You Tube because it accurately reflects what every wife pressures her husband to do, especially when they can't afford it. We can do this means putting off things and eating Ramen. After six months the wife gets tired of the "cheap husband" and starts running up credit. The husband increases his work hours to pay for the new situation or takes a second job. (Or she does, and meets someone, or the husband meets another woman, etc.) The kids never see their father anymore and the wife starts brainwashing them that "daddy's never home", "he don't care about the family".
Soon arguments, fights break out over spending. Suddenly a new car is in the driveway, an HDTV in the living room. Credit soars, they take an equity loan on the house and start the ball rolling to bankruptcy. Then divorce and the home gets split between them , getting nothing because of the leverage and everything they sought turns to dust. All beccause "Susan researched this" Ha, Ha, Ha!

Keith,

I've been clicking on the Suzanne youtube clip and it appears to be deleted.

Has the Suzanne video gone? Has the NAR become so embarrassed that they pulled it?

I'm heart-broken. I always enjoyed watching it. It had three great stereo-types; the nagging wife, the beleagued husband, and the commission-hunting estate agent, dragging the unwary couple into a vortex of financial ruin.

Every time I see this smart a** american brat wife say "what!" and shake her head at her fat child-like husband I want to b**ch slap my LCD. My xmas wish this year is to be a Foreclosure Representative. My girlfriend was one 5 years back, she could say anything she wanted to the people losing their homes. I guess there are no rules in what you can say to homedebtors in that industry. I would turn into Dr. Stangelove, giggling, laughing, and saying to each homedebtor all the things I felt driving around in my Southern California town for the last 6 years.

The REALTOR advertisement was the worst ad in the history of advertising

It made people not want to buy the product (or get married!)

HATE A Realtor today, Go Ahead, Just Do It:

Preying on the misery of others that deserve it...

Seeing Families (including the aged, infirm and young) cold and hungry and displaced into the streets with 2 SUVs in the driveway, both out-of-gas and For Sale -Take Over Payments. All thier belongings piled into the gutter including plasma TV bot on credit at Xmas 2007.

If the government allows ANY KIND of BAILOUT whatsoever, I expect my mood will diminish further into a rather cruel one indeed.

I will leverage my cash (how about 1% on the equity dollar?)to keep these idiots down forever.

A 2 tier system will develop. The have nots will have earned and deserved their plight.

They CONTINUE to DIG THIER OWN GRAVE, let them reap the whirlwing of their actions.

NO MERCY. NO BAILOUTS.

Welcome to Hillary Country.

Oh, it's definitely the Century 21 ad. F'ing evil, especially since I lived through this scenario in 1999.

(Dumped both the house and the bee-otch a couple of years later, though. Lost out on the mad FL appreciation, but kept my cojones and sanity, unlike the poor sap in the ad.)

I just can't get enough of the wife's bitchy "duh?" headcock as she beats this Pillsburied Doughboy sumbitch into submission.

As one who teaches advertising at a major university, I have to say this is the most unethical national :30 spot since the dot-com era.

I like the Foreclosure Rep idea, too.

The Suzanne ad by a long shot

I LOVE the Suzznne video.... In my mind's eye, I picture Suzanne as being a very hot, blonde MILF, with an attitude, and possibly a whip.
Nowadays, I believe you can find her work in the 'erotic services' section of craigslist.
Check your local listings for more information.
I LOVE YOU SUZANNE!!!

anon #1 you gotta stop watching soap operas man. Life is not Deseprate Housewives.

Anonymous said...

I get chills watching it. UGGGGHHHH.

Unfortunately I deal with this shit all the time myself. It took about 6 months of intense lobbying but finally got my wife to agree to sell our house about a year ago.

In the meantime our old house has lost about $75K in value judging by comps in the neighborhood today. And not even a glimpse of a bottom anywhere in sight. I wouldn't be surprised if it loses another $75K in 2008.

Yet my wife still nags me constantly about when will we stop renting and buy again. I don't get it. She is a smart woman. She is pretty knowledgeable about finances. She doesn't care about buying jewelry or $500 purses or any of that useless shit.

Yet for some reason unknown to me, on this one issue it's like her brain is turned off. She goes on auto-pilot "MUST BUY HOUSE" "RENTING IS FOR LOSERS" mode.

