HousingPANIC Stupid Question of the Day

Aren't you furious that you work hard to make money to send to the government so that they can go off fighting a stupid war and bailing out housing gamblers, instead of building mass transit, improving our education and health care standards, and making America a better place to live?

Bonus question: When is enough enough?

FYI Iraq is now demanding a timetable for American forces to withdraw

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080708/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq

Bush and McCain of course, are fighting it.

And now you know the rest of the story.

I'm not sure what was a bigger waste of my tax dollars - Iraq or the housing bailout

Anonymous said...

YES!! That is why I am leaving in September. No more taxes from me.

Anonymous said...

As far as I know, every single penny I've EVER paid in income taxes has been wasted.

Democrats in Congress just approved another $146 BILLION for the War in Iraq

The US spends twice as much monet per student as Finland and Japan, yet our students score much lower on math, science and reading tests. Money is not the issue.

Keith,

So long you as you believe that the government is there to take your money away "so that they can . . . building mass transit, improving our education and health care standards, and making America a better place to live," you are guaranteed to see them "go off fighting a stupid war and bailing out housing gamblers, instead."

Sad but true, because the munition makers and bankers are much more focused than the rest of us who do not count on feeding off the government's teets.

Keep in mind that the Fed is the real government and the job of the slaves of the Fed, the elected shills playing fiddle in the burning Washington are there to facilitate the transfer of all wealth from the people to the Jekyll Island Boyz.

With that in mind, you can see the government is doing its job with remarkable effectiveness.

But take russia conversation to the russia thread a few down OK... This thread is about our corrupt government wasting our tax dollars

At least the russians are getting something for their 13% flat tax. Hell they're not even pissing it away on a stupid war like they normally do.

Imagine the USA going with a 13% flat tax? Pull out military out of every country on earth, raise the retirement age to 70 or 75, and it's possible to do within a few years.

Dream big. Or wither away.

A bail-out will not work, and it's only the bankers and wallstreet cronies who will benefit mostly from any more (devaluating) cash thrown at the system - any benefit though, will be short-lived.
Look at those pathetic "stimulus checks" - most people have tapped-out on those, and now they're hitting their credit cards.

Our system as a whole needs to change, perhaps socializing certain aspects (i.e. healthcare coverage).

Another alternative is to put in place wage cuts across the board - especially among public service employees.

If this is not done, we're headed for a long spiral down into the gutter.

More and more people are now openly talking about how bad things are getting, and when fear sets in amoung the people, things will accelerate downward that much faster.

If they hadn't spent it on war and bailouts they would have wasted it some other way. They've spent trillions on welfare. They've spent hundreds of billions on the war on drugs. They spend hundreds of billions on education yet the kids come out of 12th grade unable to read.

This country has been toast for a long time. Long before anyone heard the name George Bush.

Yes, a real danger out there is that those BRIC countries have largely cast off the worst of their socialist past and have embraced some of the ideas from the neo-classical economists from the west . . . while here in the US we are still stuck in Keynsian lala land. It may well prove as decisive as when Detroit rejected the JIT (just in time) and six-sigma production methods coming out of America's best B-schools, and the proposed innovations getting embraced by Japanese carmakers back in the 70's. As they say, the rest is history.

Compared to the low flat tax policies in the emerging economies, our government's Keynsian money printing "stimulous" policies hopless obsolete, just like those detroit big irons in the late 70's and 80's.

Up next: hyperinflationary deflation! Prices for consumables can go sky high in dollar terms, yet all asset classes that derive their value from future income streams get killed in real terms. When hyperinflation takes hold, government tax collection gets killed by its own monetary debasement: if prices double every week, the real purchase value of 33% nominal vaue tax witholding at the end of the quarter becomes miniscule. Then the government would have to print even more money to keep itself going. Entually a loaf of bread can cost $500,000,000, yet a house or a share doesn't cost many loaves of bread (due to 1000000% interest discount forward). Nominal monetary inflation can be rampant, yet the economy can still be stuck in depression because the real purchasing power of that new money supply gets discounted in the market place even faster than they can print it up.

Futures market may well declare force-majore in hyperinflation . . . and those who desperately need supplies will hoard the real physical items instead of futures countract thereby creating a real supply shortage in the spot market.

That's the market's ultimate escape valve from enthrallment of fiat money system. That has come to pass in the history of every single major country in the world that indulged in fiat money. . . including the US (the "Continental")

Face it folks, America has become a socialist shit hole. You can spend all day blaming democrats and republicans and calling each other names. Fact it both sides are to blame as are the voters. Americans went from people who cherished freedom and were suspicious of government to lazy fucks who expect the government to wipe their ass.

Reality you are spot on. BRIC countries are hungry for freedom and financial success. They had decades of bullshit socialism and it go them nowhere. While they are ascending, America id going deeper and deeper down the path of socialism. It will be decades before this reverses.

Luckily I have a few options and can live pretty much anywhere in the world. I never really thought I would ever consider leaving the USA, but now it looks more and more likely. It does sadden me.

The Iraq war is too costly,
in lives lost and ruined,
and in borrowed treasure.
It might have been the wrong decision.
But those who call it "stupid" are ignorant.

The terms of the 1991 armistice suspended
combat while the terms of several mandatory
UNSC resolutions were addressed.
The nations of the Persian Gulf relied on
compliance with terms required to restore
"peace and security" when they signed the
armistice.

The issues were debated for weeks in
the House and Senate, in painful detail.
The Constitution allowed Congress to
authorize the President to use war as
an option in negotiations. (I can cite)

The resumed inspections had not achieved
essential compliance as of the last report
by Hans Blix to the UNSC, more than
twelve years after the Persian Gulf war
was suspended.

