We can keep fighting each other. Keep watching fox news, or cnn, or reading the New York Times, or DailyKos, or the Washington Times. Keep listening to Sean Hannity, or Bill Maher. Keep voting for Republicans because they're the party of God. Keep voting for Democrats because, well, I'm not sure why we'd do that. Keep supporting the real estate industrial complex. Keep on keeping on.
Or we can all figure it out. Our leadership is incompetent and corrupt. Our financial well-being was built upon a massive Ponzi scheme (social security, medicare/medicaid, the housing bubble). We've been invaded by a foreign country, and we're allowing them all to stay and take our jobs. And our system is an eight-track tape in a digital age.
Rise up. Fight this government. Throw the bums out. Change the system. Demand action. Burn stuff if we need to. Organize mass protests. March on DC.
Or sit at home, watch American Idol, and hope everything will be OK.
Your choice America. And I'm pretty sure most of you are so brainwashed by your demogogary and religions, and hate-filled at this point, that you'll make the wrong one. So game over. You're now China's bitch.
And the long emergency has started.

Here ya go
The game's over. There's too many brainwashed people on the left and right. The powers that be have succeeded in polarizing this country to the point that we care more about fighting each other than keeping an eye on them and keeping them in line.
30% left
30% right
30% pop culture morons
10% give a damn
Keith, I can't help but think that while you're calling for all good citizens to come to the aid of their country, you're writing from abroad. I think that you should stick to musing about the housing crisis, because a true patriot stands with his brothers and sisters in the field and doesn't hide behind a tree.
"Long Emergency." If you believe that you'll believe anything. Pass the kool-aid.
What do you believe Bob Cote?
For one I believe my name is Robert but I don't need to subscribe to a different religion to know that Kunstler the Hustler's "Long Emergency" is a piece of crap. He's an entertaining writer and I enjoy his eyesore of the month but he's been absolutely wrong about everything he's ever predicited. Everything. Don't you get the joke? It takes genius to be EITHER right or wrong all the time. It's an L. Ron Hubbard trick.
So, Robert, the looming energy crisis is a Jedi mind trick bo the Boyz?
Vote independent Ron Paul for President.
you're all a bunch of nutters. Keith is the nutter in chief.
Our 230 year experiment as a democratic republic is nearing its end because we will soon need a "strong" leader to correct our wayward citizens and unite us in a grater cause. Don't be too surprised -- it's happened hundreds of times since the dawn of civilization. The average age of a democracy before its collapse is around 250 years. We will morph into an empire because 75% of us (the dumb masses) will play into the hand of any leader who gives them bread and circuses.
Enjoy these last years of freedom and relative prosperity.
To the Anon that called everybody a nutter:
YOU WANKER!
I am a technician in the Metro Phoenix area and have been told by my employer to just take the 10th of April off.We will not gain any benefit from coming in since hundreds of thousands will be in the street demonstrating. Lucky for us we are getting paid. I hope this goes smooth. Or it may turn out to be the largest riot this country has ever seen?? I saw the Phoenix PD practicing big time today with tear gas , tasers and on horse back. Wow ! They are certainly prpearing.
You guys have no idea what is going to hit you.I came to this country 15 yrs ago and have made millions and am proud to be a US Citizen. I try to hire Americans but they have no sense of work ethic. They feel they are entitled to everything. No surprise the big companies are outsourcing the jobs. I offer a 100k/yr package but cannot get one person to sign up because it takes 60hours a week. That is the standard work week in India and China at 1/10th the wage. The American corporations need India and China to grow and sell their products as that is where the growth is.(600 mILLION MIDDLECLASS PEOPLE TO SELL THEIR SHIT TO. All your protectionism talk is going to have no effect in Congress. So make 60k a year, sip your Starbucks!(WHO IN HIS RIGHT MIND DRINKS A $4 STARBUCKS. AT 60K/ANNUM I SEE IT AMONGST THE FEW AMERICAN EMPLOYESS I HAVE)The party is over.Sorry to say the pain is just starting. The real money is long gone from this economy.
Why just blame the politicians? Who asked anybody to buy a home with 2% down which was the average in 2005. Common sense should prevail.I knew something was wron in 2002 witht he housing prices.
i am coooler than you haha yea i am a ten year person and i am very stupid for writing this very stupid message haha u r weird
Came here 15 yrs ago because this was the strongest nation in the world. Know a lot of world dynamics. The party is over. Enjoy the last few years because that is all we got. The minute the East Asians refuse to buy our stupid IOU's we have hell to pay and we siure can't invade the whole world.
keith, you should change this site to liberalpanic.com.
