Well, like I've said before, I don't have a job, retired from work at 30, and live my dream live all because I didn't "buy" a house.

How?

Quite simply, really. I took the money I had in savings and used it to start a well-planned business, rather than dump it into a down payment for a house.

My thought process was that I could multiply the money over and over and attain financial freedom, then I would have to work and could buy whatever the hell I want, including a house.

Anyone who uses their life savings to "buy" a house in today's internet-based free-market world is a sucker and a fool.

Does your job suck?

- No I actually like what I do.

Do you think you'll keep it?

- I work for myself so yes.

Would you rather be doing something else?

- Sure in an ideal world, I'd be a pro golfer or a Playboy photographer. Realistically speaking I'm content.

Is your boss an idiot?
- I am my own boss. No comment.

Are you underpaid for what you do?
- Actually I think I am overpaid, but don't tell anyone.

Do you work too much?
- I work 8-9 months a year averaging 50 hours a week during those months. I wouldn't consider that too much.

Have you thought of striking out on your own?
- Obviously I have.

Do you define yourself by what you do?
- No, but others always seem to.

Do you screw people for a living (like realtors)?
- No.

Can your job be outsourced to China?
- Sure.

Are you proud of what you do?
- Not really. But I don't care either. A job is a way to earn money, not a way to prop up my self esteem.

Does your job suck?
-- No. It can be stressful, but it doesn't suck. (Software Engineer, working from home)

Do you think you'll keep it?
-- Yes, for now. Though I still dream of going back to Korea to work. I miss my wife's family.

Would you rather be doing something else?
-- Maybe something more service oriented, like teaching English or computer skills to North Korean refugees.

Is your boss an idiot?
-- No. My BIG boss is very smart, and he knows it. I work with a lot of bright people.

Are you underpaid for what you do?
-- No. I get paid well for my area (St. Louis), and working from home is awesome. I get flexible enough hours that I can homeschool my kids.

Do you work too much?
-- No.

Have you thought of striking out on your own?
-- No, I'm not really the business type.

Do you define yourself by what you do?
-- Kind of. Computers have been my passion since late junior high. I have a lot of other interests, though.

Do you screw people for a living (like realtors)?
-- No. Our biggest client is the US Military, and we give them a lot of functionality for what we charge.

Can your job be outsourced to China?
-- No. We all have clearances.

Are you proud of what you do?
-- Yes. It can be frustrating working in the defense sector, but it's kind of a continuation of my Air Force service. I still think America is worth defending.

Let's see, I work as an engineer. My job is pretty good considering pay, working hours, and my boss. And if your boss is a jerk, that can make your job and life outside work so much worse. You can't sleep at night out of fear and anger.

All in all though my job is pretty boring though. For the past couple of weeks I've spent most of it writing a report requiring excruciatingly boring detail.

I feel lucky though, better a boring job then one where you have to move construction material around all day, or get yelled at all day.

I live in a great country that allows abundance and opportunity.
A country that has vast amounts of natural resources.
And am grateful for my everyday opportunities.

I could have been born in miserable Europe a place that thrives on selfishness, greed and hate.

Several generations back my forefathers left Europe for a better life in America, risked soo much so that their children will never be considered ‘commoners’.

Europe is still today evil and rotten to the core.

So I consider myself a very lucky person.

1.Does your job suck?

Ans. All jobs suck, some worse than others. There are perks and advantages to almost any job, however, use them to YOUR fullest advantage!

2.Do you think you'll keep it?

Ans. Can't get rid of it. Retired twice, called back in a third time, their choice not mine, MY HOURS, NOT THEIRS!

3.Would you rather be doing something else?

Ans. I do something else when I'm not working. And I am not working when I decide I am not working, not the boss. (See ans to 2)

4.Is your boss an idiot?

Ans. One of the finest people I have ever known. Probably the only reason I go back when they need me.

5.Are you underpaid for what you do?

Ans. Of course, what do I look like, a GOVERNMENT "WORKER?"

6.Do you work too much?

Ans.I always give my all, but never work too much. Work smart, NOT HARD!

7.Have you thought of striking out on your own?

Ans. Tried it a few times, but I'm a lousy boss.

8.Do you define yourself by what you do?

Ans.As working for a particular company, NO! As being the best employee I can be and bring responsibility and professionalism to my workplace, YES!

9.Do you screw people for a living (like realtors)?

Ans.Never!

10.Can your job be outsourced to China?

Ans. NO!

11.Are you proud of what you do?

My job performance reflects me. When I look back at the end of the day and CAN'T say, "I did a great job," then its time to leave.

