John McCain, proving his ignorance about the Fed, the housing bubble and crash, and economics in general, blames the Fed for not cutting rates SOONER

We've had an idiot as president for the past seven years.

Do we want another idiot?

The good news is that McCain won't even be competitive this November. Thank god. What a dolt.

McCain Says Bernanke Should Have Reduced Interest Rates Faster

Republican presidential candidate John McCain said Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke should have been quicker to cut interest rates to try to avert a recession.

``I personally would have liked to have seen those rate cuts earlier,'' McCain said today on ABC's ``This Week with George Stephanopoulos.'' ``That doesn't mean I want him fired, it doesn't mean I've lost confidence,'' McCain said.

McCain, the Republican front-runner for the party's nomination, said that if elected, he would consider Bernanke's reappointment when his term is up in 2010.

(Bonus - enjoy this gem from a recent GOP debate where Ron Paul asks McCain about something he has no idea about)

mccain is a instrument of the international bankers. always has been just like his father before him.
whether or not the FED lowers rates or raises them does not really matter at this point. the problem is not one of liquidity. the problem is one of solvency and no one knows who is solvent and who is not because so much of the junk debt is kept off balance sheet due to special accounting rules made up for these crooks.....the FED follows the markets, and not vice versa....

Frank R said...

And Hillary/Obama wouldn't cut rates sooner too?

They'd probably ban foreclosures while they're at it.

Keefe,

You wrote that Obama wants to raise taxes on investors, high income earners and corporations. Then you say he is the most pro-business candidate. Who are you to criticize someone's ignorance on finance and economics?

Never said Obama was the most pro-business candidate. That would have been Romney by far. And f*ck I hate it when someone tries to put words in my mouth.

That said, Obama in many ways will be anti-business. Raising taxes on entrepreneurs and small business owners by his no-cap on soc sec/medi idea is bad for business. Raising taxes on high-earners is bad for business. Obama is not without fault - he's simply the best of the two choices.

Obama didn't get my endorsement for being the savior of business. He got it because he stands head ans shoulders over more-of-the-same, 1000-year-war, angry old fart, fake and corrupt McCain.

Obama is pro-business in that he will change the national mood. He will help re-brand America to the world.

Watch the kudlow video where he praised Obama for understanding the mortgage mess (vs. Hillary's stupidity). And read this article in businessweek:

Is Obama Good for Business?

In the words of one consultant: "Business would have a seat at the table, but business wouldn't be able to buy all the chairs"

Meanwhile, why so much Obama-bashing and no McCain supporting? I seriously haven't heard one arguement why to vote FOR McCain. Just lots of fox-news-endorsed bluster why to vote AGAINST Barack Hussein Obama.

That's because there are no good reasons to vote for McCain. There are only reasons to vote against Obama. If I vote in November (and that remains to be seen), I will NOT be voting for McCain. I will be voting AGAINST Obama.

BTW - that picture of McCain looks like "Frog" from Dirty Scottsdale ... LOL

Haven't you heard? "Jumped the Shark" jumped the shark in 2005.

Try to keep up, OK?

Frank - you nailed it. GOP supporters have no reason to vote for McCain and the usual reasons to vote against Obama.

Tough election for the Republicans. Tough to get people to the polls to vote against someone. Usually easier to get 'em to vote for someone or something.

How, for the love of god, did McCain get the nod? Talk about the accidental candidate. He made what would have been an interesting election one of the most boring and predictable. It's Bill Clinton vs. Bob Dole all over again. Just worse.

And just like winning his Senate seat, Obama has no GOP competition. Dude is charmed.

Likely McCain will not be around by November, as he will self destruct or have a medical problem. . .Romney who has been making nice to McCain, and likely Vice President, will be the candidate. . .I would do a 70% on that one (at least McCaine not being around). . .Obama? Nice guy, inspires me to want to be better, but not great for business. . .but - agree he would be so much better for national image - therefore nation's business image. . .it is related people - "we hate USA, we hate McDonalds and Coke" = lower foreign sales. . .so kind of a mixed bag on Obama.

Slow-brain McCain is really the democrats best weapon. Keefer, you're right. McLame is nothing but an old grouchy clueless fart. I hope you all googled "Keating Five" if you didn't already know about McVain's past.

Sure, he was a POW. I admire the guy for fighting for our country and putting up with all the hardships of being a POW in Vietnam. BUT, he ain't worth a shit for a presidential candidate. Just another Bob Dole.

I came across this link about some veterans who are really ticked at him. Here's the link: http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjohnmccain.com/

At least McCain wants to charge an interest rate? Obama and Clinton want to hand out money to housing gamblers by forcing the banks to reduce interest rates after the fact, "forgive" mortgages for certain people, and force lending to people with no credit onto FNMA and other government agencies.

