BREAKING: iamfacingforeclosure.com is quiet and locked, rumors now floating that Casey Serin has been arrested

His last post was Monday the 18th at 8:41pm, and his website is now locked - no new comments or postings.

My only question would be- what took so long? The USA Today story alone should have had the feds calling the next day.

Casey has made himself the poster boy for mortgage fraud and flipping failure. He has a price to pay - bankruptcy, the IRS, jail time, etc. It won't be fun. But fame = $$$ in America so I think he'll reinvent himself and come out smelling like a rose - and rich. Ah, the American dream...

HP'ers know I think the kid has a good heart, and just got in waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over his head, thanks to his $15,000 in "real estate guru" classes. He's just young and naive, and weren't you at 24? You just didn't have banks willing to lend you $2,200,000 with no questions asked.

Robert Kiyosaki, Carleton Sheets, Donald Trump, Learning Expo and the rest who seduced Casey are just as bad as the blood sucking and corrupt realtors, mortgage brokers, appraisers, developers and bankers who together conspired to create the biggest financial bubble in human history.

Naive and greedy people like Casey got caught when the music stopped, and their lives will now be ruined.

Anyone with news on Casey post here.

I am guessing that it was his wife's divorce attorney.

I think the guy is stupid and dishonest. And by judging him on his easy-way-out to make money, I think he is too lazy.

So he doesn't seem to have any good traits to be successful.

Looks the same to me- neither down, nor locked.

Take The Casey Serin quiz!

What has happened to Casey?

a) he has been arrested
b) his wife has left him
c) Tony Soprano's minions have had a little "chat" with him about his last "hard money loan"
d) he has fled back to Uzbekistan
f) he is listening to good legal advice
g) he is holding off posting for a couple of days to build suspense and traffic on his blog
h) he has decided to give up on the get-rich-quick schemes, has given up the blog, and is applying for IT jobs at large insurance companies (just kidding!!)

No posting from Casey since the 18th and no new comments allowed since then too

Sorry - I used to think that too, but his going to the scammer/pyramid scheme "Nouveau Riche University" last week convinced me he is a scamster through and through. He has learned nothing - I'm sure that at 50 he will be running "pigeon drops" and other scams on gullible people, after being in prison repeatedly.

Markus Arelius said...

The road to hell is paid with good intentions. The kid acknowledged his faults fully and openly, which is surprising and admirable. I know few 24 year olds that would not first blame everyone BUT themselves when shit in their life goes pear-shaped.

But where does the buck stop with respect to personal responsiblity?
You're over 18. You didn't read the fine print. Even if we assume that Carlton Sheets used his vampire-like seduction skills on the young man, it's no excuse for arrogant mistakes that other American taxpayers will likely have to clean up in the end.

Hard lesson. I feel bad for the guy.

That kid is a moron. he isn't capable of succesfully flipping a burger in ethiopia let alone flipping a house in Sac, and yes the RE school till the very end convinced me.
I so want to see Charlatan Cheats join him in Lompoc though.
Cool.

just from the few post i read on his website i have concluded that casey serin is an egomaniac.

if his attorney told him to shut his website down he would have made one last farewell post before doing so.

there is not much that would keep him from making that farewell post. it had to be something sudden and unexpected by him.

ok, The kid screwed up, big time, but he was just drinking the kool aid that so many others (who should have been older and wiser) were also drinking, and you know the Realtors, mortgage officers etc. where whispering "everyone is doing it" type crap in his ear, I don't know what his motivation in spreading all of it out for the world to see, but I CAN say that some of the people to whom I have sent the link to are finally beginning to believe that "something is very wrong with housing" because they see a real person who has gotten away with something that they did not think could happen, for that alone I am glad his blog existed. Two questions still plague me though, Why aren't good statistics/graphs enough for people to realize "something is terribly wrong"? and What the h&ll was his wife thinking???? as a wife I don't see how she didn't give some ultimatums a loooong time ago, any other ladies feel that way?

Metroplexual said...

I agree with michael.

Anonymous said...

I dunno, he hasn't listened to anyone's advice yet. So an attorney's advice would likely fall on deaf ears. How his wife let him even go on this last "Business Trip" is beyond me. But man, she could probably use a husband who doesn't act like a tool constantly.

Anonymous said...

