coffin of the housing market will be made when the Dems propose to reduce the home mortgage tax deduction to houses that are valued at $250k and less. This is one of their tax proposals they will strongly push. If this happens, one of the key reasons the NAR uses to influence people to buy homes will be thrown out of the window.

Roccman said...

Even if the Democrats sweep both houses in November, it is doubtful that the enfeebled congress will have the power to confront the omnipotent “unitary” executive. Bush has all the power now; and what he says, goes.

America is presently in a long, downward spiral. It could be years before we hit rock bottom. Our military is grinding down, our alliances are increasingly frayed and tenuous, and public opinion has begun to wane. The tectonic-plates of political good-fortune have begun to shift. There won’t be any more “good news” coming from Iraq.

David in Jax has it exactly right: The Dems will destroy things just like in the 1930's. Increase taxes in the wrong places: the reduction in deductibility of mortgage interest is in character with them. I also look for restoring the old taxation of estates over $200k (The Law until 1994!); the Dems have proposed that one before. Those two will be the equivalent of the Smoot-Hawley tariff of 1930. Mandatory averaging of basis for all capital assets; you'll have to treat all your securities & real property the same way you're encouraged to average the basis of your mutual fund acquisitions. All a plot to herd people into mutual funds for the shearing & fleecing; mutual funds are notoriously expensively run (read their annual reports!). An about to go out to look at a condo open house; have already talked to the mortgage predators. They hate me 'cause I'm asset-rich and income-poor & talk to them in exchange-traded debt terms instead of equal-monthly-payment terms. Looks like if I buy a condo I'm going to pay 60% in cash and 40% with deductible margin-loan. Classic interest-only debt with sinking fund: just like old-style exchange-traded corporate debt: that's something I understand. $12,000 a year instead of $1000 a month. Wish me luck with the real estate raptors.

"Hotel Minibar" Keys Open Diebold Voting Machines

By Ed Felten, Princeton University
September 18, 2006

This article was posted on Prof. Felten's blog, "Freedom To Tinker". It is reposted with permission of the author. Click here to watch Prof. Felten demonstrate a hacked Diebold TS on Fox News.

Like other computer scientists who have studied Diebold voting machines, we were surprised at the apparent carelessness of Diebold’s security design. It can be hard to convey this to nonexperts, because the examples are technical. To security practitioners, the use of a fixed, unchangeable encryption key and the blind acceptance of every software update offered on removable storage are rookie mistakes; but nonexperts have trouble appreciating this. Here is an example that anybody, expert or not, can appreciate:

The access panel door on a Diebold AccuVote-TS voting machine — the door that protects the memory card that stores the votes, and is the main barrier to the injection of a virus — can be opened with a standard key that is widely available on the Internet.

Yes, they will try to impeach Bush and Cheney -- payback for Clinton. If Pelosi is wearing a red dress when Congress covenes next January, look out! Of course all good Dems love raising taxes so look for:

1) Higher income tax rates

2) A "one-time" 15% tax on IRAs, pension funds and 401Ks

3) Phase-out of the mortgage tax deduction

4) Higher excise and fuel taxes

5) A new 7% payroll tax to fund health care rationing -- er, I mean National Health Security.

Naturally they will claim that these taxes target the "rich". What they refuse to understand is that the so-called rich pay 90% of all federal income taxes even though they represent less than 5% of the population. Many of them can live wherever they please in this world and if the Dems piss them off enough, they will move out of the U.S. This will cause a revenue shortfall leading to even more tax increases on the fools who remain!

Go ahead and vote them in.

Anonymous said...

i would like to give my unbiased opinion as an independent voter;

1.) increase taxes - we "may" need one. again, emphasis on the word "may" since that might be one of the way to reduce budget deficit.

2.) i truly believe that if one thinks that the republican party needs to be taught some lessons in the aftermath of the recent scandals after scandals, they have to vote out their respective representatives. i know that one will argue - but i like my congressman/woman. well the onlt way to really reform the party is to make an example that will put pressure to the party leadership in the future and ensure discipline. it is like when we resoundingly call for businesses to choke the flow of illegal immigration by not hiring illegal immigrants.

make an example of them.

