Right on schedule, here come the homebuilder layoffs

And, as HP'ers know, there's many (unfortunately) more to come throughout the REIC - realtors, mortgage brokers, builders, title agents, Home Depot sales people and so many more tied to homebuilding, which is crashing (housing rout).

Then you have the multiplier effect - dry cleaners, restaurant workers, Lexus salesmen, etc.

Then you have these laid off people 1) trying to sell their homes, adding fuel to the housing fire, 2) not buying new homes and 3) not shopping at Nordstroms.

And that makes the cycle speed up even faster. And no, there's no way out of this, it's just a ride we have to take on the credit bubble highway. So I hope you've packed for the journey.

Homebuilders have not had to work hard to sell houses in Frederick County — until now.
A previously booming industry is laying off workers, offering cheaper upgrades and advertising heavily.

Dan Ryan Homes, which has been in business in Frederick County for 16 years, recently laid off about 20 percent of its 200 employees and, for the first time ever, is depending on advertising to attract homebuyers.

Other major homebuilders are also laying off workers, said Brian Patchen, director of the Frederick County Builders Association.

‘‘Builders had been building at full capacity and the layoffs are obviously a reflection that they are not at full capacity anymore,” he said. ‘‘They can’t afford to carry extra employees.”

‘‘We knew it was going to happen,” Kostreski said. ‘‘It has been too pretty for too long.”
The dip is part of a natural ebb and flow of the housing industry, she said.

The real crisis in housing market start when immigration inflow reverses.

Until brown and other people coming into USA there is always demand for extra housing. Very often two or three families occupy one house, so they can afford it.

I don't think illegal immigrants will leave soon. It should be very serious social tensions , very high unemployment (15-20%) and riots to make them go.

Until government supports ankor babies (and their families), illegal immigrants will stay. To make them go it should be competition for low-payment jobs and no support for babies.

Construction jobs is just a part of job-pool for them. When all white families start clean houses themselves, wifes stay at home, cook and take care of kids, then inflow of brown people stop.

I am not a racist, but strongly believe that peple should live in their own countries. F&Ck that globalization!!!

I myself enjoy the lack of lines at Lowe's. I can walk in get my stuff and don't have to stand behind the fat person who didn't check his/her item to see if there was a barcode on it, thus causing me to have to wait for someone to get the price. That fat tard has no money now. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

i've noticed a favorite mexican place that used to have people waiting outside on friday nights now has seating available pretty much right away.

i am fascinated by this domino effect, everything from dry cleaners, as you mentioned, to dentists as another one brought up. theme parks, movies (i thought the box office of last summer was due to housing but i guess not), travel, mlb and nfl attendance, etc

i do want some season tix on the cheap so i am keeping my eye on craigslist and ebay!

The trickle down in new (or any) construction is incredible if you really break it down piece by piece..... Contractors, designers, architects,
graders,framers,concrete,plumbers,
electricians, stucco or bricksetters, roofers, drywallers, landscapers, window installers, tile setters, painters,decorators...not to mention any and all suppliers of any products in use for said work.
Laborers,truck drivers(material handlers, delivery,cement trucks...
lumberyards and on...and on!
Home Depot??
There will eventually be thousands out of work in the construction trades, not to mention the recent announcements about layoffs at Ford and Boeing!!

I think the current situation in Mexico will keep many of them here. Big unrest down there after the elections.

It would be a bad time to live in a city that had a large mexican population and has a economy that is dependant on RE.

PHX?