What "looming energy crisis" and what does it have to do with the real ongoing housing panic?
We are swimming in energy, we only use oil because it is cheap and plentiful. If it ever stops being cheap or plentiful we'll switch and that will be long before we get anywhere near crisis.
this is a liberal, hate-mongering, racist site disguised as a housing bubble blog
do us all a favor and stay overseas........
Time to impeach Der Chimpenfuhrer before he and his leader do some real damage......
If we invaded Iraq for oil then how come we didn't invade Mexico and Canada for oil? They're alot closer. I guess that blows the war for oil theory out the window. Try again, LibtardCo
Canada, you're next!

The country is doomed because noboby has thier head on straight. What will happen next is the blame game. Not trying to figure things out, just pointing fingers. Oh well, wish I could do some thing, but the peoples brains are too scrambled. It's scary..
Goerge W rawks! Libruls aer doodoheds! i Am proud to bee a repubican! nancy pulloci is ugly!
This is a liberal site, period.
Looks like someone needs a diaper change!
I'm a moderate republican who hates the direction this country is going.
Tax cuts upon tax cuts while the deficit is skyrocketing. WE NEED TO CUT SPENDING NOW!!!! Else, we need to raise taxes. I'm pissed the republican party has become the 'fear mongerers' and is trying to make an issue out of everything in the name of security.
It's hard to believe that a bunch of stupid ass fellow citizens are more worried about driving around the block in their stupid SUV and owning their 2-3 investment houses at the own detriment instead of having an honest discussion about child care, the deficit situation and what it entails for the future economy, and the inclusion of bible beating idiots into the gov't.
Showing concern for the problems currently in our government hardly makes one a "liberal". I do not understand why there are people still throwing that out there. I am begining to see all political affiliations angry and displeased with what's happening. Even FoxNews has the president's approval at 37%.
Yelling foul and calling people here nutters and liberals is pointless. Does this mean you think its ok for our government to behave this way???
Currently, the most politically active people in this country have proven to be the illegal immigrants, and their UNITY in their concerns have proven to be very powerful. Perhaps we should be learning from their unified protests.
A word on Canada (From someon that has spent equal amounts of time in the USA and Canada)-
It is a beautiful country and has natural resources out the wazoo. Canadians enjoy a very high standard of living.
Despite rumors to the contrary, Canadians love their medical system for the most part. The national character is egalitarian.
The primary Canadian industry is selling its natural resources to the U.S. and other countries that use more natural resources than they are endowed with.
The U.S. does not need to invade Canada since the NAFTA treaty basically mandates preferential U.S. access to Canadian natural resources. A good analogy is that the U.S. is like Tony Soprano and Canada is a wholesale store (oil, ng, timber, water) in Tony's neighborhood that must pay Tony for his protection.
Don't think about moving there to get away from what is happening in the states...Canadian stocks have been one hell of an investment the last 5 years...get your fill of Canada that way. Whatever happens, the fate of Canada is tied to the fate of the U.S. and it's in everyone's best interest to get along.
Showing concern for the problems currently in our government hardly makes one a "liberal". I do not understand why there are people still throwing that out there.
Here's an excellent explanation.
Anon, thanks for the link.
One thing that still baffles me is the popularity of the Bush/Cheney '04 stickers on the backs of SO many people's cars (but I am in Florida). I'm not that old, but I have never before seen such public and unwavering support for a president. Has that ever happened before? (I remember of course the Perot stickers, the Clinton/Gore stickers... but I don't recall people leaving those stickers on their cars 3 years after the election.)

Get rid of the illegals as they are taking jobs that citizens should be FORCED (by economic necessity) to take.
Put Medicaid on a basic services only basis. No high tech treatments for the wretched poor. They don't pay taxes, no charity for them.
$1 a gallon gas tax. That would cut back on SUV drivers. That's 200 billion per year right there.
Get rid of medicare pharmacy benefit.
outsourcethegovernment makes false claims:
1. the overthrow of the iranian government in 1953 was to prevent it from falling into the hands of the soviet union. the us government did the same with nicaragua and south korea, which have no oil
2. the coupe against chavez was due to his close ties to fidel castro. how come there was no coupe against the previous venezuelan government?
3. why hasn't canada, saudi arabia, mexico etc been invaded for their oil since they have more?
4. there are hundreds of engineers and demolitions experts who claim that it was not a staged demolition. what about the planes flying into the buildings? were those also faked? were the thousands of witnesses there who saw the planes all CIA agents?
