Who's not running for President (yet) that you wish would? Here's a thought: Mark Cuban for President

I'm not satisfied with the lineup thus far. Well, I've never been, so no surprise. 300 million Americans and we get crap for leaders.

So, who's out there that people should be encouraging to run? Maybe a draft _____ effort?

I think in these times we need a businessman, and a visionary, not another damn politician with a nice red tie.

Someone who could take a look at the nation's books like the CEO looks at an income statement or balance sheet and knows immediately what has to be done. Someone who says "fu*k" every now and then. Somebody whose daddy didn't hand it to him.

And someone who isn't a whacko when it comes to abortion, gay marriage, etc (as in someone who doesn't seek to legislate their personal moral and religious beliefs, and lets the states and courts run with it).

We need someone who can make America competitive again. Someone not tied down by partisan Democrat and Republican bulls*it. Someone who would represent the people, not special interests and the NAR. Someone who can take on entitlements, the deficit, and the horrific aftermath of the housing crash. And someone who could restore our reputation around the world (if that is possible in this lifetime)

And someone filthy stinking rich who could fund their own campaign too. That's really the only way to beat the corrupt two-party system.

Here's some ideas for starters:

* Mark Cuban
* Michael Bloomberg
* Oprah Winfrey
* Steve Ballmer
* Jeff Bezos
* Jerry Yang

Thoughts? Or does it even matter?

Oprah would be the most likely to bail out the FB's. Do you want the country run by SUV driving soccermoms?

Cuban got lucky that Yahoo was stupid enough to buy Broadcast.com right before the dotcom boom went bust.

Jeff Bezos had a great idea with Amazon but cannot make it very profitable. He did manage to make plenty of money for himself at shareholder expense though. Amazon stock is flat since 1998 with no dividends.

Steve Ballmer is a nuerotic psycho.

Jerry Yang - don't know a thing about him except he had one great idea with Yahoo. Maybe we need more of a track record.

Bloomberg is the only one who has managed to run a very profitable business for any amount of time. He is an elitist however. I think he's the smartest of the bunch.

The only man (or woman)of principle now running for president is Ron Paul, of Texas.

Mary Carey, because the future will suck and she's got plenty of experience.

That's pretty much the approach that good old H. Ross Perot took in his 1992 candidacy. Very much the businessman. Suspicious of free trade (he has been proven right, incidentally), and filthy stinking rich so he could fund his own campaign. So what if he was a little odd. The guy in there now is downright insane and he got two terms. I agree that the two party system we have in place needs to be scrapped but it's going to take a very special, charismatic candidate to do that and I can't think of anyone right now that would have broad enough appeal. Oprah Winfrey?? I certainly hope not. No more celebs or career pols. I'd like to see someone fresh and untainted. The problem is getting the media to pay attention and give the guy or gal equal (or any) airtime to compete with the establishment.

You're joking right?

Being President is entirely different from being CEO.

Mark Cuban is rich and can tell his employees what to do.

When you are President you can't fire the citizens that you find annoying. It is the citizens who can fire you.

Bush might think he can declare them "enemy combatants" but that's what a tyrant does, not a legitimate president.

Cuban got rich off one good idea, but the best Presidents need deep moral instincts and the ability to really manage between seriously difficult problems.

Some businessmen might, but many, especially really egotistical rich ones, don't. They are used to being little emperors.

People who aren't "career pols" can often be absolutely horrendous.

Would you trust Ralf Nader on anything?

H Ross Perot would probably have melted down like Richard Nixon.

I wouldn't trust Steve Ballmer with a $3 bill.

Wes Clark is pretty decent for an 'outsider', in my opinion.

I voted for Perot... twice!

I'd vote for him again today, or someone like him.

But not "the Donald" though... :-)

Casey Serin for Prez?

Oprah Winfrey?! Are you F-ing kidding me? If that ever came to pass, I'd be on the first plane to Panama.

She's easily an order of magnitude worse than Hillary.

blogger said...

This post was to get you thinking. Who is the perfect candidate? It's definitely not the weak lineup running today

I don't know the politics or positions of any of the list I propose.

What I do know is

1) they could fund their own run, outspending the DNC or RNC

2) they're popular

3) they're evidently smart

4) they're not named "Hillary" or "John" or "Rudy"

I second Mariah Carey. We've never had a president with a three and one-half octave voice.

Further proof that HP regulars are insane. Same HPers that are convinced hyperinflation AND deflation is coming. All I can hope for is that you are too stoned on election day to make it out to the voting booth.

There is a big difference between a CEO and the President of the USA. Maybe not to H. Ross Perot...

The CEOs only job is to enhance the equity of the share holders in the current quarter by increasing revenue and offloading expenses to the general public.

