There’s been a lot of talk about that, pro and con, on a blog called HousingPANIC this week.

i still can't wait to see how obama will manage to lower the taxes for 95% of americans when only 62% pay taxes to begin with.

Have you heard him recently talking about how he won't raise taxes on those making 200k or less? That is down from 250k. expect it to keep going down.

It's a good thing that he stays calm under pressure.

funniest post in a while.

I think obama has had an EASY button for his entire campaign!

I'm sure he will do just fine.

It's not like the president has to solve all of our problems for us.

We don't need some great leader to take us to the promised land.

We just need someone with top notch management skills to leverage the efforts of a few million Americans to do what's best for the other 300 million.

about right. except it is 5% of the population he wants to "leverage". you know, the wealthiest 5%. or 10%, or 15%, whatever it takes, it is all good, you know, patriotic.

Saddest thing is that of the two candidates, he is the extremist, and a totally divisive (they cling to guns and religion, hates American Flag lapel pins, etc etc).

He cannot LEAD this country out of the doldrums because he has no passion, no principles. He's the anti-Bush but that's it.

Obama may drive this country into civil war. If not civil war, he will extend the misery by a decade by turning half the country against him and any future.

America is over for a long time if this guy wins.

After Schiff's latest entry what is your take on credit card companies? Are they the next ticking time bomb? Do you think Americans are going to see their credit card debt erased?

Well, that's because the people that made 250k last week now make 200k. It makes perfect sense if you're not still pissing into the wind.

Obama is charismatic, eloquent, well-educated politician. If he lives up to his promises, his proposed economic policies will only continue to debase our currency, augment socialist policies, and impede our economic recovery. The blame for this economic disaster can be placed on many, as this blog has done an excellent job reporting for some time now. Obama will inherit this mess, but if he can't significantly improve things as his first term ends, he will fairly or unfairly pay for it at the ballot box. This race would have been much tighter if not for this historic economic smackdown of the hubris of our nation. That being said, GWB has proven to be the most incompetent US President in modern history. When thousands of bloggers have better insight, solutions, and honesty than our leading politicians and financiers, what does that tell you? Still, there may be a silver lining in this dark cloud looming over America, and we shouldn't wish that Obama fails in all his endeavors. Obama has some good qualities that may help us recover from a lowpoint in our history.

Where does anyone get the dumb idea that 62% of working people don't pay taxes?

Everyone who earns wages pays payroll taxes. A few people with low income and a lot of dependents may get a full refund, but it's nowhere near 62%.

I pay $15K a year in taxes. Under Obama's plan, I'll pay $1300 less and get a $3000 credit per new employee. That's money I can invest back into my business. I plan on creating 3 new jobs next year.

I do a lot of international business and I'm terrified at the Prospect of a President McCain. I think if McCain is elected, my business will drop off significantly because no foreign countries will want to have anything to do with America and our destructive, imperialistic ways.

When the top 5% can prove that they made all their money and got all their power all by themselves, which they use to benefit and enrich themselves even more, and that they do not have special preference in the halls of our government or even hold public offices while still benefiting from their private endeavours which the governement they now control ensures that they will continue to profit from - all the while denying those on the bottom their right of representation by fraud, intimidation, media brainwashing and outright violent acts, then we can talk about NOT taxing the hell out of the top 5 %.

Nobody, but nobody has ever made a million on his/her own Ok? you had to have someone, anyone helping you do it.

You are not an island, you are not an all powerful being just because you have attained a certain level in this rigged system. You are not to be adored, nor worshipped as the all-seeing-saviour or Treasury Secretary or POTUS or Emperor. You are a fraud and a criminal when you take profits over people and then blame the people for not obeying the very rules you chose to ignor or recast in your favor.

When the system is rigged in your favor and you seem to think your success was all "your hard work" alone then you seriously have some moral and ethical deficits.

Everyone else - i.e. those whose backs you stomp on or dance on or stand on, they are the ones you will find huddled in the darkest, dampest, dirtiest and most inhospitibal corners of the world while you feast on your cornucopia of wealth all the while wagging your finger telling those on the bottom how you will fight for them and bring change or hope or your maveriky maverikness, or audatiousness or strict constitutionalistiness whatever the current talking points are.

