When I originally found this site I thought it was a great find and would give me some place to look to find out the latest and greatest on the housing bubble. But the truth has reared its ugly head, this is not a housing bubble blog, it's whats up keiths ass today blog, oh jews again. There are much better places on the net to dicuss the complexity of all that is jew. This blog will never be taken seriously in regards to the housing bubble if that is you goal.

You can exchange any currency to buy oil. It doesn't explain why Japan, China etc. hold trillions in dollars. It's not to buy oil. The saudis would just recycle those dollars they get and buy euro or yen investments with them if they thought the dollar was crap. Those recycled dollars would mean there is no incremental demand for dollars to buy oil.
When the oil market was alot smaller, the dollar was alot stronger, back in the 70s.

I'm going to support you on this, I think that you had to come out and state your opposition to anti-semitism in order to refute any possible accusation that your tolerance of honica is in some way a tolerance of his views.
I think this thread shows that you tolerate honica's jibberish only in that you must do so in order to support free speech, an important element in this blog.
I would also like to think that you are tolerant of those who remain doubtful of many of your beliefs, such as your belief in evolution or your belief in the housing bubble.
But doubt is not the same as denial.
To 'deny' evolution is not the same as maintaining some openness to the possibility of an alternative.

I agree with a previous poster that the middle east is a hell hole.
I would be for getting the hell out right now if we took the money that we are currently spending in iraq and dedicate it to a national program to develop alternative energy sources. Imagine if we had spent hundreds of billions on research and development with the goal of reducing oil to a role of lubricants and as a minor source or energy.

It's really one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Evolution is one of the most thoroughly tested scientific theories we have. It's like doubting gravity. (Yes, gravity is "only a theory" and we don't understand it that well. Yet we can make incredibly accurate predictions with the theory of gravity. It's very correct on a fundamental level.)
Evolution doubters are fools and filled with too much mis-directed pride. You all just want to be "special". Well, consider yourself special because you were lucky enough to be born a sentient human.
A human who is the result of billions of years of evolution. A human who is the most advanced living creature that evolution has produced. Locals kasher the White House kitchen — and cater a Chanukah party
Once upon a season’s greetings, in the Reagan White House, the president of the United States hosted a small gathering to light a menorah. At the time, and for years afterward, guests were offered cake and cookies on plastic dishes, together with some beverages.
As time went by, the White House annual Chanukah get-together grew, and so did the food service accompanying it. While some kosher food was brought in from the outside, those strict about observing dietary laws still had cause for complaint.
Last year, the traditional Chanukah party was a bit less traditional, with non-kosher food as the main offering and a separate kosher buffet on the side. Confusion reigned. Guests grumbled that this was hardly the way to treat "Jewish friends of the White House."
Word got back to first lady Laura Bush. She consulted with the president and announced that she wanted to serve kosher food to everyone on the appropriate occasions.
Rabbi Levi Shem-Tov, of the American Friends of Chabad in Washington, was said to be partially responsible for her decision. A few weeks ago, he met with her on a different issue. When the subject of kosher food was raised, Bush told him she wanted the White House kitchen kashered for this year’s Chanukah party, which was held, a few weeks early, Tuesday evening.
"The first lady said if the function is kosher, it makes her guests comfortable, and that makes it more comfortable for her if all her guests …eat the same food. This was a decision she made herself," said Shem-Tov, noting that he deeply appreciated her initiative.
With more than 500 guests expected, this year’s food choices went far beyond cookies and small cakes. The White House staff got right to work, calling for bids from kosher caterers. The winner was Betty’s Caterers in Philadelphia, whose owner, Peter Ostler, consulted the Philadelphia Vaad and then got in touch with the coordinator of kosher certification at the Rabbinical Council of Bergen County, Rabbi Binyomin Taub.
Taub partnered Betty’s with Gary Rubin’s Petak Caterers in Fair Lawn, under Rabbinical Council of Bergen County certification, and they were all given the White House go-ahead. Says Taub, "Because guests included ultra-Orthodox educators from around the country, no mistakes or shortcuts could be tolerated, and we had to be scrupulous." Shem-Tov says that Taub was very helpful to the White House staff.
Ostler and Rubin began planning the menu and logistics. A week before the event, Taub drove down to the White House to explain to Chef Chris Comerford and the White House usher exactly what would happen when his kashering crew showed up.
