My vote for dumbest politician in DC: Bill Frist

I know there would be many candidates, but Dr. Frist is sure going to the head of the class.

What an idiot. We Americans, and the Republican Party, deserve better. Much better.

Where are the leaders when we need them the most?

The rise and fall of the Republican $100 rebate offers a window on how Washington sometimes works in a slapdash way, featuring in this case Congressional aides who misread the political climate and lawmakers desperate to hang onto their jobs. It is a story, as well, of how concepts and plans can be reduced to sound bites that make them seem absurd.

And it is yet another example of how Senator Frist, who is contemplating a bid for the White House in 2008, has stumbled at the pinnacle of Senate power.

Mr. Frist failed to air the plan with all of his Republican colleagues, a serious oversight in the eyes of lawmakers who were caught off guard when they heard about it. One Republican, Senator John E. Sununu of New Hampshire, said that after he caught wind of it he quietly tried to steer leadership aides away. "I made it clear in no uncertain terms to some of the staff that this was bad politics and bad policy," Mr. Sununu said.

Dr. Frist is a honorable man. He stopped at a car crash on the Alligator alley a few years ago and saved the life of a vehicle occupant. He didn't have to do that and many others would have driven on. This was before he was the leader too.

The Republicans are toast but not because of Dr. Frist.

I am a long-time Republican and a past donor to the W campaign. I have to admit I'm more than a little spooked when I hear about bonehead ideas like this gas stipend. I'm upset about sky-high Federal spending and the deficit.

Thing is, knowing W's background and his outlook, I can't say for sure how he will react when the full bubble crack-up and crisis occurs. Bail-outs for homedebtors? for sunken pensions? uninsured Florida hurricane survivors?

I can't say for sure that he will sit back and allow the markets to clear, and the debt-mad to get their comeuppance.

If the frugal and the non-speculating have to pay the tab for this mess, I may just check out of the political process altogether.

Bill Frist is the greatest mind of the 19th century. I'll take the $100 and for those of you who don't want your $100, feel free to give it to me or your favorite charity.

I cry for the Republican party I used to be a member of. . .what happend to fiscal responsibility??? $100 for everyone - even those who don't drive! . . .Ted Kennedy couldn't have kept a straight face with that one. . .ok so Frist is a nice guy. . .just don't let him open his mouth.

Frist is a classic tard. Pure trash. The fact that, that is the best he can come up with shows what a total loser he is.

I agree that Bush is dumb, but how come the Democrats keep losing? It just shows how clueless and out of touch they have become. All they can do is push the race and class warfare bullshit. Only a few hippie dinosaurs and radicals are still buying that manure.

If it's the American people who are stupid, then were they also stupid for electing Bill Clinton? You see people like Ted Kennedy and John Kerry criticizing the rich. What the hell are they?

It seems like the crap rises to the top in both parties.

Check out Ron Paul or Tom Tancredo for two honorable men.

I voted for W in 2004 but had to hold my nose.

Add some billionaires in Warren Buffett and George Soros.

Apparently it is incomprehensible to the new hard right that wealthy people might actually care about people other than themselves and policies which help them get really preposterously rich on the backs of the many.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a limousine liberal.

If you're a working class person you have little chance political power and if you get any you get accused of being a "race mongerer" or "class war socialist".

The truth: global hypercapitalists has been waging class warfare on the many for years. Fighting back is imperative.

Frist is pedantic. Or is it smarmy? Something about him simply comes across as disingenous.

I think honorable polition is an oxymoron.

A $100 rebate so that we can go buy a $100 worth of gas. It sounds like the oil companies kind of policy, don't you think?

The dems are playing it safe which is at this point smarter than what the republicans are doing. The minute they put out a policy idea FOX and Tony will get the plan out to lie and destroy it.

I mean they sucessfully turned a vietnam medal recipient into a liar. That's good.

Think about it and watch the news shows. The consitent criticism of the democrats today is that they don't have a plan. End of story. They then move on to the idiots in charge.

They will pick apart anything put out.

The plan will come in time and it will sound soooo good by comparison to the disaster that is the Bush administration.

I used to be a republican as well. But these weirdos are not the republicans I used to look up to.

Why not get something on the ballot that makes the impeachment process easier? Then we can fire ALL these pigs from both parties.

Actually, it is business that has corrupted the health care system, matter of fact, they are the ones driving up prices for programs like Medicare because the Gov. 'looks the other way' while business sticks its hand into the jar. Where is the zapper when you need it lol? Dumb regulations are annoying, but also stupid government hogs that can't police themselves. Idiots.

If the Government simply had proper leaders that actually managed its programs, pushed the country into not powering everything with Oil for example, we would be much farther ahead than we would be now.

Just think of all that debt wasted on Iraq, when we could have sunk it into building Ethanol plants, solar energy, Nuclear energy ete? At least that debt may have turned into some lasting benefit, but the government essentially wasted it on a stupid backward country with a petty despot. Incredible stupidty by this country. I can't believe how stupid we really are. We waste so much.

our health insurance should be like our car insurance. there when you need it, high deductible.

and we should get rid of the chiropractors and the malpractice lawyers. then we'd be good on both

Where are the leaders? Easy... In the democratic party. The current party in power has ample oportunity to prove their ideas and theories work... Or not.

Socialist healthcare is the solution? LMAO

I work out, eat healthy and don't engage in risky sex. Now I'm supposed to pay for the idiots who screw everything in sight and get AIDS? I'm supposed to pay for the chainsmokers and tubs of lard that sit around and stuff their faces with burgers?

I have a solution for you Hitlery healthcare lovers. All of you can pool together and start a non-profit insurance union and help each other pay for your deviant and unsafe behavior. Since you have George Soros and Warren Buffett on your side, you should have no problems funding you union.

The rest of us who decide not to join will have to live or die at our own risk. You're happy, we're happy. Good solution?

Americans want more socialism and believe in its promises. They yearn to give the Federal government more control when they hear the promises that politicians make. To many Americans socialist control means order and efficiency and capitalism results in greedy businesses people.

Check please.

Oh to be young and fearless. To think excercising and eating right will keep you healthy all the rest of your days.

It's a good thing. Aging really sucks and you have little control over what ailment will get you in the end.

Glaucoma? Thyroids? Second hand smoke lung cancer?

A society is judged by how they treat the least of their own. But it is easy to be tough when your life seems perrect.

I suggest you visit some of the hospice homes. Listen to some of the stories of a life led well, hard work and good living and still ending up penniless at old age.

It sickens me how some people have no thought for anyone but themselves.

Skytrekker, I don't like socialized medicine because I saw it first hand when I lived in Germany for two years. It is not a free lunch, everybody winds up paying more. My German friends were paying over 60 percent of their salary in taxes back in 91! Socialism sounds too good to be true because it is. I thought that we all learned that in school? Liberty and Freedom for all!
