Anyone else find it ironic that the tree countries profiled that ALL were muslim and 2/3 have massive energy industries.

1. They charge $120/barrel and don't think there will be a consequence...

2. That other rich oil muslim countries never help out. Why is it always the infidels...

Can't wait. I sure hope some rich people die because of this.

Food shortages. I think Americans worry more about transportation problems related to fuels and crime associated with it.
We are not a rice oriented society, but our grains may force some curtailment of ordinary supply. It will be much worse for anyone in business that depends on this stuff. Oriental restaurants, Pizza Shops, etc. will definitely see a decline in business and anyone who have business where cars are essential to get there will also suffer.

Small Town Broker says,

Here is an opportunity for the USA to step up, perform an act of unselfish kindness and also boost much needed international esteem.

We need to set a good example for a change. Make some friends, not more enemies.

See what the USA did? Now what about all you's fat cats in Dubai, in Kuawit, the UAE etc...

On the other hand, it was inevitable that the population would hit critial mass. The earth, she can only carry so much...

Too bad we see the US stratigic grain stockpile has been depleated down to nothing. Google that Batman!

Can't happen here? Don't be too sure.

Here's another great article from Mike Whitney that gives his take on the current surge in commodity prices and it's direct link to Bernanke's loosey goosey monetary policy:

Memo to Bernanke: Enough with the Rate Cuts Already!!!

Thank you Al Gore and Nancy Pelosi. Thanks to your biofuel initiatives, food is being seized from the poor to be turned into fuel to alleviate a "global warming" myth that isn't even real.

Mark

Indonesia, Pakistan, and Afghanistan are not Arab countries and they do not have oil on the scale of the Persian Gulf States.

But then you're obviously an Islamophobic idiot as plenty of non-Muslim countries like Haiti and India are rioting over food shortages also.

No wonder the MSM works wonders on morons like you. I'm sure you bought at the peak also.

There is enough food in the world to meet consumption needs alone. What's going on is monetary flight. Money serves two functions in the market place:

(1) medium of exchange;
(2) store of value.

That's why historical natural money, such as gold and silver, emerged: because they were light to carry around and easy to store. Anyone who is not a penniless day laborer living day to day has some kind of savings; unless you give away all your resources at the end of every day, you have to hoard something, be it money, stocks, real estate or anything else of value. Basic staple food and fuel are among the cheapest stuff in the world (that's why they get burned and eaten, i.e. consumed); therefore food and fuel are usually bulky. It usually costs less to store money than storing food or fuel. However, when the fiat money is being drasticly debased, hoarding cash or parkig money in the bank become resource-losing endeavors. When the negative interest real interest (nominal interest rate minus inflation rate) surpasses the cost of storing food ("rent" for storage space and potential loss), people start to keep their savings in the form of food instead of staying in fiat money! Food start to serve monetary functions because the fiat money is failing! Obviously, a lot more food would be required if food needs to serve as money (store of value) in addition to being consumed as food.

'Inability of countries to provide food to their people, which is a basic social benefit...?'

Really...? So you mean to say that I've been working, buying my own food, and paying taxes this whole time and I didn't have to?

This will come full circle to the US as well. Commodities price rises are being felt in the third world first because they are the ones that can least afford the higher prices.

But this will come full circle to the US as planned by the CFR groups to begin and depopulate the planet. Even now some buying "clubs" have begun to ration rice and everything else will follow in those footsteps here at home in the US.