Q of Day:
Does your job suck?
- If you are working for somebody besides yourself, the answer is yes. But on the other hand, when watching the guy cleaning out ‘Honey Buckets,’ you realize that your job isn’t all that bad.

Do you think you'll keep it?
- Will milk this cow until the tits run dry, or until a better-paying opportunity comes along.

Would you rather be doing something else?
- Would rather be a small farmer, and what with the rising price of produce these days, this may become a viable venue in the coming years. Got ~5 acres to grow stuff on, and a bit of plant-knowledge under my belt already.

Is your boss an idiot?
- Definitely not. Engineer.

Are you underpaid for what you do?
- Abstract question. But given the drop in the value of money – yes.

Do you work too much?
- No. After giving 110% only to be laid off seven years ago, I have a much less dedicated attitude toward my employer.

Have you thought of striking out on your own?
- Yes, as mentioned above (farmer).

Do you define yourself by what you do?
- Engineer 40 hours/week, Frmer at heart.

Do you screw people for a living (like realtors)?
- Medical equipment for babies. Helping to save the future, quite literally!

Can your job be outsourced to China?
- Can’t everybody’s?

Are you proud of what you do?
- Beats building weapon components, which I have done in the past. Working in Medical is contributing toward the greater good.

I was pissed too when I found out that Bush was blocking the 9/11 attack investigations!

But man o man I laughed my ass off when I found out that it was Bush and his military and oil buddies that were (are) the real terrorists behind the 9/11 attacks, bombing raids and war aggressions, and it was all one big lie and con-job to scam america (and the world)into an ALL OUT INVASION/WAR of two middle-east countries that killed, hurt and injured millions of people and was a massive financial disaster.

MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of people from around the world KNOW the tragic truth about 9/11, PNAC, bush and cheney, but the question is when will somebody do something about it!?? W-H-E-N????????

Can your job be outsourced to China? Was outsourced to India in 2001. That's when I became self-employed.

Does your job suck?

Relatively speaking, no it doesn't. I can't complain, there are many worse jobs out there.

Do you think you'll keep it?

No. I am currently in line for a promotion and/or transfer.

Would you rather be doing something else?

Yes. See previous question.

Is your boss an idiot?

New boss. So I don't know yet. I don't think so, seems like an ok guy. Only downside is that we were both up for the position - he got it, I didn't. But it could be a blessing in disguise - see above.

Are you underpaid for what you do?

Yes. But pension and benefits make up for it.

Do you work too much?

I don't think so. I put in some extra hours, but I maintain control over my schedule and seldom work over 45 hours a week.

Have you thought of striking out on your own?

Yes, but it's high-risk, low-reward at this point. A better move for me would be to branch out into a different area of the organization.

Do you define yourself by what you do?

No. I define myself by what I can get other people to do.

Do you screw people for a living (like realtors)?

This is a loaded question. Since I'm a government worker, technically I screw people over because taxes pay my salary. But I like to think that I provide good value for the money.

Can your job be outsourced to China?

Nope.

Are you proud of what you do?

On most days. Like probably around 85% of the time.

Anonymous said...

Does your job suck?
Nope, most people would love it! I'm just bored 'cuz I already know everything.

Do you think you'll keep it?
No choice - they own me until 2010

Would you rather be doing something
else?
Well yes, sex - duh, but before and after work there's time for that now that school is done. :)

Is your boss an idiot?
No, but my VP definitely is.

Are you underpaid for what you do?
For what I do? No. In general? Yeah, but that's a result of becoming overqualified on their dime so it's an odd situation.

Do you work too much?
Hahahahahahaha...only in 2002 & 2003. If you include total workload from school & work then oh yeah, but that's my own stupidity.

Have you thought of striking out on your own?
Not really - why take the risk when I can get paid 7 figures in a couple years with 0 risk to myself?

Do you define yourself by what you do?
Nope - I don't define myself, I let other people adopt whatever opinion of me I decide is in my best interests. ;)

Do you screw people for a living (like realtors)?
No - I don't try to screw people (that way at least), I help/protect them at the expense of the company.

Can your job be outsourced to China?
Not legally/realistically. :) Doesn't mean it won't be at some point, but that's ok - New Zealand is dying for me to immigrate.

Are you proud of what you do?
At work? I'm proud of how damn good I am - of what I do? Eh, it's not very stressful and pays the bills. ;)

People who strive for better-than-expectations at their jobs are morons.

I like what I do (software development).

But, I do a minimal job, just to get by. All extra time I use for biking, going to the gym, and otherwise enhancing my life experience.