As annoying as the commercial is, from a marketing point of view it is genius.

My wife and I have a good relationship. I'm extremely flexible. I would venture to say that she makes most of the choices, because to me most choices are just not very important. We moved across the country and I took a new job for her. No biggy. But when she wanted to buy a house I said no. She yelled, screamed, cried, pleaded, insisted. I showed her the numbers, made my case, and stood my ground. She threw things, called me a liar, drove off. I wouldn't budge. Later, when all the housing news started hitting the newspapers she turned to me and said "thank you for not giving in." I love her too much to let even her stop me from fulfilling my husbanding duty. In the video it is not the wife's fault. It is not Susan's fault. It is his fault.

Anonymous said...

Seriously how stupid do both look today?

As stupid as Bush/Cheney bumper stickers

Anonymous said...

My wife asked me why I didn't want to buy a house. I said "I do want a house. And I also want to send our children to college. And I want to take care of hers and my parents. And I want to pay for our own retirements." When this thing is through we'll buy two houses. One for us, and one next door for her mother.

An Open letter to ‘Old Media’.

Sometimes I wish I understood, but could not seem to comprehend why you do it, but then minutes later I did not give a damn any more. And that is why you will fail.

Why are you so set on who you want the presidential candidates to be? Is it that you see that the Status Quo is threatened? Is change such a bad thing? Maybe the reason doesn’t matter. In the end of each day, no matter if you are a democrat, republican, liberal, conservative, neo-con, corporate power representative , or what ever else … We are all still United States Citizens. We all care about America, right … Right? The sad truth is that we do not. Perhaps liberty is not a concern of the powerful, and If you do not care, then I can not care for you. And that is why you will fail.

For years you force fed what you deem to be important down the throats of Americans citizens. Minimized most of what the public should be concerned about while sensationalizing the mundane and trivial. Did you do it for the all powerful dollar? The same dollar that is now worth half of what it was worth a few years ago? Even as I ask, the reason does not matter, and that is why you will fail.

I must admit that you almost had me. At one time I felt that the United States reigned supreme, the greatest, the infallible, the just. Those were happy times … so I happily ignored reality while I sort-of-listened to your newscasters tell me how it really was. Oh yes, I remember … The ‘Sold’ war. The logic, your logic, to me it made sense. it was simple really, simple enough for the average channel surfer or newspaper reader to get: To defend, we must go on the offense. To protect ourself, we must attack them. And years later, after the reasons we went there had changed and changed again … And when there was no army left for us to fight … new reasons were given to us as to why are still there and why we had to stay. But, like so many others, I could flip through the channels, not feeling anything as the casualty toll rose and rose. And that is why you will fail.

If not for you, maybe I would not have ever given a damn. I do not remember exactly when, or how it happened, I can only remember the ‘why’: Giuliani Vs. Clinton, or maybe Rommy Vs. Obama or maybe it would be McCain VS. Edwards. Flick, flick, flick, same, same, same, ‘one of these guys WILL be your candidate, we say so.’ I change the channel again. I could not care less because I did not care at all. And that is why you will fail.

I must thank you for opening my eyes. You see, somewhere in the haze, something began to stand out. Every once in a while I would be trying to ignore you while waiting for the next rerun of my favorite show and you would continue to tell us who our president would be. Then you went out of your way to tell us that there was someone who has ‘No chance’ and you did not know why they were even trying. At first I dismissed it, after all, you were telling us who was ‘winning’, and you could be trusted, but the more I heard about the guy who absolutely had ‘No CHANCE!’ This man, ‘Ron Paul, would never … could never …’ the closer I began to listen. Somehow if you hear shouting for so long, it simply becomes background noise and the smallest whisper can be heard. In all of your screaming about who was winning, the only thing I picked up was the name that you said, could not. And that is why you will fail.

“Google Ron Paul!” A sign said. It was somewhere on a side street in MD, as I drove home one day. Because of you, I remembered that name. I wanted to see what it was about this person that made you so sure he could not be in the running. So I went home and looked up the name. I do not even have to tell you what happened then. Almost any American that does it for themselves already knows what I’m talking about. I will never forget that it was your bias against this man that made me remember him. And that is why you will fail.

