Has the US lost its moral authority to lead?

Boy, that picture of the guy hooked up to the mains sure looks different to the footage of our hostages, eh Keith? ;)

I think the world could forgive America very quickly, but it would require a radically different approach to foreign policy. We need someone to lead the way regarding alternative energy. Think that is going to happen?

El Queeferoni.
This is a real dumb question.
A) There really is no such thing as ‘moral authority’ God himself has zero authority without his ability to snuff out ones life or cause severe pain.
B) Does it matter if what kind of authority we have? So long as break the will of our life threatening enemies to fight us, by whatever authority we can muster.
C) To argue that at this time in history any other people, nation or Country has higher moral values then the US is simply insane, true we are not perfect we are still growing and learning.
D) Do we even need to compare? The enemies we are fighting now, strap bombs to their own selves intentionally destroy their own self-existence overcoming the most basic instinct of survival, mothers send their little babies to self destroy overcoming basic mother instincts.
E) Most recent example, watching the British soldier humbly confessing to lies just to save his own very life and to have the chance to once again see his family, Geeee.. what human would not do everything they can to survive. VS the confessions and lies of our captured murderers enemies in Gitmo who will say and do anything to kill and murder themselves and anyone else that does not agree with them.

Here is what the Iran Web News says about the "US war mongers"
(their words).

Good to be informed.

Iran note ties nuclear stance to fear of attack

LONDON, March 31 (IranMania.com) - Iran's decision to stop giving early notice of nuclear development plans to the UN watchdog was prompted by fear the information would be used for a US or Israeli attack, Tehran has told the monitoring agency, Reuters reported. ...........

Iranian IAEA Ambassador Ali Asghar Soltanieh, in a letter to IAEA director Mohamed ElBaradei obtained by Reuters, said Tehran was forced to shield nuclear plans from what he called constant threats by the United States and Israel, both of which have mooted last-resort military action against Iran.

Soltanieh also cited what he called improper leaks to Western powers of confidential data from IAEA inspections of its nuclear installations, and what he termed UN efforts to deny its "inalienable right" to peaceful nuclear energy.

"As long as such threats of military action persist, Iran has no option but to protect its security through all means possible, including protection of information which can facilitate openly stated and aggressive military objectives of the war mongers," he wrote.

It’s incredible, nobody saw this coming? C’mon turn off the dam TV you sheep, there’s no real news there.

“March 21st 2007 will be one of the most significant dates this month.
Iran has outlawed the American dollar and will put anyone in jail that uses it in their country after that date. They have the ominous notoriety of being the first nation in the world to do such a thing. On the heels of Iran's decision, North Korea has followed suit and also outlawed the use of the American dollar in their country. Finally, Malaysia the next day did the same thing.”

March 11th 30 day countdown to war

"Russian media is sounding alarms. In February, ultra-nationalist leader Vladimir Shirinovsky warned that the US would launch a strike against Tehran at the end of this month. Then last week, the Russian News and Information Agency Novosti (RIA-Novosti) quoted military experts predicting the US will attack Iran on April 6th, Good Friday. According to RIA-Novosti, the imminent assault will target Iranian air and naval defense capabilities, armed forces headquarters as well as key economic assets and administration headquarters."

“The Iran/Iraq maritime boundary shown on the British government map does not exist. It has been drawn up by the British Government. Only Iraq and Iran can agree on their bilateral boundary, and they have never done this in the Gulf, only inside the Shatt because there it is the land border too. This published boundary is a fake with no legal force...Anyway, the UK was plainly wrong to be ultra-provocative in disputed waters...They [the British Marines] would under international law have been allowed to enter Iranian territorial waters if in “hot pursuit” of terrorists, slavers, or pirates....But they were looking for smuggled vehicles attempting to evade car duty. What has the evasion of Iranian or Iraqi taxes got to do with the Royal Navy?”

Hey Keith - all it woulkd take is an apology from Blair...

Why is it the Brits are the biggest useless eaters on the planet (besides Americans).

Why can't Blair leave his pride at the door?

Nope!
If the US had moral authority is would not whimper to the so-called Arab street.
It would stand by her allies with pride
It would send troops to fight side by side with the Israelis when its civilians are being attacked by its common enemies
It would include the Israelis as part of its coalition in its common war against terror.
It would not pretend to play an even hand between Americas enemies and America’s allies
It would openly, loudly and decisively declare War on the source of all this craziness ‘Energy independence’ we would not be in this situation today if we where not directly funding those few who are behind all of this.

Think about it, had we set out to make America not only energy independent but to be the greatest exporter of renewable energy the morning after 9-11,, how different things would have been today.