5. out of 6 billion people, you can always find hundreds or even thousands who will have different opinions or make wild claims. even now there are people who deny the holocaust, some of them professors. in the 1970's there were thousands of sicentists who claimed we were headed into an ice age and they had their scientific data to back it up. now they are all claiming that we are melting down into a steaming bowl of soup and have the data to back it up. so which is it?
i bet you believe oliver stone's account of the jfk assassination being a collusion of the FBI/CIA/military/mafia/unions/cubans/soviets/DPD/KKK and every other group in the world. you can always take bits and pieces from here and there to link all those groups and make it look good.
Who gives a damn about the political bull crap, spelling corections, etc. The bottom line is that the system is broken and if we the people cant get together and fix it, it will fix itself. It looks to me like politics is dsigned to keep the people divided so the welfare slave state can continue. It looks to me like if you have a nation of slaves who think they are free you have power. The truth is , you have no real rights. Its time for America to actually make somthing and be independent from foriegn oil and products. Its time to back our money with a little more than a nuclear bomb and mind our own damn business. We need real people in office without such big soft wealthy asses who know what the hell is going on. I am tired of having my policy dictated by people exempt from their own rules who have more money than God and less real working experience than the King or Queen of England!Life is not working all day to save a deflating dollar. Life is simply living and enjoying the Earth.
I WANT FREEDOM!
That's why you invest in precious metals. This country is fawked beyond repair. Nobody has the guts to fix it and if they do, they are smeared by the media whores as some kind of nutcase.
Wikipedia is not a reliable encyclopedia
Why not just check the sources? They're all listed at the bottom of the article.
outsourcethegovernment
you freaking tiny-brained moron, when i ever say it was ok to overthrow any foreign government? i am stating the reason why it was done and it wasn't for oil as your tiny single braincell surmises.
yet France (which we saved twice) treats us with contempt
Why do you care so much?
And you might want to look into the Battle of Yorktown.
They've found tons of misinformation on Wikipedia. Everyone and their grandmother is allowed to edit and the facts are not checked regularly. Some of the info is correct, and some isn't. Some of the info has sources and some don't. Some of the sources used aren't reliable.
how can we rise up said...
"when the liberal idiots want the government to take all our guns? what are we going to do? throw knives at our oppressors?"
Actually, I think IED's and suicide bombs work rather nicely....
Guns? Who needs them?
Some of the info has sources and some don't. Some of the sources used aren't reliable.
So why not check the sources? Too hard?
The French were burning Uncle Sam in effigy during the labor riots. For some reason, it's America's fault that the government they elected is changing the laws to make companies more competitive. The French are idiots and I'm glad they'll be going down in flames before we do. At least I get to watch them disintegrate
I really don't understand what everyone gets so worked up about. Seems like everyone is really sensitive about what the French say or do. I personally just don't care. But you know what they say - tal para cual.
the coupe against chavez was due to his close ties to fidel castro. how come there was no coupe against the previous venezuelan government?
Maybe they preferred sedans.
What a dumbass.
What was this in response to? My question about why you care so much about what the French say? Or my suggestion to read up on the Battle of Yorktown?
It doesn't make sense to me.
My grandfather fought in WWII.
Okay... congratulations to your grandfather. What does this have to do with anything?
You must 18 years old to be so flippant about wars and genocides that killed tens of millions of innocent people, including millions of children.
I don't recall saying anything about a war. Your responses are a mystery to me.
The French and their selfish, self-importance are hugely responsible for our current situation.
Hmmm. Blame it all on the French. Interesting. But I don't that strategy will be productive.
Please study your college history text books.... not the grade school ones. The French Navy was instrumental in helping the Colonies defeat the British....yawn.
Besides, look at this great real-estate deal we got with the Louisiana Purchase. A bargain by all standards...bubbleheads should get this.
Let's give the French a break. BTW, beautifull statue!
My grandfather fought in WWII.
So did my dad.
But the US didn't enter WWII because Hitler was overrunning Europe. The US entered WWII because another country attacked the US. After the US declared war on Japan, Hitler declared war on the US.
Most US politicians, and most Americans for that matter, didn't give squat whether Hitler took over all of Europe, including the UK.
Re: "France hasn't done squat in a hundred years"
Except understanding and bailing out of the Vietnam problem before it got out of hand for them. I dunno', maybe I'm a complete idiot but I think they are a country that can learn from its past mistakes while the U.S cannot. They had no interest in the colonization of Iraq and I applaud them for that. "Been there, done that, doesn't work".
