HP's question: What members of this corrupt and incompetent administration face charges, impeachment or pardons?

Watch this great (and in-depth) PBS video report on Cheney and the Iraq debacle, then ask yourselves can it get any worse than this, can the American people be any more clueless and what will the end result be?

History will not be kind to this administration - foreign policy or the domestic policy debacle. The burst of the Housing Bubble will only expedite the pain and derision.

You are not qualified to comment unless you've spent the hour-plus and watched the full PBS video series in my book (fox news crowd)

Mike Ruppert's Crossing the Rubicon covers all of this and more -

Cheney and Rumsfeld have know each other since the Nixon days.

The reason for 9-11, as executed by our government, was to divide and conquer ME nations for the purposes of seizing and privatizing Iraqi, Saudi, and Iranian oil because the Caspian Sea proved to be much less than was thought in 1999/98 and because the Twin Towers were White Elephants.

If you think you can handle the truth - read Crossing the Rubicon

[When Michael C. Ruppert wrote “Crossing the Rubicon: The Decline of the American Empire at the End of the Age of Oil,” he was one among a handful of authors talking about America in terms of “Empire.” But he was in the forefront of that group by documenting and analyzing the inevitable downfall of the Empire; being as bold as to make such a prediction within the book’s title.

The below report, written by W Joseph Stroupe, author of the new book “Russian Rubicon - Impending Checkmate of the West,” emphasizes a point I made yesterday in FTW’s analysis of the oil bourse recently opened in Shanghai. Global capitalism is dying as nations with centralized state control rise in power – especially resource rich nations, most notably Russia.

Here are some critical sections of the below report:

“The ominous rise around the globe of the resources-based corporate state is accelerating. The implications for the West are enormous, yet such implications are only beginning to be understood. As noted (in this report), such states are concluding rapidly increased numbers of strategic agreements among themselves for the joint exploration and production of oil and gas, and with the rapidly rising powerhouse economies of the East, such as China and India, for the private long-term supply of oil and gas.”

“With regard to energy and energy security, a new global order is emerging. The US-backed liberal, open global oil market order is beset by an accelerating proliferation of private, state-to-state long-term agreements and contracts concluded within the circle Russia and its partners are defining.” – MK]

Yep, there is some cluelessness out there, all right...

I'm no fan of the spineless DLC-ish bunch that runs the DemParty these days. But each and every one of them is THOMAS EFFING JEFFERSON compared to the Evil Corporate Greedhead/Warmonger GHOULS that make up the 'conservative' ruling party in Washington. Bigger liars? More corrupt? What? WHO DO YOU THINK HAS BEEN RUNNING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SINCE 1994? HILLARY CLINTON?

To trot out the tired meme 'they're all the same' is some kind of testimony to the power of Faux News, huh? They'll be running with THAT idea for YEARS TO COME.

Here's an idea: DON'T LEAVE GOVERNENCE IN THE HANDS OF PEOPLE WHO HATE GOVERNMENT.

Just a thought.

One more thing: The sad and ironic part is that *if* we can get a clean election, the inevitable Dem majority/Administration will engender soooo much hatred for proposing the tough choices that are required for even a CHANCE of cleaning up the embarrassing mess that is present-day Amerika...

Iraq was a debacle for the American taxpayers who are getting hosed; the same cannot be said for Cheney and Co., who have gotten richer and more powerful at the expense of the people. I second what Richard has said vis-a-vis 911 and America's war to control the world's last known oil reserves and the ME region. Perhaps America's long term strategic interests are served by the "war on terror." Perhaps, like some wild beast threatened with starvation and deprivation for it's insatiable appetite for worldly goods, we are compelled to take what we need, or want; but, we have sold our national soul for material comforts and power, all brokered by Bush et al. (aka Neocon-Zionist elite). The American people are laboring under an outmoded and obsolete vision that was once a proud and free republic - we seem collectively unwilling to look upon the Dorian Gray portrait we have painted. America is an empire. And history affords empire only a finite lifetime.

Richard,
Be careful with Stroupe's conclusions. The $ amounts of those deals are relatively small, even though they are growing quickly. Oil is poised for a big fall, how diversified are those economies? I wish it were so that south/south growth was the next big thing, however it's much more likely that contraction of developed economies is what we will see.

Richard said...

Boycot - so feel that oil will fall below $40.

Not me. Nations with oil will cut exports before they sell out their only global bargaining chip.

IMM - the era of cheap oil ended about 9 months ago when OPEC posted declines in production. The 12 month average will be a more clear sign of this inescapable decline.