Nope we send out troops for the Israelis to fight their enemies in Iraq and soon in Iran. They haven't sent their troops to help us out in Iraq. But the AIPAC lobby helped push us into war. We send Israel clusterbombs so they can bomb Lebanon. Lebanese die. Lebanese hate Americans now when before they didn't. We send Israel billions of US taxpayer dollars a year so they can oppress the Palestinians. And by the way Iranians are Persian and other races not Arabs. We don't even know who we are war mongering against eh? No wonder "they" hate the United States. Its not because they hate our freedom sheeple. Its who we back in the region its the policies stupid. Go read Walt and Mersheimer's paper on the Israeli lobby in the US and please wake up! Or better yet read Imperial Hubris by Michael Scheur, former CIA officer of Alec Station-the division that tracked Osama.

Hey HPers.. sloooow down here.
As A Palestinian not only do we have ownership on ‘suffering’ but we also happen to have a trademark on ‘victim’, that’s right!
We must be very careful not to go down this slippery slope and calling the British captives ‘victims’.
We are the great ‘victims’!
And as with ‘suffering’ we have a legitimate right to resist any ‘victim’ infringement.

...It would send troops to fight side by side with the Israelis when its civilians are being attacked by its common enemies...

Yawn.

I'm getting bored of this AIPAC war-drum BS. If Bush would just pick up the phone and tell Israel that from now on they are just another foreign country, most of the problems in the region would defuse anyway. Americans are soon going to get tired of dying to protect your ugly little splinter of promised land.

If Israel wants to throw it's weight around, it can do it without the big kid in the playground backing it up for a change. Maybe once it has had a good, long taste of it's own pi*s it might act with a little more humility.

Precisely! if we had the balls to treat Israel like we do other ‘foreign countries’
Ie the Brits, the Poles, the Aussies.etc. Openly support her and declare ‘ you mess with our allies = you mess with us’ we would have moral authority!
As for the problems in the region it has all to do with greedy oil tycoons who enjoy all the riches of its land while oppressing its people and distracting them by spending billions of dollars maintaining ‘the problems in the region’. Basically doing 2 things.
1) Explaining to their suffering populations that the reason for all their troubles is some small group of Jews living on a few acres of holy Islamic lands and if we destroy these horrible infidels all would be great,.
2) Betting on the international world being ignorant lazy sheeple who would not stand up for what is right because they need our cheap fossil fuel.

This whole notion that if we would be ‘nice’ to those angry programmed Islamo fascist
And not offend them in any way with things like cartoons or sharing our planet with infidels. All of the problems in the region would just go away.
Its all a big secret conspiracy by a group of elite elders..

IF the border in the water isn't recognized, then Iran can't say it's "theirs" either. Just like Iraq can't say it's "theirs".

Even though the border isn't in dispute. The border was recognized under Saddam/Iran for decades.

But no matter, if Iran says it's "theirs" then it is. And the UK is the bad guy.

What's with you West haters? Iran, where you'd be shot or have your eyes gouged out if you dissented from the gov't is good. The US, which has given you the highest standard of living in the world, is the bad guy. Seek help please.

As far as "Iran will stop using the US dollar!!". Who gives a shit? Using dollars doesn't "prop up the currency" at all...using them in transactions isn't a net user. It doesn't destroy dollars, it circulates them. Only if holders of US $ based assets sell their assets and sell the dollars resulting from them would it crash the dollar.

Japan has a HIGHER gov't debt than the US as a % of GDP...why aren't they worried about their currency crashing?

Exclusive: Iranians Had Showdown With U.S. Forces
By Anna Mulrine
Posted 3/23/07

As the British government demanded the immediate release of 15 of its sailors whose boats were seized by Iranian naval vessels in the Persian Gulf on Friday, U.S. News has learned that this is not the first showdown that coalition forces have had with the Iranian military.

According to a U.S. Army report out of Iraq obtained by U.S. News, American troops, acting as advisers for Iraqi border guards, were recently surrounded and attacked by a larger unit of Iranian soldiers, well within the border of Iraq.
Related News

* More from Politics
* More from Nation & World

The report highlights the details: A platoon of Iranian soldiers on the Iraqi side of the border fired rocket-propelled grenades and used small arms against a joint patrol of U.S. and Iraqi soldiers east of Balad Ruz. Four Iraqi Army soldiers, one interpreter, and one Iraqi border policeman remain unaccounted for after the September incident in eastern Diyala, 75 miles east of Baghdad.

During a joint border patrol, both American and Iraqi soldiers saw two Iranian soldiers run from Iraq back across the Iranian border as they approached. The patrol then came upon a single Iranian soldier, on the Iraqi side of the border, who did not flee.

While the joint U.S.-Iraqi patrol was speaking with the soldier, according to the report, the patrol was "approached by a platoon-size element of Iranian soldiers." An Iranian border captain then told the U.S. and Iraqi soldiers that "if they tried to leave their location, the Iranians would fire upon them." During this conversation with the Iranian captain, Iranian forces began firing and continued when U.S. troops tried to withdraw.