I believe that most of the anti-France feelings is left over from the the lack of support for the U.S. Iraq invasion in 2003.... Freedom Fries, boycotting French wines, etc,.... you know what I'm talking about.
Good decision on their part...
Ever since I was a boy my conservative relatives have been reciting the mantra "Government should be run like
a business; lean and efficient". By the time I was a young man I asked them "Name one company that has been
in business for more than 200 years producing the same quality product".
I could get not one example. Then to
drive the point home I would say "What percent of companies in existence just twenty years ago
are still in existence today". They
would then stand stupified with the realization that if our government was run like a business it would not
last a single generation. It is amazing the mantras that we all repeat to ourselves without analysis.
Think rather than react.
First, let's get the government to take guns away from everybody. Then we'll "rise up"
As we all know, the government is here to help you and has your best interests at heart.
Liberals prefer big bloated government that takes from the productive and gives to the lazy.
If any business was run like the government, it would be bankrupt in a matter of weeks, not months or years
Government is the only enterprise where failure is rewarded instead of punished. If too many children fail tests, then give the schools more money. If the police can't stop crime, then give them more funding. If someone has more children than they can support, then give them more money.
WoW, 81 responses.

Like the present one?
If any business was run like the government, it would be bankrupt in a matter of weeks, not months or years
Right on that one. So who's running the US government?
Blame the French all you like--they really are an appealing target--but the truth is that we would be in Iraq regardless of what Chirac or Saddam or anyone else did.
The drunken cokehead orangutan in the White House was determined to go there no matter what.
Had Ameica confined its battle to Japan, it could have won with a fraction of the casualties it experienced. It's was our entry into the European war that cost so dearly, and we DID save France. Hundreds of thousands of American soldiers died in Europe.
Apparently Anton is unaware that Hitler declared war on the U.S.
Oh, please. The French helped CREATE the Indochina (Vietnam) war with their colonialism and then chickened out, as usual, leaving others to clean up their mess.
What was there to clean up? It would have been sufficient for the colonial powers to get out and allow the Vietnamese people to govern themselves. We Americans allegedly believe in the right to self-determination, after all.
Silly Partisan Sheeoples!
Neither the Liberals nor the Conservatives have the talent, vision, courage, or leadership to extricate us from this mess.
You are free to go back to your regularily scheduled partisan bickering now.
The key to a robust government or a system is redundancy of systems. Lean
and mean systems are brittle systems.
Key: Redundancy is not equivalent to waste!
To the writer of:
"If any business was run like the government, it would be bankrupt in a matter of weeks, not months or years"
Nobody is suggesting that business
be run like government. We can afford the brittleness of lean business systems. We can not afford the brittleness of our government.
Checks, balances and redundancy makes for robust government. Anarchy follows a brittle government. The the failed state that the Bush admin sold you in Iraq for two trillion and counting.
Taking a liberal vs conservative stances on a particular issue IS NOT partisan behavior. Supporting a party regardless of whether they are taking
a conservative or liberal stance on an issue IS partisan. Words mean something. Use them wisely.
The real problem in America is not Right vs. Left, because both ideological wings, like both parties, are comprised of the very same ruling class interests.
We don't even have a real Left in this country at all, just rich people who think that being pro-choice makes them liberal. Push them on class issues, though, and you find that there's very little difference between them and their allegedly "conservatives" friends down at the country club.
We are now a nation controlled by an oligarchy of the very wealthy, and this oligarchy's interests are not those of the country. They do not care about jobs for the working and middle classes, because they are set for life. They don't care if civil society is falling apart, because they live in walled compounds with private security. They do not care if the schools suck, because their kids go to places like Andover, Yale, and Harvard, the schools from which the oligarchy's current head graduated. They do not care if housing is unaffordable, because they can always afford anything they want. And so on.
And while we sit around here and dicker over whether Nancy Pelosi or Condi Rice is hotter, or whether Teddy Kennedy has gotten fatter, they are laughing all the way to the (untraceable Caribbean) bank.
"We are now a nation controlled by an oligarchy of the very wealthy, and this oligarchy's interests are not those of the country. Ahhhhh, finally a sign of intelligent life on this board...
I'm from the government and I'm here to help you people.
"We are now a nation controlled by an oligarchy of the very wealthy, and this oligarchy's interests are not those of the country. "
What? I thought Hillary really did want the Village People to raise my children. How disappointing that people are now responsible for raising their own children without Hillary's help. We are doooomed!
>>>Why the hell are we still in Bosnia anyway? They didn't bomb the World Trade Center or Pearl Harbor.