He explained about kosher beverages and told them how to read product labels and what to look out for (like bugs in the salad). He also helped them set up a system to feed people in the White House on "K-Day," so that no one who was hungry would notice the interruption. He and the staff even decided where hand-washing stations could be set up for those who ritually wash their hands before eating bread.
"As excited as we were to be doing the job, it seemed to me that the White House was even more excited to have it done. This was a historic first, and it was clear the first lady wanted it to be perfect," Taub told The Jewish Standard.
The kashrut crew rented a kitchen in a Philadelphia temple for pre-prepping, and chefs from Petak’s and Betty’s prepared ingredients and dishes that would get their final "cook-through" at the White House.
On Monday afternoon, two trucks loaded with double-sealed platters — and carrying Petak proprietor Rubin and mashgiach Rabbi Mendel Minkowitz, joined later by Rabbi Hillel Baron from Lubavitch of Howard County and a consultant on kosher supervision — set out on their journey. They arrived at the White House at 7:30 p.m. and waited while Minkowitz made sure nothing had happened to the food and that the Secret Service had not broken any of the kashrut seals.
Once in the White House kitchen, they were surprised at the exceptional cleaning job done by Chef Comerford and her staff — but there nevertheless remained some greasy nooks and crannies that the staff had missed. "We taught them a few new tricks," said the rabbi.
No blowtorches or propane tanks could be used in the kashering process. The job involved boiling water, lots of scrubbing, high heat, aluminum foil and butcher paper, packing tape, and kosher cutting boards. It took about three hours on Monday morning and was interrupted once, when Bush made a surprise visit because she wanted to watch the actual kashering.
Says Taub, "She was beaming and thanked everyone for their hard work. I couldn’t hear what she was saying because I was pouring boiling water on the stainless counters, but when she asked for a photo op, I grabbed my jacket and that’s how we all landed on the front pages of the newspapers.
"Later she came over and thanked me personally for the special effort — and there was no problem about shaking hands. We didn’t. We were told she knew the rules on that, too."
Afterwards, the first lady introduced the rabbi to the president. "He thanked me and told me he’d heard lots of compliments about me and our caterers. I told him that I felt our nation was privileged to have as its president a man who proudly respects his Jewish friends and their customs — and I wished them both a happy new year."
As for the guests who could now take the kashrut in the White House for granted, it was all about the food. Betty’s and Petak’s prepared mountains of goodies and delicacies that, as they say in the business, moved.
The party was held in the East Room and the State Dining Room. To add Chanukah spirit to the room, Rubin says, "We put giant chocolate dreidels on the tables, draped in lime green. We sprinkled the tabletops with silver foil-wrapped Chanukah gelt, and presented our food buffet-style."
First to disappear were more than 1,500 latkes in two flavors — traditional potato and sweet apple latkes, fried up by the boys from Petak’s and served with homemade cinnamon-spiced applesauce. No sour cream here — not even "fake."
Betty’s produced the feather-light sufganiot (filled doughnuts) from jelly to custard to chocolate, and the president clearly enjoyed them, Taub said. Other traditional foods included finger cakes and pastries, smoked salmon, and mini-stuffed cabbage. The pieces de resistance were the paillettes of chateaubriand (eye of the rib) served in white horseradish sauce with homemade onion rings and steamed assorted California vegetables — baby carrots, baby bok choy, shiitake mushrooms, and baby yellow beets in their own steamy juices (no broccoli in the mix). For the fish-eaters, there was wild bass crusted with black and white sesame seeds. Salad was an orange and avocado pomegranate salad with pomegranate vinaigrette.
The president gave his Chanukah speech, a menorah brought from Cleveland was lit, some songs were sung, and — not surprising — a good time was had by all.

In the 1890s, as Eastern European Jews poured into the tenements of New York’s Lower East Side, Chicago’s Maxwell Street area and similar neighborhoods of America’s cities, they faced great pressure from native-born Americans—most of whom were associated with the Republican Party—to abandon their ethnic loyalties and become "real Americans." Yet, when it was expedient, the Republicans—like the Democrats--were willing to appeal to Jewish voters on ethnic grounds. Today, we recognize that there is no conflict between being a proud Jew and a patriotic American. In the 1890’s, this fact was still contested ground.
