HousingPanic Stupid Question of the Day

Why did toast cost me $7 in Sweden, and how does the downfall of the dollar effect the future price (and value) of stocks and houses?

Everything costs more in Sweden ;-)

$70 bottle of vodka anyone?

On the upside, Swedes get maternity and paternity leave, national healthcare, and unemployment benefit at a large percentage of previous earnings...

Swings and roundabouts..

Keith and others, places in high fluting European cities (see London, Paris, Stockholm, etc) are experiencing stagflation.

If you go to most countries in SE Asia, South America, etc, you'll find whole meals at good restaurant for under $20 USD.

Even Ontario and Quebec dining prices are at par or less than US cities like Boston or Philly.

The $7 toast doesn't make the point.

Does anyone know what percent of the current account deficit is from interest on the national debt?

Keith - paid with dollars or pounds???

I have to assume dollars, because the pound is so frickin high! I can't afford to visit London anymore - just fly through and head for Czech Republic on EasyJet, or someplace where the dollar still buys lunch.

Of course all the swiss with money leave the country for superior and quicker medicine...
the swiss system is the BEST socialist medicine system so far and that is saying a lot. it's still not the end all be all. paintblot why don't you move to a socialist country? I mean you seem to be a socialist and yet is that just armchair pussy talk?

Wow, is there any way to have a sensible/lighthearted/informed discussion on this forum?

The anonymous posts are on par with the kind of stuff I see on "Gaming Age" - normally written by 12 year old spotty white boys with no friends and even fewer life experiences.

Will 'anonymous' grow a pair and post with a name? Yeah, like that will happen...

I'm getting sick of trawling through knuckle-dragging vitriol to find the posts that have any content.

Q

"Why did toast cost me $7 in Sweden"

A

Because the local Swedish restaurant took advantage of the gullible smarter-than-thou American, who was too stupid to exchange his dollars before dining

"Funny how the people who live in those "awful" socialist northern European countries where they pay a lot of taxes and "get maternity and paternity leave, national healthcare, and unemployment benefit at a large percentage of previous earnings" are much higher on the global HAPPINESS scale than the USA!"

Wrong. The suicide rate in Scandinavia is far higher than in the U.S. I know. I'm Swedish. Happiness does not come from having stuff, but from doing good, and knowing ones loved ones are healthy and happy. All the stuff in Earth means nothing.

"Wrong. The suicide rate in Scandinavia is far higher than in the U.S. I know. I'm Swedish."

Could part of the reason for this have anything to due with the extended hours of darkness during the winter seasons?

I know that in Fairbanks and other interior Alaskan regions, the rates of alcoholism are a lot higher than in the lower 48 states.

looks like some dumb f@cks who just bought a pos track home at the top are trying to take it out on Keith

Do I have to point out which party turned us from the biggest creditor to biggest debtor nation? Do I have to point out who cut taxes to produce such debt?

But tell us again Keith, that the political parties are the same.

:because the dollar is toast

The dollar will eventually... be toast.

What's cooking right now is real estate. And that'll be charred in no time (today to 2009) because the Fed and its counterparts at the ECB/BoC/BoJ has to make the choice, either rescue the US dollar, on the forex, or save the US RE equity bubble and for the sake of the world's banks, exchanges, and economies, the dollar's the one which will be one rescued to die another day. That period of demise, when the USD loses 2/3 against both Asian and European currency indices, will be long after the fall of real estate so until then... cash ('cause you still need to buy things here), diversified currency (bond/CD) baskets, and precious metals will be king. Realize, the rest of the world doesn't want to go down with Uncle Sam. All of the world's major banks, govts, exchanges hold USDs and it takes time to diversify w/o causing a major rout and everyone knows it.

Keith, I used to live in the Netherlands. When the Dutch left the Guilder to the Euro, everyone got pissed off. Why? Because a cup of coffee and a piece of apple pie went from NLG 6.00 to Euro 6.00. One-for-one. Value for money in Europe sucks. And if you want service (including medical service) just forget about it. I prefer the pay as you go American McHealthCare.