This was actually proposed by both Nancy Pelosi and Charlie Rangle (sorry about the spelling). I believe it is a definate part of their current platform.

What difference does it make who is in power? Dems will raise taxes for sure, most likely turn tail in Iraq....but really what choice is there in that hell hole??

Bush should be impeached, but won't be. Besides if that damn Dems were so fired up about it now, why didn't they do something about it when it mattered.....before the invasion. It's as much their fault as Bush.

No one had the nuts to stand up to this idiot that we have running the country.

Both parties are horrible and we are screwed no matter what.

Have a good day.

Tony

Anonymous said...

It's easy to say that both parties are the same but if you think about it, that really isn't true. Bush screwed up in Iraq, yes, but he also used the Republican Congress to cut taxes across the board. The government now has record revenues coming in, exactly opposite of what the Democrats claimed would happen.

As big a blunder as Iraq is, watch as Pelosi and Rangle screw up even more when they send the economy into a nose dive by raising taxes. Does anybody here remember what the Democrats did to investment RE back in '86? That's right they sent it into a depression that lasted nine years. RE didn't recover until '95 when the Republicans made RE capital gains tax free up to $500K.

So say all you want about there not being any choice. That's bullsh*t, just look back twenty years and you will see why Democrats are bad for the economy.

Wrong! The understand that fully. What you fail to understand is that same 5% of the population also earns 90+% of the income and has 95% of the wealth, which they earn through the sweat and labor of the other 95% of the population, so naturally they will pay more taxes. And people are getting sick and tired of seeing their standard of living drop just so that Bill Gates can get another billion.

Many of them can live wherever they please in this world and if the Dems piss them off enough, they will move out of the U.S.

Good! Don't let the door hit them in the ass on the way out!

This will cause a revenue shortfall leading to even more tax increases on the fools who remain!

No it won't, once we get a president with the balls to tell rich people and corporations that if you manufacture outside the USA, you cannot sell your made-in-china product here unless you pay tariffs.

Why don't you do yourself a favor and read about what is going on in the country with peoples' standard of living instead of reciting rhetoric from the Rush Limbaugh trunk!

I can't wait until impeachment proceedings begin. If this administration isn't held accountable, then we will all be screwed. Their crimes are now undeniable.

This should send a shiver down our collective spine. Since it would be difficult to cheat across the board in this election, what other crime might this cabal have in store in the next three weeks??!! Do not put this past them.

I'm sure readers will post,"What does this have to do with housing?" This is the problem-these crimes are all connected. The end result is the collapse of a nation based on a greater plan for humanity.

The Rethugs will probably lose the House but retain the Senate by a slim margin. Dubya won't be impeached. His perjury was over yellowcake in Niger and WMD evidence in Iraq, not something (like a blowjob) upon which the fox news morons can fixate.

The big question now is how they manage to blame democrats for
1. The housing bubble implosion that will wipe out the nestegg of many many Americans.
2. The recession that will follow.
3. The nuclear proliferation in Iran and N. Korea (which the Clinton folks had halted at 1994 levels until Bu$hco canceled those deals and adopted an unworkable negotiation strategy in 2001).
4. The Abramoff/DeLay/Scanlin/Ney level of K Street sliminess and the real physical danger that confronts our nation reaching unprecedented levels.
5. The Bu$hco era increase in our dependence on imported oil.

Oh yeah, nobody in the history of government has been more incompetent than Condi Rice, the "national security advisor" who missed that bit about our nation being attacked and "secretary of state" who presided over the endless diplomatic fiascos that have left us in grave danger, but I predict she will leave Bu$hco shortly after the election and devote her full time to book deals, being portrayed as a victim on Oprah, and K Street lobbying. She will be one stinking rich poor black female victim.

Wall Street's political cash favors Democrats

11:20 ET, Fri 6 Oct 2006

By Tim McLaughlin

ST. LOUIS (Reuters) - Wall Street has shifted its allegiance in the 2006 election cycle by donating more to Democrats than Republicans who have been the investment banks' usual benefactors, U.S. Federal Election Commission data show.

Five leading firms Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Bear Stearns Companies Inc.,Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch & Co. and Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. have contributed $6.2 million so far to candidates before the November elections, with about 52 percent going to Democrats.

