So whadda ya think - I found a house for $279.99 - assembly required

Scroll back up and take a look...

I think that's a fair price. But you would be looking at thousands of dollars in transaction fees, that's the only drawback. Drop that sucker down in San Diego though and it'd be worth at least $300,000!

Wow-

And absolutely better construction than the crap from Centex, Toll, Ryan, Hovnanian, Ryland and any other corporate homebuilder.

How about this real life story:
--24 yo and wife buy house in Vegas for 135k three years ago.
-put 50k in nice upgrades (surround sound, plasma, etc)
Listed same house in April for 335k. Lowered two months later to 315k. Lowered a month later to 290k (just to "dump it"). One offer came in at 262k. Owner sighed and said "can't do it". Oh, owner also has new F350 and wife has new Lexus. Anyone hanging upside down here?

Wow! It's funny but true; there are, perhaps millions of household that are living in that lifestyle. I'd like to add that I personally know of a few who are living like that and in addition, have a second full time job. He spends more time at his job than living in his McMansion home.

I know someone that more than doubled the size of their original mortgage from six years ago to buy several cars, an RV and two boats and lots of other toys. This scenario is so typical of so many, it's scary.

I even heard rumors that the RTC may be gearing up for a comeback. Given the way they screwed up the real estate market the last time, this time they will completely destroy it.

No garage on that house!

I wouldn't want it. Not enough room for granite counter tops.

note: As the unwilling poster child for the housing bubble, I'm starting to feel bad for the granite counter top industry.

Funny thing is that the house represents everything that is wrong in the USA these days.

Used to be those things were built with your father using extra lumber and nails. Now, we just have them molded in China.