The role of the Government is to foster a level playing field and a healthful environment to ensure life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for today and for future generations.

These jobs are not at all similar. You do not want the Government being run like a corporation.

Keith, a.k.a. "Our Dear Blogger" is too quick to tear into Hillary as if she were Honest Dave or some REIC shill professor from Harvard.

What don't you like about Hillary? Is it because her husband is a womanizer and a pervert? Don't vote for her husband then! I am sure this fact has caused severe pain for Hillary and it is not she who should be punished for this. Do we blame her for sticking with her husband and trying to make it work? I thought thats what strong family values were about, family unity.

Perhaps, Dear Blogger, you are something of a male chauvinist; too quick to point the finger of accusation at a woman for having the tenacity to seeks the power of men. You say that you would welcome a woman president if it were Secretary Rice. Are you KIDDING! I have noting against Secretary Rice, of course other than the fact that she is a blind follower of George W. Bush. Any leader of any character would have parted ways with Bush a long time ago, as Secretary Powel did so many years ago.

But I don't blame you Keith, like many people, we set different standards for men and women without ever really being aware of what we are doing. Luckily for you, you have the Thinker to help you see the error of your ways.

thinker, thinker, thinker, you need to do more thinking and less telling me what I think

I WANT a female president. Or an African American president. Or a Hispanic president. I'm tired of the white male president club.

But I'm not gonna vote or promote the worst female candidate possible - Hillary.

I'll promote Olympia Snowe. I'll promote Barack Obama. But Hillary - no way Jose. She's calculating, cold, not a leader, hated, uninspiring, wrong on Iraq, wrong on entitlements, wrong on NAR, wrong on health care, and just wrong for the US.

Don't tell me what I think, and I won't be so obnoxious as to tell you what you think.

Come on Thinker - you're falling in my book. Think.

"Cuban's story is a dot com joke."

And like Shrub's is any better?

- Gets around waiting list for Air National Guard
- Trains on aircraft unusable for Vietnam
- Get C average in undergrad, yet somehow gets admitted for grad school at a top school (that took a spot away from someone more deserving)
- Somehow gets a drinking problem, despite all he missed out on in life
- Runs an oil company which goes nowhere
- Finds his parents Christmas card list and hits folks up for money
- Buys Texas Rangers by throwing all of his money into it
- Gets a new stadium built (who paid for it?)
- Employs 'The Godfather of the steroid era', Jose Canseco... this is the time other Ranger players say Jose introduced them to 'roids. He could have declined to employ Jose but instead chose to have him and give a bad example to kids. But hey, so long as it increased the value of the franchise
- Sold out of Rangers just a few years later for a massive profit- or was it really a way for the buyer to gain influence?
- What about that family friendship with Ken Lay? Ken Lay's run was worse than a dot com joke.
- Slectively chose data to launch a war he had no skin in. Too bad for the rank and file
- Has done nothing to thrawt the massive credit bubble building under his administration
- How one expects to get raptured with this record is a question for the ages...

Anonymous said...

Absolutely no one on that list is one bit qualified, even Bloomberg.

The other people... well, where's your brain?

You should look for someone with a basic understanding of economics and the theory of money. That pretty much eliminates everyone currently in government except for Ron Paul, who is in fact thinking about running.

Anonymous said...

I was born in 1975. During my lifetime every election has had 1, 2 or 3 members of one of these 5 families running: Bush, Gore, Clinton, Dole, Mondale.

76: Carter/Mondale vs. Ford/Dole
80: Reagan/Bush vs. Carter/Mondale
84: Reagan/Bush vs. Mondale/Ferraro
88: Bush/Quayle vs. Dukakis/Bentsen
92: Clinton/Gore vs Bush/Quayle
96: Clinton/Gore vs. Dole/Kemp
00: Bush/Cheney vs. Gore/Lieberman
04: Bush/Cheney vs Kerry/Edwards

Hillary is running in '08. Gore may too. If either wins, they're running in 2012. Then by 2016 it's not that far fetched to think Jeb Bush may run.

I want an end to this dynasty this year. Enough's enough. In 2008 I don't care who wins as long as it's not a Bush, Gore, Clinton, Dole or Mondale.

Anonymous said...

so the criteria for president is now must be a billionaire eh?

ok then I nominate T. Boone Pickens

Anonymous said...

anon 3:30 wins!

sorry anon 3:38

blogger said...

My reasoning on why billionaires is that in order to defeat the corrupt and entrenched two-party system, an independent or third party candidate is going to need to spend around 500 million of his or her own money to win

and for those that criticized my list of potential candidates as "liberals" - do you really know any of the opinions or policies of any of those people? I sure don't. I just know they're billionaires and successful. period.