"People give ideological money and they give money to people they think are going to win," said Maurice Carroll, director of Quinnipiac University's Polling Institute in Hamden, Connecticut. "It looks like it's going to be a good year for Democrats."

Despite being awash in record profits, Wall Street executives, investment bankers, brokers and traders may be getting weary of Republican control, Carroll said. President Bush's polling numbers are low and growing violence in Iraq also weighs heavy on Republican leadership, he said.

Results of going to the Condo Open House - I was late. So went to 3 others instead. Saw (ominous?) signs of unease, all units had "reduced" prices, with $15k "knocked off". Of course, this may be the Old Trick of doing a markup just before a Sale so you can make it look like the reduction is a bargain. The former real-estate pro I used to live with told me I should rent for a year & see if I really liked the location. As for the taxes: I see the 15% Retirement Fund tax the Dems wanted in 1994 is back in the news. As for voting: the punch cards were great; my town used them for years. Paper ballots are good. I don't like mechanical & electronic voting machines because they can be easily rigged without a trace, unlike paper ballots & cards which leave a physical record. Shame to see such a good system go just because of some idiots what can't read: if you can't figure out a ballot you have no business voting. (All the Americans who survived the Titanic were Republicans: they could follow the arrows to the lifeboats!) Judges make the laws now anyways, not legislatures & Presidents.

What is the fixation with income taxes---alone?

There is a 15% FICA tax which has no deductions and no deductible which is regressive as it stops at a certain income level.

There are sales taxes and use taxes (gasoline) which are obviously very regressive.

But moreover the rich pay so much of the income tax----because a tiny number of people are making squadrillions of dollars. All of the increase in GDP is going to a tiny few, despite everybody busting their balls.

If the rich paid a lower fraction of income tax that would be fine by me, if it were because the rewards of the GDP come to the many and not just the few.

So while you chear for whatever it is gets through your skull, keep this in mind....Kissinger said in 77 - 80% of the world population has got to go...

If you think any government gives a rip about you - think again - your are a tool and expendable.

Either make that sheriff President of the US ( the one in Az who makes all his prisoners wear pink underwear and just adds tents when he runs out of jail space -- and does it all within budget}

OR

Make Michael Moore president and put Cindy Sheehan in charge of the Defense Department. After about a year of their "generosity and benevolence" everything would be so FUBAR they'd way overreact against the "ungrateful bastards" and adopt strict conservative values and probably rule with an iron fist.

To all the comatose, brain dead vegetables out there. How can you still think there is a difference between the neo-cohens and the demojews? They are both (and have been now for a long, long time) owned and con-trolled by the same group of special people. Richard sited a few in the article he posted above (hint: they are jews). It makes no difference who wins, the "winner" already has a set of objectives laid out for him by the people who funded his election campain. It is a given that whoever is in office will be knocking off another one of israels enemys during their tenure. (Are any of you patriotards supporting going to war with Iran yet?) Will we have to have another "terrorist" attack to get the people behind the new jew war? Maybe, maybe not. I tend to think think that the bulk of the American public may just be stupid enough to believe any jew lie told to them by the jewsmedia. They just need to listen to the foxjews channel, or the communist news network to hear about how evil and dangerous this new enemy is. They will run around parroting this new jew lie to anyone who will listen, and before long, they will have convinced several people who are even stupider than they, that this is a good idea. Those people in return will do the same, and before long we have a frothing, frenzy of rabid patriotards ready to put israels interests ahead of Americas. Folks, please put down the pipe, get off the mind numbing prescriptions, and realize that fighting wars for israel, creates tens of thousands of people, that would love nothing more than to mass-murder all of your children.

Dems could win both, but I doubt it. They won't get enough seats fro any impeachment (sorry to ruin the wet-dreams).

When Clinton left, he and the Dems claimed credit for (Greenspan's) 8 years of economic bliss and denied responsibility for (Greenspan's) recession, calling it Bush's recession even though it clearly began at the end of Clinton's 2nd term.

When Bush leaves office, the Republicans will do the same, claim credit for the great economy and record high Dow, and blaming the bad stuff (next recession) on the Dems. All the while Greenspan will get a free pass. 'Tis politiks.
