I'm outta here! (breathe deep - only for 48 hours)

Off to Paris for a couple of days, probably won't be able to check in much

Of course, when I'm gone I expect all hell to break loose. Bear Stearns anyone?

Keep commenting, and I'll get to them when I can. Also, for kicks, go look at old HP posts from a year or more ago in the archives. Back in the day when we were saying "massive housing bubble gonna burst" while the sheeple were still lining up at new home developments.

Ah, the memories...

Au revoir

Do they still take U.S. dollars? There's been a lot of talk older American currency won't be accepted.

Keith, I don't understand why no one seems to be connecting the dots with Bear Stearns. Were they not the ones who put out the buy on New Century a week or so before they tanked? New Century ... troubled hedge fund (contains NC) ya think?

You better take a deep breath and hold it. Paris in summertime stinks like a sewermain exploded from all those unwashed french people and women walking around in tanktops with hairy armpits.

Yuck.

* * NEWS FLASH * *

I think parts of Washington DC are on FIRE!! As of 6:37 pm EST, as heard over the CTA-1N Satnet wire service. Nothing on CNN or ABC. Must be some sort of media black-out at this time? Over 30 buildings on fire.

Standby for update.

Most people think that their house has appreciated in the last year and Bear Stearns only needs half of the funds they committed to keep their hedge fund solvent.

It's time to head to the beach for the summer holidays. No tidal waves are expected.

In 1973 corporations were making record profits. There was an unpopular war directed by an unpopular president. Inflation which had been mentioned many times in the late 1960s was stubbornly popping up everywhere. Gold was rallying from its long slumber. Warren Buffett had directed his investors to Sequoia, because he couldn't find any value.

Meanwhile in 1973 the Dow finally cracked the 1000-mark which it fell just short of in early 1966. Oil prices and oil shortages caught Americans in their large automobiles unprepared.

History doesn't repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme.

The worst smells I have ever experiencd in my life was a summer 1997 subway ride in Paris. Not kidding. I had to get out at the first stop and felt like I would throw up. The next train was rather foul as well but not as bad as the first one.

It's shit like this that brings out tin foil hat accusations. Nothing on CNN or ABC because CNN and ABC would be reporting on fires 24/7/365 otherwise. In every city at any given time there is a fire somewhere. When it happens every day it's not news.

Hey Keith, I lived in Paris for a year while studying French at Sorbonne. I rented a small flat in the heart of Quartier Latin, next to the Pantheon. If you need any tips, I know that city inside out, since I only hanged out with the French locals. I've been going back twice a year since then. People who go there for a few days only don't have a clue of how great that city is. Especially those that don't speak French. Is it a perfect city? No, but which one it's?

PS 1: Don't dress like an American in Phoenix, AZ.

PS 2: Have some drinks at Hotel Costes bar or at the Buddha Bar. But prepare the wallet.

PS 3: Paris in 48 hrs is a waste of time and money. You can't see anything!
