George Bush spent $1 Trillion+ of your money on this disaster, and counting. Hundreds of thousands have died, and more on the way. Is there some idiot out there still defends this gross corruption and incompetence?
At least David Lereah hasn't killed anyone, and the trillions to be lost because of him will be lost by people who in the end have only themselves to blame. Yes, Bush screwed up so bad that he even makes David Lereah look good by comparison.
What's interesting is that Karl Rove is allowing (or can't stop) the verdict being read on Sunday. Because the attention and violence that'll cause right before the election is just terrible stage management by the GOP.
They think sentencing Saddam to death will be seen by US voters as a great thing, validating their Iraq policy. What they didn't understand is that no matter the verdict, civil war violence will immediately spin out of control.

An editorial scheduled to appear on Monday in Army Times, Air Force Times, Navy Times and Marine Corps Times, calls for the resignation of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld:
Rumsfeld has lost credibility with the uniformed leadership, with the troops, with Congress and with the public at large. His strategy has failed, and his ability to lead is compromised. And although the blame for our failures in Iraq rests with the secretary, it will be the troops who bear its brunt.
This is not about the midterm elections. Regardless of which party wins Nov. 7, the time has come, Mr. President, to face the hard bruising truth:
Donald Rumsfeld must go.
The announcement of a verdict is expected to set off further bloodshed, underscoring the trial's failure to bring reconciliation to a country fractured ever deeper along sectarian lines.
Many of Saddam's fellow Sunni Arabs, along with some Shiites and Kurds, are predicting a firestorm if the ex-president is sentenced to death. On the other hand, majority Shiites, who were persecuted under Saddam but now dominate the government, are likely to be enraged if he escapes the gallows.

He scheduled it for sunday thinking it would be a good "closure" moment on the eve of the election.
But, oh, my, how he's misjudged it. Like everything else to do with Iraq.
Tomorrow is Guy Fawkes night here in London, with fireworks, bonfires and they celebrate the guy who almost blew up parliament hundreds of years ago.
Sunday night might be celebrated as Saddam Night for hundreds of years in Iraq.

Yes there is. George Bush still insists that the US "stay the course" in Iraq.
Is this how it will end? Will the US be bled dry by the housing crash combined with the multi-trillion-dollar disaster in Iraq?
If this is to be the case, then Level 5 will be the only outcome: Every person in the US dies a horrific death in crazed civil war free-for-all.

I watched parts of the trial and I wasn't impressed because the US did as much or more evil during the trial than Saddamm ever did. Thus, US actions didn't morally refut Saddamm's argument that "he had the moral right to do what he did as president-- because Bush was taking the same liberties."
If Saddamm gets death or life imprisonment, it only begs the question: "why doesn't Bush get death or life imprisonment for his actions."
More specifically: either way, the US loses because it failed to "take the moral high ground" and, instead, resorted to carpet bombing and torture.
Had the US stood behind human and economic rights, people would have had a reason for celebrating and Bush was too stupid to realize that people only celebrate hope, not fear!
Killing Saddamm won't bring peace to those who blame Mr. Bush for their losses.
For those who also forgot Mr. Hussein, you will be surprised to hear that his trial will officially end this Sunday, including a verdict, just two days before our election. WHAT A COINCIDENCE! Needless to say the White House is already positively frothing at the mouth over the perceived political juice this can give them. Press Secretary Tony Snow has already said that the verdict would "absolutely be a factor" in the US elections. He went on to say this was proof that the, "Iraqi government that has been doing what the president has said all along" and that this was a "benchmark moment." What a snow job.
Let's first deal with the incredibly ridiculous timing of this verdict. It was decided MONTHS ago, planned by our government to clearly try and affect the mid term elections. The court itself was set up by us, through the Coalition Provisional Authority. It has been reported that, "American influence...has been undeniably pervasive, with about 90 percent of the $145 million in annual costs for the court and associated investigations paid for by the United States Justice Department, and lawyers sent by Washington acting as advisers." Make no mistake about this America, we are in charge of this trial and we decided when to have the "verdict". No matter how much Mr. Snow wants to spin this moment, he cannot remove the obviously political nature of the timing of the verdict, which has not been affected despite the killing of 11 judges involved with the trial. Is there any doubt what the "verdict" will be?

"Failure in Iraq" is a cliche started by the New York Times to bash Bush.
Iraq is not going to look like Switzerland no matter how many troops we send there or how much aid money is given.
Since Iraq is not an Athenian Democracy, it must be a failure.
Iraq is what happens when you let three different group of Muslims try to come together and form a government.
Maybe it should be two or three separate countries.

I predict that Saddam and Bubba (Clinton) will go on a world-wide book tour in 18 months. Both will be flogging books about how tough it was adjusting to life as deposed leaders. Saddam will be smarting over Iraq, and Billy Boy will be rubbing his bruises after Hillary kicks him to the curb next Summer.
Saddam will learn enough English to become a regular talking head on MSNBC.

What nonsense? How can there be a trial on Kurdistan massacres and human rights record when the purpose of the conflict and arrest of Hussein was the alledged creation and proliferation of WMD and marketing them through the underworld to international terrorists?
I mean c'mon, General Suharto of Indonesia isn't exactly facing the Hague on the east Timor genocide which, BTW, was an uninstigated ethnic cleansing whereas Kurdistan could have been plausible "excess force" against rebellion/insurrection. Suharto's current trial is on money laundering. So if being a tin pot, Stalinistic dictator was a crime then the international court would never be able to keep up with its dockets.

It seems that every time mass chaos is expected, it never materializes. Y2k, OJ verdict, Saddam. The talking heads think violence levels in Iraq are because of our election but conveniently forget about Ramadan. It's easy enough for someone who's been there to tell you uhhhh... it's Ramadan .... same as last year and the year before that.
