May 1st: Round 'em up! Huge immigration protests threaten to shut down America

I'm sorry - you want to invade our country illegally (while tens of millions wait in their home countries for their chance to LEGALLY enter the US) and then you want to disrupt our economy, shut down our cities, and cause havok in the streets?

OK, that's cool. But I sure hope someone in the Bush Administration wants to send a Reagan-fires-the-air-traffic-controllers-like-message: Round 'em up and send 'em home. And this is going to backfire so hard, and so fast, that heck, I couldn't have planned it better myself.

May 1 protest aims to "close" cities

Pro-immigration activists say a national boycott and marches planned for May 1 will flood U.S. streets with millions of Latinos to demand amnesty for illegal immigrants and shake the ground under Congress as it debates reform.

Such a massive turnout could make for the largest protests since the civil rights era of the 1960s, though not all Latinos -- nor their leaders -- were comfortable with such militancy, fearing a backlash in Middle America.

"Nothing Gringo!" is their mantra on May Day. I suppose they will walk to work barefoot and crap in 5-gallon pails that day.

Only in America...

I am an anonymous ultra liberal, critter worshiping, tree hugger. I vote Green and read the Utne Reader and Harpers, Mother Jones and The Nation. And I say to hell with the illegal alien movement. Go home, and fix your own country, I say.

If your here illegally, then you are breaking the law. Just because you have a couple million of your buddies in here with you doesn’t change a damn thing! Go home, I'm tired of providing just another free ride!

Anonymous said...

This isn't rocket science - if you're here illegally, then you are BREAKING THE LAW!!!! 'Round them up, arrest them, and send them back. I don't care how much of my tax $ it will take to send these CRIMINALS back home. Go try this boycott-march sh%t in Mexico...maybe we'll get lucky and you'll get tossed in jail where you belong.

Anyone see the report on channel 7 about pregnant women (looked like mostly Asians) coming to the US to have their babies? I missed the story but really want to know whats going on.

Mexico is a mess, which it has always been, but since NAFTA, it has been even worse. Fox and his Neo-liberal band of thieves have pretty much made the country a embarrasment to the world. They make Cuba look like a great place to live lol!!!.

So you get the border jumpers which greedy, immoral business people latch up for cheap labor. Getting rid of NAFTA and doing a better job at rounding up for deportation would be a start. Though is all starts in Mexico, clean house.

housing anyone? anyone?

Let's hope the protests are huge, and militant, and there are lots of Mexican flags, and maybe some scattered violence and vandalism. That ought to help swing the tide in favor of enforcing the laws.

Look at them America … they’re sticking their middle finger right in your face, demanding “legalization” now!

I can’t help but believe (HOPE) the silent majority is being awoken.

I'm a Reaganite. I don't like bush at all. Both of them.

If I felt the Democrats would round up the illegal aliens and build a border wall, I would vote for them in a heartbeat. I'm afraid both sides have sold out to the businesses.

Tom Tancredo is one of the few brave national politicians who is willing to stand up to the media, business lobby, Congressional leadership and White House to wake up the American public.

Our major cities have been overrun with people who have no intent to assimilate or learn English. Their loyalty is to their race and country of origin - especially the Mexicans.

I support our latino brothers and sisters - i think they're doing fantastic job - don't forget our great nation is built on their hard labor- if it wasn't for them we would be not so great - all my wealth has beem made on their backs -

i milked a fortune flipping properties in california nd florida- all built by these poor guys-

i have tried whites and blacks - but no one works hard as latinos when it comes to my handyman, my hoesekeeper and the guy who does the lawn -

so i don't mind them taking day off -they deserve it - and it is May Day - international labor day any way - so what's the big deal?

I have no problem with Hispanics/Latinos. I have a problem with illegal immigrants.

legal - illegal - who cares ?

the pilgrim fathers didn't really come with a stamped green card !

the point is that if we can be this successful and this rich with 20 million illegals - then will we be even more rich nad successfull if we let even more in ?

If it worked that way, Mexico would be the richest country on earth, since it has more Mexicans than any other place.

And anybody who doesn't think these demonstrations are going to backlash real hard need only read this article.

A few choice bits:

"There will be 2 to 3 million people hitting the streets in Los Angeles alone. We're going to close down Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Tucson, Phoenix, Fresno," said Jorge Rodriguez, a union official who helped organize earlier rallies credited with rattling Congress as it debates the issue....

"We want full amnesty, full legalization for anybody who is here (illegally)," Rodriguez said. "That is the message that is going to be played out across the country on May 1."

Anonymous said...