The perfect candidate would be a billionaire, libertarian in views, and a centrist that could bring together both parties (if possible).

you notice I didn't nominate soros or turner on the left, or devos or trump on the right.

Someone or something's gonna shake up this election. Just wait.

Anonymous said...

We don't want these stinking, arrogant liberals running the country.

These people probably think too highly of themselves.

Anonymous said...

Heck, why not go for it all and elect Bill Gates for pres if we want a self made billionaire CEO type. Cuban is a 'little man' compared to Bill. Besides, Bill is working full time now to give his money back to the people.

This is completely opposite of the current administration's plundering of the national wealth (think Robber Barrons)... at least we wouldn't get that Bill G.

The Thinker said...

Keith, for someone who purports to be so open minded as to want to get rid of the white male presidency club, I find it odd that you would like to support a billionaire candidate.

So now you propose to put the whole 2-party system on trial?

For the first time in a long time we have some exciting candidates for both parties. Obama and Hillary are both exciting candidates. The Clinton/Obama ticket would truly be a pleasure to vote for!

Keith, if you had listened to me last year you would not have taken a bath in gold. You didnt listen to me then and I really dont expect you will listen to me now, but I am trying to tell you that if you looked deep into your conscience to see what it is that turns you off to Hillary, you may just find that you don't feel comfortable supporting an ambitious female.

As for Hillary's support for the war in Iraq, looking back on it she should have stood up to Bush and voted against the war. I admire all the senators who had the courage and wisdom to see through the President's lies and manipulations, but like Hillary, I myself was for the war at that time. I knew that I was not privy to all of the intel and I had faith that the president would not bring us to war without solid intel. In the end, I was duped, Hillary was duped, and the whole American people were duped.

I did not support the war after the truth came out, neither did Hillary. But we must face the reality that the war is upon us and we must handle this situation correctly or all hell will break loose. We can't just cut and run, because the president is right about one thing, if we cut and run the terrorists will follow us home.

This website has made it clear that our country is in for a world of pain, there is no easy way out of Iraq, global warming, deficit spending, housing meltdown. We NEED a strong, intelligent, confident leader, someone who is smarter and more resourceful than we are. There arent many people out there like that. We need a president like Hillary like we needed FDR!

Anonymous said...

Monkey Boy Ballmer is a nice idea.

He can scream and yell when needed.

And his wife (Connie) would make a nice first lady.

Hey anon with the campaign contribution info - thanks. Great follow-up.

When I selected those names it truly was without preconception of their left or right bent. Just examples of rich business people who aren't tainted in my book (like soros or trump etc)

But alas, they all give to the Dems. What does that tell you? And isn't that weird, since the Reps are the party of the rich?

And the other anon with the Lou Dobbs recommendation - I SECOND THAT ONE BIG TIME.

Unfortunately he doesn't have the $$$ to run and fund his own campaign, but I think he could draw some serious internet contributions with his populist message.

And isn't that weird, since the Reps are the party of the rich?

Uhm Qweefie you are really dense sometimes. The party of the rich is the Dems. These billionaires are representative of the donors of Dems who get their $$ from the rich.

Makes sense. Bezos, Cuban, Yang etc don't give a shit if their tax rate is 30% or 50%. Instead of having $3B in wealth they will only have $2.5B. Their lives won't change at all. But they can boast about caring for the poor and it gets them invitations to the the limousine liberal/hollywood party circuit.

However the average shmoe making $100K a year will feel it in the ass if the tax rate goes from 30% to 50% as Democraps advocate. So they send in a couple of hundred to the GOP to keep taxes low.

You are perpetuating yet another liberal lie and don't even know it.

2002 election data:

Those giving $200 to $999: GOP $68 million; Democrats $44 million.

Those giving $1,000 to $9,999: GOP $317 million; Democrats $307 million.

Donors of $10,000+ gave $111 million to the GOP, $140 million to Democrats.

Those who gave $100,000+, the Democrats raised $72 million – more than double the $34 million the GOP took.

Anonymous said...

Don't assume a billionaire is necessary. A grassroots word-of-mouth support created over the internet would give Ron Paul a chance. He's extremely well spoken and appeals to a large range of people

You can't beat those in power by playing their game.

- Jerry Yang donated to Bush in '04

- Steve Ballmer donated to Arlen Specter (R-Penn)

- Mark Cuban donated to Orin Hatch (R-Utah)

- Jeff Bezos donated to several Republican congressmen too

Don't you get it you Dem/Rep kool aid drinking morons? They donate to everyone in both parties. This way they cover all their bases and don't care who actually wins.

Then let's say oh hypothetically that yahoo and microsoft both need some more slave labor from India, why looky here, there is "bipartisan" support to expand the H1B program and all of Jerry's and Steve's candidates are on board...hmmm imagine that
