You just know a bunch of would-be players watched this over and over and thought by committing mortgage fraud and flipping homes they could be Bud Fox

And now, penniless and with no more access to credit, they're going back to being bartenders, car salesmen and call center jockeys, and hoping the government never does get around to prosecuting mortgage fraud and tax evasion.

And they wait for the next bubble, so they can do it again...

my fave lines from the film:

Too much cheap money sloshing around the world. The worst mistake we ever made was letting Nixon get off the gold standard.

Stop going for the easy buck and start producing something with your life. Create, instead of living off the buying and selling of others.

Well someone has finally pointed to the right source. This character, I honestly believe has been the cause of a lot of misery over the last 25 or so years since the movie was shown.
Let us remember that Oliver Stone intended this character to be despised. Instead, people saw him as a hero and something to be imitated. The film made people feel good about avarice, pride, and the other deadly sins, and not to fear any penalty, that it does not matter in America how you make your money, just make it. By allowing us to forget about any moral basis to accumulating it and making it seem adventurous at the same time.
With timely quotes from "The Art of War" and senseless spending on material possessions (ugly, most of it). Trophy wives, teams of lawyers, investors were all made out to be disgusting individuals by the Director, but somehow, the American mind in the sense of Ayn Rand made them think it was a new Howard Roark and company, and therefore worthy of praise and imitation.
Well, we have carried out that Gordon Gekko mentality to a full extent now. Corruption is everywhere from Bankers on down to the Real Estate appraiser and agent. Thanks a lot!

Just today I read an article where an 'entrepreneur' lost his subprime mortgage business in 2006, but fear not, due to his former business contacts, his new 'foreclosure auction business' is doing swimmingly well. No shame, no pain.
It sort of reminds me of the NYSE traded company who sells 'Spyware', which helps crooks tap into your computer...they then expanded their products to sell 'Anti SpyWare' to the victims of their 'Spyware'.
Only in America.

... another great line about avarice, uttered by Bud's dad, also his real life dad Martin Sheen,

"It's a big pain in the ass if you ask me... Money's only something you need in case you don't die tomorrow."

And that has been the mentality of the Americano, the dishonest urge to commit something immoral, cheat, and lies. Add in a touch of the busy-noise, sticking their ass into someone else's business or some other nation's way of life, and you have won yourself a prize: "The Discovery of the Mental Illness of the Americano"...

The Americano nation and its pitiful occupants's fate has entered a dark age, an ominous age filled with peril and uncertainty. An age of unimaginable stench emanating from the fart of the Housing Bubble. Who do you have to blame but yourself when you bough a $700K house on a $40K annual salary as a low-life telemarketer, a StarBuck cashier, a convenient store sales associate ? Add in a fat-ass, lazy, couch potatoes, hoity-toity wify, a couple of redneck, foul breath, rotten-teeth kids and you now have a perfect storm for the crashing of not only the Americano economy but the Americano family value as well.

Thus, with all due respect, I will ask you these $69,000 Americano-going-down-the-toilet-dollar-currency questions:

IS THE AMERICANO roasted nicely yet like a grilled snapper turtle ?

WILL THE AMERICANO ever find a shred of WMD in Iraq, the little Islamic nation that the Americano president DUBYA SHRUB and his side-kick PENIS SHOOTER had decided to invade few years ago ?

WILL THE AMERICANO take on the role of the world leader: Free the Tibet Monk"ey" and Invade Red China ?

WHAT IS INSIDE the tummy of most Americano ? Greedy Worm and Sh*ts mostly, perhaps ?

WILL the famous Snapper Turtle outlive the obese, pigeon-brain, pompous, ass-head Americano Australopithecus ?

WHEN WILL THE AMERICANO "Gone With The Wind" ?

Hey Andrew Hac, stop criticizing my nation, America. We are the greatest nation in the world. No other nation even comes close. We have the highest per capita income, the world's largest economy, the wold's most powerful military and the world's most powerful democracy. We are number one in every category. You are just jealous of America.