In late October, 1899, the Lower East Side was flooded with handbills, printed in Yiddish, signed by "Jewish Members of the Republican State Committee." The flyers urged Jewish voters to cast their ballots for gubernatorial candidate Theodore Roosevelt, who the year before had led his Rough Riders in a courageous charge up San Juan Hill in Santiago, Cuba, during the Spanish-American War. The Rough Riders’ victory, combined with other American triumphs at sea and on land, led Spain to surrender her empire in Cuba and the Philippines.
The Yiddish flyers bore the title, "WHO TAKES REVENGE FOR US?" It’s opening sentence made the answer clear: "Every respectable citizen, every good American and every true Jew, must and will vote for the Republican gubernatorial candidate—Theodore Roosevelt." In the symbolic calculus of American ethno-religious politics, America’s victory over Spain was revenge for Spanish mistreatment of its Jews four centuries earlier, and candidate Roosevelt was the Jews’ leading avenger.

He recommended them to the president [McKinley] for promotions, and sang their praises to the world."
The flyer warned that, in this election, Roosevelt—and the war itself—now stood in judgment before the people of New York. Jewish voters, they made clear, had but one choice:

Roosevelt failed to carry the Lower East Side and lost New York City as a whole by 60,000 votes, but won election by sweeping the rest of the state by 80,000 votes. A year later, he accepted the Republican nomination for vice president and succeeded to the presidency after McKinley’s assassination in 1901. In 1904, when Roosevelt ran successfully for re-election, the Republicans once again appealed to New York’s Yiddish-speaking voters to support the hero of San Juan Hill [see the accompanying illustration taken from the American Jewish Historical Society archives].
It is the genius of America’s two-party system that, to win elections, the Democrats and Republicans must both provide "big tents" to accommodate diverse constituencies of voters. As the Jewish Republican campaign for Roosevelt illustrated, despite the pressures they put on immigrants to assimilate into the "melting pot," the need to build successful coalitions has eliminated the apparent conflict between retaining one’s ethno-religious identity and being a patriot.
Claes Rosenvelt entered the cloth business in New York, and was married in 1682. He accumulated a fortune. He then changed his name to Nicholas Roosevelt. Of his four sons, Isaac died young. Nicholas married Sarah Solomons. Jacobus married Catherina Hardenburg.
The Roosevelts were not a fighting but a peace-loving people, devoted to trade. Isaac became a capitalist. He founded the Bank of New York in 1790."
The first Roosevelt came to America in 1649. His name was Claes Rosenfelt. He was a Jew. Nicholas, the son of Claes was the ancestor of both Franklin and Theodore. C., and Shearith Israel, New York.
THOMAS JEFFERSON was the first president to appoint a Jew to a Federal post. In 1801 he named Reuben Etting of Baltimore as US Marshall for Maryland.
JAMES MADISON was the first president to appoint a Jew to a diplomatic post. He sent Mordecai M. Noah to Tunis from 1813 to 1816.
MARTIN VAN BUREN was the first president to order an American consul to intervene on behalf of Jews abroad. In 1840 he instructed the U.S. consul in Alexandria, Egypt to use his good offices to protect the Jews of Damascus who were under attack because of a false blood ritual accusation.
JOHN TYLER was the first president to nominate a U.S. consul, Warder Cresson, to Palestine.
FRANKLIN PIERCE was the first and probably the only president whose name appears on the charter of a synagogue. Pierce signed the Act of Congress in 1857 that amended the laws of the District of Columbia to enable the incorporation of the city's first synagogue, the Washington Hebrew Congregation.
ABRAHAM LINCOLN was the first president to make it possible for rabbis to serve as military chaplains. He did this by signing the 1862 Act of Congress which changed the law that had previously barred all but Christian clergymen from the chaplainry. Lincoln was also the first, and happily the only, president who was called upon to revoke an official act of anti-Semitism by the U.S. government. It was Lincoln who cancelled General Ulysses S. Grant's "Order No. 11" expelling all Jews from Tennessee from the district controlled by his armies during the Civil War.
ULYSSES S. GRANT was the first president to attend a synagogue service while in office. When Adas Israel Congregation in Washington D.C. was dedicated in 1874, Grant and all members of his Cabinet were present.
