Obvioulsy, by reading this blog, you've gotten tipped off on what's to come. Much of what has been predicted has already happened, and much more is to happen.
So... are you ready? Have you prepared? Or are you just crossing your fingers and hoping everything will be just fine?
Hint - it'll only be just fine if you prepare.

Water:free from well. Gotta hook it to solar though.
Note: Gotta get the gun. But I beleive I have some time for that.
Great photo (again)!
Talk about a conundrum. What's a Fed chairman to do? Gotta raise rates to keep selling debt. Tank the economy by continuing to raise rates and the mid term elections swing to the other party. There isn't much that thay can do for unemployed Joe Sixpack as his house gets forclosed on, except blame the other guys. No relief on interest rates and the economy keeps tanking so again the swing in 08 after the real crash hits home.
Third party?
Past family experience with communism, fascism. Offshore accounts ready. Passport ready. Zero debt. Very marketable skills. Glocks ready.

You all really think it's going to get that bad? Pardon my naive mind. Anyone care to expand on what they feel is going to happen exactly, that such measures are being taken?

Ebay item 4638574082
Here is another. Same deal, same location, different color.
Any takers?
EBAY item 4638563250
Wow. Guns and ammo?
You all really think it's going to get that bad?
Nope and sure as hell hope not. But it's better to be prepared.
I'm buying the 4WD truck tomorrow, cash.
As old Hank William (JR) and someone else said, a country boy can survive.
Anon wonders about the guns & ammo and asks if it will come to that. I think anyone living withing 25 miles of a large city had better be prepared to defend themselves. When the wheel stops turning and the guv'ment checks don't show up, the underclass will lash out, and anyone with $10 in their pocket will be fair game. There aren't enough police in the country to stop the losers from looting and pilaging. Only an armed citizenry can keep the hoodlums at bay.
It will be interesting to see how the typical Harvard liberal feels about "social justice" after his house in ransacked, and his wife and dog are raped.
No....not the DOG!!!
-30 year fixed mortgage

It will be interesting to see how the typical Harvard liberal feels about "social justice" after his house in ransacked, and his wife and dog are raped
Come near my dog and I'll crush your skull with my bare hands. "WAIT"
I mean come near my wife of course :)
Look what happened during Katrina. People tried to walk from the Superdome out of the city. Sorry. They were turned back at gunpoint by LEOs. Back to the dome to wait and wait and wait.
Who knows what will go down in a country of 300 million if we get 25% unemployment? Best be prepared to provide for and protect you and yours.
people had the same gloom and doom opinions leading to Y2K... had a co-worker telling me to stock up on cigarettes (don't smoke) because they would become the new currency. Things might get ugly in the upcoming years, but not as ugly as some people are saying.
send money guns and lawyers, the sh*t has hit the fan
Rachet up the paranoia..
How many of you with guns have them registered? Wait till the man comes to the house to confiscate them...and all the others as well. Only way to have guns is to have them all unregistered. "no officer I don't have any guns, but my neighbor does."
keep on gloomin'
btw I believe we are all in for a lot of pain....
Anyone serious about a survival scenario has some weapons cached underground or at a bugout shelter. Good luck to anyone going door to door confiscating weapons. That'll go over real smooth in the heartland I'm sure. LOL
what if the reserve is on the border, the army is in Iran and chaos breaks out? how do you feel about UN troops being called in to qwell the chaos?
and why would anyone trust this government?
their success balancing the books? their success managing our pensions and health care? their success in iraq? their performance in new orleans?
government is not your daddy. they will not be there for you when trouble breaks out.
There are no UN troops...
Enough of the hyper-panic. Most likely what will happen is a signifigent recession, a slow recovery and then 20012 comes and we finally start to improve. Yeah, the next 5 years are gonna suck, but deal and makeway for the next boom which should happen between 2015-19.
Triple citizenship,
(USA,EU,Central America)
Two small homes, (EU,Cent.Amer.}-no mortgage.
One small bldg. Manhattan, NYC-no mortgage.
No debt whatsover.
Two government pensions.
No stocks, no bonds just cash
spread over European banks denominated in euros and pounds.
Goal: reduce time spent in USA even more.
The problem is that human beings are 'dumb, dangerous, panicky animals' (I love that line.) How it all plays out is largely going to be determined by how dumb, dangerous and panicky 'everbody' gets.
Keith:
Run Keith run. With higher rates, your gold savings will go poof!.
Run keith.
fed lost control of inflation AND the dollar. higher rates won't help.
Guns? Ammo? You guys are awesome! I had a crappy day at work, I come home, and you make it all better with your paranoid ramblings. A 200 point down day is enough to send you ladies running for the bunker? Wusses.
All you really need is your gun and ammo. Well, maybe some target practice too. And a couple of grenades. And an RPG...
Anon said; "It will be interesting to see how the typical Harvard liberal feels about "social justice" after his house in ransacked, and his wife and dog are raped".
They probably wouldn't feel any different than they do now. Who supports violent crime?
I think the Ivy League Liberals that you are refering to may be liberal on their views on the so called 'victemless' crimes (personal drug use, sex between consenting adults, etc). I'm sure they would continue to support stiff prison sentences for dog-rape offences, though. :-)
You guys are pretty weird with the whole thing about guns.
I had a guy in my college fraternity who would periodically take apart an assault weapon in his apartment and clean it. You could hear him handling the metal parts as they tapped together.
He was convinced that the black race would someday rise up and try to kill off all the white people. Other than that he seemed like a pretty normal person!
Unfortunately he would probably agree with you guys about stocking up for whatever apocalypse you think is coming. It's probably going to be like 1973-74, or maybe 1981-82. It won't be 1929-32, but even if it was, we'll get through it.