Good point,

So how does someone decide to listen to the "get rich in real estate" speakers bureau, but entirely ignore attorney's, friends etc??? Is there a meth problem where casey lives?;-)

Businessmen go on business trips and their companies pay their salaries and expenses. Casey goes on business trips and he makes no income and pays for everything

Pretending to be a businessman is not being a businessman

But he won't be pretending when he's inmate #33128, and bankruptcy docket #329056, and IRS default notice #31185, and divorce court case #19784378

Michael is right, Casey is a such an egomaniac. Worse though he is living in fantasy land. An egomaniac in fantasy land is a bad combination. He needs to man up, put the fantasy of being a tycoon away for good. He also needs to take a look at why it is so important for him to be like Donald Trump. He wont though. He's too egomaniacal. Regardless of the housing boom/bust this kid would have found himself in the same situation elsewhere with someother type of scam trying to get rich quick.

What Casey didn't understand and now the IRS will help him with:

Say you bought your condo for $150,000 and sold it for $250,000 two weeks later. You made a $100,000 capital gain. But say you didn't hold the property for more than 12 months. That makes it a short-term capital gain.

You'll pay a federal rate of as much as 35%, not the 15% long-term capital gain that investors have been frothing about. Add a state tax, say 5%, and you now owe $40,000 in taxes on your sale.

If you buy and sell multiple properties over a short period of time, the IRS might consider you to be in the real estate "trade or business." That makes all your profits ordinary income, ineligible for capital-gains treatment. In addition, that will subject you to self-employment taxes, which drains another 15.3% out of your profits. Now, from your $100,000 gain, you've only cleared $44,700.

Add a 6% commission on the sale, $15,000, and now you're down to $35,700 ($44,700 less $15,000 = $29,700, plus the 40% tax savings on the $15,000 deductible commission). And, that's before other closing costs such as transfer taxes and legal fees.

You folks ought to forget about this clown.

My great grandparents had also come from the USSR during the first world war, however, everyone in my family had to work hard for their careers. Back then, Caseys would be disowned because they'd bring shame to the household.

This kid does not represent the hard working Americans of Slavic descent who worked to build this country during the world wars and cold war. He's a part of the whole bling bling b.s. culture of today. Screw him.

Anonymous said...

No, Casey is not "naive" nor was he a "victim of circumstance".

Casey is stupid. Pure and simple. Compounded by the fact that he is also VERY lazy and looks for the easiest way to coast through life with minimal effort.

And by the way folks, he spent $30,000 on real estate seminars, not $15,000.

When I was 24, I had just finished my masters degree in Electonics Engineering and I was hitting the pavement looking for work. So I don't want to hear about this "young kid at 24" crap. If he was 16, I might have let it slide. But 24? Give me a break.

"He's just young and naive, and weren't you at 24?"

No, at 24 I bought a house using a 30 year fixed loan, the payments to which I could easily afford. I was not alone, many of my friends did the same at around the same age. 24 year olds should not be naive.

"the kid has a good heart, and just got in waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over his head"

The man is lazy, stupid, and lacks character. Those three attributes have become inarguable.

One thing I never thought got enough attention was how terrible of a programmer he must have been to only be making 35K as a web developer in California.

"What has happened to Casey?"

This like everything else is most likely just a ploy to drive up adsense or part of a placement scam.

This guy isn't young and dumb. My guess is he's greedy and manipulative. If he had been gambling with his own money (which someone like this never does) it would be tough noogies and people would look at him like he was an idiot. He was smart enough to recognize that in today's environment he could borrow someone else's money to make these wild bets with. I don't feel sorry for him and the people who do this and who enable people like this should be raked over the coals. An environment that shows any sort of pity for someone like this is only going to perpetuate a new crop of grifters down the road (IMHO). This guy should be made to work to repay every last cent even if it means till the day he drops. The banks that enabled this scenario to play out should be forced to carry these loser mortgages on their own books, hold an amount in their reserve account equal to what he owes each month and carry it on their sheets for as long as it takes Mr. Serin to pay it off, even if it is 60 years or more. I guarantee that would get their attention and they would start scrutinizing these deals again.

Don't know why Keith is such a fan of this guy. I guess all the inexperienced realtors who have good hearts and believed and repeated the canned Lereah talking points deserve a big break also. Maybe they and Casey are the real victims here.

NOT!!

He didn't get handed money "no questions asked." He was asked many questions and he blatently lied on all of them and got handed money. Big difference.

Good heart + millions of $ fraud = jail time. Anyway, what's so freakin' good about his heart? He wanted money. He lied to get money. Just because he's too stupid to know better doesn't alleviate any of his responsibility. Stupid people don't get a pass. That's why dumb criminals don't get sympathy--they get jail. See example below.

Inmate Includes Own Name In Bomb, Anthrax Threats
If you’re going to send bomb and anthrax threats to the FBI and Secret Service, don’t include any personally-identifiable information, such as your full name and inmate number. A prison inmate in New York pled guilty July 25 to doing just that.

