Housing Market Readjusting to Normal Balance, Says NAR
A lower level of home sales expected this year will create a more level playing field for buyers and sellers on the heels of a five-year sellers' market, according to the National Association of Realtors(r) (NAR).
David Lereah, NAR's chief economist, said the number of homes on the market has been improving nicely. "The cooling from overheated sales conditions in recent months is helping to bring inventory levels up to the point where buyers have more choices than they've seen in the last five years," Lereah said.
"Annual price appreciation is still running at double-digit rates, but the cause of those sharp increases is going away. As the market readjusts, price appreciation should return to more normal rates of growth this year."

Ever since I began paying attention to the housing bubble, I have become increasingly disgusted with the real estate industry.
My wife and I have decided we are not going to use realtors, not for buying, definitely not for selling. Who needs them? We have the internet, zillow, etc now.
It's time to boycott realtors into extinction!
I don't know, the quotes you posted made me think of Lereah in a better light than I had previously.
Look at his employer - do you think he would honestly admit that housing was bubblicious? I bet if he does he's out of a job. Maybe he really doesn't believe in a housing bubble like many people who don't (although most of them would fail a test on supply vs demand an equilibrium pricing)
The real blame lies with the MSM people who continue to ask him for his obviously slanted opinion.

I totally agree on the not for buying part. I have never used one then. Even if the seller has an agent, you not having one means there are less hands in for the take and it is EASIER to negotiate. Many people think THEY have a realitor working for them. But if you ever approach THEIR realitor without a realest agent of your own, that means twice the commission for THEIR realitor.
you may e offering them a deal that is $15,000 below what is fair, but THEIR realitor knows that getting double commission goes a long way. And that REALITOR will serve his best interst and not his client in pushing this sale to go through.
As far as not listing your home through an agent. The idiots of the world think it is unsafe to buy without the traditional agents invovle. And the truth is after you remove the idiots from the mix, there simpy is nobody looking to buy.

Saw the above ad on craigslist. Now, if the house is sold at the listed price but with the 40k rebate to the buyer, the RE people can still claim a 'strong' median closing price of 261K and not (261-40K). The whole RE statistic is very misleading, very corrupt.