"I think the Ivy League Liberals that you are refering to may be liberal on their views on the so called 'victemless' crimes (personal drug use, sex between consenting adults, etc)."
No, I think they have a philosophy based on marxism and humanism where there are no absolutes, and the definition of right and wrong varies to fit the circumstances. They do not believe in unalienable rights because the thought of a creator or realm beyond the influence of Man is repugnant to them.
These are the people who vigorously oppose the death sentence for a convicted serial killer, but tacitly approve when a federal judge orders the forced starvation of a severly handicapped woman. Many are Jewish, yet ironically their views on freedom and human dignity are not much different than Geobbels and Himmler. In a crisis they will turn to the federal government rather than rely on their neighbors. Sheep in the field as the wolves look down...
They believe in Marxism? What? They despise Marx. Marx was a Jewish nomad who was rejected intially by MANY other political schools. The extreme side of the Jewish "identity" movement latched loosely on those theories and more onto another Jew, named LaSalle. Most of the "humanitarian" side of "Progressive" is usually more into "Progressive Capitalism". Either understand this or get out.
Matter of fact, the "Free Market inllectuals" are at the core, Jewish. Mises, Rand, Rothbard, Friedman Jew, Jew, Jew and more Jew, Adam Smith's "Wealth of Nations" was influenced by Jews and released in 1776, the same years the Jews helped create the USA. Anti-Government morons who complain about a National government that protects is people from Market failure and helps lead the country to a better future in the name of "intellectual" Market correctness should be charged with treason. Your pathetic. In that regard, the Nazi's were so right.....and they hated the humanists.
You guys are pretty weird with the whole thing about guns.
I love this comment. I'm a gun rights supporter. Do you live in Florida? Do you have to evacuate in hurricanes? Remember stories of people leaving Houston having the gas siphoned out of their cars while they were stuck in traffic jams? They will be stealing from you but not from me since I have a verifiable way of protecting myself.
What about sleeping in the rest area while someone is trying to get into your vehicle? Once again I hope they find you first because if they get into my car with me in there and intend to do great harm to me, they will not exit in as good of shape as they entered.
Guns don't kill people. Minorities do (ha ha j/k). People kill people. I could easily kill someone with my Ford car if I so desired as I could with a firearm, for which I am properly licensed and trained. Remember that a firearm is always a weapon of last choice, but it's a good choice to have if worse goes to worse.
"Remember stories of people leaving Houston having the gas siphoned out of their cars while they were stuck in traffic jams?"
I was struck by the number of half-empty cars leaving. That's not fair. It should have been requested that every car carried 4 or 5 passengers.
How I prepare: live within 1/2 mile of bus line so as to be able to do without a car. Have a fireplace and lots of wood on property so as to help with cost of heating if necessary. Looking for a smaller, more compact, more energy-efficient home.
OK, "gun nuts"...if you could have ONE gun, what would it be? It would have to serve all your needs, from protection to hunting to killing a steer for butchering. It would be used by everyone in your family (everyone old enough to handle it competently)--men, women, children.
A 38 Colt revolver
If I could only have one gun it would be a M1A.
That was a bad answer. If I could only have one gun, it would be a handgun. The 38 revolver would be a great choice in that it can be operated by most people.
I like my 12 gauge pump. The only thing I need a gun for is home defense right now. The way I figure it in any situation where I have to shoot a man I will probably be shaking from nerves and it might be hard to hit with a pistol. With a shotgun its pretty much point down the hall and fire.
Also the sound of a pump shotgun is a universal language and maybe when a burgler hears the first chamber going in he will get the hell out of dodge.
When we have a home we will get a dog as well. I wouldn't rely on a dog only for protection but a dog/gun combo is hard to beat.
A shotgun and a dog is a very good combo. here is a good breed: Norwegian Elkhounds love to bark - very loudly. I think they were bred for that. Heck, the one I have doesn't even need a reason except that the pickup truck (my paid for 4WD) he rides in is moving. Great gaurd dawgs because at night they do not like things gettin into their turf. Friendly as heck. Dumb as dirt compared to the 2 wolfdogs also have. Eat like pigs. At least mine does.
I was told that they are using battery powered saws-alls to cut cat converters off cars and selling them for the metal inside. I bet a replacement is really expensive due to the same precious metal (platnum?). The scrap yards take in new wiring, new copper plumbing, and now slightly used converters. Worse than pawn shops.
Hello everyone,
I find it very interesting, the fear in this thread. (not that fear is bad necessarily, it prompts one to prepare.)
I didn't know so many people felt an apocalypse was so near and imminent. I believe the truth lies somewhere in the middle. The thread title says it all, that preparation is imperative. Now, the thing is, wouldn't it be nice to prepare (everyone) in a way that doesn't bring fear? (ie guns, thinking to kill others to survive). Perhaps the best solution would be to have a non-governmental body with a plan, so the public doesn't have to fear others stealing from them. Some have mentioned Katrina and how the government let them down. Hopefully we could learn from that horrible mistake. I read that in Cuba, when such a hurricane is expected, the entire country has a plan. There was just such an occurance in Cuba, and the area to be hit was given full warning, and safe (bus) routes to a destination to accommodate them, and their livestock. There were no casualties. Whatever your beliefs in politics, I think that's something we could all learn from.
K.
LOL! -- people despair at the "fear" they read in these posts. No sir, it's not fear, it's simply a case of paying attention to what is happeneing and making prudent choices in preparation for the possible outcomes.
Guns are like sandbags. Pretty much single-purpose devices, but they sure come in handy when needed.
Gee, I didn't know that unalienable rights were "religous far right zealotry". That's interesting, both Martin Luther King and Mohandas Gandhi understood that true freedon and human dignity can only be achieved if we acknowledge the origin of human rights lies outside of the realm of Man. Since there is a LOT of daylight between the teachings of Southern Baptists and Hinduism, I have to wonder how some people can make these strange claims that unalienable rights are a Christian fabrication.
Alan Dershowitz and Alan Keyes had a debate on this issue, and IMO it was one of the greatest verbal face-offs of the 20th century. Dershowitz (everyone's favorite Ivy League atheist/humanist) took the position that human rights should be derived from a "cost/benefit analysis" where presumably some smart people get to decide our fate based on a mathematical formula. Keys countered with the argument used by Jefferson and Franklin and embodied in the Declaration of Independence, and then proceded to totally destroy Deshowitz in the debate. It is great fun to watch the lib professor go down in flames when confronted by a true intellectual:

I don't feel an apocalypse is near. I am, however, planning on living by myself in a remote area, thus my interest in firearms. I'm a woman, and I feel like I need something more than nice thoughts to protect me from the freaks of the world. Not that men can't be victims, but a woman alone seems to make a good target.
Big dawgs is good, too. :)

OK What do you think
If we rent for 2 more years will we ever be able to get in if this happens here?
Americans who are lying awake at night worrying that the prices of their homes will fall off a wall like Humpty Dumpty can take some comfort in the experience of Londoners. After house prices in the British capital racked up double-digit gains seven years in a row through 2003, most forecasters predicted a nasty snapback. So far it hasn't happened. In fact, there are signs that prices are beginning to resume their upward climb

i forgot to mention- A 38 colt revolver with a shrouded hood is best, the shrouded hood will prevent the action from getting snagged on something if you have to quick fire from within your purse. you are right about the dog - best home self defense ever when combined with a gun because you won't be caught napping. you may want to keep some pepper spray tucked up somewhere in the room you spend the most time in. each of us is responsible our own personal safety!

C in ABQ,
You have forgotten one more element - coyotes. More than one dawg, and I mean real dawgs, not little fluffballs that couldn't even beat up a fat cat. Get a male / female pair and they will keep each other company. Give them a nice cool place with protection (think cave) from adverse weather. If you get a pickup truck like all the locals the dawgs will want to ride along everywhere. And the "locals" will know that you have protection.
