Are you ready?

What me worry? Benificent Bernanke and his magic printing press are all warmed up and ready for the big show. All debts, public and private, will be paid off with inflated dollars, but gasoline will cost $8/gal., and that Lexus will run $200K.

gold's at $650 - buy the dips

I got my shotgun, knives, shells, supplies, and many forms of physical bullion.

Todo: get bulletproof vest.
I wouldn't last that long if things got worse than my imagination.

I've been ready, since I've been renting through this bubble. I was advised to BUY, BUY, BUY in 2005 but I couldn't afford the house I wanted. I also couldn't bring myself to purchase a condo for $130,000 that I could have bought 4 years back for $28,000. Worried that we'd be "priced out of the market forever" my wife and I had a long chat about it.

We figured this couldn't continue, and decided to rent. We were told of this "soft landing" crap I was skeptical of. So, at the time, we figured that prices would either level off and stagnate for many years, or prices might even fall. So we rented; I'm so glad we did!

Prices have come down about 10% so far, but I think they'll fall at least another 30-40% in the years to come.

We got steady gov't jobs, cash in the bank and a smaller house with easy to make payments. I always find time to pick up a couple boxs of buckshot each time I go to the sporting goods store. If you think this crash is going to be peaceful, you still believe there will be no problems. I don't think people will stand in soup line this time.

I'm fine. I've got my tin-foil hat on and a fridge full of beer.

Yes they will.

The average American is soooo detached from any kind of reality that their mental world will completely fall apart. Most people are several generations away from any kind of practical life skills ie gardening, auto repair etc and have no idea how to cope outside of the cyberworld.

In the 30s, most people had either lived on farms or had close family contact with a relative who operated a farm- meaning that they had a realistic understanding of where food and energy come from. And people still saved 10 to 20% of their income. These skills and other mechanical skills were still part of American culture.

Not today. Every basic commodity of American life comes out a sanitized distribution system. Most people have no conception of where that meat in the plastic package comes from. Or what is involved in importing energy from 12,000 miles away. Or how to fix a car.

It's going to be chaos.

Bring it on! I would like to see some people out there be forced to take a step back...

I can't wait until anarchy breaks out, then I will go around shooting my neighbors and ravaging any hotties who are out foraging for food.

I would have dismissed any of this as pure crazyness a year ago. But, after seeing what the people did in New Orleans, I believe all of this could happen. If we do sink into a depression, I think things could get violent in some areas.

Can you imagine what Hoovervilles would have been like with crack?

hate to sound like a rascist of any sorts....but America will be like South Africa after Aparteid. Ever seen any photos of 'farm killings' in Africa ?

Buy a gun....

Should be entertaining. Fortunately I thought ahead and built near the top of a hill. Everyone around me has 2.5 acres at a minimum so when the hordes of starving LOSERS come crawling towards our area, we will easily pick them off. Top it off, I am surrounding my 2.5 acres with spanish needles to cut them apart as they try and enter. It's more dangerous than a barb wire fence, it's like razor wire. Can't wait to wound one of them as he tries to slide thru it and falls face first right into it, slicing his face to ribbons.

oh yeah, better start looking at solar power for your house. It is possible and I am going to have it.

Anonymous said...

What I meant "they won't stand in soup lines" is it's not going to be orderly or peaceful. You see those people everyday in traffic or standing in line cutting in front, you think a total crash in money will improve their attitude?
Property that can grow food, water sorce and security is great, but there will be other trying to get what they don't have.

Anonymous said...

I don't think that I will ever be totally prepared. I try my best but as long as I live in the modern economy I'm very dependent on it. I just try and stay mobile and adaptable. When the nukes go airborne I'm probably toast. When the flu pandemic hits I can lock down for a few months. When the economy goes into a total meltdown I’m outta here like Helen and Scott Nearing . If I were smart I’d get out now, but life is so pampered in the urban world.

When those times come, I'm going to shoot my family so they don't have to endure the hardships.

God, that is so true. The depression was before my time, but my whole family came from farmers.
My father, aunts, and uncles all grew up and worked on farms. It was a monthly treat when I was a kid to go "up the farm" that was still owned by my great uncle. The farm is still in the family today, owned jointly by two retired cousins who grow and sell enough to maintain their agricultural zoning, AND CHEAP TAXES! High-end developments butt all four sides of the property. Asshole realtors/sh*tboxbuilders have been trying to get their greedy hands on this property for years. Fortunately my cousins don't need/want the money. One hundred plus peaceful acres in the middle of miles of tract homes and congestion. It must drive the realtors nuts!
The prevailing entitlement mentality of the masses guarantees that, NO, they will not stand in line at the soup kitchens. Self-sufficiency skills are gone. If you can't grow it or make it, you can still (possibly) take it!

stuck in so pa said... Very poignant post. The key issue here IS "self sufficiency". I have modified my thoughts on the subject to the realization that we're all going to be much better off in groups of like minded individuals all of whom will have at least one key skill and most of whom will be able bodied workers. I know it's a tall order, but that's my take on it at this point in time.