Sure, our brand will be one of bowing submission to those who want to kill us, want America to be weak, etc. Obama does not say much, but what little he did say was he would talk to terrorists if elected to "change their opinion of us". Even Mrs. Clinton said this was a naive, bad idea.

Frank R said...

I think what happened is republicans who just wanted the strongest candidate to defeat Hillary voted for McCain. They never counted on Obama getting the nod (in which case Romney would have probably been the most polished and articulate to beat Obama).

You're right, at this point who cares which one wins, if you really get down to it and look at the issues I think Hillary Clinton is the most conservative of the three. Obama is the most liberal, leaving McCain as the most appealing to moderates, but his age and nasty temper will screw him in the end.

McCain is such a tool. Thank God he has zero chance of winning.

But we still have to worry about the Bilderberger candidate (Hillary) making a "comeback" and beating Obama. If that happens we will have yet another Bilderberger in the White House. Exactly as planned....

Don't worry everyone. Keiths magic man, Obama is going to fix everything with more speeches about Hope and Audacity of Change, etc, etc....

There are no radical leftists running for government these days. You right wingers have gone completely insane.

25 years ago, Hillary Clinton would have been a N.Y. Republican.

Why have the children of Eisenhower all endorsed Democrats these days?

The essential failure leading to the mortgage implosion was an ideological abandonment of traditional regulation. Regulation that we learned, from hard experience, was necessary.
But somehow thanks to the modern GOP stormtroopers of shock capitalism, this has been torched.

Neither Obama or Clinton can do anything about the past now and all their words are BS.

But they would be better at technical effective government, after the catastrophes we've had. FEMA, NASA, Fed, OHFEO, OCC, DOD, DOD, DOD, DOD, Interior, EPA, DOJ, FBI, CIA, etc. All ruined by hard-right wing appointed partisans who want to sabotage government for ideological reasons instead of making it work effectively.

This can start to prevent some of the crap from happening again.

USA: ~10,000
Muslims: >1,000,000

That's more than two orders of magnitude in difference.

So who are the real terrorists?

McCain is probably right that interest rates should have been cut earlier, but in hindsight we all know more. Nouriel Roubini, ueber-bear for housing and the general economy, has called cuts inevitable, but that they want save the economy from recession either.

Why McCain? He is a political animal who had many ups and downs, he won't despair as president. Obama could end up as Carter II, full of goodwill but getting it right too late in his presidency. That doesn't mean that I would vote for McCain, because health care needs more reform than republicans are willing to do.

The real problem is not lack of regulation, but too much of it, especially in two areas that are relevent to the housing bubble:

(1)Regulation on fiat money: everyone is required by law to take the paper money. If home builders had the legal power to demand payment in gold and gold only, the gold lease interest rate would have gone sky high to forstall irresponsible lending because gold couldn't be printed like paper money. In a free-minting economy like envisioned by the authors of the constitution, builders who would take paper money instead of gold or silver would be quickly out of business because their own material suppliers and workers are not required by law to take funny paper money from them in return for the fruits of their labors. So honest homebuilders and honest lending would be the rule of the land . . . simply because they wouldn't be able to count on the government to raid the savers to bail them out.

(2) Regulations at the local level, especially in the major cities, constrict housing supply in their zoning codes. The result is vast amount of trash paper money chasing few houses in tightly zoned areas.

The idea that powerful regulators would have stopped the lending madness is laughable: at the peak of the bubble, the FED chairman Greenspan was praising "financial engineering," and both the administration and the democrats, even the "radical left" "civil rights" activists were encouraging minority ownership to enter the housing market to the be last bag holders. Heck, banks were threatened with lawsuits by the government and the activists for refusing to lend to subprime borrowers! Financial manias were perpetuated by "true believers"; those who believe the government are the cure instead of being the problem have a proven track record of being the most ardent sheeple "true believers."

Obama has the 'least bailout' bailout of the dems.

'Obama will create a fund to help people refinance their mortgages and provide comprehensive supports to innocent homeowners. The fund will also assist individuals who purchased homes that are simply too expensive for their income levels by helping to sell their homes. The fund will help offset costs of selling a home, including helping low-income borrowers get additional time and support to pay back any losses from the sale of their home and waiving certain federal, state and local income taxes that result from an individual selling their home to avoid foreclosure.'

HILARY wants to keep people in unaffordable homes (bank bailout, keeps prices high).

Obama wants to help them SELL THIER HOME (kick the losers to a rental).

siggghhh.....i guess i have to vote for the black guy.... I will take more affirmative action BS if the housing bubble pops fast and hard (whata trade off! wheres ron paul!?)

