A time capsule of the greatest financial mania in the history of mankind, told in real-time by regular folks and patriots. May future generations better understand the madness of crowds, and how power and money corrupt.

That's my house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the one in the picture, hands down
No brainer...the greater Phoenix metro area is tops in hideous houses.
The housing industry in AZ puts out a product that's comparable to the unsightly junk produced by US automakers.
Tasteless, inelegant and repulsive architectural design is the norm there.
But good enought for the genetic mutants and hybrid mediocrities who live in that sweaty shithole posing as a city.
You should see the sh*tboxes that Hunter Homes is building in Madison County, Alabama. Much much worse that the one pictured.
is that a house or a garage on steroids?
Who thought pink stucco looked good?
the ugliest houses are in the converted farm fields southwest of chicago, like plainfield, oswego, montgomery, etc. every house is the same with either beige vinyl siding or white vinyl siding and fake black shutters. just waiting for a tornado to clear them off their slabs. a close second is the crappy bungalows on the south side of chicago, some even with their asphalt shingles ON THE SIDES OF THE HOUSE !
phoenix is third, which is where the pictured house is. not only is that house hideous, but there are probably 200,000 of them exactly like that in phoenix, of which about 50,000 are for sale.

I remember trying to go to Alabama once upon a time, but it was closed.
It looks empty. Is that what they mean by "desertification"?
i thought the vast see of vinyl siding in st louis was bad. columbus, mo created a city law that banned vinyl siding.
Jacksonville Florida has the ugliest collection of houses that I have ever seen personally, and I have been to every major city in the US. Thousands upon thousands of one story, concrete block houses with lean-to carports and no siding at all (paint directly on the concrete block). Most of them have either gabled roofs with composit asphalt shingles or flat/sloped gravel roofs. Stucco is considered very nice here and brick is considered fantastic. The current average sale price for these cracker jack S boxes is $260k, which is six times the average income of local famalies.
disgorge, you can see the land shortage in the background. No wonder they pack them in so tight. Breeheehee!!
I personally vote for the entire east coast of Florida--it's all one big fantasy beach playground for northern retirees. The pink stucco, the lawyer foyers, the little cubby in the garage for the golf cart--all tastefully rendered and (of course) engineered to withstand Cat 4 hurricanes (not).
Albuquerque, NM owns the patent for ugly stucco sh_tboxes.
The Modern US Housing industry nationwide followed by the growing ghettos of old homes nationwide.
Traveling around the USA and Canada I have to say very few places have beautiful homes. Every place has a handful of historic or nice homes, but most places have hideous homes with no character or charm. Even modern homes in Europe fall into the character-less trap.
Add to that all the strip malls and you get coyote ugly.
I grew up in California and find most of those 1960-2006 built homes ugly. There are some very ranch style homes, but in general most are just ugly.
Florida? I found most of them ugly too! Only the homes built before 1960 have any character let alone built for the actual environment of Florida, off the ground for air circulation, porches, large windows etc.
Arizona? If they had instituted design guidelines like Santa Fe they could have a unique identity and architecture that is more suitable to arid, desert climates. They could have designed their cities like they do in Spain, wide streets with parks down the middle, covered arcades for their shopping districts, fountains, buildings with character.
So, I vote overwhelmingly that 60% or more of all homes built in the USA are just but ugly and don't think any one city or state has a monopoly any more.
That in the parlance of planners is a snout house. And it is ugly. Predomiantly ound in the Southwestern US, usually accompanied by high cement (see' ment) block walls. Ocasionally can be found with a cement pond.
Jim says Peachville Georgia, and the whole south!

Peachville Georgia and the whole south! Sorry, forgot the Tinyurl version:

gotta agree with david in jax, except ALL of FL is like that, not just jax. the entire tampa area burbs and exurbs are quite fugly...painted concrete is the norm, stucco was in nice hoods. i thoroughly enjoyed getstucco's name background, where did he go anyway?
on the other hand, all everyone does around here is complain about new construction...condo towers being ugly and ridiculous, suburban houses being ugly and/or mcmansions. i mean that suburbia video really opened my eyes, but i dont see any alternative for a growing population
How bout These monstrosities? (The page shows the ugliness. These tract builders are ruining small New England towns.)
I'd prefer the stucco one pictured on HP.
PHOENIX!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I noticed that too. But I also noticed that it was replaced with rotting wood after years of neglect caused by homeowners who no longer cared or couldn't afford to.
In my opinion, compared to Soviet designed grey concrete hi-rise apartment buildings where 50% of the people in eastern europe and the x-soviet republics STILL live, Phoenix is fucking beautiful.
But, I guess if your a fat ass American you got nothing better to do than complain!!
