More than 1,200 people were arrested in meatpacking plants in six states during raids that federal officials said amounted to the largest-ever workplace crackdown on illegal immigration.
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Wednesday the investigation uncovered a "disturbing front" in the war against illegal immigration, in which illegal immigrants are using the identities of U.S. citizens to obtain jobs.
"Violations of our immigration laws and privacy rights often go hand in hand," he said. "Enforcement actions like this one protect the privacy rights of innocent Americans while striking a blow against illegal immigration."
The raids at Swift & Co. plants across the country resulted in 1,282 arrests, including 1,217 on immigration charges and 65 on criminal charges such as identity theft. Chertoff said the investigation is continuing into several groups that may have sold identity documents to illegal immigrants.
The arrested workers were from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Peru, Laos, Sudan, Ethiopia and other countries.

WASHINGTON – While the military "quagmire" in Iraq was said to tip the scales of power in the U.S. midterm elections, most Americans have no idea more of their fellow citizens – men, women and children – were murdered this year by illegal aliens than the combined death toll of U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan since those military campaigns began.
- Total U.S. troop deaths in Iraq as of last week were reported at 2,863.
- 12 Americans are murdered by illegal aliens EVERY DAY
- This translates to 4,380 Americans murdered annually by illegal aliens. That's 21,900 since Sept. 11, 2001.
- 13 are killed by drunk illegal alien drivers EVER DAY– for another annual death toll of 4,745. That's 23,725 since Sept. 11, 2001.
- The 55,322 illegal aliens studied represented a total of 459,614 arrests – some eight arrests per illegal alien;
- Their arrests represented a total of about 700,000 criminal offenses – some 13 offenses per illegal alien;
- 36 percent had been arrested at least five times before.
-Eight American children are victims of sexual abuse by illegal aliens every day – a total of 2,920 annually.
Total U.S. troop deaths in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan during the five years of the Afghan campaign are currently at 289, according to the Department of Defense.
But the carnage wrought by illegal alien murderers represents only a fraction of the pool of blood spilled by American citizens as a result of an open border and un-enforced immigration laws.

As the number of illegal aliens in the U.S. increases, so does the number of American victims.
According to Edwin Rubenstien, president of ESR Research Economic Consultants, in Indianapolis in 1980, federal and state correctional facilities held fewer than 9,000 criminal aliens. But at the end of 2003, approximately 267,000 illegal aliens were incarcerated in all U.S. jails and prisons.
While the federal government doesn't track illegal alien murders, illegal alien rapes or illegal alien drunk driving deaths, it has studied illegal aliens incarcerated in U.S. prisons.
Though no federal statistics are kept on murders or any other crimes committed by illegal aliens, a number of groups have produced estimates based on data collected from prisons, news reports and independent research.
"While the vast majority of illegal aliens are decent people who work hard and are only trying to make a better life for themselves and their families, (something you or I would probably do if we were in their place), it is also a fact that a disproportionately high percentage of illegal aliens are criminals and sexual predators," states Peter Wagner, author of a new report called "The Dark Side of Illegal Immigration." "That is part of the dark side of illegal immigration and when we allow the 'good' in we get the 'bad' along with them. The question is, how much 'bad' is acceptable and at what price?"
One reason there are so many illegals is that the legal immigration system is completely disfunctional. It is almost impossible to legally immigrate to the U.S. unless you have a close family connection. Even then, the wait is years or even decades, if you are from a country like Mexico or India. Same goes for employment based Green Cards. You can verify this on the State Department's monthly Visa bulletin posted on their website.
The system does need to be restructured to allow the orderly immigration of individuals into the U.S. whose skills may be in short supply, along with an end to the so-called family-based system, which requires no skills, has no educational or financial criteria and rewards nothing except your DNA.
There also needs to be temporary worker program that reliably allows workers to cross the border for seasonal jobs without the fear that if they go home, they will never be allowed in again. As it stands right now, the growing season is over before most farmers can legally import their labor. Or maybe you'd prefer to pick your own lettuce?
What good does it do to villify and de-humanize an entire group of people who by and large, only want to feed their families?
I'm all for controlling the border, not closing it. I would make a notable exception for Mexicans, who should enjoy the same rights as Native Americans to cross the U.S. border at will, and for the same reasons. They are for the most part, indigenous people and much of the U.S. including the entire Southwest, morally belongs to them since it was stolen by the U.S. government.
The way I see it, they are just taking it back one Mexican at a time.

Everyone wanting to make an impact as an individual should call their local sheriff, ask if he has a task force set up with ICE (no jurisdiction to arrest without an ICE guy on site) and start asking hard questions as to how many are in your county, how many are being deported, why aren't they just rounding them up at the local Mexislave depot.
Does everyone have a local Mexislave depot where they congregate, advertising themselves as day labor for hire? We certainly do in our county. Someone burned down their little cantina, what a hoot! They still gather there in front of it, though, because they live in the trailer park behind it.
There are a handful of cities across the country that are enacting local ordinances to arrest employers and landlords. This problem can easily be shut down at the local level. Start asking your local politicians why they don't have and enforce these laws.
Put out some bandit signs along the highway saying that you don't want illegals in your county, preferably near the Mexislave depot. Put a sign out that says your sheriff won't arrest illegals.
We need to raise the consciousness of our local communities. And point out to females the crime aspect of illegals. My wife once said Humans are the oddest animals on the planet. We possess all the attributes of every animal, we are the most parasitical animal on the planet. We love to judge without walking in another's shoes. I would marry a minority women if I was in love with one but I met and married young to a Canadian woman. Over the course of our marriage I had many black, asian women come on to me and if I had been single would have dated and if we hit it off, married them, but am already married.
No, we don't have kids. If we decided to adopt we would choose to adopt any underpriveledged kid, white, asian, black, mexican, biracial, but we like being CHILD-FREE, has nothing to do with race.
As far as my family, my nephew married a Mexican and has a son, my cousins married an asian and blacks, my niece married a Mexican, so you can see our family isn't racist and has no issues with biracial families.
There was a time when no self-respecting (as they called themselves) Anglo would marry a Scott or an Irishman or a German or an Italian or a Pole, the so called "white race" isn't monolithic or pure. Go back into your gene pool and you'll probably find you are not pure caucasian either.