Now as I close out this letter, I imagine that for every person who looked into this so called ‘No Chance’ candidate you think to your collective selves: ‘ “So What! You are in the minority, you still have no chance! No Chance! No Chance!” ‘ I would just like to point out that our numbers (even though they continue to grow substantially), do not matter. They truly do not. Have you realized why yet? No? It’s because the average person that listens to you is exactly like I was. You tell them who you think our next president will be and they will happily sit back and accept that you know what you are talking about. On their recliners or couches, fine with the status quo, they do not think they count and they will not make an effort to vote. After all, You told them the battle has already been decided. With the exception of the ones who look in to the only person who can not win, the rest will not give a damn at all … ever. Meanwhile this minority, this revolution, it does what it does, these amazing things that have never been done before, these are the people who are out there making a change, and then there is you, continuing to do the best thing for us by ignoring Ron Paul. And that is why you will fail.

"She's the typical psycho DemonCrat liberal wife"

Oh NO NO NO NO NO!! "liberal"? Have you EVER been to the state of Utah??? The women here have turned materialism into the highest public good with huge houses and huge SUVs. It's a chick thing, not a liberal or conservative thing(which really doesn't mean anything anyways).

I went to the library and read that Time article. The writer actually expressed some doubt that the mania could keep going, but almost NO ONE WAS LISTENING.

The Suzanne ad is far worse. It represents the ridicule of reason and the worst of manipulative marketing. Sad to know that the real results of feminism were merely to make manipulative marketing and crass greedy materialism into a "Family Value".

Which one's worse?

I would have to say the obese limp dick husband being pussy whipped by his c@nt bit#h whore wife and the equally c@nt bit#h realtwhore. I mean, how pathetic and low can one get in life?
Well, come to think of it, I guess it CAN get a whole lot worse.
They need to do a part 2 to that commerical. In it, the realtwhore and c@nt wife are out on the streets selling themselves and limp dick is in an alley way, sitting on an abandoned sofa, chugging a beer with drool coming out of his mouth, talking to himself how his life is screwed till the day he dies!

They are both pretty bad and reflect the non-stop barrage of propaganda that fed the monster housing bubble that's now blowing up.

The "Time" cover and article no doubt did the most damage due to the millions of people they reached but the video commercial positively sickens me. They really managed to find a couple of the lowest specimens of humanity to play the parts (or so they appear). The dorky, feeble minded slob who plays the husband in not only nuts for agreeing to buy the over priced McMansion but for ever marrying the grotesque witch of a wife. Actually I'd rather be stuck with the McMansion than the bitch.

Any "consumer" who was dumb enough to be influenced be either of these propaganda pieces deserves what they got

Honestly a tough call. The Suzanne add is hands down more disgusting, but the Time piece likely did more damage because of the perception of integrity in journalism and Time’s wide circulation (every doctor and dentist office is required to subscribe).

I'll go with Suzanne, because it so perfectly sums up the "Typical American" (tm) relationship. Time needs to sink a little lower to get my vote – perhaps running a follow-up showing our Beleaguered Hero in a trashy tryst with Suzanne while trying to dump his investment.

Coke Out.

I'll never use a C21 Realtor.

I'm single and likely to remain so. American females, due to liberalism and feminism, are the WORST females ever to walk the planet in its 5 billion year history...of any species. Too bad us good guys got totally hosed by it...

I can't wait until Feminism Rests in Peace...it's the intellectual and cultural source that allowed that housing ad to be created and aired.

OMG, I couldn't agree more. I'm dating a Central American girl, and let me tell you she can be a beeeeeeeeeeeeeeetch. However she always lets me make the decisions. No matter how whacked she can get she still is much more workable then the American woman. I refuse to date American woman brats. All the evil concepts of the entire world has melted into the USA, primarily into the woman, who are traditionally vulnerable to minipulation. Us American males are dealing with hybrid demon b*tches, scientifically crafted to destroy.

I hate to say it, but I would have to agree with you. I have seen it happen to a lot of couples in our circle of friends.

Women wants a bigger, nicer home in the best school district, which these days schools now have lotteries, and they shuffle kids around to the schools with the lower attendance rates to "balance things out"...regardless if you bought into the better district or not.

In the end, there is no benefit to paying more for a specific area when your kid could end up going across town instead of 5 blocks away.