We the people, hereby arrest you and charge you with high crimes against us. Your punishment shall be just and executed according to the full power of the laws granted by the most holiest of documents - the Constitution of the United States of America.

You have been served!

Disrespectfully,

The People.

Yeah, it's a bummer imagining how awesome things could have been once we got rid of Bush, who should have been tossed out for gross incompetence...after his first term!

So instead of zooming ahead to a Utopian future (that we might already have attained, save for the Cold War, Bush, and conservatism), we'll merely feel lucky if the severe recession is a bit shorter. We've been rooked.

Obama cannot grasp the entire problem - because apparently NO ONE can. But from what I see, he is intelligent, and capable of profound thinking, and able to adapt. He has the emotional intelligence to rally Capitol Hill and the people. I absolutely trust him to make the best of a horrible situation.

I don't see the problem with taxing the very wealthy. Some survey said people who make $80k a year are 'very happy'. I mean, how much money does someone really need? Aren't they always having to donate a 'wing' to some college or build a library or donate to charity to keep from paying taxes anyway?
And for the majority of us who struggle every day to make ends meet, who aren't stupid or lazy, just didn't have the benefits of the very wealthy or didn't get that 'great idea'...what's wrong with giving us some relief?
And on Drudge it says 'Joe the plumber inruiated over Obama's tax plan', that if he makes $250k, he will be taxed..WTF? Isn't he being taxed to death as it is?
What the hell am I missing here?

Anonymous said...

>Where does anyone get the dumb idea that 62% of working people don't pay taxes?

It's 40%, and they do pay payroll taxes but get it back at the end of the year thru write offs and the earned income tax credit.

Which I've got no problem with. The poor shouldn't pay taxes. They're struggling enough. But to sweeten it from there is too much in my opinion.

And before the left wing zealots get freaky, THEY'RE POOR BECAUSE THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM FAILED THEM, and nothing except determination and discipline will ever change that. Not money from the sky.

I'm sorry, I don't feel like it's a crime to tax people like them.

I think that dress cost $6000.
And aren't the majority of the wealthy responsible for most of the corruption? They can buy off anyone they like.
I know I'm generalizing big time. And possibly have great distain for the wealthy based on their seemingless mindless excesses, which is probably as base an emotion as those who hate Obama becaues he is black.
I'm just tired and scared.

Look at IRS data. 50% of the public pays 3% of income tax. The top 10% pays 70% of income tax. Yet idiots out there think the "rich" don't pay a fair share. And even bigger idiots out there think 95% of people can get a tax cut when 50% pays no tax to begin with. And don't bring payroll taxes into it. SS tax is a pension tax. You get it back when you retire (at least in theory anyway).

I am right on the $250K bubble. If THE ONE decides to tax me more for daring to be successfull , I'll just work less. No way in hell I'm working over $250K when THE ONE will take 50% of every extra dollar I earn. Fuck that. Or if I do work more, I'll make sure it it is paid under the table and not taxed at all.

The welcoming cellebrations will be grand as President Obama takes his place in the District of Corruption. Democrats will once again control 3/4 of the levers of power (the Press is on their side) and they will waste little time in setting an agenda. Pelosi and Reid will pay lip service to the kid sitting over on Pennsylvannia Avenue and the real impetus for legilation will come from lobbyists. Companies like Exxon, Halliburton, Boeing, and groups like the NEA and AARP will still call the shots and the kid will sign the bills -- if he knows what's good for him.

Progressives will cheer this new era of "change" even though it looks surprisingly like the Bush administration's last two years.

In the heartland there will be stirrings of unrest. Well oiled guns and growing distrust/disgust may errupt into civil unrest as the federal government overreaches once too often...

Post Debate Comment:

Congratulations, President Obama.

John Herbert Hoover McCain and Sarah George Wallace Palin will be looking for book deals, centerfold spreads in girly magazines and paid speaking engagements this morning.

Those two and the GOP are finishd in Presidential politics in 2008.

McCain looked like he was going to have a stroke or wanted to perform hideous acts of physical violence on his opponent, YOU, no doubt relishing in the short-lived hubris of his stooge-like VP choice and her George Wallce-Like racist rants and hate speech.