Bush and Saddam Should Both Stand Trial, Says Nuremberg Prosecutor

By Aaron Glantz,

08/25/06 "OneWorld " --- A chief prosecutor of Nazi war crimes at Nuremberg has said George W. Bush should be tried for war crimes along with Saddam Hussein. Benjamin Ferenccz, who secured convictions for 22 Nazi officers for their work in orchestrating the death squads that killed more than 1 million people, told OneWorld both Bush and Saddam should be tried for starting "aggressive" wars--Saddam for his 1990 attack on Kuwait and Bush for his 2003 invasion of Iraq.

"Nuremberg declared that aggressive war is the supreme international crime," the 87-year-old Ferenccz told OneWorld from his home in New York. He said the United Nations charter, which was written after the carnage of World War II, contains a provision that no nation can use armed force without the permission of the UN Security Council.

Ferenccz said that after Nuremberg the international community realized that every war results in violations by both sides, meaning the primary objective should be preventing any war from occurring in the first place.

Richard,
I don't know about $40 oil but $50 I'd go with. Saudis are still the swing, so they have some control but two things will also come into play:
(1) China is developing heavy oils in Canada and Venezuela ( these are brand new sources and infrastructures).
(2)Global demand may fall dramatically as U.S. imports decline effecting global export economies.

Richard said...

Yes Boycot

China (unlike the US) is preparing as best they can. Even as US imports decline while the demand may drop the cost will go threw the roof.

I am not so sure about tar sand - Total backed off plans a few months ago to develop tar sands because of a three to 5 fold increase in material costs. Oddly when oil was $50 "they" said they would need oil to be at $75 to make tar sand economically viable...now at $75 they need oil to be $100...amazing the effect of REAL inflation.

I hear nothing on MSM about conserving, 55mph, alternate days filling up, CAFE standards enforced, etc.

Like the housing crash - we are being thrown head long into a brick wall.

Richard,

You're right about Irag & Afgahn. Now the problem is that according to Ricks, we are spending $1.5 billion per week. Again, billion with a "b." We are wasting our resources on something which can be spent in dealing with Iran. Now Iran knows this and they are just laughing to their seat, because we now have the difficulty in confronting 2 or 3 wars all at the same time. Also North Korea is waiting on the sideline. In a hindsight, we could have just contained Saddam, strike Iran hard and North Korea next and we will have a better world.

can the American people be any more clueless

I say no, but I'll probably be proven wrong, and I'll have a fun time looking at the evidence. 40% of the voters stayed away from exercising their right to vote, maybe because there was a rerun of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" or "Diagnosis: Murder" or they thought Libertarian meant someone who hangs out near reference materials and tells you to be quiet.

They scarf down carcinogens, toxic additives and questionable preservatives, eschew exercise and then wonder how they got fat.

They vote for a government that spends, spends, spends, because fiscal conservatism just isn't a Republican value anymore, so their children and grandchildren can have crushing debt and taxes later on to pay for their excesses.

They do whatever they can to make an education budget the bare minimum, then complain that foreigners are taking their techie and scientific jobs.

They embrace fascism because it comes with a flag (not upside down) and a cross (again, not upside down, but sometimes burning).

They have shifted from the quaint notions of frugality and economy to "let's spend/ruin everything before the next generation gets to it", from paying off their mortgages to cashing out and extending the mortgages to beyond retirement age. They don't even blink at interest-only loans or ARMs or condos converted from 1950s or older apartment complexes.

I haven't been here long enough to quite understand how this came about, but I'm convinced that this government and all its baggage are what at least 67% of America wants -- the 27% who actively voted for it, and the 40% who stayed away from the polls.

2006 and 2008 are indeed shaping up to be bloodbaths for the GOP but not because of the impending RE crash.

The public won't/can't pin blame for that on Bush or any Republican running for reelection.

At best, some will blame Greenspan or Bernanke, but neither is culpable under close and reasoned examination.

The public will blame the GOP for the Iraq War, massive tax cuts for the rich, ignoring global warming, gas prices (just wait until those winter heating bills start arriving) and the impending recession.

All this is IMO, YMMV, etc.

If one accepts the argument that Bush and Cabal act soley for the interest of Big Corp - which I do...

and

If one accepts that Big Corp can only profit through the availability of cheap oil - which I do...

Then hurricanes, pipe corrosion, and war are all connected to how desperate the Cabal becomes.

The only engine EVER found at the pentagon was that of a F-16 (that also doubles as a missle engine).

This is how desperate the Cabal has become.

So Keith - it is bad form for you not to understand this and to encourage intellectual dialouge.

Richard said...

And onbe last dot connected for you Keith related to Ben Bernanke -and oil.

