HousingPanic Stupid Question of the Night

Generally are you an optimist or a pessimist?

Me - I'm an optimist who is currently pessimistic about the world's economic and social situation, but optimistic that after the really bad stuff to come, we'll be better off for it.

Keith you'd make a great politican. That is one of the finest example of talking out of both sides of your mouth I've ever seen.

Bravo!!

I voted for the $87 billion before I voted against it

Yes, it is possible to have nuances. It just sounds kinda dumb sometimes to simpletons especially.

But it is possible to be an optimist, yet a realist, especially during bad times.

I'm VERY optimistic that this housing crash will destroy the realtor profession. That'll be a great thing for America.

I'm VERY optimistic that massive foreclosures and bankruptcies will teach people to live within their means.

And I'm EXTREMELY optimistic that society will demand changes to stupid tax, social, and fiscal policies.

A catalyst is needed to cause change, and the mother of all catalysts is upon us.

Finally. Bravo.

Step 3 in "How to Sound Smart"
Use the word nuance

I'm curious why the fascination with realtors Keith. One must have hurt you badly...a lost love perhaps? It's weird having a hatred for a profession don't you think?

You are an even bigger fool than I thought if you think anyone will learn a lesson from this. Less than 5 years after the mother of all crashes and google is at $500. Yeah people learn their lessons.

You are neither an optimist or a realist or pessimist. You are paranoid. Big difference.

Nothing against the realtors I've used on my three homesales except the fact that they didn't deserve the money I paid them for the little work they did. nice people though.

my problem is with the real estate profession, and also lying cheating whores who'll do and say anything who've polluted the profession.

We no longer need realtors. Period. Or buggy whip salesmen, or travel agents, or elevator operators.

Careers die, and 'realtor' is going bye-bye. And they dug their own grave with their lack of morals and greed.

I hope the good ones, the nice ones, the honest ones and the moral ones find good honest moral work.

now back to the question HP'ers - are you an optimist or a pessimist in general - I want to know

I'm generally a pessimist, skeptic and contrarian. But I try very hard to be unemotional and pragmatic when making decisions and drawing conclusions.

I like to question everything and that's what made me question the merits of real estate as an 'investment'. When real estate prices rose I tried to determine if the increases were sensible and supported by fundamental value. I found that they were not.

So it was my natural pessimism that made me skeptical about the housing 'boom' but it is the analytical realist side of me that ultimately drew the conclusion supported by fact.

I think that's the way it should be. Everyone is going to have a knee-jerk reaction but you should make sure not to let emotion get involved when making decisions and drawing conclusions.

Oh yeah: nuance.

Someting about me.

I am the class clown and choose to be happy. Our emotions are the one thing we can always choose and control!

I control what I can in my little world, plan for the worst, and hope I am wrong.

As for the big pic, I am not very optimistic, and I realize I am not a participant, just a bystander.

I might also add that I am grateful for what I have created for myself.(:

I'm an optimistic realist, though realisticly, I don't see much to be optimistic about nowadays, not with the blood-lusting jews applying the death grip to America.

I am very pessimistic about the future of housing, our economy, the environment, and the wisdom of Americans. I am also very optimistic that I can take actions today and plan for the worst in ways that will help my family to live comfortably in the future. Therefore I would consider myself a pessimist/optimist. Most people I know respond with the classic phrase “so what if this happens there’s nothing that you can do about it anyway so why worry.” Theses people are so pessimistic about their ability to cope with a gloomy future and laziness to act that they comfort themselves with great optimism. They make up the majority of people I know, I call them the optimist/pessimists. They are all in debt over their heads, could not define inflation, slept through economics, believe that the government will save them and consider themselves sane.

I am generally an optimist. BUt remember when that glass is half full alot of it is backwash.

Definitely an incorrigble optimist in my personal life - I do slightly risky things like ride a motorbike, (learn to ) fly a light plane, trade in the equities market.

But I'm turning into a misanthrope and a pessimist about hom sap, particularly western hom sap nowadays. There's something in the wind- must be how a Decline of Empire ( Asimov - Foundation Series) feels like.

The rising Empires - China, India still seem raw at the edge about tolerance, mutuality of respect, liberty, fraternity, equality of opportunity. One is still quite totalitarian. The other could easily slip into totalitarianism. So there are lots of grounds for pessimism about hom. sap. as a whole.

The glass was designed to be twice as large as it should be.

OK, lame attempt at humor...

I'm a pessimist who's optimistic about the future, becasue I believe by being prepared I'll be OK.

Stevie Boy,

You can be as prepared as you want, but what happens when the money you save becomes worthless and the government confiscates your precious metals and other assets? You will be in the same boat as the FB's