Iraqi and American forces returned fire "to break contact and left the area to report the incident," the report noted. "The Iranian forces continued to fire indirect fire well into Iraq as Coalition Force soldiers withdrew; for reasons unknown at this time, the Iraqi Army forces remained behind."

No American soldiers were wounded in the incident.

It is possible that Iranians thought they were in Iranian territory, according to U.S. military officials. Such border confusions and disputes happen routinely.

In the British naval incident on Friday, Iran claimed it seized the vessels because they were in its territorial waters. U.S. military officials tell U.S. News that the Iranian forces very likely belong to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, which tend to be far more aggressive than regular Iranian naval forces, which U.S. military officials routinely describe as "extremely professional."

Iranian and Iraqi forces continue to clash in Iraq. U.S. special operations forces have been tasked with nabbing Iranian members of the Revolutionary Guards' al-Quds Brigade, the foreign operations arm of the Iranian military, which also supports Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in the Palestinian territories.

U.S. forces grabbed six Iranians with alleged ties to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in the northern Iraqi city of Arbil in January, reportedly using stun bombs, seizing computers, and taking down an Iranian flag from the raided building's roof. Iran said the building was a consulate and the men were diplomats–and continues to demand their release. One of Iraq's most powerful Shiite politicians condemned the raid, calling it an attack on Iraq's sovereignty.

American forces may soon be getting further insight into recent Iranian attacks. Earlier this month, a former Iranian deputy defense minister who once commanded the Revolutionary Guards–and is thought to have considerable knowledge of Iran's national security network–left the country and is said to be cooperating with western intelligence agencies, sharing information on links between Iran and Hezbollah in south Lebanon, for example. Iranian officials said the official, Ali Rez Asgari, was kidnapped by western agents.

Shortly afterward, Iran threatened to retaliate in Europe for the supposed kidnapping, what it claims to be the most recent in a series of abductions in the past three months. According to the British Sunday Times, in the Revolutionary Guards' weekly newspaper this week, a columnist believed to have close ties to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wrote: "We've got the ability to capture a nice bunch of blue-eyed, blond-haired officers and feed them to our fighting cocks. Iran has enough people who can reach the heart of Europe and kidnap Americans and Israelis."

Moscow warns U.S. Iran policy may spark "clash of civilizations"
16:28 | 27/ 03/ 2007

Print version

MOSCOW, March 27 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow urges the United States to avoid escalating tensions around Iran over its nuclear program as it could lead to a "clash of civilizations," the Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

Washington has been pushing for tougher international sanctions against Iran, which it suspects of pursuing a nuclear weapons program. The UN Security Council passed a new resolution Saturday introducing further sanctions on Iran.

"The international community should not risk escalating the situation around Iran and should wait for the U.S. to make a good-faith effort to normalize relations with Tehran," the Foreign Ministry said in a foreign policy review signed by the president.

The Russian ministry said the Iran crisis could have devastating consequences for relations between "civilizations," and then the U.S. would have to prove it is not preparing for a "clash of civilizations" by building up "Fortress America," separated from the rest of the world by two oceans and strict border controls.

The term "clash of civilizations" is part of a theory that people of different cultures and religions will be involved in a post-Cold War conflict. Samuel P. Huntington popularized and expanded the term in his book The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order in 1996.

The Russian ministry said the U.S. was capable of reaching a compromise with Iran, and cited a visit by former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami to the U.S. in August.

"The trip of former Iranian President Khatami to the U.S. in August showed that dialogue between civilizations could become a useful channel for the Americans to establish contacts with Tehran," said the ministry review ordered by President Vladimir Putin in June.

Khatami was the most senior Iranian official to visit the U.S. outside the UN framework in more than two decades after the Islamic Revolution and the embassy hostage crisis in Iran.

Unlike the U.S., Russia, which is building a nuclear power plant in southern Iran, has opposed any tough sanctions against the Islamic Republic. Russian authorities have also been seriously alarmed by U.S. plans to deploy a missile shield in Central Europe to prevent possible strikes from Iran or North Korea.

In his outspoken address to the Munich security conference in February, President Putin said the U.S. missile defense plans could trigger a new arms race, and accused the U.S. of ignoring international law and imposing its own rules on other countries.

"We are seeing an increasing disregard for the fundamental principles of international law," Putin said, adding that Russia would amend its military strategy in response.

RED DAWN: ASIAN MILITARY INVASION OF USA?