Noble sentiments fellows.
But, get used to Mexicans in America, there will be more coming and not only will the government not stop them, they will stop us from doing anything about it. It’s not the Mexicans challenging us - it is our own government.

Hell, these people are saving the immigration enforcement folks some time--THEY ARE ROUNDING THEMSELVES UP. I say bring the buses and send them south.

Anonymous said...

Get the buses ready at each of these cities. They are planning on all being at the same place at the same time. That's how stupid they are. No better time to round them up, load them in buses and bus them right out of the country.

Anonymous said...

1. Don't give ANY business YOUR business that supports this bullshit called Cinco De Mayo next week.

2. For W to say that "...it just won't work" in regard to rounding them up and bussing them back home to the shithole they crawled out of, I say BULLSHIT! W, you HAVEN'T EVEN TRIED YET!

3. If we need a place to start with the roundup, I say East LA, but really any city where I, as a caucasion male, would be murdered for simply being there. The fact that there are parts of this country where a person could be killed just for being there is an absolute outrage. I sure hope the experience our troops are getting in Iraq dealing w/street warfare will be put to good use here in America eventually.

4. Trillions have been spent by the US on black-budget weapons programs for decades, including space-based lasers and *truly scary* scalar weapons. When the HELL are we going to use this stuff to take care of shitholes like N. Korea and Iran?

Who is the "we" that are getting rich? Only the crooked companies hiring people at slave wages are getting rich. The tax burden is pushed onto the taxpaying Americans.

BTW - You assholes start taking care of your own lawns, cleaning your own houses and raising your own children. Your fat white asses need the exercise once in a while.

This should be a powerful incentive for these folks to stay home:

Mexico set to decriminalize pot and cocaine

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Possessing marijuana, cocaine and even heroin will no longer be a crime in Mexico if the drugs are carried in small amounts for personal use, under legislation passed by the Mexican Congress.

The measure given final passage by senators late on Thursday allows police to focus on their battle against major drug dealers, the government says, and President Vicente Fox is expected to sign it into law.

"This law provides more judicial tools for authorities to fight crime," presidential spokesman Ruben Aguilar said on Friday. The measure was approved earlier by the lower house.

Under the legislation, police will not penalize people for possessing up to 5 grams of marijuana, 5 grams of opium, 25 milligrams of heroin or 500 milligrams of cocaine.

People caught with larger quantities of drugs will be treated as narcotics dealers and face increased jail terms under the plan.

The legal changes will also decriminalize the possession of limited quantities of other drugs, including LSD, hallucinogenic mushrooms, amphetamines and peyote -- a psychotropic cactus found in Mexico's northern deserts.

Hundreds of people, including several police officers, have been killed in the past year as drug cartels battle authorities and compete with each other for control of lucrative cocaine, marijuana and heroin smuggling routes from Mexico into the United States.

The violence has raged mostly in northern Mexico but in recent months has spread south to cities like vacation resort Acapulco.

Under current law, it is up to local judges and police to decide on a case-by-case basis whether people should be prosecuted for possessing small quantities of drugs, a source at the Senate's health commission told Reuters.

"The object of this law is to not put consumers in jail, but rather those who sell and poison," said Sen. Jorge Zermeno of the ruling National Action Party.

Fifty-three senators voted for the bill with 26 votes against it.

Hector Michel Camarena, an opposition senator from the Institutional Revolutionary Party, warned that although well intentioned, the law may go too far.

"There are serious questions we have to carefully analyze so that through our spirit of fighting drug dealing, we don't end up legalizing," he said. "We have to get rid of the concept of the (drug) consumer."

think these illegal restaurant workers will start spitin and puttin S**T in the gringos food to help the takeover?

Anonymous said...

This is a tough call. I first was getting pissed at the illegals, but now I think they're the only people in the country that will take to the streets and make the power structure pee their pants a little bit. Noone else is doing it. I agree that it would be far better for the people of Mexico to pull down their own government and corrupt catholic church, and repeal NAFTA, but that isnt happening because CISCO and YAHOO have perfected surveillance in countries like China, so we're all screwed. Even if this does blow up, it may serve as a catalyst for change in this country in general which is badly needed.

That's the opportunity for Immigration Services to arrest all the illegal immigrants on the street on the day, put them in jails and send them back to Mexico!!!

What a bunch of simple minded racist people you guys are acting like. Your all speaking out of fear. Just a couple questions:

1. How many of you proffess to be Christians? Very Christianlike to send these poor people back to their shithole country because they weren't fortunate to be born on this side of a line.

2. Who would you rather have? The guy who risks it all and makes the very tough journey to a country where people treat him like shit just so he can make money and take care of his family or the spoiled brats we're currently raising here.