The few unwashed, uneducated southern republicans (like the forever to be remembered idiot Joe the Plumber who works 12 hours a day and seven days a week according to the candidate - Joe the Plumber, the NEW Joe Six Pack... Poor Joe should be kept away from anything sharp and under observation for some time He has become the new National Joke, Old Joe the Plumber...)

During the last 12 or so minutes of debate 3, McCain's face was contorted and changing colors alternating from red to crimson and back again. For a moment, he looked alarmingly like one-foot-in-the-grave disgraced and soon to be indicted current Vice President Cheneyburton only with a stiff and mechanical back, like Frankensteins Monster.

McCain was truly terrifying to watch. Little children were scared, wept and left the room at the sight and sound of the senile old out-of-touch GOP hack.

One child was said to be unable to sleep after a hideous nightmare with McCain-Palin as the centerpiece demanding 80% taxes on her salary in her chosen field as a teacher of disabled children...

John Hoover was again lost and adrift for most of the evening.

Thankfully, he was tethered to a table so as to prevent his wandering around the stage like a deranged elderly bum in a soiled trenchcoat at a filthy bus depot in outer Detroit at midnight in a rainstorm...

Again, thank you for not embarrassing the old warmonger any more than required. He did quite nicely on his own, thank you.

McCain will need all his strength and alleged 'courage' to face the well-wishers on Nov. 5th. It will be a concession speech not to be missed. McCain may want to re-read MacArthurs "old soldiers never die' speech and lift a line here and there, just for Good Measure.

McCain "looked like a farmer with terminal cancer trying to borrow money no next years crops...
(R.I.P. HST - We MISS you Doctor)

Palin back to Wasilla to shoot more defenseless animals of all species no doubt and McCain looking for that Buick dealership sales managers slot there in Phoenix.

Barack, consider having Michelle get a head start on the White House china, furnishings, etc. so you can get right to work prosecuting George and Dick for high crimes and misdemeaneors.

Remember about the passports and asset seizures. I don't know what we will do with a ranch in Paraguay yet, (maybe a National raffle? or a new debtors prison for Wall Street criminals) but the other guys assets may prove to be a little more 'liquid'... We expect justice from the New Boss and you will need to follow through on this one, old sport.

Again, Congratulations to you and Sen. Biden and we look forward to a overwhelming landslide victory and a demo controlled congress for at least the next 8 years.

Be Careful as you know how those GOP bastards and Rove, et. al. play when they are behind and in an unwinnable position, like Right Now.

Those GOP racist retards in the crowd could be serious with their threats and unseemly behavior. Remember Big Jack, Bobby and Dr. King... It didn't NEED to be that way.

GOP: THE PARTY THAT WRECKED AMERICA
Bushco-Cheneyburton: WORST EVER

The casket is in the ground. Let's put the dirt on (better yet, fil with quick-set concrete, Joe the Plumber can get us a deal...and fill up the hole once and For All.

Selah.

Oh give it a rest! It's not like a Farrakhan coup d'etat!

Here's what it'll really be... a Biden Presidency. B.O. fulfills the oratory mouthpiece but behind the scene, there's always a crew of administrators. Think of Reagan, his first administration was completely governed by the troika of Baker, Meese, and Deaver. Yes, the aforementioned three were qualified to administrate but not Reagan. And it did work, regardless of what the Mondale Democrats would like to think. Likewise, B.O., having no administrative experience (and abilities, it seems) will essentially let his DC insider, Biden, do all the real work.

Obama may not be able to solve all of our problems overnight - he's only human, not God - but he is the only candidate with the intelligence and thoughtfulness to do the things that need to be done to pull us back from this precipice we find ourselves perched on. You can see John McCain's stubborness and outdated determination in the grim set of his mouth and the frown he always wears. This is no time for digging our heels into outmoded 'ideals' and 'American values'. Please, these so-called ideals and values have brought us to the brink of destruction. It's time for change and radical change at that. Sneer at the word radical if you wish, but that's exactly the kind of action we need now. The old days are over, tough, move on.

NOT CORRECT. The Earned Income Tax Credit gives a large number of workers - especially the ones who had more children than they could afford - a refund greater than 100%. That's right, not only do they get back their payroll contributions, but a little something extra from you and me.

That is disguised welfare. And there will be more of it to come.