Minister DeVillepin undermined leverage
by stating at a news conference at the UN
in late 2002 that war was not acceptable
(and France had veto power).
Chirac compounded the sin by stating in
February 2003 that France would veto
any war resolution "no matter what".
The blood of many thousands is on the
hands of the French for destroying the
best chance to avoid resuming the war.

I do not say the choices and conduct
were right, but they were not "stupid".
GWB is a stupid and dangerous retard,
and I hate to associate with any of his
conduct; but let's use facts.

And if the terms of an armistice are to be disregarded, then how long will the idea of armistice last ?

That is why my husband and I left the US last year, after living in Boston for 7 years. We were both working and renting and saving, but we had never felt comfortable to have a kid there due to the housing bubble and the crappy education/medical services.

Now we have a baby here in Tokyo with a free medical services up to 14, decent public schools, plus, $100/month child support for every kids(you don't have to be poor).
Oh yeah, the city of Tokyo just sent me the 8 tickets to hire maids and babysitters.

We can walk to subways beautiful and safe parks, everything. We don't worry about gas price much.

The cost of living is about 30-40% lower than Boston.I am not working but we are saving a lot more.

When I hear American saying that everybody want to live in US, I just laugh.

My god Keith, I actually got chills thinking about the properity that would come over this Country if that was to happen. Hell, housing may actually start going up in value again. People would actually have money to buy a house. Wages would not need to go up, and could remain stagnant, because it is not what you make, it is what you keep. We may even improve our standing in the world, and become a respected nation again....

Wow....oops I just woke up, and there is Bush on TV, god the nightmare continues.

Think of it this way, the more stupid that Bush and McSame keep doing, the wider the margin the Obama win will be. We could not ask for a greater gift than Bush and McCain to continue embarrassing themselves in front of the electorate. It's kind of funny because Obama would really have to try to lose this election at this point. All he has to do is keep a low profile and not have any major screw ups and he will just glide right in, thanks to the dumbest administration in US History. Keep it up GOP, you are helping to elect the opponent.

Hey dumbass, first of all, most of us on here are independents, not Dems. Second, the reason I am behind Obama is simply that this country cannot afford another 4 years in Iraq. Period. We are the laughing stock of the world, we are in debt to China, and the longer we waste 1 billion every month in that place, the poorer we get.

Obama may not be the savior but at least he seems to have the good sense to actually want us out of that money draining vacuum called Iraq.

If they want to continue killing themselves after we leave - fine, but at least WE won't be the ones getting killed, AND we will not be paying for the privilege.

In a perfect world, it would be an INDEPENDENT on the ticket and the platform would be flat tax, no military except on our borders, and no conflicts unless they set foot on OUR SOIL. Oh, and start powering much of this country on Natural Gas, and solar - tell the arabs where to stick their oil. The wealth for our citizens would come automatically.

Poor Keith. Says he wants an activist government that makes life better by investing in its citizens then he spouts the misguided ignorance of the libertarian.

He must be young. Probably grew up in the last 30 years of the "conservative revolution". That period is marked by disinvestment, decay and the resistance to a contributory society.

Too bad he nor the other of you brainstems cares to research what amazing things governments were able to accomplish before the conservatives filled your parents' and your heads with the poison of selfishness, greed and fear.

Glad I lived through the good times. Can't say I'm not looking forward to seeing the brainstems and their vile offspring suffering under the weight of a culture in decline brought about by conservatism.

Honestly, I read stories about families suffering under the weight of the every-man-for-himself society created by republicans and their republican-light cousins in the democratic party and I LAUGH. I get a smug sense of satisfaction seeing the things I predicted back in the 80s come to pass.

Got college debt that you won't get paid off for decades? Salary frozen while the guys at the top make billions? Healthcare costing you a fortune? Roads and bridges in disrepair? Finding that the cost of living is geared towards the top 10%?

TOUGH SHIT. Go tell it to your parents and grandparents who voted republican. And if you vote republican you should starve for your ignorance.

Keith, Not to get all partisan, but the Democrats ran and were elected in 2006 on two promises.

1. To get out of Irag.

Truth- not only are there more troops in Iraq now than prior to 2006, we are spending more.

2. To lower oil prices.

Truth- Gas was $2.20 when the Democrats gained control of power.

God help us if BO somehow manages to slink his way into the presidency. Besides being thoroughly unqualified, he is nothing more than another Chicago based politician. The man has 135 days experience in the Senate.

There is much solid and credible
evidence that the Bush gang had
a policy of deception, exaggeration,
and omission in selling the war in Iraq,
a pattern that permeated the administration
since 2001 in most of its policies.

But their lies and hype don't change the
fundamentals and details of international
law regarding Kuwait, Iraq, the cease-fire
of 1991, and "last chance" UNSC Resolution
1441 of Nov 2002 (15-0, including Syria,
Russia, China, and France). Maybe the SC,
Saud, Blair, and others were just "stupid".

Maybe more inspections would find more,
or would not be obstructed. Maybe some
other means of deposing Saddam might
have worked (after many attempts, and
years of Clinton's policy of regime change).

Maybe Saddam had actually disposed of
the weapons programs or materials.
But after 12 years, there was no end to it,
and the French bear grave responsibility for
undermining the pressure to finally comply.

Someone tell this fool that Hussein already said in a speech last week that he's not pulling out of Iraq as fast as he promised, which is the same as Bush's policy. According to Hussein, he's "refining" his Iraq plan and won't commit to pulling out in the 18 months timetable that he promised to you fools. Uh-oh, in case you don't know, Refining = Flip-Flop.