"I'm so much happier and better off today to be unmarried. Farewell and good riddance Suzanne and my ex-wife."

That is sooooooo true!!!! Today's American male is supposed to show his "feminine" side, and be an all wishy-washy, ooooey-goooey, "feminine" kinda' guy (aka a spineless, useless, impotent piece of sh*t)- kinda' like silly-putty. All the while, these b*tches get to run all over us. And, when the b_itches want something, they swoon as if they have your weak little ass in their hands, and in most cases they do. So you work yourself nearly to death to try to please your "wife" and she's never quite got enough. She always wanting more. So, you work harder to get her more. Take three jobs if you have to, just satisfy this woman, so maybe, just maybe, she might give you a little in the sack.
I am now a single guy after being married many years, and I must say that I do like being able to burp when I want and watch tv when I want and go where I want-without some pissy-ass b_tch trying to lead me around by the zipper. I'm glad I got that out. I feel much better now! Oh yeah, I think that the Suzanne ad was the sorriest piece of crap that I have ever seen. It strikes to the lowest form of advertising .

This is not only an american phenomenom, and people who read this blog should know it, its world wide.
I live in south orange county, a conservative stronghold, and everyone here is materialistic,
I am planning to relocate to San Fransico, a liberal town, and its the same over there.
My brother lives in Dublin Irland, their runnup in prices was worse than the US.
My former wife was never materialistic, and would rather be financialy secure, than overeach financialy to own a biger home, we rented many years, no problem.
My current wife is the same way, we sold our home, we may buy again once this bottoms out, or maybe not, either way is fine.
Stupid people are worldwide, and finacialy smart people are world wide.
This finger pointing is so childish, and doesnt take half a brain to see through it.
The people who didnt buy or use their house as an atm during the bubble years will be fine, the susan followers, regardless of nationality, or political leanings will be financialy decapitated.

Oiy, how could you blame this whole mess solely on American women? Silly, folks, just silly. It has nothing to do with what sex the moron is...a moron is a moron is a moron. Sheeple are sheeple.

Anyone who allows their partner into pressuring them while making such an important decision should NOT, in fact, be a partner and would be better off alone.

That said, I think the video is worse, though more amusing. Their kid(s) are going to have a great time at that perfect school when they're wearing clothes that are too small and have no money for lunch and can't shower because the McMansion water is turned off. Woo hoo!

That's an interesting point. "We can do this" - what does that mean?

* We can work even longer and even harder to try to somehow make more money so that we can try to avoid foreclosure on a house we have no business living in at this stage of our lives

* We can "buy" this house that is way beyond our means so that our friends and family will think we're successful

* We can pay our realtor on the phone more in commission for "getting to work" doing some paperwork than we'll be able to save in the next 10 years

* We can become slaves to a debt-trap, never being able to enjoy ourselves again as we have no money left over to experience life and a massive debt hanging over our heads every day

Or something like that?

We can do this!!!

I was the one who told everyone that the prices were unsustainable. However, I do remind my husband often how lucky he is to have a woman like me because I do know many women who are idiots and want the perfect, luxury-laden life although they can't afford it. Hell, I even turned down a bigger wedding ring for a more modest $1,000 dollar eternity band that I always get compliments on. I hate those pretentious rocks that silly women want.

The Suzanne ad is worse, partly because it was so poorly timed and plays on the sterotypical gender roles in such a negative way.

I don't for a second think that the housing crisis can be attributed to one particular gender, or political beliefs... or that the Suzanne ad is representive of the problem that caused this crisis.

I suspect that each family that loses their home will have a diffent story to tell... after all, as Tolstoy said, "Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in it's own way."

I feel bad for women that are mistreated, but the societal oppression today is squarely AGAINST MEN. Wake up Man!(woman).

Watch the commercials that put down men and fathers over and over. There are even commercials where women physically hit men. Try running a commercial with the roles reversed.

My wife and I have three boys and we plan to brief them thoroughly as they get older to make sure no women put their balls in their Gucci bags.

Go buy yourself the book: "The War Against Boys: How Misguided Feminism Is Harming Our Young Men"(Written by a "SMART" WOMAN Phd) then come back and comment. Our society has been and is raising a generation of bioitches.