The following has been taken from; Remarks by Chairman Ben S. Bernanke Before the Economic Club of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois June 15, 2006

“The story for natural gas shares some similarities with the story for oil, but there are important differences as well. In the 1990s, the U.S. spot price of natural gas at the Henry Hub averaged about $2 per million Btu. However, in recent years, the United States has seen a marked increase in the price of natural gas. The average spot price climbed to nearly $9 per million Btu in 2005, with the price spiking to $15 per million Btu following hurricanes Katrina and Rita. So far this year, natural gas prices have fallen back to around $7 per million Btu as an unusually warm winter curtailed consumption and boosted natural gas in storage to record levels. Futures markets currently anticipate that the price of natural gas will be about $9 per million Btu next year.

Why have natural gas prices risen so sharply over the past few years, and why are they expected to remain elevated? As with oil, high prices of natural gas reflect strong demand and diminished supplies. Unlike the globally integrated market for oil, however, natural gas markets are regional, primarily because of the difficulty in transporting gas by means other than pipelines. Although the world's capacity to trade liquefied natural gas, which is transported by ships, is growing, it is still a small fraction of world supply and is not yet sufficient to fully integrate natural gas markets across continents. Demand for natural gas in North America has remained strong in recent years, particularly as environmental concerns have led clean-burning natural gas to become the fuel of choice for new electricity generation. Moreover, increases in oil prices have boosted the demand for energy substitutes such as natural gas. However, domestic production of natural gas has not kept up. Last year, U.S. production was 7 percent below its 2001 level, with less than half of that decline reflecting the impact of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Increased trade can often mitigate price increases, but net imports of natural gas from Canada, which currently account for around 16 percent of U.S. consumption, have failed to increase in response to higher prices. Between 1988 and 2001, net imports from Canada tripled, but they have since flattened out. Both U.S. and Canadian gas fields have matured and are yielding smaller increases in output, despite the incentive of high prices and a substantial increase in the number of drilling rigs in operation.

Trade in liquefied natural gas, or LNG, is also likely to increase over time, but perhaps at a slower pace than once envisioned. LNG imports into the United States nearly tripled from 2002 to 2004, but they actually fell a bit last year as production disruptions in a number of countries limited supply and as consumers in other countries competed for available cargoes.

Thus, natural gas prices are likely to remain elevated for at least the coming few years. It is possible, however, that within a decade new supplies from previously untapped areas of North America could boost available output here, while imports of LNG will increase to more substantial levels as countries seek to bring their isolated natural gas reserves to market. Given time, these developments could serve to lower natural gas prices in the United States significantly. Nonetheless, because of the higher costs of producing these supplies relative to the traditional sources of natural gas, as well as the elevated cost of other energy sources such as oil, natural gas prices seem unlikely to return to the level of the 1990s.

Thus, the supply-demand fundamentals seem consistent with the view now taken by market participants that the days of persistently cheap oil and natural gas are likely behind us. The good news is that, in the longer run, we have options. I have already noted the scope for improvements in energy efficiency and increased conservation. Considerable potential exists as well for substituting other energy sources for oil and natural gas, including coal, nuclear energy, and renewable sources such as bio-fuels and wind power. Given enough time, market mechanisms are likely to increase energy supplies, including alternative energy sources, while simultaneously encouraging conservation and substitution away from oil and natural gas to other types of energy”.

So Keith you post Ben's quotes realted to interest rates...this is one of Ben's related to oil.

Savvy??

boycot said...

Richard,
There is some very wishful thinking going on in some quarters about energy and the environment.
The reality is that natural gas power plants are now switching to coal. I guess the EPA is a thing of the past. New plants are almost all coal.
The estimated cost of production for Saudi heavy oil is under $15/bar. These fields are just now being explored. Oil will out compete alternatives on production cost for quite some time to come.

Richard said...

Yeppers boycot - the firm I work for is heading up development of three coal plants.

ITO oil as the preferred alternative sourve of fuel...once again I agree (as I agree with coal over solar as the preferred fuel for electricity generation)...HOWEVER it is all about cost - and when oil is $300 per barrel - it will cost Joe H2 $25.00/gallon.

Stop trying to silence debate by insisting that anyone who hasn't seen this specific PBS show is unqualifed to comment.

uknow my post was about the pbs special report. you commenting on it without watching it (because you only watch the safe and cozy fox news) just shows your level of ignorance

cheers

Guys, why's absolute dictatorship (or absolute oligarchy) confused for fascism?

I mean Cheney/Bush team is an oligarchy, little more. They simply want to control the nation's resources. There really isn't an ideology or premise here other than that, a vie for absolute power contrary to the division of power as stated in the Constitution.

Can someone tell me why this is fascism? Because terrorism is little more than a vehicle here, for police centralization, whereas fascists usually have twisted ideals that they try to enforce on their populations.

Keith, your obsession with FOX just shows your level of stupidity. Don't like it – don't watch it. There are plenty of channels for liberal idiots – ABC, CNN, CBS, NBC, etc.
Cheers.