Even with my six figure salary, it's just not worth it. People running companies and the system are greedy bastards who like to think they are in control, but generally leave us in ruin.

So get your life while you can, don't wait for happily ever after - you will never see it.

This is particularly true for those who 'give themselves to the company' and 'strive for results'. These people are especially bitter and non-stop living in fear of losing pat-on-the-back while squandering their God-given right to live.

Try not to be one of them.

Life can be good no matter the job.

Making six figures and talking it up, eh, you're thinking?

Let me blow it for you. I took a mini-retirement some years ago and didn't work for 4 freaking years. I spent all my savings and did everything I ever wanted to do.

It's THE BEST THING EVER, if you can save enough and live under your means. If all you ever wanted to do is spend million dollars you are sh*t out of luck and besides, you need therapy.

However, if you love sunshine, going out to a park or a beach, walking, enjoying bookstores and friends over cup of coffee, then you can do it.

Working hard is for losers, no matter what you do.

God didn't give you the spark of life to lick the boots of your masters for a dollar more...

... which you will spend in a delusional haze of overworked brain on nonsense crap items (thus giving your ego a boost - life is good if you can buy another useless trinket).

think about it next time you work overtime for your company owner's bottom line....

Please let the job bubble burst.

I have been hurting for years, getting trashed by the job economy, can't find a job. Even the ones that pay slave wages are hard to find.

I have two college degrees and years of experience. Before Bush II was elected I had a career and job offers around the world. Now I am literally starving.

Americans are being reduced to slaves. The past bloody struggles for labor rights has been in vain. Corporations are having their way, and they have NO MERCY. No mercy, no empathy.

If the supply of illegal labor is stopped. If corporations are prevented from conducting labor arbitrage, the job bubble will burst.

May the job bubble burst. May the corporations and their crony government sleaze be forced to value American workers as human beings.

Enough is enough. Maybe a strike by American workers will burst the bubble. Maybe if everybody just stopped working for one day....

Does your job suck?
No.

Do you think you'll keep it?
For a while. I've looked.

Would you rather be doing something else?
Not too hard to imagine.

Is your boss an idiot?
No, but I should not be reporting to her. I occasionally get Dilberted.

Are you underpaid for what you do?
Not really - according to trade pubs, I'm near the (dangerous) top bracket. It's a professional salary, yet nothing to brag about.

Do you work too much?
In the conventional sense, no. But let's face it, humans are not meant to fritter life away in offices. The real answer is "don't we all?"

Have you thought of striking out on your own?
Yep. I've done the base planning. It's kind of glacial now, but can be ramped up if things go that way.
Done it before - work is still work, even if you are self-employed.

Do you define yourself by what you do? Oh, please.

Do you screw people for a living (like realtors)? NO. I can't imagine a scenario where I would stoop.

Can your job be outsourced to China?
Not exactly, but I'm in an industry at risk of "disintermediation", and that's OK by me. And at least part of my job could be outsourced. I'll land on my feet.

Are you proud of what you do?
Yes, it is a non-profit that helps make the world a better place.

I don't throw tantrums. And what's with Big Brother cameras all over those offices?

My employment situation is probably not common, or even believable, but here it is:

Contract with a local tech company, developing streaming software for digital cinema.

Contract with a company in New Deli, designing an educational video game.

Contract with an outfit in Florida, writing networking software for an online virtual world.

A year ago, I was making less than 1/2 what I am now, as an employee for the first company. Because I have no debt and a little savings, I was able to quit that job, get a higher rate for the same work, and take on the other jobs.

If I had a mortgage, there's no way I would have done it...too risky.

Debt is slavery. If people didn't enslave themselves, we wouldn't need unions, because we'd ALL be the union. We really COULD walk out and find another job if we were being mistreated. Labor market forces could actually work.

Instead, you have corporations filled with people just showing up to accept their daily ration of abuse so they can scrape together their mortgage/car/credit card payments. Hollow eyed slaves.

"Are you underpaid for what you do?"

Everyone is paid exactly what they deserve and what they are worth. If you want more money, then re-negotiate, improve your skill set, or get another job.

Does your job suck?

Only in that all jobs tend to suck after a while. It's probably boredom or ennui more than anything.

Do you think you'll keep it?

Yes.

Would you rather be doing something else?

If you mean, doing another job, then no, not really.
If you mean anything at all, then yes: surfing, skateboarding, kayaking, fishing, motorcycling the list goes on and on.

Is your boss an idiot?

Not the current one, no.

Are you underpaid for what you do?

Hardly. The opposite is true in my opinion.

Do you work too much?

Yes, I think so, in terms of hours spent on the job, I do work too much.