Thirty-year-old Donald Ray Bilby pled guilty in U.S. District Court in Trenton, New Jersey, to one count of false information and hoaxes after he sent five letters to authorities demanding that they deposit $20,000 into his county jail inmate account because he needed money to post bail, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

“I think it’s fair to say we were not dealing with a great criminal mind here,” U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie said in a statement.

Bilby signed every single letter using his full name and inserted his inmate number below his signature. One letter to the FBI included demands for money, a piece of paper marked “anthrax,” and a white powdery substance that turned out not to be harmful.

He faces up to five years in the slammer after he finishes serving a sentence for auto theft.

Couple of observations:

1. NO to the 24 question
2. Serin has a life long history of criminal activity.
3. He deserves whatever justice the law can lay upon his narrow shoulders.
4. I suspect someone got a hold of him upon his return- law enforcement, relatives, loan sharks.
5. I agree with Robert Cote- his 15 minutes expired about 10 minutes ago.
6. I will guess there will be an answer to this within 48 hours.
7. Keith, your hatred of America is what blinds you into being sympathetic towards criminals like Serin.

naive - wrong
lazy - wrong
unintelligent - wrong

More like:
delusions of grandeur
gambler's mentality
obsessive/compulsive
charismatic/manipulative
pathological liar

My armchair analysis is that Keith's friend is an antisocial psychopath. Not to excuse anything, but he needs therapy. The most interesting aspect of all this is his admitting to the fraud. Coming clean may fit in with the above behaviors, especially as he was boxed in. I don't think this is as simple as young/lazy/stupid victim of infomercials, etc. Are there any psychologists out there who could weigh in?

I agree that it was stupid for Casey to put himself out there as a punching bag for all the "haters" as he calls them, and as a bullseye target for the feds.

I am also fairly sure that when these stated income loans are filled out, most of the borrowers don't have a clue for what the penalties are (civil and criminal) for getting caught in a lie.

I just read today that 90% of stated income loans have the incomes exaggerated by 5% or more, and about 60% have the incomes inflated by 50% or more. This was done by comparing borrowers' loan applications with their tax returns.

I am sure that Casey, like many other people who took these loans, looked around and decided that since he hadn't heard of anyone getting arrested for lying about their incomes, it wasn't a big deal. Just like everyone is driving on the highway well above the speed limit, increasing the danger to themselves and the people around them, but nobody is getting pulled over by the cops.

And like most people who lie about their incomes, they figure it's okay because they have every intention of making good on the payments.

Until they can't make the payments.

And just as cascading snow on a mountain slope turns into an avalanche, the increasing defaults on these loans are turning the situation into one that cannot be ignored any longer.

Casey has been called every name in the book. He has been the "poster child" for how the lending system has gone crazy. And he was crazy for going public about it.

But I'm glad he did go public with it, because putting a human face to the situation has stirred up a lot of emotions and makes people want to act, to make things right again.

Anonymous said...

To clarify: Casey *is* lazy in the get-rich-quick sense, yet he does seem to be willing to work hard. He *is* stupid in the sense of being foolhardy, but he's reasonably articulate and had the requisite intelligence to buy a house (hmm...that doesn't count for much around here, I know). He *is* naive in falling for get-rich-quick schemes, but had plenty of guile when it came to fabricating loan applications.
I haven't exactly scrutinized his blog, but didn't you pick up on his overwork, internet addiction (or was that a fake HP post?) etc.? Yes, any normal person might attend and be dazzled by a seminar, have credit problems, or try filpping houses, but to keep trying to make "deals" *after* realizing your goose is cooked? There are things about this guy's behavior that strike me as a little extreme, that's all. Mostly just wanted to discuss the phenomenon from another angle, as the obvious have been flogged enough.

She cut him off.

Would that Sacramento database on arrests include Federal arrests? It is updated real time? I'm really curious now - thanks for this site so we can continue our CaseyJailWatch unabated.

"back to reality". Maybe that is a hint that this was a bunch of BS.

Wifey Galina (or is Galena) is going to be very upset. Soooo busted!

Oh - yet another site I can visit for my "Casey Fix."

Didn't realize how much I enjoyed reading the posts and comments of all us "haters." We are a great community.

Love that clown guy
Love the trailer guys
Love sputnik

"Haters" Rock!

In the meantime, my guess is that Casey's getting ready to do an appearance on Larry King, Dateline or 60 minutes.... Or, perhaps, he's going to go on Oprah, jump on the couch and scream "I LOVE SWEET DEALS!"

Keep it real guys.

I'll be back

I can not believe that we have reached the point where some kid can borrow $2.2M . Does anyone remember how difficult is was to borrow money, say, 15 years ago?