RUTHERFORD B. HAYES was the first president to designate a Jewish ambassador for the stated purpose of fighting anti-Semitism. In 1870, he named Benjamin Peixotto Consul-General to Rumania. Hayes also was the first president to assure a civil service employee her right to work for the Federal government and yet observe the Sabbath.
THEODORE ROOSEVELT was the first United States President to appoint a Jew to a presidential cabinet. (Confederate President Jefferson Davis had appointed Judah P. Benjamin as his secretary of War in 1861.) In 1906, President Theodore Roosevelt named Oscar S. Straus Secretary of Commerce and Labor. Theodore Roosevelt was also the first president to contribute his own funds to a Jewish cause. In 1919, when he received the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts while president to settle the Russo-Japanese War, Roosevelt contributed part of his prize to the National Jewish Welfare Board.
WILLIAM HOWARD TAFT was the first president to attend a Seder while in office. In 1912, when he visited Providence, RI, he participated in the family Seder of Colonel Harry Cutler, first president of the National Jewish Welfare Board.
WOODROW WILSON was the first president to nominate a Jew, Louis Dembitz Brandeis, to the United States Supreme Court. Standing firm against great pressure to withdraw the nomination, Wilson insisted that he knew no one better qualified by judicial temperament as well as legal and social understanding. Wilson was also the first president to publicly endorse a national Jewish philanthropic campaign. In a letter to Jacob Schiff, on November 22, 1917, Wilson called for wide support of the United Jewish Relief Campaign, which was raising funds for European War relief.
WARREN HARDING was the first president to sign a Joint Congressional Resolution endorsing the Balfour Declaration and the Palestine Mandate supporting the establishment in Palestine of a national Jewish home for the Jewish people. The resolution was signed September 22, 1922.
CALVIN COOLIDGE was the first president to participate in the dedication of a Jewish community institution that was not a house of worship. On May 3, 1925, he helped dedicate the cornerstone of the Washington, D.C. Jewish Community center.
FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT was the first president to be given a Torah as a gift. He received a miniature Torah from Young Israel and another that had been rescued from a burning synagogue in Czechoslovakia. The Roosevelt administration's failure to expand the existing refuge quota system ensured that large numbers of Jews would ultimately become some of the Holocaust's six million victims. Fifty-six years after Roosevelt's death, the arguments continue over Roosevelt's response to the Holocaust.
HARRY S. TRUMAN, on May 14, 1948, just eleven minutes after Israel's proclamation of independence, was the first head of a government to announce to the press that "the United States recognizes the provisional government as the de facto authority of the new state of Israel." Truman was also the first U.S. president to receive a president of Israel at the White House - Chaim Weizman, in 1948 and an Ambassador from Israel - Eliahu Elat in 1948. With Israel staggering under the burdens of mass immigration in 1951-1952, president Truman obtained from Congress close to $140 million in loans and grants.
DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER was the first president to speak on television about American Jewry. It was on a network show in 1954 celebrating the 300th anniversary of the American Jewish community. He said that it was one of the enduring satisfactions of his life that he was privileged to lead the forces of the free world which finally crushed the brutal regime in Germany, freeing the remnant of Jews for a new life and hope in Israel.
JOHN F. KENNEDY named two Jews to his cabinet: Abraham Ribicoff as Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare, and Arthur Goldberg as Secretary of Labor. Kennedy was the only president for whom a national Jewish Award was named. The annual peace award of the Synagogue Council of America was re-named the John F. Kennedy Peace Award after his assassination in 1963.
JIMMY CARTER, in a number of impassioned speeches, stated his concern for human rights and stressed the right of Russian Jews to emigrate. He is credited with being the person responsible for the Camp David Accords.
GEORGE H. W. BUSH in 1985 as Vice president had played a personal role in “Operation Joshua," the airlift which brought 10,000 Jews out of Ethiopia directly to resettlement in Israel. In 1991, when Bush was president, American help played a critical role in "Operation Solomon," the escape of 14,000 more Ethiopian Jews. Most dramatically, Bush got to the U.N. to revoke its 1975 "Zionism is Racism" resolution.
BILL CLINTON appointed more Jews to his cabinet than all of the previous presidents combined, and put Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer, both first appointed to the federal bench by Jimmy Carter, on the Supreme Court.
