Ruh-roh... President and Commander in Chief Cheney stands on side of ship off coast of Iran and flips them off

Everyone enjoying that $4 a gallon gas and living in homes 50 miles away from work? Good. So is oilman Cheney. And he's only got 20 months left to finish his grand plan.

In Gulf, Cheney warns Iran of U.S. resolve

Vice President Dick Cheney used the deck of an American aircraft carrier just 240 kilometers off Iran's coast as the backdrop Friday to warn the country that the United States was prepared to use its naval power to keep Tehran from disrupting oil routes or "gaining nuclear weapons and dominating this region."

Little of what Cheney said in the cavernous hangar bay of the aircraft carrier John C. Stennis, one of two carriers whose strike groups are now in the Gulf, was new. Each individual line had, in some form, been said before, at various points in the four-year-long nuclear standoff with Iran, and during the increasingly tense arguments over whether Iran is aiding the insurgents in Iraq.

But Cheney stitched all of those warnings together, and the symbolism of sending the administration's most famous hawk to deliver the speech so close to Iran's coast was unmistakable.

Cheney's sharp warnings appeared to be part of a two-track administration campaign to push back at Iran, while leaving the door open to negotiations. It was almost exactly a year ago that the United States offered to negotiate with Iran as long as it first agreed to halt enriching uranium, a decision in which Cheney, participants said, was not a major player.

Similarly, the speech Friday was not circulated broadly in the government before it was delivered, a senior American diplomat said.

"He kind of runs by his own rules," the official said.

President Ahmadinejad, does not recognize the existence of the USA
So keifer, what’s the issue?
I personally don’t recognize the existence of the sun or the moon.

Amenajad is politically unpopular in Iran.

Bush administration is down in the polls at home (term drawing to a close and economic stormfront rapidly approaching...)

These two sides need each other. They need to but heads publicly so they can manipulate the sheep at home. Expect very low aspirations for the next 20 months as the knuckleheads on both sides grind it down to boost themselves. Here's to hoping they do as little harm to anyone else as is possible.

One has to wonder how many onboard the carrier thought they'd be better off quarentining 5-medical deferrment Cheney to the ship jail rather than let him stink everything up further?

Cheney should put on a suicide vest and go give Ahmadinejad a bear hug. End of problems.

Very interesting analysis here, in the context of Israel's economy and the strength of the shekel:
http://www.freebuck.com/articles/tandros
/070508tandros.htm
It mentions August as the get-go.

"Israeli opinion polls also show that 70% of the public believe Iran will acquire nuclear weapons in the years ahead, and 75% believe that Iran will use them. “Like it or not, the Zionist regime is heading toward annihilation. The Zionist regime is a rotten, dried tree that will be eliminated by one storm,” warned Iran’s president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on April 15, 2006.

"On February 19, 2007, IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei confirmed that Iran has mastered crucial nuclear technology to enrich uranium on an industrial scale as early as this August, at its nuclear facility in Natanz.

"That’s led to speculation in Israel that sometime in August, US President George Bush will decide whether or not to launch a large-scale military assault against Iran. Russian Col.-Gen. Leonid Ivashov, vice president of the Academy of Geopolitical Sciences, said on March 27th, that the Pentagon is planning to deliver a massive air strike on Iran’s military infrastructure in the near future, “that would enable the Americans to bring Iran to its knees at minimal cost.

"He also said the US Naval presence in the Persian Gulf has for the first time in the past four years reached the level that existed shortly before the invasion of Iraq in March 2003. The USS John C. Stennis, with a crew of 3,200 and around 80 fixed-wing aircraft, including F/A-18 Hornet and Super-hornet fighter-bombers, eight support ships and four nuclear submarines are heading for the Gulf, where a similar group led by the USS Dwight Eisenhower has been deployed since December 2006. The US has also Patriot anti-missile systems to the region.

"Which ever way the wind blows, only 8% of Israelis polled said they would consider leaving the country if Iran does get the bomb. The Iranian nuclear threat hasn’t stopped the flood of foreign investment into Israel which equaled two-thirds of the net investment in Russia and one-third into China last year, and is still powering the shekel and Israeli stocks higher. South Korea’s tiger economy also prospered with booming exports under the shadow of a nuclear Pyongyang for the past five years.

"Is Iran’s Ahmadinejad just another hothead, all bark and no bite, and simply aiming to jawbone oil prices as high as possible? Ninety-five percent of Iran’s foreign exchange earnings are linked to oil sales. And Tehran’s steadfast allies in the Kremlin and Caracas are also profiting handsomely from the tension in the Middle East.

"Instead, global investors share the views of Shimon Peres, the political insider of the Oligarchs, who sees little chance of an armed conflict in the Persian Gulf. “The US has managed, via economic leverage, to counter the threat of nuclear weapons in Libya, the Ukraine, South Africa, and now North Korea. It’s not impossible that the same could happen in Iran, which is a poor, weakened nation,” Peres said.

"Likud chief Netanyahu has also called on the world to stop Iran's nuclear ambitions in its tracks by imposing sanctions on the Tehran regime. “I want to call on the world that didn’t stop the Holocaust last time to stop any attempt this time and what needs to be done is divest from genocide. The moment the snowball of voluntary economic sanctions begins, the pressure on Iran will be immense,” he added. But none of Iran’s major trading partners are listening to the lone voice in the woods.

"But when it comes to predicting the future of the “Incredible” Israeli shekel, and a possible future confrontation between Israel and the Ayatollah of Iran, perhaps it’s best to refer to the Biblical scriptures for insight. The prophet Job once remarked, “The divine intelligence is beyond us and God’s ways are inscrutable. We simply cannot understand them all no matter how high the level of our wisdom.”

About as difficult to predict as the DowJones Index - har har!

Ahmadinejad would love to see USA to attack some its nuclear facilities. He does not care about that. What is important for him is that such an attack would help him and his fellow hardliners to consolidate more power and to justify his hard line positions better.

War is good for fanatics. Here we have two hardliners one in Tehran and the one in Washington. They have latched on each other perfectly and neither side minds a conflict, because they know conflicts are good for them.

The only path to peace in the Middle East is to have Israel settle all of the arab lands.
Deport all the arabs to France.
Israel will turn the whole region into a productive open and free society.
The French will put the arabs in their place, enforce a strict code of conduct
no more funny clothing.
There is NO distinction between Arab and Persian in the area of sanity.

Ahem????

Get a brain!

Falafel/Felafel/Falefel whatever is transliterated phonetically from Arabic or Hebrew.

There isn't any single correct spelling in Latin alphabet.

Remember the Libyan dictator Kaddhafi/Qadafi/Qhaddafi? Same person, same word--in Arabic.