Iranian President: Solution to Middle East crisis is to destroy Israel

By The Associated Press

PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Thursday the solution to the Middle East crisis was to destroy Israel, Iranian state media reported.

In a speech during an emergency meeting of Muslim leaders in Malaysia, Ahmadinejad also called for an immediate cease-fire to end the fighting between Israel and the Iranian-back group Hezbollah. "Although the main solution is for the elimination of the Zionist regime, at this stage an immediate cease-fire must be implemented," Ahmadinejad said, according to state-run television in a report posted on its Web site.

I am buying a condo as a vulture

(desperate sellers dumping a pent house, with a homestead at a Hugh discount)

1.whilst the dollar is still worth something,
2.there is still a low doc
loan
3.I can still get a loan
4.interets rates are not to the moon (30 year fixed 33 % LTV, rent ratio 150, surrounding condos double and triple what I paid),
Plan
1.Urban, no or low gas (car, 40 mpg, new, paid for).
2. Tiny, city view, very low electric.
3. No Debt
4. Self employed, income whilst I sleep, or rather, residual income.
5. Gated and locked community in case of revolt.
6. Launch a "Green" eletric power source for my next work project. (:

I am going to watch and wait.

Yea, I am ready. he he he

Don't Freak Guys, I need a place to live without insane theiving landlords. My mortgage is lower than rent. Oh yea, and my house burned down 6 weeks ago.

It isn't about skin pigment. There are bad people of every color who are just evil people. They hurt others as well as each other. Get a grip.

Anonymous said...

Yes, it is with the Malcolm X Muslims, and there are many. Do some research, then come back with your enlightened view and apologize to opened eyes.

Anonymous said...

Agree with Python, its not alway skin color. All classes and races have evil mean members.

The illegals are going to revolt like in the planet of the apes movies. We will take over the whiteman and turn them into our slaves. Since I am a rich Mexican guy I can be their leader. I will have a former mortgage broekr white dude cutting my grass with his kids sweeping behind him and I will force his wife to give me a blow job withe the curtains open for them to see. Then I will have my Mexican buddies gangbang her.

What are you, the reincarnation of Pancho Villa?

I am actually a descendent of his. CHAD VILLA. Born and raised in Newport Beach, CA. I drive a Mercedes SL500 with tinted windows and the Virgin Mary engraved on the hood.

I'm a single family home renter. Anybody got a list of must-have supplies and to-do's re: investments, insurance, etc.?
I'm starting to get worried about my neighbors' red eyes and late night bitch sessions with their windows open.

Anonymous said...

Anon: Its somewhat difficult to say what "must-have supplies" are. If you ask me, some money at home (in case banks have problems), possibly invest in some gold, get rid of all outstanding debt, get rid of any stocks that will obviously take a dive in a housing crash, etc.

However, if you ask "the regulars" at this blog, then the answer is probably: several bars of gold bullion, sell your home and move your family to a remote mountaintop location in Montana, several firearms, an anti-tank gun, landmines to form a perimeter around your home, raise and train several dozen packs of dogs to identify the minorities that will surely flock to the hills seeking food, several flocks of livestock to live off of while the global economy melts down, possibly a helicopter for rapid escape in case the blacks breach your perimeter, several thousand tons of concrete to create a blast-proof shield around your home, oh and train your family in Israeli military martial arts in case it comes down to hand-to-hand combat. Stuff like that.

So it depends on who you are: are you a sane person worried about the financial ramifications of a global housing crash? Or are you a deranged militia member praying to Jesus for the strength that you will obviously need to carry you through the racial wars that will surely erupt when the housing market crashes and will leave the US looking like a post-apocalyptic apartheid South Africa?

Yikes, do they have a couple of expensive european cars in the driveway, and possibly a mortage they cant afford?

Here in my neck of the woods in reno, most of my neighbors are retired, and bought their homes along time ago, which is a relief.

Make sure you have renters insurance and that the owner of your house has enough insurance just incase the neighbors house "catches fire for no reason".

Buy gold and energy stocks.

Make sure your car is NOT the nicest one in the neighborhood.

Tom, don't be fooled by Helen and Scott Nearing. I'm not saying they have a lot of great ideas and that they tried to be true to their self-sufficient lifestyles but two things, First the 30s were different and people closer to the land than now so they could more easily endure the hardships plus they could find liveable places that were still very cheap. Second, they learned how to use people. Yes, they did. They got others to buy in and help them build their stone homes, pay for them to travel and speak during the winters (No, they didn't stay at their Stone House in Maine during all those long, cold winters) they traveled to South America, Paris, and other places where Socialists and Communists would listen to their philosophy. Scott was an odd fellow and his book, "The making of a Radical" sure shows how bitter he was and how much against the USA he was but then the type of Capitalism he lived under gave one reason to be a socialist.

The same thing may happen in our life times if Capitalism becomes too oppressive to the average citizen and then there will be the Revolution he sought for but was subverted by WWII and the creation of a viable middle class. Bye, Bye, Middle Class and you have a Revolution. Check out Bolivia, Venezuala, Cuba, Russia, for starters.
