Anyone buy eggs or milk lately?

Ben Bernanke hates the poor and middle class.

And he's just getting started. Inflation will roar. And the little guy, as always, gets killed.

Maybe you should have your employer pay you in eggs or milk, instead of dollars.

Want a tip?
DBA. 25% wheat, 25% soy beans, 25% sugar, 25% corn. It's gonna take a lot more of those worthless dollars to buy that Denny's Grand Slam and ramen noodles too. Or even fill up your tank to go buy groceries.

Why? Because Ben Bernanke hates you.

Industry analysts and some economists fear the strain will get worse as people are hit with higher home heating bills this winter and mortgage rates go up.

Food costs have increased 4.5 percent over the past 12 months, partly because of higher fuel costs. Egg prices were 44 percent higher, while milk was up 21.3 percent over the past 12 months to nearly $4 a gallon, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The average family of four is spending $7 to $10 extra a week — $40 more a month — on groceries alone, compared to a year ago, according to retail consultant Burt Flickinger III.

LOL...I eat fairly simply. It's all the "foodies" that had to eat out all the time and can't cook to save their lives that are gonna be screwed! Fast food for all the FB's!

Yeah, that's what's breaking their backs. It has nothing to do with the ARMs on their McMansions, the payments on the Hummers and CCs. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact they have a garage full of crap destined for the "landfill". No, they are innocent little victims. Please! They deserve, and will get, hard times galore. Bring on the pain!

I have a very large garden each year and cut firewood off my land. Does Ben?

It also means just a little more bad health for the working family... fresh produce can seem like a luxury compared to the cheap non-spoiling crap in the center of the market. Just what America needs on top of everything else... fat carbo-loaded miserable working folk. Inflationhis is where it starts to effect everybody, not just home-debtor housing serfs.

The worst part is that by pretending that inflation is lower than is actually the case, the government can say the economy is growing when it is actually in a recession.

Keep a couple chickens in your backyard, that's what the mexicans do. Steaks too expensive? Head down to the pound and grab an unwanted dog, why do you think those chinese restaraunts are always so cheap?

Ok food is up 4.5%. My rent is unchanged. I spend 5-6 times as much on rent as I do on food. I also bought a 2 year old car for almost 50% off MSRP of a new one. No way I could have done that last year. Prices for cars, especially almost new used luxury cars are plummeting.

I am an independent consultant and my hourly rate is 12% higher today than last year. So I have to pay $10 more a week in groceries. Come on man, get a grip. This is a non-story. You are doing a very MSM thing now.

I'm not sure if Ben hates us....but he certainly likes his Wall Street buddies more!
I'm so fooking sick of those WS hucksters crying 'Wolf' every fooking time things get a bit tough for them. Fooking Crybaby Socialists.

As far as I'm concerned people deserve all the pain they can get in this country. They fell for the republicans' story and now should suffer for it. "Vote for us and we'll cut off the poor so you can pay less taxes". Many thought that 90% of the taxes they paid went to "welfare". Surprise! Now the middle class gets to suffer too as the republicans shifted the wealth to the top 5% over their 30 year reign.

Looking back to the last long period of republican rule we see the same thing. The republicans controlled the country from the late 1800s to the 1930s, a period that saw the rich take more and more of the pie. It culminated in The Great Depression after which the republicans dropped to 20% of Congress and Roosevelt won 4 terms, instituting many socialist policies.

The middle class grew due to these policies and then grew spoiled and ignorant, their selfishness and greed exploited by the conservatives. I actually enjoy hearing about the "reagan democrats", those formerly high paid union grunts who now get to work at WalMart thanks to the republican policies of union-busting and "globalizing" our blue collar jobs.

This next downturn should be a doozy and this time I hope we do more than simply remove republicans from office. I sincerely hope to see the people go Stalin on them. Yes, sounds crazy but I can now see how things like that can happen. Think about how much you enjoy seeing the bullies in movies destroyed. Their arrogance, cruelty and indifference makes them so easy to hate. The republicans are mean-spirited bullies who deserve lots of angry backlash. If it's violent, even better.

So, does this mean us bitter renters ought to be shopping hard for a fire sale home and lock in a fixed rate for the next 30 years?

Who’s the ‘real’ traitor’

Al-Jakeefer,
Do us all a favor and take your buddy Ron Paul with you on your vagabond trips across the Atlantic, anywhere outside of this country is fine, but we would prefer off the American continent.

How about ‘the Keith and Ron gypsy tour’

Both of you living in a cardboard box on the streets of France with gold coins in your pocket, holding a cardboard sign, on it, written with black magic marker,
‘Pessimists “R” us’

There's no inflation. A 32MB flash memory stick is only $4 today compared to $200 three years ago.

Food prices getting to be beyond the breaking point for the poor class of people will lead to anarchy very quickly.

In the good old days we had a few people who were in the elite class, many middle, and many poor. Now we have very few elities, few middle, and many many poor; a pyramid shape.

When the bottom of the pyramid is unable to live the whole thing will fall.

Americans are so stupid to be worried about $4 gasoline. I am very worried about $6 milk. Expensive gas means fewer drivers and economic depression. Expensive food means a knife in your chest or a shot gun blast to the face.

Ramen will soon be "whats on the menu" for all of us.

Of course, inflation will be touted as "tame" (once you eliminate food, housing, and gas) and the global corporations will continue to get rate cuts making our problems even worse.

Unfortunately Ben is just a tool (like Dubya) of the corporate/zionist pirates who are raping this country knowing full well that nobody is gonna do anything about it.