3. What would the "real" prices of most of our services and goods be if we deported all this labor. Yes it would drive up wages for the workers but destroy a lot of businesses in the process and make prices escelate.

And lastly...who is more likely to take you in...a mexican in the usa in need or an american in mexico in need. Having travelled extensively in every latin country I can tell you it aint the american helping a latino out. It's applicable to this arguement if you really think about it.

I could go on and on but I'm sure I'm already wasting my energy. Just wanted another view heard here. Unfortunately all the negative energy you guys put into this nonsensical (yes because we're all immigrants here) debate is only hurting yourselfs.

cheers from an Arian in So. Cal.

What a bunch of simple minded racist people you guys are acting like.

And what a self-righteous twat you are acting like.

Very Christianlike to send these poor people back to their shithole country because they weren't fortunate to be born on this side of a line.

Is it very Christian to sit silently by while blue-collar workers are being displaced and having their wages driven down?

That is what has happened in one field after another: management uses illegal labor to push down wages. It happened in meatpacking, which used to be a good job with union pay and bennies, and then in carpentry, which also used to be a great blue-collar job but is now one of those "jobs Americans won't do," since the wages dropped by half, thanks to peon labor.

And so on. The corporate elite sends as many jobs as possible overseas and then imports slave labor to do the few jobs that remains. And you apparently have no problem with this.

But then, you are so filled with sympathy for the oppressed somewhere else that you can't be bothered with the ones closer to home. Karl Marx wrote an essay called "The Duchess of Sutherland and Slavery" that describes your kind perfectly. You should read it.

What would the "real" prices of most of our services and goods be if we deported all this labor.

Well, here we get to the crux of the argument: slavery is OK if it saves you some money. How very Christian of you!

I could go on and on but I'm sure I'm already wasting my energy.

Yes, you are wasting your energy if you think that calling people racists and defending slavery is going to convince anyone. But I'm sure this silly, half-literate little screed made you feel all righteous inside, and isn't that what it's all about for fake bourgeois "progressives" like yourself?

Anonymous said...

Ummm, slavery is NOT when there is an agreement between two people to perform work for a certain price.

Also, as for the imbalances in pay scales around the world I think you can lay the blame right at the doorstep of the Federal Reserve (and our government for sponsering this privately owned ponzi scheme of money). Perhaps you should read "Creature of Jekyll Island" so you could get a little handle on economics as you are obviously lacking.

As for being self rightous...no I think its just being right.

Cheers.

"Ummm, slavery is NOT when there is an agreement between two people to perform work for a certain price."

Ummm, impoverishing people to the point that they have no goice but to work for whatever someone is willing to pay is wage-slavery.

And don't get too smug--it's coming your way, as the corporate feudalists in this country continue their so far successful campaign to make America a two-class society. Don't get too smug just yet. The third world is full of people who can do your job as well as you--or better--for a fraction of the pay. And, given your warped notion of freedom, there's no reason why you shouldn't be shitcanned to make room for one of them, right?

Creature of Jekyll Island? LOL. Do you also want me to read about UFO's and water fluoridation? After all, we've got to stop them from tainting our precious bodily fluids!

If the illeagls and their supporters spent all the energy and time in organizing their march on fixing Mexico and other central American hellholes they wouldn't need to skip over to the US. But hey, I don't blame them, if Americans are stupid enough to not have tighter borders and stricter immigration laws, why not abuse it? The church wants illegals becasue they contribute money to their dwindling parishes. The governement wants slave labor to to appease their greedy corporate coffers. Corporations love slave labor so they can drive down wages and eliminate the middle class. What does it all mean? Not sure but....

I keep thinking of the fall of the Roman Empire.

Anonymous said...

And lets not forget our aging populatioin here as well as all the unfunded pension obligations...no, we really don't want young workers coming here so they can help resolve those problems.

If its slave labor why are they coming here to become slaves. Please.

I taught English (privately) in Taiwan to school children.

Most of my students were US citizens and had parents who were not. Their parents met at college in the US, married in the US, had children in the US then moved back to Taiwan.

The children, being US citizens, could move to the US at 18 and petition for the parents to come join them.

It's a long-term strategy that works. I will never understand US citizenship law. Ridiculous.

So where can I find out about this 200K/yr offer to pick lettuce?

I'm serious. I'd do it for half that amount, easy.

Anonymous said...

It IS slave labor.

I'm a white American who worked as an illegal in the 70's in Europe.

Cleaning hotels in exchange for a bed and food.

The legals hated us because we took their jobs and forced their wages down.

We were desperate and happy for the shelter.

Who wins? The hotel owner. Period.
