Iran, the march to war and the housing bubble

Ah, nothing like a classic march to war. Those Bush's, they sure do that part well (Iraq 1, Iraq 2, Iran 1)... The choreography is sometimes just beautiful to watch. Ah, the smell of napalm in the morning. Ah, those wars and rumors of war...

Uh, folks, there'll be no surprises here. The President of Iran and his keeper, for the umpeenth time, is preparing for the magical reappearance of the Hidden Imam, where " Imam Mahdi will return at the head of the forces of righteousness and do battle with the forces of evil in one, final, apocalyptic battle." The President of Iran and his cabinet have signed a contract to work toward this day. There'll be no surprises. Iran wants it. Bush wants it. It's on.

It'll be a long hot summer. Followed by some weird ass crazy sh*t this fall. And that's even worse news for the already sinking housing market, the already troubled dollar, the good old days of $3 gas, and the skittish stock markets.

The White House urged Iran on Thursday to take several days to carefully consider a U.S. offer of talks on its nuclear program, despite Tehran's rejection of a U.S. condition it stop enriching uranium first.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said in reaction to the U.S. offer on Wednesday that Tehran was open to talks on "mutual concerns,' but rejected Washington's pre-condition that it stop enriching uranium, the fuel for nuclear reactors and a vital component in atomic bombs.

"Iran rejects U.S. talks offer"

just go to cnn.com

The Iranian mop-top sure wants to provoke, but I don't think Bush wants war on 3 fronts. It's too bad b/c most Iranians I know are really cool & the chichks can be downright hot. Best thing may be some targeted assassinations (sp?). Then again I'll bet we're damn close to having good missile interception solutions.

that was quick - and predictable

housing anyone?

Housing is related to this. There is a link on the general discussion comment section that discusses how the Venez gov't has desires to get away from the declining dollar.

The interest will have to keep going up on tresuary debt or these foriegners will stop buying these shakey dollars. I believe that is why the fed is raising rates, not so much inflation. They have not slowed inflation - real inflation - with the last 16 rate raises.

But they have kept dollar debt sales afloat.

if you don't think iran, iraq, oil prices, bonds, the trade imbalance, immigration and gop fiscal mismanagmenet relate to the housing bubble, then you don't understand the housing bubble (and crash)

Speaking of targeted assassinations - Am I the only person out here surprised that no one has tried to take out George W. yet??? Let's see: housing bubble, war in Iraq, $3+/gal gas,immigration,...hmm,where'd all the freeway snipers go?

I think you can say "in theory, I wonder why nobody has tried to take george w out". I know though you can't directly threaten the president - that gets knocks on the door. and don't forget they have all the calls and control the internet - there is no hiding

so, type carefully!

In a recent newsletter (http://tinyurl.com/ppvm7), John Mauldin shared some of George Friedman's (author of America's Secret War and founder of Stratfor forecasting) thoughts on Iran and the nuclear standoff. He thinks Iran is faking it. He's more worried about Nigeria. I thought it made sense:

"As an aside, I had lunch with George last week. At the end of the meal, I asked him about Iran. While Iran is an issue, he thinks that it will get resolved. As he points out, if you really want to build a nuclear bomb, you do it quietly and then announce it when you have it, like Pakistan or India or North Korea. If you want to use it as a negotiating tool, you shout it to the world. The Persians have been skilled traders for 4,000 years, and they are working the West again. Where George thought we should really have some concern is Nigeria. I agree. A civil war there brings world oil supplies tumbling, and prices soaring. It is looking increasingly worse."