At this poin there is no option except an outright revolution by the people to take back their country....but the pain is not severe enough....just yet.

everyone is missing the point completely it is a government lead conspiracy to eliminate diabetes by folks not having as much money to waste it on fast food, and restaurants and potato chips. We will be forced to kill our food, grow it in the back yard and it won't be filled with Monsanto chemicals that are making us obese and lazy. You should be thanking your government for looking out for your health by driving up prices so high that there won't be any money left over for eating out luxuries and in return for your investment by not investing in restaurants your blood sugar will be reduced your pancreas will start pumping out the sugar like a rusty piston and voila we will be saved.
My suggestion is to save water because although the manufactors tried to take it over for profit, that pesky rain kept being a problem for them. Can you imagine how much bottled water is being bought in Georgia. Corporate America's dream (bottled water more expensive than gas) now if only the whole of America has a drought. Think GREEN, Think Global Warming Think Billions of Dollars.
You all have completely missed the point. LOL

I pay $2.49 for a gallon of the 'good' milk (no BSE) and $1 for 18 eggs (with coupon) - Oregon.

I read about all the increases in food prices, but I just don't see it myself. We feed 4 people (2 little kids) with $400 a month and we eat very well - no real scimping at all.

I'm as much of a doomer as anyone - but until GAS PRICES rise (not just oil prices) I don't see any big effect yet. I would even venture to say with housing crashing, life is getting cheaper for a lot of people - more rentals on the market - no more crushing mortgage payments.

Food cost rise with ENERGY costs first and foremost. Gas is still under $3 - when it gets to $5 - then you can start to see some real pain - now it's just hyperbole IMO.

I'm cool. My US Weekly is still just the same ole price. For under 3 dollars I can read about Britney and ferget all mah troubles... Oh MY GAWD, did you hear what she did today?!?

Yeah..milk is expensive.. just ask Hershey and their not so sweat earnings.

Ethanol is the worse enviro program. All it does it jack up corn prices which jacks up feed prices which jacks up food prices. But hey, we burn more fuel harvesting and transporting ethanol than just sticking with fossil fuels. So it is a lose lose! Awesome.

No starvation here, use the internet grocery buying gamers and coupon cutters to keep it all cheap. Play the game, grab loss-leader stocks on rotation, repeat. Clipping coupons can save a fortune if you have a preset plan. The truth is most folks who aimlessly browse the supermarkets waste more time than the planners who cut coupons.

Think about how you can generate savings with >100% ROI per year and keep building from your savings. Cut out some fat (cable, etc) for a couple months to get the start up cash. (It doesn't take a Ching Chong Chinamen to make a dollar out of 15 cents).

Grab Ramen on sale, you can get a ton for cheap, maybe even with throw-away money.

Oh the indignity of eating Ramen noodles or rice or whatever!

The Greatest Generation took bullets in the chest for you and gave up everything 18 year olds should someday have, and you have people talking about violence on fellow Americans over food here. GG would have given anything for a year of Ramen noodles at home with their family.

All of the foreigners not living in this country that have posted your demeaning crap on this blog better beware. If this Great ship of the U.S.A. goes down... You bet your ass that your country will fall much harder. Don't you know that we are all interconnected via trade, investments, corporations, tourism, etc.

So with that being said you best start praying to your G-d or G-d's for our country that we get our shit together. Yes our situation is very very grim. I do foresee more than $5 a gallon for gas etc. All the tell tale signs are there in black and white. Numbers don't lie. This will all be revealed by January 2008. The effects of the market are not always felt immediately. It's a cascading ripple effect.

I feel like the gov't, the fed, the NAR, the banks, the media have ALL asked the band to continue playing to distract us. All the while, they are escorting the elite class to the life boats. This titanic is sinking and there are not enough life boats for the lower classes.

Speak for yourself friend. I am a consultant and have never made more money than I making right now. Working for someone else is stupid. If you are not capable of making it on your own, don't assume everyone else is like you. Nobody ever got rich working for someone else. Wise up asshole.

I get the biggest kick when I read all these anti government populist rants. Now the government is responsible for the hyperinflation of food prices.

Get off it, it is you who wanted "free trade, free markets, de regulation" so that you could be free to pursue your lust (in all their many forms).

Well now you got it and you dont like it.

Seems like many posts here think they are the authority to solve all our problems when they are actually adding to it. Why do you keep re-electing the same idiots over and over again? What happened to term limits? And if Bitterrenter thinks the Democrats are the answer then either this person doesn't make any taxable income or makes so much it doesn't matter. Mrs. Bill Clinton has made it quite clear that we make to much money. She will take MY earned money and put it where she wants. I don't think I make to much money and prefer giving it to my local charities. The Democrat party is just as wealthy as the Republican party, they just want everyone to forget about their multiple owned upscale hotels and vineyards. Harry and Nancy are EXTREMLEY wealthy. But if they talk about the poor children enough we are supposed to forget they actually ARE the super rich. Their message to you is that you are stupid and they are smarter and that gives them to authority to "save you from yourself". And you trust them more?

Find a poor struggling want-a-be politician and elect them, for either party. Get rid of the good ole boy connections for all parties. Get rid of the lobbyist. Mrs. Bill Clinton is holding her "meet the rural people" get together with Monsanto. Talk about big bucks and lobbyists!

And as for the price of eggs, (and milk, cheese) if you buy from your local farmer, they are better quality and cheaper. If you think that the only place you can buy eggs is at a grocery store, then shame on you. Think how much it cost to ship those eggs across country. Buy local, save money, support your family farmer-and hopefully it's organic or pesticide free which have not been feed genetically modified seed (Monsanto) in their feed. Pasture raised is best for everyone because they don't pollute our streams with chemicals. Local farmers-it's a win-win.

Okay sure I'm game... But first can you please tell me where there is a local farmer in Los Angeles County? Don't you think I'll spend my savings driving an hour or so away? I'm just saying, it is a great gesture, but not realistic for those of us who live in metropolitan cities.