Have you thought of striking out on your own?

No. I have in the past and earned large amounts of money. However, nowadays, in the current economic climate, it is better to have a salaried position with full benefits.

Do you define yourself by what you do?

I doubt it, although I don't even truly understand the question.

Do you screw people for a living (like realtors)?

No.

Can your job be outsourced to China?

Perhaps. Many jobs at the place where I work are actually returning from places such as China and India. The workers there are not as good as the ones here. The reasons for this are many, varied and unevenly distributed. This may change with time and experience, but for now, many non-Western or non-First-World societies simply do not have a 21st century worker base. The overseas workers were "cheaper" in terms of salary or hourly wage, but the hidden costs of employing them and of doing business in their countries made it cost-effective to return at least the more difficult or highly technical work states-side.

Are you proud of what you do?

Yes, but not overly so.

America loves to outsource everything. No one wants to work anymore, they want to be the millioonaire or billionaire. It is really sad when I have to deal with Verizon I can't understand the person WHO WORKS FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY!! Engineers are loosing their jobs from outsourcing. That is why we need a vision and Barack Obama is it. We need new energy, new jobs (for more billionaires to turn to trillionaires) Seriously, we need regulation back in the hands of the government. Sorry, but I will take that chance then a scumbag CEO who will decide that my 8.50 job should pay all my bills....We need change. People are always scared of change but it will happen.

My job doesn't suck, in fact it is rather enjoyable

I plan on doing what I do for the rest of my life, and then having the kids take it over

I am my own boss and can sometimes be an idiot, but mostly not.

I live quite comfortably on the income I have, and have been able to build a sweet net worth so I am OK with the pay.

I do work a lot, but enjoy it emmensly so I would say I don't work too much.

I have struck out on my own. I own a bunch of cash flow rental property and 2 used car lots

I define myself mostly as a husband, a father, and a motocross racer, but of course a lot of who you are is what you do.

I can here the jokes now about the slumlord/ used car dealer, but we sell good cars with small markups, and provide housing to those who are income challenged that is clean and maintained well. I could provide a long list of previous car buyer referals, and long term tenants.

China can't take my job. People in this country will always need cheap apartments and cheap cars.

I am very proud of what I have done. I took caculated risks, with good market timing. I no longer have to work at a job. I just need to grow my businesses and add to my net worth. I have also hopefully created the building blocks of a family legacy to pass to the kids. Hopefully they will have a better quality of life due to our hard work.

I have great job for non-outsourcing non-profit. My job rocks - I'm underpaid for what I know, but overpaid for what I do.
I work from home (which is funny for someone who owns 2 cars).
I create technology for a living(RnD).
My boss listens to Frank Zappa(I think this means he's cool).
I don't screw people over for a living, but would like to get screwed (i'll be in vegas sept thank goodness -every1 gets screwed there).
My job will never be outsourced as long as my company exists - why i took this job after 15 years with 3 fortune 200 companies...

I will be renting out both my homes this year, as well as giving my dad my new car(his lease is running out) as I start to travel in the new year... Thank goodness for virtual offices and cool companies that allow it - they do exist!

LOS ANGELES -- Ed McMahon is being sued by another creditor. Westmoore Lending of Huntington Beach, Calif., sued McMahon for more than $275,000 it says the pitchman and former "Tonight Show" sidekick owes from a 2006 loan.

A growing number of creditors say McMahon and his wife Pamela owe them money. The other actions have targeted debts incurred for the couple's Beverly Hills home, prescription drugs, credit card debt and attorneys' fees for his daughter's divorce.

The lawsuit filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court does not specify what the McMahons borrowed the money for, but claims they defaulted on the loan in early 2007.

A spokesman for McMahon said Monday that he hadn't seen the lawsuit yet.

My old job was okay, except it was never a great fit for my interests and abilities.

I did work too much for too little. I have been self-employed and an employee. I probably still do, but adjusting to new duties takes time.
It's taken me a long time to accept how much bosses rely on good staff to look good. Attaining the rank of boss does not magically transform a lazy dolt into a competent leader, but into a lazy dolt with too much power and authority. I have good bosses now, and I worked with awesome people at my old job for several years.

I was honest and conscientious in that job, just as I am in my current line of work.I took pride in that job, and I was in demand as a result. I was nice, and I worked my ass off. It didn't define me, though.

I think your job defines you to some extent, since most of us spend at least 25% of our waking ours at one. I like using most of the skills required by the job I do now, so I do identify with it somewhat. That said, I am learning to have a life outside of work, if only for my own good.