A few years back I read the story of an American woman who ran a business in Hong Kong. She fired one of the Chinese workers, who went into a rage [probably justifiable] against the forces of western corporate imperialism. He told her with full assurace that one day China would stage a massive military invasion of the USA. They would flood into the coast in the millions in massive wave after wave of invaders. They expected heavy losses, however the living soldiers would simply walk over the bodies of their dead comerades, and continue the battle. They would be like a massive wave of army ants, unstoppable [consider that Red China's active military numbers well over 5 million with tens of millions of "reserves", whereas the U.S.A.'s active military force numbers less than one million, and most of these are entabgled in foreign U.N. "peace keeping" operations. This does not include Russia, Cuba, the Arab League or any other nation that might choose to side with China in a military invasion of the USA]. Eventually, according to this former Chinese employee, the Americans would eventually run out of bullets and the invaders would prevail as a result of sheer numbers. Shades of Revelation chapter 18?

Actually, while investigating this possibility, I have discovered that there have been MANY OTHERS who have predicted an inevitable global showdown between the forces of Communism and Capitalism, and their respective 'World Order' agendas. Here are some of the claims/prophecies/visions and so on that I have come across to date. This seems to involve the use BY a Euro-American New World Order agenda of Russian and Chinese U.N. troops to help bring the USA into subjection to a Capitalist based "New World Order". However based on information I have heard through the "grapevine", Russia and China may merely be towing the party line of the "New World Order" for NOW, in order to establish a foothold in the USA through the U.N. "Trojan Horse", however once inside they will apparently dump the U.N. agenda and anything to do with the Euro-American based "New World Order" and implement their OWN agenda of a Sino-Russian based "Red World Order" [if you will], in that the old Communist factions of China and Russia will NEVER submit themselves to a New World Order that is centered outside of Asia, nor one that is run by capitalist western international banking empires. So then, determine what you will

Russia slams U.S. global policy

MOSCOW — Russia's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday criticized the United States for what it called over-reliance on force and warned Washington against military action against Iran.

But in a major review of foreign policy priorities, the ministry said Russia was ready to cooperate to end global crises if Washington treats it as an equal partner.

The statement reflects Russia's growing confidence and economic clout, and appears to be a signal to Washington that, while the two nations can work together, Russia will not always follow the U.S. lead. It also plays to national pride in advance of parliamentary and presidential elections.

Russia criticized what it called "the creeping American strategy of dragging the global community into a large-scale crisis around Iran," saying that Iran helps maintain stability in Afghanistan and Central Asia.

At the same time, the ministry's paper assailed Iran for its "unconstructive" stance, reflecting growing Kremlin irritation with its ally's refusal to freeze uranium enrichment, as the U.N. demands.

Russia and China, both permanent U.N. Security Council members with significant trade ties with Iran, have opposed U.S. efforts to impose harsh sanctions against the country. But years of growing international mistrust over Iran's ultimate goals led to initial U.N. sanctions in December and to tougher penalties imposed last Saturday.

Iran has remained defiant, rejecting the latest sanctions and announcing a partial suspension of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the U.N. nuclear watchdog. It also accused Russia of caving in to Western pressure.

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Tuesday that the latest set of sanctions was a "call for the resumption of talks rather than an instrument of punishment" — a statement apparently aimed both at soothing Iran and assuring Russians public that their government was not betraying its partner.

The ministry's paper emphasized the need to conduct a "balanced course on Iran, protecting our national interests in that country while preventing violations of the nuclear non-proliferation regime."

The ministry also hinted that Russia would tie weapons sales to Iran to its cooperation on the enrichment program. "Military-technical ties with Iran must develop on the basis of strict compliance with Russia's international obligations while taking into account developments related to the Iranian nuclear program," it said.

Russia recently delivered 29 Tor M-1 air defense missile systems to Iran despite strong U.S. complaints.

The strategy paper said that arms exports would remain an important component of Russia's foreign policy.

VLADIVOSTOK, March 26 (RIA Novosti) - Russia has begun a scheduled naval exercise in the Sea of Japan, the Pacific Fleet press service said Monday.

A major naval force, Russia's Pacific Fleet has strategic underwater missile cruisers, multipurpose nuclear and diesel submarines, surface ships for operations in the coastal and open-sea zones. The Pacific Fleet also has maritime missile-carrying, antisubmarine and fighter aviation, land troops and coastal guards.

"The exercise, which marks the end of winter combat training, will feature missile and artillery firing, and the search and destruction of submarines," a press service spokesperson said.

Over 15 combat and auxiliary vessels, shore and deck-based aircraft of the Primorye Territory in the Far East will participate in the exercise.

Aircraft crews will practice take-off and landing on the decks of submarine chasers in day and night conditions, while submarine crews will conduct torpedo launches.

Of all the enemies of true liberty, war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few. In war, too, the discretionary power of the executive is extended… War is in fact the true nurse of executive aggrandizement. In war, a physical force is to be created; and it is the executive will, which is to direct it. You’re not capable of making decisions on your own
Every decision you make is not really of your own thinking
It all comes from a massive organization called AIPAC
They are sooooo huge….