GEORGE W. BUSH is the first president since Herbert Hoover who has no Jews in his cabinet at all and has appointed no Jews to the Federal bench.

enedikt Kohn (Great-Grandfather)
Benedikt Kohn, the great-grandfather of Senator John Kerry, was born about 1824 in southern Moravia. Benedikt was successful as a master brewer of beer.
In 1868, after the death of his first wife, he moved to Bennisch (today called Horni Benesov) and married Mathilde Frankel Kohn. Benedikt and Mathilde Kohn were two of the only 27 Jews living in Bennisch, which is listed as having a total population of 4,200, in 1880.
Soon after Benedikt died in 1876, Mathilde moved to Vienna with her children Ida (7), Friedrich "Fritz" (3) and Otto (newborn).
Fritz Kohn/Fred Kerry (Grandfather)
Fritz and Otto excelled in their studies in Vienna. However, like other Jews, they suffered greatly from the anti-Semitism that prevailed in Europe at this time. As a result, both Kohn brothers abandoned their Jewish heritage and converted to Roman Catholicism.
In addition, in 1897, Otto decided to shed the Jewish-sounding name of Kohn. He chose a new name by dropping a pencil on a map. The pencil landed on Ireland's County Kerry. In 1901, Fritz followed his brother’s example and officially changed his name to Frederick Kerry.
Fred, who worked as an accountant at his uncle's shoe factory, married Ida Loewe, a Jewish musician from Budapest. Ida was a descendant of Sinai Loew, a brother of Rabbi Judah Loew, the famous Kabbalist, philosopher and Talmudist known as the "Maharal of Prague" who some say invented the character of the Golem. Two of Ida's siblings, Otto Loewe and Jenni Loewe, were killed in Nazi concentration camps.
Fred, Ida and their first son Erich were all baptized as Catholics. And in 1905, the young family immigrated to America. After entering through Ellis Island, the family first lived in Chicago and then settled in Boston. Fred and Ida had two more children in America, Mildred (1910) and Richard (1915).
Fred and Ida and their three children lived in Brookline, where Fred became a prominent man in the shoe business and regularly attended Sunday Catholic church services. Fred did not tell and no one would have guessed that the family had Jewish roots.
In 1921, Fred Kerry, at age 48, entered a Boston hotel and shot himself in the head. Some say the suicide was due to financial stress or depression. Perhaps the transition from Czech Jew to American Catholic was too great and unsupported a spiritual, psychological and social change.
Richard Kerry (Father)
Richard was six years old when his father committed suicide. It has been said that he dealt with the tragedy by ignoring it. Richard attended Phillips Academy, Yale University and Harvard Law School. After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps, Kerry worked in the U.S. Department of State and later the Foreign Service.
He married Rosemary Forbes, the beneficiary of the Forbes family trusts. The Forbes family amassed a huge fortune in China trade.
Richard and Rosemary had four children: Margery (1941), John (1943), Diana (1947) and Cameron (1950). John, a Massachusetts Senator, is the 2004 Democratic Nominee for President. Cameron, who married a Jewish woman and converted to Judaism in 1983, is a prominent Boston lawyer.
John Forbes Kerry
In 1997 Secretary of State Madeleine Albright learned three of her four grandparents were Jewish. Then Wesley Clark announced that his father was Jewish. And now a researcher has discovered that John Kerry is really John Kohn.
So what if John Kerry has Jewish roots? If the discovery had been made in Europe in the 1940’s, Kerry would have been sent to a Nazi concentration camp. If the discovery had been made in America in the 1950’s, Kerry’s political career would have been negatively affected. Today, however, the discovery of Kerry’s Jewish roots seems inconsequential and unlikely to affect the 2004 presidential race.
The story of Kerry’s Jewish past is of interest because it reflects the story of many European Jews who shed their Jewish heritage en route to America at the turn of the century. The story makes one wonder how many Americans today have Jewish roots of which they are unaware.
Concerning the comments on Larouche above. I recommend his pamphlets and websites to all. He is a FDR Democrat and a deeply moral man. That the mass media (the propaganda ministry) has marginalized him is one of the tragedies of the era.
Besides his writings and prescriptions for reviving the U.S. economy can stand by themselves. What he may be like himself doesn't really matter (not that there are any truths in the attacks, I just don't know enough about him to really say).