Here's the biggest joke from Obama's campaign platform document:

"The tax code is supposed to encourage home ownership with a mortgage interest deduction, but it goes only to people who itemize their tax deductions. Like so much in our tax code, this tilts the scales toward the well-off. "

Huh? Only the "well-off" have the ability to take 10 minutes to look at their mortgage documentation and add up how much interest they paid last year?

Under Obama it sounds like the government will even wipe your a** for you as long as you're not "well-off" (meaning anyone making over $50k/year ... those people are evil and will be punished under Dictator Obama).

Frank R said...

OH MY GOD - here's the biggest one of them all from Obama's platform:

"Obama will ensure that the IRS uses this information to give taxpayers the option of a pre-filled tax forms to verify, sign and return to the IRS or online. This will eliminate the need for Americans to hire expensive tax preparers and to gather information."

Yeah, they already do this to non-filers. It's called a substitute return. IRS pre-fills it for you with the purpose of maximizing your tax bill and minimizing or eliminating deductions.

Holy crap, this guy wants a totalitarian state where you can't even do your own taxes anymore. Big Brother will determine "your fair share" for you.

Wow, to defeat Obama in this election, all we have to do is get people to read his very own platform.

(PS: Yes, that grammatical error was in there. I cut and pasted as-is. His platform is full of them.)

Everyone is convinced that McCain will get crushed. I disagree. I think our country has been totally hijacked by the central bankers and military industrial complex special interest, to the point where they now control elections. McCain will win believe it or not. I don't want him to win, but I just think the common man having a say is a myth. If Obama wins, then maybe there is hope that the little guy still has a voice. To me the real tipoff was Romney's endorsement on the "we need a President who will continue the fight on terror." Read between the lines, they are not gonna stop the war and will likeley invade Iran now that they have driven down demand for the dollar by demanding payment for oil in other currencies. They will keep the military industrial complex going at all costs.

Frankly, I was going to vote McCain: more sober, more mature, highly-experienced vet, etc.., until I heard him answer a question from Ron Paul the other day. McCain, who looked wide-eyed and at loss of words--not even knowing the meaning of what Ron Paul was talking about-- started naming the people on whom he would rely to basically answer Ron Paul's question. He mentioned several of them, which sounded like: "OK people, just vote for me coz am Veteran McCain.. I know nothing, but once I am there, I'll give a hand to the jobless by giving good-paying jobs to my buddies who can help answer questions like: "where did all the taxpayer money go?"
Well! Personally, I'd rather vote for a constitutional amendment to keep Bush for a third term. He's kind of there but not there, you know what I mean? Like letting those neo-cons decide what to do and what not. As for McCain, he's not there at all and has nothing up there for him to do anything or let anyone do what he cannot do--he's not just an idiot, he's a stubborn idiot!

Ya gotta hand it to the power brokers of the GOP, they know how to contain collateral damage.

With the country heading into stormy economic waters, they have managed to restrain the GOP's most powerful 'loose cannon' by giving him 'front runner' status in the next election.

The 'maverick' has been fenced-in for the duration of the election cycle by appealing to his egotistic tendencies and utilization of the compliant media to spin his popular appeal.

This has stymied his potentially disruptive tirades about federal over-spending while Wall Street 'prepares' Congress for the biggest private sector bailout in modern history.

Power brokering at its finest...

Rethugs vote McCain because he is the only
one they CAN vote for. Think about it! The old
conservative core (small, non-intrusive government,
low taxes, prudent spending) has been replaced/polarized by the
fringe elements. Too quote an article I read recently:

".....But what are we Republicans to do? There is simply
no center anymore to hold the more centrifugal elements of the
Party close. Instead, the GOP has two disparate sides that don’t trust,
or very much like, each other: Busy Rich People and Busybody
Evangelicals. This makes it rather difficult to find a
candidate with broad appeal...... We are currently going
through the awkward, somewhat irrelevant, period of
jostling, when the two sides take turns to elevate a
candidate who will annoy or scare the other side of
the Grand Old Party. The Evangelicals made sure a
Mormon didn’t win in Iowa. Now, Wall Street
Republicans, too impressed with Mitt’s $4,000 suits
to worry about his Mormon background,
are going to move to block the Evangelicals’ choice...

All of this bodes very well for John McCain —
ironically, because he is the man nobody loves.

He is, however,
the man many GOPers will settle for, as he neither
represents Evangelicals or Wall Street, so choosing
him will not be giving in to the side of your own
party that annoys you. So we will most likely wind
up with everyone’s third or fourth choice. And that,
perhaps, explains why the No. 3 Democrat in Iowa —
Hillary Clinton, someone no one has blandly neutral
feelings about – finished with the equivalent of more
votes than the GOP’s No. 1 pick.

Mark my words: These are End Times indeed for the GOP!"

I expect the GOP to remain, after this mess is all over, but
in a broken state, much like the Democrats, giving any candidate
the impossible job of winning of winning all the factions.