I gave up a lot to be good at my old job. At the end of the day, I had no desire to maintain friendships or ties with relatives. I switched careeers when I decided that this was a one-way ticket to a painful, protracted and premature death.

Was it tempting to jump on the bandwagon with professors, retirees and registered nurses jumping into real estate between 2005 and 2007? Yes, a little bit, for about 15 seconds.

Three things dissuaded me. One, I hate b.s.-ing people. Two, when I look at a line of work, I ask myself not only about how my interests and abilities mesh with the job requirements, but about the people I'll be working with. I didn't see myself flourishing in the real estate community based on those considerations.
Third, and for some more important, the bandwagon phenomenon was my wakeup call that things were not just somewhat out of control, but seriously out of control. I remembered the tech boom, of the late 1990s, and I got that feeling of "Here we go again".
So, no I don't screw people over for a living, as far as I know.
Can my job be outsourced to China? Hypothetically, yes. Is it likely to be, not yet. I'm in education. That said, here are thoughts on that question.

I know that online tutoring services connect tutors in India with paying families in the U.S., and that online learning is increasingly popular in postsecondary education. So is the use of adjuncts over tenure-track faculty. So I'm wondering, just how safe are education jobs in this country?

On that note, how will the importation of immigrants to do other highly-skilled jobs play out? For that matter, how will the status of the dollar play into this?
And then there's the exit tax that just became law. This will target green-card workers who accumulate assets of over $600K, as well as anyone in the same boat who wishes to relinquish U.S. citizenship.

Will the exit tax dissuade many from coming to the U.S.? Will America have to start actually investing more heavily in developing "homegrown" human capital? Anyone with insight on this one please clue me in.

Did I answer your question Keith?

SADDLE BROOK, N.J. -- Authorities said a son held Bergen County sheriff's officers at gunpoint as they tried to evict his 88-year-old mother from her foreclosed home.

Slideshow: Celebrity Foreclosures

Officials said John Brennan threatened two officers with a .22-caliber handgun.

Officers talked to the 60-year-old, who surrendered after about five minutes when a SWAT team arrived Tuesday.

Beatrice Brennan had refinanced her two-bedroom, $250,000 home and had fallen behind on payments. The house was sold at a sheriff's auction in May.

Real estate agent Donovan Stewart told The Record of Bergen County he's "never had anything like this happen before."

HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. (AP) - Helena-West Helena Mayor James Valley says he ordered a round-the-clock curfew and heavy police patrol in a ten-block section of town because the neighborhood was "under siege with repeated gunfire, loitering, drug dealing and other general mayhem."

Valley ordered the emergency curfew Thursday, effective immediately. It was still in place today. He said it would remain in place as long as the problems persist or until the city council can come up with a long-term plan at its August 19th meeting.

Thursday night, 18 to 20 police officers carrying M-16 rifles, shotguns and night-vision scopes patrolled the "curfew zone." They arrested about eight people and confiscated drugs and loaded weapons.

Under Valley's order, officers do not tolerate loitering or "hanging out." Officers can stop and investigate all foot traffic, bicycle, horseback, mo-ped, motorcycle, riding mower, golf cart or other means of transportation.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Arkansas says the curfew is "blatantly unconstitutional" and has demanded that Valley lift the order immediately

Does your job suck?

Not too bad.

Do you think you'll keep it?

Yes. The company would have problems replacing me for several reasons.

Would you rather be doing something else?

I still haven't figured that out, and I'm nearly 40.

Is your boss an idiot?

No, but he is a micromanager.

Are you underpaid for what you do?

No, not for the area.

Do you work too much?

No, deliberately maintain 40 hours/week.

Have you thought of striking out on your own?

Yes.

Do you define yourself by what you do?

No.

Do you screw people for a living (like realtors)?

No. We provide a good service on a shoestring R&D budget.

Can your job be outsourced to China?

No. The job involves encryption, and the Chinese do not allow any private use of cryptographic algorithms stronger than single DES.

(Are you paying attention American companies? They read your e-mail even when you're on a VPN.)

Are you proud of what you do?

Yes.

Obviously, the hamsters in the video are using Microsoft software or Dell hardware.

BTW, very convincing that a white-collar office would just happen to have a sledge hammer laying around. Bravo.

What a bunch of liars.

I personally define myself by what I do...
I am shark, vulture, snake, slave, and clever little monkey.

In other words…

Second hand dealer, investor, liar, taxpayer / slave, human.

Take it all away and I am a has-been holding up a sign on an off ramp.

Sort of hard to outsource my job.
I have beat the system, I am not the job, I am the SUCK!

So happy to hear you all like your jobs.

I look forward to having them someday.