Neither did Iraq.
>>>What? I thought Hillary really did want the Village People to raise my children. How disappointing that people are now responsible for raising their own children without Hillary's help. We are doooomed!
You don't read very well, do you?
So true about what you said..there is so much corruption going on around us and we all just sit back and take it. What can we do, how do we get others to see the light?
In 2000 I said don't Vote for Bush. I went to school with people like him. He will turn
his family feuds into the wars of nations. My friends no regard me as Nostradmus II but it was obvious.
Repblicans ... The party of ideas.... and everyone of them a disaster. Please! No more "ideas".
DummyCraps - What ideas do they have? Vietnam War? Great Welfare Society? Raise taxes? Affirmative racism? That little dotcom bubble was nice while it lasted though. I don't know who can take credit for that one. Maybe Al Gore since he invented the internet.
Hillary will save us with FREE HEALTHCARE and have the VILLAGE PEOPLE raise our children. We will be living in a Workers Paradise like the dotcom days of the 1990's. We'll become just like Cuba. Viva la Fidel!!!
Anybody who thinks that Hillary Clinton is a Leftist is too dumb to breathe on his own.
Hillary grew up in an affluent family, campaigned for Goldwater, went to two of the most exclusive colleges in America, was one of the nation's top corporate lawyers for years, and supported the war in Iraq and the so-called bankruptcy reform.
She is about as much a Leftist as Steve Forbes.
What does growing up in a wealthy family have to do with not being a leftist? Most of the members of the Weather Underground and German Red Army grew up in wealthy families. Try growing at least a single braincell before posting such stupidity.
What does growing up in a wealthy family have to do with not being a leftist? Most of the members of the Weather Underground and German Red Army grew up in wealthy families.
OK, define Leftist. What is the political left? Then explain precisely how a ruling-class, establishment figure like Hillary is a Leftist.
I think you don't even know what a Leftist is.
We shouldn't be invading Canada for their oil. What we need to do is bomb their treasury and destroy their ability at making conterfeit quarters, dimes, nickles, and pennies.
I don't care who made what coin first. We are an empire and they are a bunch of monkeys.
Time to put an end to Canada flooding our economy with coins that look like ours.
Look around Republicans. Your party
is dying and you all cheered it on
to its death. Of course the religious right played a huge role in supporting this disaster of a government and what they have done will not be forgotten. Bye bye Reed, Robertson and all the rest of the religious political psychopaths.
Look around Republicans. Your party
is dying and you all cheered it on
to its death.
They can't saee that--they're too busy chanting USA! USA! and masturbating to their tattered, sticky picture of Chimpy in his flight suit.
Aye mia. No wonder the United States is falling apart. Housing bubble, credit bubble, oil bubble, whatever. None of this would have existed if you had paid more attention to this country's problems instead of worrying about American Idol or Bling Bling or whatever wierd shows are out there. Fact it, most of the opinions expressed here are signs of a lack of understanding of human politics. There are a couple of key fundamentals of human politics that maybe I should make you aware of before you go on another liberal/conservative rant.
1. Privatizing and letting government agencies run amok is a no go. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are excellent examples along with the US Fed Reserve. Another example is the political parties. Yes, I said that right. The Democrat and Republican Parties really should not even exist in this country. You give a private corporation (Republicans currently in power now) state power, I can guarantee that they will abuse it, being as they are accountable to basically no one. Ditto on the Democrats and third parties at all levels.
2. For every law and machination that you propose or intend to abolish in this country, there's usually going to be an equal and opposite reaction from one or more factions. For those of you who push for more and more unrestricted global free trade (which technically has existed for hundreds of years), there are going to be domestic groups that will oppose you at every turn. Same goes for "morality laws". Morality laws have no place in a modern society, and those who are used to growing up without the elite telling them how to live their personal lives will rise up like never before.
3. Not all cultures are considered equal. Any nation that embraces a state religion, whether it's Christianity, consumerism, Wicca, Islam, patriotism, Christian consumerism, or whatever weird religion you follow, will end up destroying itself. Not ands, ifs, or buts about it. Religions (or at least belief systems similar to religions) such as Deism and secular humanism are inheritantly more superior versus dogmatic and revealed religions as they require the individual to think beyond what some government theocrat tells them to think. Christianity, if ever embraced on the legal level in America, will destroy this great country and is in my opinion a much greater threat than the housing bubble.
If you're going to regurgitate the same political nonsense to me, I won't hear you out. If you have some compelling comments or questions, then by all means ask.
