the emperor is not wearing clothes. I'm not suggesting the democrats would be any better, but please, just give us someone 1) smart and 2) competent

is that too much to ask?

I can't figure you out Keith - you hate Bush but you want war with Iran. Square that circle.

I want wars, when they have to be fought, to be fought for a clear reason, with an exit strategy, competently and with the resoures to win, and only against countries who threaten us or our allies, either directy or through state-sponsored terrorism.

I believe Bush failed in Iraq because 1) the reason was flawed, 2) he fought the war incompetently and 3) he fought the wrong country to avenge his daddy

I believe he should fight Iran because

1) They've called for the destruction of Israel
2) They're building nuclear capability against UN mandates
3) they certifiably arm and fund terrorist organizations

This one is a no brainer. The tough part is the military strategy to win.

Remember, I am not a Rep or a Dem - I detest both political parties

wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong. other than that, good points ajn

iran and iraq are completely different situations. I will give you that bush screwing up iraq lessens his ability to deal with iran

Appearing on NBC's "Today" show, he was asked about positive statements he had made at the time about how Washington would come through for the storm victims, rather than leveling with the country about how bad the situation actually was.

"Those were White House talking points," Brown replied. "And to this day, I think that was my biggest mistake."

Brown said that at many intervals during the week the storm hit, he found himself asking, "Where in the hell is the help?"

"I have to confess ... you want to protect the president when you're a political appointee," he said, "so you're torn between telling the absolute truth and relying on those talking points. To this day, that is my biggest regret. "

What, a candidate that's out of touch intellectually with the American people? Why not keep on keeping on and elect a person who's never known what it's like to be middle-income or in the bottom 80% of earners? Someone whose brain doesn't intimidate Vern and Lurlene in Piqua, Kansas?

If the war in Iraq has been fought incompetently, then why would a war with Iran be any different? Let's lose one war at a time.

Keith,

The teams are NOT Islam v. West. It's the Crazy Greedhead Warmongers v. The Common Man who just wants to Raise his Family and Live. In all places.

Check out the excellent documentary (Google Video) that ran on the BBC, "The Power of Nightmares." Think THAT'll play for the Sheeple on American TeeVee anytime soon?

How did Iran become Iran, again? The arms? The radical theocracy? How did all that get started, again? What was the military's 1970's threat assessment of the Soviet Union before 'Team B' aka Cheney/Rummy/Wolfy took over?

Who's got half the world's military budget? Who's busy exporting arms and death to tomorrow's evil 'Rogue Nations'? Can you say "Islam Karimov"?

The end of Empire: stretched thin at the edges, rotting in the middle. Um, that sounds creepily familiar.

I know. Litany of complaints. BOH-ring. Maybe the solution isn't the big D Democrats -- *retch -- but it IS Progressive and Populist and Peace-loving and Egalitarian and Democratic. Like forward progress as a species has always been.

I'll let Mencken take us to the bridge...

"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the public alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." (H.L. Mencken, 1923)

um, until March 4, 2009? unless he dies or resigns, which seems unlikely.

that sure was a stupid question. damn, they're getting stupider and stupider.

Keith,
To answer your question: yes, it is too much to ask.

You can't blame G. W. Bush for being stupid. He just is.

But what must be going through the minds of Americans that voted for the nimrod, I cannot fathom. I have found that many remain staunch supporters, or have stated "Gee, I didn't realize...".

I consider it high-time we Americans consider a multi-party political system with a more centrist agenda. Today, I cannot align myself happily with either party. I'm sure I'm not alone.

Why are you complaining? I like having candidates with their hands in the pockets of the oil industry. That way our country can maintain its foreign-oil-crackhead-status for generations to come...
And besides, I want my kids to be able to pray in public schools and go into a 7 Eleven without an interpreter...

when bush addresses the country that night, the night he sent bombers in to take out their nuclear facilities and leadership, what will happen to his popularity the next day

up or down?

I say up, way way way up. right before the election

Whether it's Bush spending without taxing, or a democrat disintegrating newly taxed money, it still results in inflation.

As Buffet said: You haven't cut taxes until you've reduced spending.

The resulting tax comes in the form of inflation, by infusing the system with depreciatiing dollars.

We need more economic debate and less political debate to keep this site relevant.

you are such a dipshit Dem. The whole thing was Nagin's fault. I want a chocolate blog.

I do think Keith is a Heb. I guess Mel Gibson is not his wallpaper on his PC.

Actually, he would leave office at noon on January 20, 2009.

George Bush could stay in office indefinitely if he were to declare Marshall law, silence the press and arrest everyone in opposition to him. But such drastic steps may not be necessary. Maybe the supreme court will reappoint him for another 4 years when his term ends in 2009.

It is obvious that the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections were rigged. Maybe the election of 2008 will be rigged as well so that the American people will be tricked into thinking that they elected yet another Bush as president.

For example, there could be a Bush dynasty comprised of George's brothers Neil, Jeb and Marvin. Then the dynasty could continue with their male heirs.

Chance this is a White Man:____%

Anyone?

'perma renter'

Hmm. Many Bubbleheads sold at or near the peak and are debt free and holding huge reserves in cash, gold, tips, euro, etc. etc.

Perma renter? No -- however, getting me to buy before Xmas 2008 will be almost impossible. Back taxes, baby! I can FEEL it!

But whatever -- you enjoy that HELOC, okay snookums? Remember -- Bush Rules! And NASCAR! Mission Accomplished! Tax and Spend! Cut and Run! "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me -- won't get fooled again."

DVo, do you hate white people or something? So now you have to be a ceratin color to have an opinion? That's such a shallow generalization. It was such a stupid comment that I had to point out that it debases all you arguments and opinions and serves you very poorly.

Maybe you can clue us in why New Orleans had a murder rate 10x the national average? Is everything in a simple causal-effect relationship w/ skin pigmentation?

"The thing that you have to realise is that Iran was becoming a liberal democratic society before Bush came to power."

You mean Khatami's reforms.

Hate to say it but he was a one man show. The Mullahs were always in his face and the fractions of govt, which he didn't control, were politically oppressing others with labor camps, police brutality, etc. Khatami's limited success was only due to his brilliance as an political operator in a predominately hostile govt.

Hate to say it but one extraordinary individual doesn't make for a progressive govt. Since '79, Iran hasn't been the society that was in its earlier history. It's just a tier above the Taliban govt of Afghanistan and a few tiers below Saudi Arabia.