In 90 I wanted to buy a $189K house in Livermore. I had a $50K/yr job, no debts, good credit and $25K to use as a down payment. They made me give them 6 months worth of bank statements to prove that I did not borrow any of the down payment and they STILL refused me the loan. Said I could have used $30K for the down payment but they would not let me borrow the extra $5k from relations.

If credit goes back to being anywhere near that hard to get then the house "flippers" of today will be doing no better than burger flippers.

NEWS FLASH
NEWS FLASH
NEWS FLASH

There is a low speed chase on 1-5 south of Sacramento - a white bronco is involved. Casey's roommate from his "college" courses last week is driving while Casey's in the back seat holding a jamba juice and talking to his wife.

Chasing Casey are Sputnik, Homey, the Trailer Park Guys, plus those reporters from USA Today....

The chase will end promptly at 5:55 a.m. when Casey and his laptop will enter a starbucks with WiFi so that he can report back to everyone his "early riser" success for the morning.

Following his blog update, he will be heading to another "guru" seminar called "you are so screwed, but give me $1,200 for the day and I'll make you smile."

Following the seminar he'll head to the local mall where he'll buy his wife some nice jewelery for Christmas. Of course he'll be using his overdrawn bank ATM/debit card racking up yet another $36 bank fee.

The remainder of his day will be spent "bird dogging" sweet deals for his "rich dad" while begging his "boss" Chris for a paycheck.

Once the day has ended, he'll head out to "Get Cash Now" and get himself a sweet deal loan at 52% interest.

Here Sputnik... here kitty kitty kitty.... I got some fishy treats for you.

Maybe his fingers are broken or worse he got wacked. He is swimming with loan sharks. 4500@36% and 10% fee in 6mo. which make it almost 60% interest. He blow it all on another expensive sucker's education.

Casey better get used to the idea that he's gonna be the internet's next Bob Goatse.

I think you all forget that Casey got cash out,(under the table cash back ), when he purchased some of most those properties .
So the sellers and agents in those cases were party to a crime against the lenders with Casey .
I think this case goes beyond just a young punk who resorted to liar loans to purchase property .The RE agent had to agree to inflate the appraisal etc etc , the sellers gave him money outside of lenders knowledge .

Cool! Now we can see ALL of the posts and not the censored CS version.

Losing his homes, credit and now his internet traffic to other sites?

My fascination with this guy is not a single fiber in his body has a clue of right from wrong.

If his generation can't tell right from wrong without blogging it, then God help us all.

Sheriff Databses inlclude felony suspects. Any agency - local police, FBI, ATF can placed booked criminals in a Sheriff facility.

Most facilities are located near courthouses so if a suspect is going to appear, they are held close by for obvious reasons.

I doubt that he would be booked but am almost sure that someone by now is investigating whether he knows it or nor.

DA's love high profile cases where the defendent has no money for a defense. Makes for an even playing field.

It wouldn't surprise that this kid shows back up with more idiotic postings.

We'll see

I CAN'T WAIT TIL CASEY'S COURT DATE FOR FILING BANKRUPTCY. I'M GOING TO APPEAR WITH ALL THE EVIDENCE THAT HE'S PRESENTED THAT HE LIED ABOUT HIS INCOME JUST TO MAKE SURE HE CAN'T DISCHARGE HIS DEBT.

THAT WAY, HE CAN KEEP ME ENTERTAINED WITH HIS NEW BLOG:

He is not naive, lock him up for 20 years, looks like fudge packer anyway!

Right now, he is in the prison infirmary, getting emergency surgery for rectal damage.

Apparently, he was gangraped by his cellblock. They have a thing for effeminate young blonde men.

His last words were "That thing isn't going to fit in there.... OUCH... TAKE IT OUT!!!!! AWWwwwwww..."

I remember those days too Tom. I think it was more difficult in early 90's when the S&L scandle was fresh. In 1995, bought a condo in Castro Valley's Mesa Verde. I need a "gift letter" for $4,000 - remember those? Back then, banks didnt want to see any unexplained deposits.

Agree with another poster that loan sharks handle things differently than banks do. Casey should know this - although, if he's lying on loan docs, who knows?

Is Casey the OJ Simpson of the real estate bubble? I say he's typical not atypical of most Americans today.
40 years of the counter culture produced this mess. I say hang Mick Jagger!

I think he lost his Google ads. They're gone. That may be why he's been so depressed.

Casey Serin's blog is so fcuking entertaining. So much better than this blog. All the comments berate him and flog him like he was Jesus in a Mel Gibson flick and he never defends himself, not once, unlike you Keith.

Thanks for the redirect.

We love you Casey.

Casey's not in jail, he's been doing blogging, and I saw him speaking on Dec 21 at a small meeting on behalf of the RE college he attended.
